As a teenage programmer in the late 80's with no graphic nor musical talent I would often do what Shinwei did, rip the graphics or music from a ROM and then re-use them in my own creations. For me the challenge was to code something cool. Thankfully, I have opengameart and itch for assets now. I've never given up the hobby of coding on 8-bit platforms. Thanks for the nostalgic video!
It makes me so happy to see you growing and thriving. You always have something fresh to talk about I've never seen another creator cover, and that's getting increasingly hard to find.
If you made a Discord, I'd happily join it.
Thank you so much!
Hwang Shinwei also made an adult game called Wild Ball where was basically a strip Rock, Paper, Scissors game where you’re playing Rock, Paper, Scissors against the computer and on the screen there are 2 hands in the upper right corner one on top of the other the hand you control is on the bottom and also on the screen there is a girl in a Japanese schoolgirl uniform and on the girl a piece of her clothing would be flashing and if you beat the computer the flashing piece of clothing would come off if you tie then the flashing piece of clothing from the previous round would come back on and you would lose a life and if the computer beats you you just lose a life and round by round slowly and slowly the computer’s hand starts getting faster and faster to try to make it harder for you to beat it and your reward for beating the game is you get to see the girl completely nude for about 10 seconds or so (maybe not that long) before the game restarts itself and it’s back to square one
I've seen that
@@lukesmith9692 yeah most Multi-game carts that have Hwang Shinwei/RCM games on it will have that game but from what I’ve seen only the multi-carts tag have other Hwang Shinwei games will have it I’ve never seen that game on a multi-game cart that didn’t have other Hwang Shinwei games only on the ones with other Hwang Shinwei games I just happen to have a multi-game cart with Hwang Shinwei/RCM games on it and it does have that Wild Ball game on it
Where did you find that power joy infomertial footage? Been looking for it for years! Also the Nintendo 64 shaped famiclone they did
Right here! ruclips.net/video/8iboHtd2Wiw/видео.html
Level 6 in Magic Jewelry it’s the song Greensleeves and Level 7 is the song Speak Softly Love by Andy Williams (the main theme from The God Father)
Hey now, I used to love Magic Jewelry! That said, my buddy and I have a genuine soft spot for bad multi-cart games, I used to have several. I never knew much about them, especially with how people got away with making and selling them. I always assumed it was some expired copyright issue. However now I see that older games were often on there not because they were old, but smaller in file size. But then you see these TV commercials for them... how did they get away with that?? An interesting thought I had... these bootleg programmers are like the graffiti artists of video games. Their art gets seen by thousands of people but no one really know who they are since at the end of the day, it's still illegal. Another great video, probably my favourite so far. Thanks POJR!
Also in Magic Jewelry 2 only the level 5 song is The Tennessee Waltz by The Cowboy Copas and magic Jewelry 1 has 3 different versions of All Kinds Of Everything but because of space limitations in Magic Jewelry 2 and because of the new song The Tennessee Waltz (which was not featured in Magic Jewelry 1) they had to drop one version of All Kinds Of Everything but other than that all the other songs were pretty much the same (with some minor changes to the level 2 song the level 4 song the level 10 song and the level 14 song between Magic Jewelry 1&2 levels 2, 10 and 14 were variations of the same song which were slightly changed in Magic Jewelry 2 and level 4 was a different song entirely that was slightly changed in Magic Jewelry 2 but all the other songs in both games besides the fact that Magic Jewelry 1 has 3 versions of All Kinds Of Everything and Magic Jewelry 2 had The Tennessee Waltz and besides the slide changes to the songs in levels 2, 4, 10 and 14 all other songs in the 2 games are exactly the same except since The Tennessee Waltz was the song for level 5 in Magic Jewelry 2 the level 5 song in Magic Jewelry 1 moved to level 8 in Magic Jewelry 2 and the original level 8 song in Magic Jewelry 1 which was one of the All Kinds Of Everything versions dropped to level 0 bumping off the original version of All Kinds Of Everything that was the level 0 song in Magic Jewelry 1 making space in Magic Jewelry 2 for the The Tennessee Waltz for the level 5 slot but) to make space for it one of the versions of All Kinds Of Everything was dropped in Magic Jewelry 2 and level 15 much like level 3 is another version of Rise From Your Grave from Altered Beast some (but not all) of the songs in Magic Jewelry had more than one version throughout game play there in both games there were 16 different songs tracks including the various versions of some of the other songs every 16 levels the songs would repeat so between the 2 Magic Jewelrys there was about 18 different song tracks including all the different versions of previous songs and I have all of them downloaded onto my iPod also in Magic Jewelry 2 each different block type starts with a different song and in all the block types in Magic Jewelry 2 (except the original Jewelry block type) when you get game over there is a typo where instead of saying “game over” is saying “game oyre” I don’t know how that typo made it through to the final release of the game (even though it’s not an official game) and it’s strange how the original Jewelry block setting doesn’t have the typo but all the other block types do and as for the songs in Magic Jewelry 2 they are always in the same order but each block type starts at a different song but always in the same order
The Ninteninjas got him! 😵
I'm really glad you've given a little spotlight to an unsung dev that did their best with limited resources. I've enjoyed this video.
Really interesting history. I never owned a multicart, but I did have some exposure to them. Way, way back in the day, I saw an advertisement in a magazine for a NES cart with whatever, 100+ games. But the ad wasn't for the cart itself. Instead, it was advertising a VHS tape which demonstrated / gave an overview of each game included on the cartridge. You had to dial a 1-900 number that cost 20 bucks to dial, and provide shipping info. I remember permanently memorizing that number. The tape was everything it advertised, but even as a kid, I could tell that all of the games were of the extremely early type that mostly predated even the release of the NES. So in the end it was a bust. I wasn't interested in a hundred cheap, simple games.
Make Trax's original title is Crush Roller. So Brush Roller is simply a Crush Roller clone. They only changed a single letter in the title.
My mom bought me a "Power Joy" over 20 years ago. It was fascinating seeing this flourished during those years.
One big reason the multicarts used early games is because they didn't have to handle memory mappers.
Very good point.
@@pojr 24 and 40K cartridges have a single page of PRG-ROM and CHR-ROM. Anything larger, and the code would have to be modified to support the multicart's mapper.
You took the words out of my mouth.
This channel has a lot of potential - keep it up!
Another great video! Enjoying my weekly visit to all things Pojr.
Every artist is a cannibal
Hwang shinwei is one of the Best Pirate creators
Agreed
Interesting information as always.
Great shiirt!
9:23 that background is from the title screen of tengen's unlicensed Tetris
Magic Jewelry is more of a NES clone of Sega's Columns
Correct!
Only the Sega buffs know that one.
Love your videos
Thank you!
8:55 is the track stolen from the altered beast NES port? I believe that port is a bootleg too either that or a tengen game.
Great video
BB Car needs a colour hack
He didn’t show the music from BB Car which is NOT All Kinds Of Everything
so that person named shinwei something is actually a developer of jewel tetris aka magic jewelry tetris, i see, finally i found him....
Interesting vid
Columns on SNES next 💡
Where do I get that sweet pojr merch?
You'll do well now.
Whenever I sub to a channel it blows up 😁
Love the Atari stuff.
Keep it up 👍
And I LOVE Magic Jewelry especially Magic Jewelry 2 and I have the entire soundtrack to Magic Jewelry downloaded onto my iPod as well as the music from Wild Ball and the music from BB Car

Here before 2500 ❤❤
Hello. I'm new to your channel. I've watched a few of your videos and I'm really enjoying them and look forward to more.
I've noticed you like to use the words "stealing" and "theft" when talking about some one using assets from other games. I personally don't see this as stealing, since stealing would imply you took something from someone and they would no longer have it. Which is not what is happening here.
So I have a question. You showed these same graphics and played the same music in this video. Does that mean you are a thief and you stole those things?
I'm not trying to be a jerk. I just don't see this as theft and it bothers me when people put those labels on people. Maybe you feel that what you've done is different. But you have taken those assets and posted them online in an entertaining way that other enjoy. That's all that this Shinwei did. He made copies of assets that existed and created something new for people to enjoy. I'm just trying to get you to look at things differently.
Theft is taking something from someone. Making your own copy is not stealing. Although Shinwei should have given credit to the original creators. But the original creators probably would have sued him.
3D Block has 5 renditions of All Kinds of Everything.
Hm. Wikipedia showed even a picture of him. I guess, the picture in the game is a test from him. He looks identical to the Wikipedia article, just younger. So yeah. Hwang is the guy. Interesting story btw.
Pirates are pirating the pirates who pirate the pirates!
0:19 "Have you ever played this Game?" Well Yes and No....... not on NES though since I started on Sega but on the Genesis and the Game was called Columns unlike Tetris where your making a Line at the Bottom? This Game your making a Match of 3 and when you do that the 3 Disappear and the Rest will Fall from Above!
Yarr.
I'm not a pirate
Or a pilot
I'll never be a fireman or a cop
Cuz I am a frog
A frog with a dream
A dream to be Human, and have a job
It's worth noting that all the tracks in Magic Jewlery are stolen. There's greensleeves, the theme from the godfather, and a few chinese folk songs. Also, WHERE WAS THE LAWSUIT? The guy was arrested there was no lawsuit
Tetris clone? Thought it was a columns clone 😊
Hi dude the power joy voyager have 2 joystick and game boy blocks games omg
Bbcar dude who will play this game???
Id join your Discord if you make one.
"PACK MAN"
Interesting... its like the black market of gaming. I would have made a killing on ebay
I'd be a part of it, and be the opposite of Soulja Boy.
Every artist is a cannibal
Why does everyone your age say "guys" every 5 seconds.
