I'm still doing it but may stop soon as it burns the hell out of my tastes buds and tongue. I'm finding diluting to apr. 100 proof offers me the best flavor and tasting of the whiskey!............cheers!
So the story goes the inspiration for this whisky was found in a time capsule, renovations were being done at their distillery when they found a couple bottles of this under one of the corner stones for the wall. The men doing the work were quick to pass the bottles around but could not finish them before the master distiller was able to rescue what was left. This A'bunadh is Aberlour's attempt to recreate this whisky.
This is one of my favour under AU$150, I really love this strong and also complex taste, tried batch 66 and 67, I love the numbness feeling I get after drinking this, brilliant, I am a big fan of cast strength , reminds me of Persian drink we used to have back home which started from 55 ABV going up to 70.
I will also say I don't agree with Horst when it comes to "whisky is undrinkable" above 50% ABV, I very much enjoyed this bottle as it was opened, full of plum and raisin and enjoyable at every sip.
Fred; My comment below said I bought batch 52. After all of the good things I read about Aberlour A'bundadh I had to go out and buy it. I read pros and cons about different batches and batch 52 was a good one. What an interesting scotch. Try neat first, but then you will need to add water. I ended up adding up to 50% water and it tasted great. I would buy again but this bottle will last due to adding water. Good luck.
The same goes for many of the high-end Glendronachs. All this talk of the angles share does not really make sense for 20+ Year olds that have just around 60% ABV.
Excellent review I agree with this review,I now own 4 bottles of abunadh. In my opinion abunadh is one of my favourite whiskies when u take into the cost £40 the flavour the strength it's excellent value.
@@phatbastard0alkaline It was good. We were expecting it to be very "hot" due to the high abv, which thankfully it wasn't. Very complex and rich. The finish was looong, although a tad bitter. Very luxurious the bottle will last me a long time.
I find when you are getting first fill oloroso casks no age is really needed infact if they'd have left it for 10+ years I think it would have been too sherried. Now I have 2 leters of this stuff both from batch 49 and 50 sitting in a small 2 leter American white oak cask...only been a few months going to wait until at least Christmas to try it
I love Abunadh! Have enjoyed a few versions but have a curious question - I normally put 1 ice cube in my whiskey glass and it never floats in Abunadh? Is it the high ABV?
I just got batch 58. I'm hoping for an enjoyable one. Looking at some reviews it almost seems like they have been getting progressively.. less impressive.. ?
nice review, however the pronunciation is interesting to say the least... galic as garlic? abunadh is pronounced a boon ah, but review is spot on and full of great information!
after the fist sip of taisting, we ca see in his eyes a lots of satisfaction and pleasure. Got the Batch 65 this Chrismas and it taste wonderfull, with, as suggested, a few drop of fresh water.
Nice discussion. Both water and alcohol evaporate in a relation to each other. As alcohol has a lower boiling point (78°C) it evaporates normally faster than the water from the whisky. So the strength in the cask is reduced. But as both whisky and the cask are natural products we have a lot of variation in this process. To even this out the water is added during the bottling process.
Macallan are all very smooth to the palate but not very interesting im afraid. Old pultney 17 and 21 pack a bit more sting but incredible drams. Glengoyne 18 as well, very smooth but with depth.
Absolutely terrible review - does not understand whisky. You can get an aged whisky that has a high abv. If you want to understand this whisky I suggest you talk to the maker Aberlour.
I can understand you may be bothered by the high ABV, but I think every whiskey deserves to be tasted at least one time at its full strength.
I'm still doing it but may stop soon as it burns the hell out of my tastes buds and tongue. I'm finding diluting to apr. 100 proof offers me the best flavor and tasting of the whiskey!............cheers!
With the way that Horst swishes the whiskey, a little dilution is needed I think or else he would burn out his taste buds.
A taste or two at full strength and then sipping diluted sounds reasonable.
I drank batch 65 at full strength , a couple of drams, and I thought it was magnificent! I will try adding a little water to see how it opens up.
Purchased batch no. 62 today. Sipping it as I watch, it's absolutely wonderful. Need another bottle, Stat!
I purchased batch no.63 recently at 61.0%. Absolutely remarkable!

Can somebody post the reddit link.

Glenfarclas 105 (10 YO) is 60 ABV so I guess it's possible to have high ABV and considerable age. Depends on casks. The 20YO is also 60%.

40 euros?! jeebus. it's $85 - $120 in Boston. it's one of my favorites, and i gladly buy it for $85.
Long look at your tests whisky. Thanks to your tests, i fell in love with whisky.

Saw this video not too long ago and had to have it. Got lucky with batch #56. Excited to try it out though I heard some batches are different.
Just bought a Batch 52 bottle. Will keep it for a while before I drink it!

I really enjoy your presentation and honest reviews. Thank you for sharing! How would you compare the Aberlour A'bunadh to the Aberlour 18 year old?
I just bought a bottle today, batch 52. I will try the scotch neat 1st of course and then add a little water until I am comfortable with the taste.
Had you tried the Batch 52 yet? Eager to know any review before buying up. Thanks.
Got my hands on batch 54 tested it last week and it was really nice. Me as well watered it a bit down to make the taste come more out.
Horst ....How do you compare the Aberlour A'bunadh (if you water down to same proof) as the Macallan 12?
hi sir, i hv bought a aberlour bacth 560 n i hv just tested with few drop of water n very very very nice thks sir
Ich liebe diesen Wiskey
Thanks for the info, I’m enjoying some right now. It’s the real thing. I like it a lot.
Fantastic review educational

thanks Dr Leunig ... I just purchased a batch 54 ... hope you can do a review of the batch 54, if possible... cheers!

I own Batch #6
one of the very best whiskys that aren't peated...my favourite
My fav as well, since I got it for a Scotch tasting party in 2004.
Agreed - this is my favorite as well.
My Fav also!
Batch 63
My dad gave me a bottle of batch 40. Very nice.

What was the best batch
Batch 1-5 of a'Bunadh was 1997.
please write ur favr top 3 cast strngth whisky

Batch 57 is a disappointment, which of course the one I purchased. Normally others I've had were delicious.
Where can I buy those whisky tasting glasses?
Google
Without doubt in completely different class to any other whiskey reviewer and expert on Ebay....so many of the others are wannabees
How about Elijah Craig barrel proof 67 percent ? 😆
I do believe that the A'bunadh is a single cask whisky....It says so on the label
It is small batch, not single cask. They wouldn't have batch numbers if it was single cask.

Nice Rolex, friend.
Could you please do a review of Glenfarclas 105 and compare? Thanks!
No comparison. AA is in the A category of Scotches! Have you tried it yet?
Doesn't the abv get higher not lower with age? The longer its in a cask and evaporates water out out of the spirit thus the abv will rise, correct?
Alcohol evaporates from a cask, not the water. Most water in spirits is added during the course of bottling, anyway.

I am looking for a single malt that is very SMOOTH. Something easy to drink with little burn.
Scapa, Old Pulteney 12, Glenlivet 12
Macallan are all very smooth to the palate but not very interesting im afraid.

Redbreast. (Single grain) You wont be disappointed.
@@digitaldemocracyai-rob Connemara! You wont be disappointed....
Enjoying batch 49 tonight.
how is batch 49?
I like it quite a bit but I have never had another batch so I am certainly no expert. For me, quite nice with water.
Sytruss
Have not seen a 15 year-old, have seen a 16 year-old.
The Video about the 15 year old will come out at the 26th
Keep sniffing you may detect some fairy dust also.
Why don't you add a bit of water during your tastings, like other tasters do? Thank you.
He did. 9:07
did you watch the whole video ?
Katastrophe!
