    I worked as a CNA for Avamere Transitional Care Of Puget Sound until 37 weeks and my doctor said no more. I went on unpaid maternity leave for three months and was fired during that time even though they said I could return after approval from my doctor. I had to reapply for my job and was denied the sign on bonus that came with the position. I also never received my sick leave and holiday pay cashed out after being fired.

    Ahh the comments section on youtube... where humanity goes to die. I really regret scrolling down here. It's really quite unfortunate men can't become pregnant. I feel like we'd have a lot more legislation in favor of support for families. I think it's also important to acknowledge that pregnancy isn't always a decision, accidents do happen. If a coworker of mine were pregnant I wouldn't mind helping out, that's what being a human being is about. I'd like to hope that we all work as a team, a team that helps each other out instead of bringing each other down.

    It is such a pain to come back to work after 4 month after delivery and hear that others came back even earlier… A lot of pain! Would be great to give time at least till 6 month old. But the best is 1 year ( at least can start to reduce breastfeeding and have less stress and pain at work). Thank you for the Talk!

    those who commented things like hiring women in their reproductive age will ruin you, or that employers should not take the responsibility of women's choice to get pregnant and have kids, or even that women are entitled because they want to have paid maternity leave, just don't see the bigger picture. We are trying to create a sustainable system that enables society to produce not only competent and skilled citizens but also make sure that these citizens are emotionally and psychologically fit. If moms are not given support to be there and bond with their babies in months or weeks after their birth, which is a very critical time for babies' development, we are also somehow depriving the for the future generation the nurturing they need as well as the chance of developing into holistically better citizens.

  • @DianneWilderASMR

    so true. This is happening in Europe too. What's more, is the attitude of society towards pregnant women. They expect us to deliver our babies while at work.

      Robert Willis if a man injures himself, according to the LAW he is given office work / is allowed to take a leave which is normally covered, until he is able to come back to work. As a pregnant woman you are not always given these options, you are often harassed, no matter how well you do your job and bullied by morons who hate you for something that's actually perfectly natural and that should be encouraged. It happened to me to get bullied by one of my bosses and fired when in fact my performance did not suffer from the fact I was pregnant and this is something confirmed by my other employers. I couldn't do much in regards to this legally and quite frankly, since the pregnancy is stressful and difficult enough as it is, I didn't see fit to burden myself even more with legal pursuits. Got it now?

    • @DianneWilderASMR
      @DianneWilderASMR 8 лет назад +13

      Robert Willis and you have no right to tell anyone what they should do about their lives and their bodies. How dare you tell me not to get pregnant? How the fuck should a woman know in advance if pregnancy is going to be difficult or not, you smart ass? Each pregnancy is different! Of course if you find it too difficult to cope with the job you quit! But if you can do the job and simply get fucked up by morons who just love to make your life miserable because they hate pregnant women and women in general, that means it's an unfair situation! Why are you commenting on this without even listening to her talk? Also, a pregnant woman should stop working when she feels she can't do the job anymore. It should be a legal option and the society in which she lives should not make it impossible financially or otherwise for her to leave a job she can't do anymore. It's inhumane to work past 7 months especially when you carry a large baby, at least in my view! It's inhumane to tell someone that pregnancy is a 'fault' as idiots like you say. It's inhumane to let a pregnant woman stand on the bus while you rest your balls on the fucking chair like a pig! It's inhumane to lecture someone about their ability to do their job when I bet you don't flip flop and fuck yourself up for the job when you've got a shitty flu. So piss off!

      +CAMPO my mom worked ALL her life and she was a single mom, after my dad left us. I never lacked anything. We were in fact quite rich comparing to families where both parents worked, because my mother had a highly skilled job. My grandmother babysitted me while mom was at work and this was great fun. It's the usual system in the country where I grew up. People look after each other. It's not inhumane at all, it's normal in my culture. I preferred having an educated, active mom to being at home all the time with a bored, depressive and unaccomplished woman. I work because I like to, because it makes me feel alive and useful in society, not a rag and a burden at my husband's door. I hope you understand cultural difference.

    • @DianneWilderASMR
      @DianneWilderASMR 8 лет назад +8

      Robert Willis the fact that you didn't notice discrimination against pregnant women doesn't mean it's not happening. I was treated like utter shit by one of my employers, for example, so I know very well what I'm talking about!

      nainjatt The government is giving me zero, nil, nothing to stay at home! I paid taxes, my husband paid taxes. I expected something back. When a man gets ill and he has to stay home, he gets support. Apparently I don't have the same rights due to some legal hacks in my contact. There are millions who stay home without having EVER paid tax and they get benefits, they actually live off benefits. My initial problem was not about benefits, but about fair treatment in work, which is again, not always the case, despite legislation and so on.

    I am glad that such an informative, compassionate, delightful, and necessary talk exists. We do need to embrace pregnant women and families, including the need for family leave. Four months is not quite long enough, but it is a start. As coworkers, we can help and support pregnant ladies on the job. As bosses, we can go above and beyond to assist her in some tasks, as well as offering paid time off as long as possible. If possible, offer the same thing for the fathers, as they will be invaluable around the house, and bonding helps the entire family. If people know that pregnancy and family is supported and encouraged in this country, other positive outcomes will occur, too, including family longevity, decreased abortion rates, increased job productivity, and decrease in crime, among other major things. C'mon, America--let's love our families.

    These benefits should really come from the government, not employers. There should also be govt after school programs so that mothers (or fathers) didn’t have to leave work early to pick up their kids. And there should be a ton more programs to help families, if this society wants to be healthy.

    • @viirusiiru
      @viirusiiru 6 лет назад +1

      We have that, from the government. Mother or father (the first 70 days are reserved only for the mother). Until the baby is around 18 months old. And full salary, unless it is above the maximum limit.
      Dad gets additional 10 days paid leave 2 months prior or after the birth, as he desires. Plus, you can work being on the leave ( and get paid max 1500 €, without losing from the parental leave pay. If it gets higher, they gradually reduce the parental leave pay until min of 50%), so you could stay somewhat on track with your work, if you want.

    • @viirusiiru
      @viirusiiru 6 лет назад +1

    While i am against discrimination, I would like to have seen the issues actually addressed on a number of points. Pregnant women in the work force often Do impose greater work loads on their coworkers. You said able to perform all "major" functions, but this does not include all functions, yet the coworkers being asked to carry the additional load are not being compensated for the additional work. Employers having to find temporary replacements are bearing an additional cost in finding said temp, training them and so on. These are legitimate issues yet you ignore them. I ask this honestly, how is it equal to be asked to be expected to do less work for the same pay? I'm not saying we don't need the maternity leave, just asking for a bit of truth and less attitude i guess. Your asking for special treatment and acting as if your being slighted. The demands for future generations does require effort, and women bare the brunt of some of this but at least acknowledge that some counter points are valid.

      The major question is, why do we as a society only consider what happens in offices as work. Every company needs future employees and they come from good families who spend time and effort into raising them. Why should this be considered a spare time activity that does not deserve to be paid, even though it is the basis of keeping the economy running.
      No kids now would mean no economy in 40 years.

    Or, like I said, YOU can take responsibility for your own choices. I didn't have children until I was 30. At that time we were making enough money for me to take time off. Women make the decision to become mothers, not business owners. ALL companies suffer because of this and I care plenty about my employees when they're doing their jobs properly. We've had maybe 2 employees that were rehired after giving birth. If I had a position open and they were a good employee. Unless I'M the one getting you pregnant, I'll NOT be the one paying for anything to do with your child. This falls on the woman and man who has CHOSEN to have children. Use some common sense here. You may as well ask your neighbors to give you an extra paycheck or otherwise they're shitty neighbors. Or ask your parents to pay your bills, because otherwise they're being shitty parents.

    • @ctzn291139
      @ctzn291139 6 лет назад +13

      Jae Trifonov if companies suffer due to something that is such a natural part of life, something’s wrong with those companies. Childbirth came before corporations. They should adjust to accommodate the fact that half of their employees will give birth at one point. And the other half would participate more in child rearing if workplace demands weren’t as unreasonable on them.
