And people think Northerners are thick...this is us at our expressive best. This is Northern flamenco dancing. And it's so gratifying that young people are finding this music. Nothing beats soul.

On the way northbound by train we occasionally went through Wigan. The trousers on display lead me to wonder if any young men were swept off the platform when the draft caught their britches.
I was at a disco a few years back and someone was dancing like these people the DJ stopped the music and asked them what they was dancing to as they wasn't dancing to the record he was playing

I got onto the northern scene in 1979 baggy trousers were already out of fashion, why do these guys insist on dressing up? The scene moved on. Come to Wolfies in walsall top tunes and not a pair spencers and white socks in sight 😂😂
In the US we were living the hippie movement so we didn't know about Northern Soul. My friends and I sure would have loved it. The music, dancing and fashion were great.❤️
@@marylougeorge1385 Like you, I would have loved to have done Northern Soul dancing when young but I never knew of it. I am attempting to learn it through You Tube videos. Steven Hinds is THE BEST NS dancer I have seen on YT. I'm from Australia and mainly did a slide-to-the-side dance. (Corey, one of the lead singers in the band Three Dog Night does it on YT) and free dancing. Some of my ancestors lived in the area of England that NS originated from so maybe some of my distant cousins were into it! My grandson is a dance student and he is learning it quickly from YT.
@@barnowl5774 I love the NS music. The dancing has some break dancing moves. I'm looking forward to showing my sister NS videos because we hung out together in the 70's. She's going to love it and we would have definitely been a part of the movement. As it was, before we were legal drinking age in the US (21) we went to 3 different dances a week. When we were legal and could go to bars, we were dancing most every night for 5 hours.
