I play similarly to this and love it.
I make a house or structure in each biome, showcasing its blocks, their features, and a miniature ecosystem.
I also create armour sets specific to each one so I can feel immersed while there.
This provides me with checkpoints when exploring and, a sense of connectedness and mastery of the locations.
It also saves the time of carting things from everywhere to my main base. I can leave some things for later in my storage for that biome, making finding things easier and more intuitive.

I love the idea of limiting ur progress to make the experience more fun and last longer. I’m doing it myself and these are the goals i came up with:
    Stone Phase- *Unlocks Rideable Mobs*
    1. Create a mob farm/grinder (decorate/incorporate into a build if possible)
    2. Get an ominous (pillager) banner
    3. Loot at least 3 structures
    4. Find a pet
    5. Loot a Shipwreck and find it’s Treasure
    6. Make a Mining Hut/Mineshaft/Quarry
    Iron Phase- *Unlocks Minecarts*
    1. Obtain 1 block of Netherrack
    2. Get 15 Bookshelves for a futureEnchanting Setup
    3. Get a sufficient amount of Eyes Of Ender
    4. Create a Redstone Contraption
    5. Tame at least 3 mobs and create a unique shelter for them
    Diamond Phase- *Unlocks Ender Pearls*
    1. Collect a Wither Skull
    2. Make a Villager Trading Hall
    3. Defeat the Ender Dragon
    4. Loot an Ocean Monument
    5. Get Enchanted Diamond Armor (Max enchants if possible)
    6. Uncover the Trail Ruins
    Netherite Phase- *Unlocks Elytra*
    1. Get an Elytra
    2. Defeat the Wither and construct a (full) Beacon
    3. Loot a Trial Chamber
    4. Defeat an Ancient City
    5. Get Totems Of Undying (preferably from a woodland mansion)
    6. Trigger and Defeat a Raid
    Extra End Game Goals-
    1. Make houses/villages in different biomes (as many as you’d like to)
    2. Collect every Armor Trim
    3. Collect every Wood Type and make a Forest
    4. Build a Village
I’d appreciate any additions u guys would come up with to add more to this list

  • @riffbw
    @riffbw 27 дней назад +6

I love your premise. I'm coming back for my annual binge of the game and I've found the only way I can keep invested is to set some rules like this.
I'm trying with a "no terraforming" style. No strip mining and no major overhauls to the layout of the land. You can tailor existing terrain to meet your needs, but you don't get to add or remove them. Right now I'm building in a crater in a mountain, but my only entrances are through existing caves that I've slightly widened to make movement easier. All building must be built on the existing terrain and I'm not allowed to overly level out the ground.
This keeps you adjusting to the world and promotes caving for resources and using what you can find without digging in straight lines for hours.
I also like playing with limited farms added and not overly relying on villagers. No bamboo farm, no sugar cane farm, no iron farm (yet), etc. I'll probably make some generic XP farm somewhere because getting levels for enchanting is necessary and I'll probably make a small iron farm to refresh my tools regularly after natural supplies I can find start to dwindle.
I'm torn on what's next. Do I ban villager trading outright, do I set it up where I can only trade what I collect by hand, or do I allow it fully, but don't automate my other farms to amass emeralds. Obviously there won't be any zombie conversion exploits to lower trade prices. With limited diamonds given the no strip mining, I think I'll need to trade for diamond equipment. I'm thinking I do a mix of no farms and no book trades. Everything I enchant has to be from the enchanting table and I can trade for equipment as much as I can afford.
Honestly, I've come to hate the race to the end game and having everything automated. Automation is great for crazy scale builders, but recently I feel like I should just play creative if I want to be that type of builder. Unlock the full block palette and be done with it. Otherwise, I want to play a more realistic game.
PS. I also like these guidelines for multiplayer. Each member can divide up the "tedious" tasks like farming for resources and them come together for the big projects. And if done right, you don't get an XP farm either. Your "warrior" types get to go fight mobs regularly to gather XP. Personally I love chopping down trees over and over and I love the grind of harvesting crops and replanting by hand. I'll gladly take on those roles.

Good Video man, I love it when people express their creativity in a game where you can literally do anything, Minecraft isn't about doing challenges, exploring, pvp or even building, it's about what you want to do, what you choose to do. It doesn't matter how you play Minecraft or why, what matters is that you play it and have fun, that's what games are for.

  • @WasatchWind
    @WasatchWind 26 дней назад +4

I think you're someone who would really enjoy VintageStory. It's all about taking your time with progression, and slowly building out a homestead. For example, while the modern Minecraft meta has you build a base but never really use it, in Vintage Story, it's your shelter during winter, where you're cooking meals, as you can't simply game the system with food item, and can just do fun things like bake pies.
It takes a lot of effort to forge metal tools, to domesticate animals, and find resources, but it leads to that progression feeling very satisfying.
Again, I highly recommend. I'd be interested to see your thoughts on how it compares to your slower Minecraft playthrough.

This is a fantastic idea and it makes me kinda wish that Minecraft had a mode that locked everything behind a progression system that would force you to play through the game completely, just so you can slow down and enjoy the journey.

    • @WasatchWind
      @WasatchWind 26 дней назад +3

You might like Vintage Story. The progression is a lot more methodical - in Minecraft you can literally get an iron pick axe in minutes, while in Vintage Story, you need to find some loose metal nuggets, heat them up in a forge, then pour them into a casting mold, and that's just for a copper pick.
Everything in the game takes more time, but it feels very satisfying. Having to forge a saw in order to make wooden planks, breed animals for several generations to domesticate them, and carefully plan, storing food for the winter - it all makes for a great experience.
If you're looking for that kind of spark we all had playing Minecraft early on, Vintage Story definitely is a great option.

I've been playing minecraft in a similar way since like a week ago.
The base game is just a tad bit overwhelming with how much there is to do so usually I'd just rush to the end of the game and then try to play, but by that point the game has become too easy and there's not much reason to continue playing so I usually quit until I get the urge to play again and repeat the entire process.
So this time around I set a world border of 1000 blocks.
I will expand it every 100 days or so, this limits how much I can progress and makes me use features I would usually overlook. It's really changed the way I look at minecraft as a whole.
It has also given me a reason to work on skills I normally wouldn't, like my buildings skills and my ability to stay calm when the 7th zombie villager in a row gets blown up by a creeper.
It's by far my favorite way to play the game.
I've also been recording the entire time so I can look back at some point and see how much progress I've made.

Loved this! Clean, fun and memorable. The challenge is on point; my last play through took years and I intentionally slowed the progression waaaaay down as well. When I finally got to the elytra, it felt well-earned and the journey in the end was incredible! Also, you kinda sound like Mark Rober 😅

This is actually so refreshing! I feel like this challenge is going to really reawaken what made minecraft so fun again :). All the meta "do the best get the best" stuff really sucks the fun and creativity of the game out. I really appreciate what you're doing and WILL be following what you do next (I also appreciate the lack of "youtuber voice" as I call it, this was my first video of yours and am SO happy i don't have to sit through someone being WAYY too excited about everything)

Oh my gods, this is how minecraft should be played!!!
I personally love playing a modpack called "sevtech ages" and "terrafirmacraft" because of how slow the progress is in those!!
    Instantly subbed!

A lot of the more experienced minecraft players do seem to forget that the early game can really be a lot more fun when you take your time. The upgrades can be satisfying for sure, but its such a short term satisfaction compared to the satisfaction of the experience of the experience of living in the world you're creating.
That said when it comes to the elytra you can still keep that mindset alive after you get one. For example, I've changed they way I use it recently. I no longer wear it all the time and went back to wearing a chestplate. I've taken to using horses and boats for short range travel and it really is much more enjoyable in the long run exploring the terrain and being immersed in the world itself rather than passing over it in the sky. The extra effort also makes arriving at the destination much more satisfying. Of course I'll still use the elytra for long distance, but I feel limiting its use makes USING the elytra much more special overall.
Great video! I can't wait to see the next episode! I think I'm most excited to see how your base will evolve as the ages progress.

looking at the intro, that's a strange way of playing minecraft. most people don't even get the elytra. but yeah, for the rest of the vid setting goals like this can be very rewarding in dopamine.

That is totally fair, I understand a majority of minecraft players never even make it to the end. I know personally I tend to rush the progression and that seems to be a pretty common playstyle for a lot of minecraft creators. But it probably would have been more accurate for me to say "the modern youtuber play through" instead of "the modern minecraft play through"

this is a great series idea, i too think people progress way too quickly these days and i wish people could see the simplicity of minecraft again. it’s great to see someone prove that you CAN make great things in the game with some things that people don’t use as much or are considered ‘the worst tools in the game’. i might try this on my 8 month long world, im subscribing for the next episodes

I love this idea and this content so much. I feel like each new world I create there's so much pressure to get to elytra and start the big crazy builds/machines... that I get burnt out and quit after just a few weeks. We completely miss half of what the game has to offer a.k.a. what made us all fall in love with this game all those years ago. This video has inspired me to try this challenge myself! There's a lot to gather from the video but do you have a "guide" or list of what exactly your restrictions are at each stage? Would love to see your official rules. :)

I've started a new modded world just to try this and it's so... cozy. Took about 40 in-game days just to build a house and farm before upgrading from wooden tools, instead of going straight to iron and getting bored. Btw, you deserve way more recogniton!

This is truly interesting and tons of fun to watch, not gonna lie. I'll admit that I usually try to speed up a little to get stone and sometimes glass, but yeah, this truly is one of the more glorious stages of the game. That said, it absolutely sucks not being able to sleep in the early game - the number of times I've been without sheep early on, sometimes it feels like my progression to iron is being forced. I would much rather progress on my own terms, rather than out of necessity.
Can't wait to see where this series goes!

An improvement I like in Vintage Story is that you can make a primitive bed out of grass to sleep on, you sleep less of the night, but you can get by with it. There's also added things like making pottery you can do to pass time while inside.

Also, did you know you can add up to 3 black or white dye to darken or lighten the base color of your armor? You can also add other colors to make in-between shades like blue-violet and yellow-geeen!

I can confirm that taking it slow and enjoying the little things about the game is a lot more enjoyable than grinding to get the best gear and build the best farms as soon as possible. It actually forces you to engage with the sandbox aspect of Minecraft in a way that you otherwise might not. I would recommend this kind of slower paced, more creatively focused gameplay to anyone who’s feeling burnt out on the game, it’s so refreshing.
