@@definitelyafan2541 Popping up everywhere? He's only been in the remakes for 2 and 4 since we last saw him in RE6 which was 2012 unless you count the spinoff movies. Otherwise he was absent from the main series for about 7 years and was absent again from 2019 to 2023. This Leon hate is so silly and forced lol.

@@RapidCrafter To me, it makes no sense to jump into 5 when we just got Wesker back in the remakes. It would have been amazing if Capcom was going back to remake 1, 0, and CV. All in that order. Whether 0 would be dlc for 1 or not who knows.

I think Chris should also be a playable character - kind of like what we had with RE2 where you could choose which side of the story from either Chris' side or Leon's. I'd love for this game to be in 3rd person as well.

I was hoping we’d play as Chris investigating the BSAA as well. I wouldn’t mind playing as Leon as we haven’t seen him in awhile story wise, it’s quite possible that Chris is either an end game or DLC character similiar to how he was in 7 and 8 though.
Leon is great, but Chris and Jill would be best if this is to be the last numbered game. End where we began.

The Leon dying rumors remind me of the Chris dying rumors along with the evil Claire rumors that were initially flying around when RE8 started getting leaked. I'm ignoring all the plot speculation until we actually see footage of this game.

I'll be hyped when we get some movement similar to that RE animated film. Specifically, that scene of Redfield and Leon wrecking undead shit with Gun Fu. If they can capture that in an open-world, I'll go from six to midnight.
It might be just like how RE6 did it, each protagonist has their own campaign/chapter. Hell, even the prologue in RE6 follows Leon and Helena so we might be in for some similar campaign structure with little to a lot difference

I would love island setting again in RE. South-east Asia has islands... Imagine like island city, that got cut out from rest of the world because of some bioweapon getting leaked there. Entire abandoned city full of weird mutations.
Honestly I'm really just hoping that this game will have two things, the option to play in first OR third person, and a lot more scares than what RE8 had to offer, and I'm pretty optimistic Capcom will succeed on all fronts with this next title.

I disagree. Hype is a great thing, it just depends what you're getting hyped for. People are just hyped for the next RE game in general because the last mainline title came out 3 years ago

@@shayoko6 I feel like people just want to be disappointed, it's like people look forward to hating on things more than just playing it. Doesn't help that rage baiting content gets all the clicks. Dragon's dogma 2 for example - great game, great sequel, is unapologetically what it is, yet lots of unwarranted hate, even though the hype was high and it lived up to it in most people's opinion that actually played it. People expect every game to be a once in a decade masterpiece, when it's actually good and ok for games to just be good, which they have been from capcom and lots of other developers right now. It's especially ridiculous when people want things to have been designed specifically with their personal preferences in mind when it comes to RE particularly - when every single RE fan wants something different from one another.
They did that movie death island and that movie showed that even though Chris, Jill, and Rebecca work together, Leon and Claire are still in contact with each other and will probably do what they can to assist each other on their missions, in other games they all have contact with each other and in other media considered cannon. It’s not all the time, so maybe it’s a chance to close 1 door and open new paths. Save the originals for side games
looking forward to the new game. But I hope they bring back reVillage's new game plus unlocks as opposed to re4s. usually my first playthrough I could get a couple small weapons fully unlocked and with the infinite ammo perk for ng+ that made the next couple playthroughs really fun.
I'm glad they fixed Chris's character model in RE Village, he looked ridiculous in RE 7. lol 😂

I didn't like RE8's mercenaries at first, but after revisiting it again recently, it's honestly not as bad as I remember. RE4 Remakes mercenaries is still better though imo
@RapidCrafter mercenary from re5 was the the bomb. Many people loved the variety of melee moves after staggering enemies..no longer possible with 1st person
Wasn’t a fan of first person shooter. Re 8 is good on VR2.

I'm just confused because of the post-credit scene from RE8 where Rose is being trained or whatever to take part in missions. I expected (or actually hoped) that we'd get her as a new main character, I think that would be nice.
She was the main character in the 'Shadows of Rose' DLC. I think that's all we're getting.

If Leon is the protagonist, then I'm going to purposely wait for the game to drop in price to $30 before I purchase! Thats how I fight back against crapcom. What made classical RE so unique was how each game had a different set of characters playing out their own story and they all intertwined and connected. I despise crapcom so much for single handily destroying RE. I will only accept Leon as the protagonist if he finally loses his life in this game, leaving his weird fans devastated. One thing is certain, if Leon is the protagonist, then it's safe to assume we're getting another bullet sponge zombie, call of duty like game with no horror at all.
Also, didn't early rumors stating that they're bringing multiple characters like they did in RE6 surface? I would've prefered that.

The open world rumors definitely have me a little worried, but I also have faith that Capcom will do it right. I would be okay with it if the open world was something like Alan Wake 2's open setting or even The Evil Within 2's open world elements

Honestly RE9 or RE was always meant to be open world.
RE 1 - 3 were open world technically with all of the back tracking from area to area in game.
RE4 was the start of that to die and focus more on the change in gameplay style.
Even though RE4 was successful RE5 & RE6 didn't do so well with this method due to doubling down on the action and straying away
from the horror aspect.
RE7 & RE8 brought this type of game play back moving around between the different areas of the house, the village, the castle, the labs etc and being able to back track.
Seeing that this method worked allowing that sense of horror to come back whenever you came back to an area that somehow changed made things frightening again. As well as attention to story instead of making it an action packed opera like RE5 & RE6 was.
Definitely RE4 remake made improvements to the horror aspect and changing of some story elements.
RE3 and RE2 remake I think while they looked amazing did this poorly and didn't play out as interesting as the originals which for me was a let down and a surprise because RE1 Remake made great improvements that brought up the gameplay, horror, art style that was already amazing in the original game.
This is what I thought was going to happen for RE2 and RE3 remake, but unfortunately this did not.
HOWEVER! thanks to the modding community, RE2 & RE3 remake still became amazing games in their own right thanks to the VR mods to allow to play the games in VR which brought that claustrophobic horror back into both games and added another level of exploration.
I really hope that whatever Capcom does, they pay attention to these things and bring that to RE9 and whatever remake they decide to do next to make those games truly amazing in all its glory defining horror for a new generation like how they did back in the nintendo 64 and PS1 era.
Honestly Leon is my favorite protagonist in the RE franchises.

I hope that there are multiple playable characters in RE9, at least Chris and Leon, maybe Jill and Claire too, instead of only Leon.
Maybe it could be an RE6 (but actually good this time) style of having completely separate campaigns for Chris, Leon, etc. That would require the most development, but it would also be the easiest to write since Capcom can keep the stories largely separate aside from maybe a few crossover points.
It could also be like RE1/RE2, where you chooses a character at the start and it affects the campaign, but both characters go through roughly the same areas. Maybe Leon does something and Chris has to find him afterwards or something, like a Leon A Chris B scenario or something. It would be cool as long as it's handled well.
Third option for having multiple characters is the alternate-character section. Ada's sewer adventure in RE2, Carlos' hospital holdout in RE3, Ashley bumbling around the castle in RE4, Mia's section in RE7, Chris of Duty/Call of Boulder in RE8, etc. These sections are fine I guess, but I don't want to reduce the other character to a short section of "Oh no the MC is infected/captured/incapacitated/etc, hey player 2 it's your time to shine! Go do cool stuff!" because we already have a lot of that. If they do just switch up player characters in the campaign it should be like Halo 2, where you have Arbiter levels and Chief levels; same concept with Leon levels and Chris levels, *without* needing to conveniently make one character unavailable for a short time.

Leon is probably my most favorite character, like he's the one that got me into RE. But i do agree that he's getting completely overused. I hope he didn't take a major spot in RE9 and play a more minor or supporting role. Give the spotlight to Chris, or better yet, Jill. Although Chris taking the main stage would make the most sense.

Even tho RE4remake was the last RE title, chronologically we are in fact due another Leon lead game if we follow the track record of mainline titles, (Chris was in 5, 6, 7 and 8 so if anything Leon is actually overdue a lead role)

i have a few theories, just adding to the overall discussion not making any claims. but for one, i kind of expect them now to bring back chris and jill after Re5 remake comes out, since Res 9 will (reportedly) have Leon featured following the release of Re4 remake. on the other side of it, i think it’ll be time soon to let go of the OG characters, and with Rose featured in the 8 DLC, it might be time narratively to start transitioning to the new guard. could be why there’s multiple characters in Re9 (reportedly) because it’s transitioning out of Leon’s story and onto a new character? fruit for thought

i dont know if this is true though. because we just got the movie "dead island" that was pushing jill as the main character for 9 and have leon as a support roll. the fact we just got leon in the re 4 remake and to have him again i dont know. im all for having leon again. im just thinking why would they push jill so much in the movie. that is just my opinion. i could be overthinking it too much.

Capcom needs to include third person perspective again. I haven’t been able to play any new “Resident Evil” games since the sixth sequel because of vertigo.
I feel like wanting Chris/Jill/Leon as a main character is a bit contradictory to this "survival-horror" trope people want. I can't visualise pple specially trained to fight bioterrorism to arrive somewhere with just a pistol and a knife(Except Leon). They just aren't at that level anymore. It will still feel like an action horror at the end.

Im weirdly fine with leon since last time we saw him was re6 where hr was kinfa a mess. And if there is a second main playable charactet, kinda hope its jill. We saw what they could act like from one of the recent animated moviess so who knows.

I mean i would've love to play re5 remake since i never played it. But do they really plan on skipping re5 cause of controversy?? Either way re9 and seeing leon after years would be awesome.
I actually hope that they bring back all of the protagonists, ala Resident Evil 6. Only that we're getting the OG's, like Chris, Jill, Leon, Claire, Ada, maybe Sherry and Rebecca, as well as Barry. 👀

Man, I dont know how to feel about open world. I love solving puzzles to unlock shortcuts and stuff. Granted I did like how RE4 did side missions, and gave you a hub to explore before moving on.
Also if RE9 is 2025, then the next Remake (RE1) wont be out till maybe 2026 the earliest.
Capcom, my desperation and the patience are not a good combination😂

I'm not sure I'm ready to imagine a verse where one day Leon has grown old and possibly passed on.
Nothing against Leon but this has got to be a smoke screen to throw off Capcom's true intentions. RE 7 and 8 and possibly 9 is the continuation of the Ethan Winters/Chris Redfield story. RE9 is Redfield's misson and show. I can see Jill Valentine as a Hunnigan type support character.
Or perhaps....
Leon (and possibly Ada) will meet up with Chris in the middle of the story exactly as it happened in RE6.
I wouldn't be surprised if studios released games that were supposed to come out in 2026/27 in early 2025, as we are getting GTA6 in like mid/late 2025, other studios will need to make money too
Honestly well probably see Leon since we just saw Chris. We may even see Claire and Jill and others
Look at it like this rather we see them or not jill barry have not been around for a long time billy had one game after what chris did in 7 and 8 which was not the whole game would be amazing to see him and jill stand together again.

Maybe it’s not a direct sequel to RE8. Maybe it’s between the time Rose is growing up?
I would be ok with this as we can get more sequels or spin offs with other characters we haven’t seen like Jill or Sherry or Jakeand still have the BSAA and how they went bad leading to the story to cutting to present day with Rose.
