    It's crazy how much job responsibilities differ in every country. Where I live half of what US grips do is lighting. Flags, diffusion, stands. Our grips make sure everything is secured with sand and ropes, but their main job is camera and dolly.

    Very intimate look under the kimono of a modern well conceived grip truck! As someone who built a Freightliner FL50 camera/lighting/grip truck many years ago (still have it) I can relate to the agonizing that goes on in doing that. For me it's rare to see dedicated grip trucks anymore, so in sharing your truck this way, I got a complete update on the all the latest gripology. I've seen the weather station on set before, but didn't put two and two together to realize it lived on the grip truck. BTW, you reinforce my opinion that the best key grips are frustrated DP's. Cheers!

    Hey Chris, would you ever consider making a video detailing the quick release mechanism you built which enables you to quickly grab the ronin from a moving technocrane?

    Would love to hear a detailed discussion on how billing works with that kind of a rig. Base rate + as-used? Does Brendan need to have a conversation with the production dept every time the camera department needs a solution that's not included in the base rate?

    • @chrisherr
      @chrisherr  9 месяцев назад

      I think most of what you see is included in the truck rate. ~$2000/day for commercials. I’m sure specialized truss or other super special stuff is an add on.

    Woah, grip head combo?! That’s what we just call a combo (combination grip head and receiver), otherwise it’s just a junior stand! Also electrics don’t carry any stands and they aren’t differentiated between grip and electric.

      What market do you work in? Interesting hearing the different ways people work.
