  • Nice drive down small section of Grimselpass on the southern side.
    Car is a mostly stock 1992 FD RX-7.
    GoPro Hero 8 2.7k 60fps and an eBay gopro copy for the pedal cam.

    I actually spend more time watching you double clutching than your driving and the scenery. 😂 It's so nicely done and I hope to temporarily break the usual clutching habit and learn a bit of double clutching. Have to replay your video multiple times to enjoy every single details of it, really nice road that is!

    Double clutching is not required in modern cars but I'm guessing you can do it anyway.

    Sorry for the noob question but why do you have to double clutch and not just rev match with one press of the clutch? Is it because the car is fairly old or there are other reasons, thanks!

      Hi, thanks for the comment!
      The double clutching technique is so that the input shaft of the gearbox is accelerated with the engine speed with the throttle blip. This means the synchro has a little less work to do when the gear is engaged.
      It isn't necessary to double clutch in a gearbox with synchos, but I learned it very young and it's habit for me now.

    Question, i see when you clutch in you let off and hold then release after a while. Is that the engagement point you're waiting on or is the clutch very stiff?

    Lovely foot work! An uncommon sight but a pleasure to witness done right these days.
    You are braver than I am, i'm keen to visit with my car but I hear that enjoying your car in Switzerland is illegal and punishable by death (just joking lol). Are the strict laws and disproportionately heavy fines as bad as they say?

      Let's say that if you're in busy areas, it's best to be very careful, but if you're in quieter areas away from the main roads, you can get a little freedom. Only within the speed limit, of course 😉

      @@samdrinkstea Lmao, no no! You drive and enjoy yourself however you please. It just baffles me why people do the opposite of racing theory "simplify, simplify, simplify" and add wasteful movement to their driving. It's not a big rig or a classic racecar with no synchros. Unless you lack the precision to release the clutch or you somehow destroyed most of your synchros, then you're wasting time. Love the car! Rotary driver for 20 years :)!

      @@AJ-kc9up Even if you’re not “racing” or driving a “big rig” you can still practice a little bit of mechanical sympathy by utilising techniques like double clutching.

      Funny you mention racing, that's where I picked up the habit, but maybe I needed you 20 odd years ago to help me down the right path.
