@Thiago during the early days of the German invasion of the Soviet Union, the Soviet Military Command was incredibly incompetent because of the Great Purge done by Stalin. So they basically thought, with their superior population numbers, think they can basically throw untrained troops to the meat grinder on the frontlines and spoiler alert, didn't work

Xavier seems like a bit of a badass. Fought in the Belgian army in both World War One and Two. Joined the French resistance... got caught by the Nazi secret police... and only didn’t die because someone in the Vichy French government decided “you know... Anyhow,your mistake was actually doing the Carlist uprising at that stage of the war. You should've either waited for the peace,for then deleting all Falangist divisions and striking,or beaten the Republic moving Nationalist armies south,while expanding Carlist influence in the North and when the Republicans were almost defeated,rise up letting the Falangists be squeezed between you and them subsequently defeating both. Divide et impera.

Fun fact about resistance groups - depending on which side of the very thin line you take about the Hague Convention of 1899, resistance fighters are considered irregular military and are therefore considered unlawful combatants and do not have to be given any special treatment like actual uniformed soldiers and POWs do. This was put in place to help Germany, of all people, when they were kicking France's ass in the war France themselves started (War of 1870-1871) and were losing and random Frenchmen would grab their guns and gun down German soldiers. It was ignored in WWII because Germany was "the bad guy" so it was perfectly fine to commit war crimes against them, as far as the Allies were concerned.
