I use to work for a temp company at a Dole salad factory. We made the Dole brand, the Kroger brand, the walmart brand, and the aldi brand! So I'm all for off brand products!!!
Just like you I am for the off brand in many products if it will save me money. Some people are just so picky like they will only use Aunt Jemima syrup for like $4 a bottle when it's not on sale but I would prefer to only pay $2 or $2.50 and buy store brand to save money. Another one is the Ketchup like it doesn't taste any different between heinz, hunts, or most store brands. Also with bagles or English muffins I buy based on price not buy brand.
April I try to tell people all the time how great ALDI and how much money they will save. My grocery bill went from agile $900 a month to $400 a month:) (two adults and three kids)
I don't know about the US but here in Europe every manufacturer has a code number. If you look at off-brand manufacturer's codes you will often discover they're made in the same factory as the name brand that costs double or more. Again, often with the same recipe as the more expensive model. The difference comes down to name and packaging.
Often times however, though the same company prepares and bakes them, the recipie will differ slightly, as most companies own their own recipies.. I have friends who work for Luprino, which does cheese, they make about 17 different recipies of the same cheese, packaged for different names.
That's often true with different products. I found out that the name brand pregnancy tests and the off-label pregnancy tests are made by the same manufacturer and are literally the same test, the only different is the name and one has nicer packaging, so that's probably true of a lot of other American products as well.
@Gus VanHorn Someone told me she thinks their cereals taste strange compared to the name brand but I personally see no difference except with the knockoff cinnamon toast crunch.
I think they stress real chocolate because a lot of brands use "chocolaty morsels", which use mostly palm oil and don't contain enough (or any) coco butter and can't legally be called chocolate.
I don't either most of the time which is why I am furious that Hershey took over the Cadbury brand in the US and we can no longer get the original Cadbury UK chocolate which tastes far superior! Hershey is awful except for Symphony. NESTLES is a bit better but it's anniversary ternational brand. I eat European stuff.
@@AEArato To me a proof that it's not the better one who wins. Not that I really thought Cadbury's chocolate is the best, but leaps better than the US brands any time.

Even though I am a huge Aldi fan, their snacks (anything Clancy) are weak. Taste is the main goal and Aldi brand snacks are pretty tasteless. What they have going for them is they are cheap. Aldi has some great cheap wines. Their Pinot Grigio and Merlot for $2.89 are great deals. They also have a Rose for $8 that was selected as one of the best Rose's in the world. For people who are lactose intolerant like me, they have a nice selection of Almond Milks. In recent years Aldi has really expanded their selection of non-food household items. I've found lots of great things I didn't know I needed on the Aldi shelves. I could go on, but people who live near an Aldi are lucky - affordable and decent groceries. Its no wonder Aldi is growing like mad.
I hate the non-food isles since they take food isles away and the food selection is getting worse and worse to the point where it is not worth it anymore to stop at Aldi. Many food isles vanished there and with it items that I used to get on a regular basis, not anymore.
amanda smith That pizza bread from aldis I'm gonna have to get some since it's cheaper I usually like to make sure I got some good food cause I have relatives who likes to sneak in snacks before they go home😏

Aldi is awesome, I shop there every week and cut my grocery bill by $50 switching to them. The only thing we (actually I should say my husband he’s the one that eats them) didn’t like was their version of pop-tarts, but thankfully they sell a few flavors of pop-tarts which is great. And right now they have all their “German” food items in, we love the soft pretzels and the apple strudel.
I changed my top of the line supermarket to Aldi 10 years ago here in the UK and I have never gone back. Aldi is top quality at a fraction of the cost. I have saved enough every 3 months to go on a week's vacation flights and all inclusive just by buying food I love. Aldi really is great.....
When my bff had small children, they moaned and groaned and complained when she bought store brands. She had a Captain Crunch box she refilled for years with the store brand stuff. Win Win we call that. I sure wish we had an Aldi!
michelle B I don’t but there’s one 35-45 minutes from my house but I honestly think it’s worth it . so much cheaper and I honestly like their way of work . no plastic bags u either bring your own bags or they have bags u can purchase

Aldi has an impressive line of Gluten-Free products: bread, cereal, baking mixes, etc. They are a fraction of the cost of the "big name" Gluten-Free products, cookie, cake and pancake mixes are yummy, but we haven't found a versatile all around GF baking mix from Aldi yet. We've been thrilled with superior produce at Aldi's and very, very good meats too. Some Aldi's are not towing the line, we know. But ours is really impressive and is our major grocery store!
If the name is to close to the copywrited name they can still get in trouble. Ie: someone developed a brand name called “south butt”. It was supposed to be a play on “north face”. They got served a cease and desist letter and had to stop using the name.
I am a big fan of Aldi for a number of reasons. One is speed; even with a wait to check out, it is faster than going to the traditional super market. Another is their selection of gluten-free options. I appreciate that you have to return your buggy (shopping cart for you northerners) to redeem your quarter because it keeps the parking lot clear of dent inducing buggies. Most importantly, I LOVE their Swiss Rolls (sorry Little Debbie)!
Micah Johnson Boxing is it possible to elaborate on this. I’m genuinely curious. For example if you have ketchup or mayonnaise, are they the same exact ingredients or do people just use the same facilities. How do they regulate quality differently in the same factory. For instance I’ve heard Costco Kirkland brand is often the same name brand without the name, such as Duracell batteries and north face jackers
I like Aldi's cheese (lots of variety of cheeses available)...my husband loves the Harvati Cheese. Enjoy the Greek Yogurt and the wonderful sour cream too...so thick and creamy. We have good luck purchasing food at Aldi and saves us a ton of money. Oh, the salsa is yummy too. Their chocolate is wonderful!
Yes, great price on their cheeses including shredded and specialty cheese that are fantastic and fun to try out, especially with wine. I do buy their deluxe American cheese over the Kraft deluxe now since it saves good money, but the Kraft deluxe does seem much firmer and more like deli cheese. The Aldi almost seems a tiny bit like process cheese singles, but close enough to the real stuff. Maybe just a texture thing.
Trader Joe's is ALDI North. That's nice for me because I get a lot of American products in Germany. ALDI in the US is ALDI South. Actually two different companies.
Aldi is trader joes:) in europe you see both brands as own brand in aldi xp depends on what got shipped to us that week xp the product is the exact same x0
I have shopped at Aldi for many years, and I love it. One thing nobody has mentioned is their double your money back guarantee! If you should accidentally buy that bag of grapes that were bad, bring the rest back to the store. They will give you your money back AND give you a new fresh bag of grapes. I believe that guarantee applies to everything in the store. I've brought back apples once. It was like someone had dropped the bag and the apples on the bottom of the bag were all bruised/rotten spots. No questions asked, including WHY I was returning them. She just asked me IF I was returning them, called for someone to bring me a new bag of the same apples and opened her money drawer and handed me my money back. Outstanding! Then, although SOME of Aldi's products have no artificial stuff or color, I believe that only applies consistently to their Fit and Active brand. Milk eggs, shredded cheese and Butter are always so much cheaper that there is often a limit on how many a person can purchase. Their Organic milk and their organic hamburger is delish too and real bargains. I love the Moma Cozzi Rising Crust pizza! But I can get a Papa Murphy's pizza for less than the fresh ones they sell. PS I dont like the cheetos type cheese curls, the cheez it type crackers nor the Funyon knock offs. But I LOVE their potato chips and have often wondered if they aren't Lays brand. The only other thing at Aldi that I didnt like was their Rice A Roni and Mac & Cheese knock offs. It's not horrible, just not very good. Finally, for some reason I always add an "S" to the end of Aldi when I refer to the store as in All-dees. I know it's not right, but for some reason I do it anyway. lol Great video and I love that your hubby participates!
Trader Joe's has some products that are name brand but with their packaging. Their version of Rice Krispies taste exactly the same to me so that would be my guess. Now their Joe's O's do not taste like Cheerios. There is a factory nearby that makes the same product for grocery stores as Whole Foods. They just use different packaging. I go for off brand if it tastes good but I will pay more for a better taste. Fun video!
@TheRenaissanceman65 in the UK Ive only heard people say it the second way she said it in the video. Dont understand how it's alldi when there is only one L
Maybe try Walmart brand to name brand, and target brand to name brand? or Walmart brand to aldi brand? The possibilities are endless! New sub here btw. Good video :)
I love these comparison videos. It saves me a lot of time & money from having to experiment on my own. Aldi recently opened in my area and I thought it was supposed to be terrible products. You've convinced me to give them a try. Thanks!!
I got the Raisin Bran at ALDI last Friday. I've basically finished it and to me it tastes identical to the name brand(with plenty of raisins, my main concern). I also got their version of Cocoa Pebbles but haven't tried that yet.
To get a good taste of the 2nd item, have you thought about cleaning your palate with water first? I would think that tasting them back-to-back wouldn't give you a true taste of the 2nd product. I love your taste tests, great to know cheaper is better sometimes!
Haha so funny. I bet you know Europe better than me... Doesn't matter, if you still have doubts, Uk press asked the correct way of pronounce "aldi" to the company. Check it out: www.thesun.co.uk/fabulous/food/6252189/youve-been-pronouncing-aldi-all-wrong-and-heres-the-final-word-from-the-store-itself/
I’m an avid Aldi shopper. My daughter loves the taco seasoning and the steak sauce more than the name brand ones. You have to try the fresh pizzas there. They are amazing.
For products you enjoy spend twice as much and have them half as often. For stuff you just consume and don’t savor get the generic. Surprised about the Aldi cookies. Nice vid.
If I ever live in a place where I can set up a coffee station, I definitely want (perhaps a smaller version of) that sign you have in the background. XD
The Aldi Clancy's snacks are very hit or miss. The cheese curls are not up to name brand spec but the chips generally are. The spicy hot cheese curls are a disaster, way below Hot Cheetos. But then, no store brand hot cheese curls is as good as the name brand. Aldi's Millville cereals are really outstanding. Every one I've tried has nailed it. Their various kinds of frozen pizza are also always outstanding. In my area, Aldi milk is exactly the same as Costco and Sam's Club milk. So it's top quality.
I just saw a video about Aldi (it was pronounced all-dee) and a couple of take-aways is that Aldi Nord is Trader Joe's and Aldi Sud is Aldi. They also have eliminated MSG, certified synthetic colors and partially hydrogenated oils from their exclusive brand food products. In addition, they no longer obtain honey from apiaries who use pesticides. On a side note, many years ago my brother was stationed in Hawaii and told us that during a tour of the Dole canning plant cans of pineapple were sent down different lines and each line had a different label. So, he told us to buy the cheapest pineapple because it was all Dole, and if one can was sweeter than another it was due to whether or not the pineapple was first (sweetest), second or third pick.
Great video! Loved it, you're fun to watch and very informational! I've been watching the British show Eat Well for Less, and they did brand vs. non-brand comparisons too but fun to see direct comparisons.
Yes, since "Aldi" is a german word (derives from Albrecht Discount), the A is a "normal" A. (According to the IPA, International Phonetic Alphabet.) 😊 Sounds most similar to the A in "Pizza" or the 2nd A in "Anna". 😁
German here, putting in my 1 cent (only one because Aldi is so cheap) re the pronunciation: We use a different type of A when saying it. It's more like the A in art, not like the one in all. But no matter how you pronounce them, their stuff is great quality for a low price.
I stumbled across this video because it popped up on my suggested videos and now I'm a subscriber! Lol. I dont even drink beer but I'm curious as to how to aldi beer held up to theCorona? I started following on insta but I'm guessing it was on a story because I didnt see the post. I need to know😂😂
Aldi and Trader Joe's are basically own same people. How do you start it in Germany there was two brothers but when they decide to come to America one brother took the East coast which is mostly all these and the other brother took the west coast is mostly trader Joe's
The pronunciation of Aldi is right. By the way a lot of brand producers also produce for Aldi. That's the reason why often packages as well as incridients are similar or identical.
Mama Cossi cheese breadsticks are amazing! It has a container of marinara and one of garlic butter.they also reheat nicely in the oven. I always have them on hand
Okay so you missed one thing to notice for the Raisin Bran.. but only because it was something I personally noticed. I tried Kroger Raisin Bran and while I got more raisins (which I love), they were harder for some reason. And it wasn’t just one box. It was every Kroger box I bought. Im interested in how Aldi’s brand compares to Kroger!
We didn’t get an aldi too long ago but the business is growing exponentially so don’t be surprised if one comes your way within the next few years or even sooner.... that being said, being in central Florida the stores I’ve seen here on RUclips that I’m most jealous of is some of those grocery outlet stores....have seen people get killer deals at those places, only catch I think is sometimes the items are nearing their date or come in a damaged box or something like that.
Aldi used to be good years ago. They are pushing blankets and kitchen ware and toys now and the food isles are disapperaing. About 10 to 15 years ago they had twice as many food isles than what they have now in the same store. You are better off with walmart, at least you get selection that may be even comparable on prices. Why drive across town and wast gasoline and time for a couple of items and then you have to go to another store anyways.
I think you are saying it correctly. That’s how I’ve always said it too. I love Aldi. I really haven’t found anything there that I don’t like vs. name brand. Also the Aldi products are non gmo. Preservative and pesticide free. So it’s a winner in my book.
I really got a kick out of this tasting video! Because of it, I just bought the Cinnamon Toasters (which are made by Post Cereals) and the Chewy bars, and think that they're good, too. It's funny how some of the foods at Dollar Tree are regional brands that don't have the distribution channels that the big guys have, and are little gems that are a fantastic value. If you get them in your area, try the Westminster Baking Co. Oyster Crackers; you'll usually see them near the soups, or on an end-cap. They're restaurant-quality, and are very fresh tasting. Hope you'll do more videos like this, because they're fun and eye-opening! P.S. May I ask about the coffee print behind you? Did you create it, or was it purchased? I need it in my life! Thanks!
I just discovered Aldi and am in love. The German-Roasted coffee is great. Their prices on produce beat even the super discount store I've shopped for years. No carts all over the parking lot because everyone wants their quarter back! I'm a convert.
A lot of aldi stuff are made in the same factory as the name brand. They just slap a private label on them & maybe tweak the ingredients a tad on some items, for better or worse, depending on ur palate.
I'm not going to lie, but I thought it was ironic that you were concerned that the Aldi's chocolate chip cookies said "made with real chocolate", but you kept saying, "I'm not going to lie", "let's be honest", "I going to be honest with you". That being said, it was a very interesting and entertaining video. I usually buy generic and agree that store brand cheese curls are never as good or as cheesy as Cheetos. To be honest, I pronounce Aldi the same as you. The other people must have been lying! ;-)

If the name is to close to the copywrited name they can still get in trouble.
Ie: someone developed a brand name called “south butt”. It was supposed to be a play on “north face”. They got served a cease and desist letter and had to stop using the name.
South butt 😂
I am a big fan of Aldi for a number of reasons. One is speed; even with a wait to check out, it is faster than going to the traditional super market. Another is their selection of gluten-free options. I appreciate that you have to return your buggy (shopping cart for you northerners) to redeem your quarter because it keeps the parking lot clear of dent inducing buggies. Most importantly, I LOVE their Swiss Rolls (sorry Little Debbie)!
I've worked in a couple factories, while it's true most stuff is made in same buildings, there are usually different lines and quality isn't the same
Micah Johnson Boxing is it possible to elaborate on this.
Aldi peach tea is my favorite! It tastes 1000x better than Snapple. Highly recommend!
As far as the Aldi videos go this is my favorite kind, the blind taste test is not always 100% reliable but pretty close. TheReaper!
Aldi doesn't have artificial colors or msg, so that's a good thing to keep in mind too when you're talking chips like doritos especially!
Their mac &cheese does not have dyes in it either.
The danger of msg is a complete myth with racist roots.
Maybe just a texture thing.
those aldi benton cookies are so good
I absolutely love the Aldi mixed nuts. It would have been interesting to see you compare those with the planters brand.
I dont know why but i love this video idea lol. Keep them coming.
If you watch their own commercials, they pronounce it like you do. So you are correct. 😊
Do a Trader Joe’s one! The best!
Umm I call BS. They are basically the same store, just split on a technicality of geographic service area.
Paul McQuown they aren't the same but some of their products are identical.
Far as I know Aldi owns Trader Joes so ya
Fun video!
Trader Joe's & Aldi owners are owed by brothers, so they might share some same secrets🙃
I have been binge watching your channel for 2 days now!!! love the content! xoxo
It's ALL-DI! Idk what other people were talking about. You say it just fine! Love this video 🤗
@TheRenaissanceman65 in the UK Ive only heard people say it the second way she said it in the video. Dont understand how it's alldi when there is only one L
It’s not OLDI it’s AL-DI
Pull tab cookies & beer tasting! So cute you two!
I worked in a company that made stuff for aldi and name brand we literally didnt change the product out just the packaging
I love these videos so much!!!! Already patiently awaiting the next one! Maybe Target's brand vs name brand!?!
Thanks!!
What was the verdict on the beer? I don't instagram
I don't even see it on her instagram :/
My guess it probably taste very similar like all the rest of the products. And yeah it’s still not up on instagram
They didn’t taste the same at all. The Aldis beer he said had a strong malt flavor like colt 45.
Haha, maybe Europeans love a strong tasting brew.
I got the Raisin Bran at ALDI last Friday. I've basically finished it and to me it tastes identical to the name brand(with plenty of raisins, my main concern). I also got their version of Cocoa Pebbles but haven't tried that yet.
THANKS FOR THIS! I will still continue to shop at Aldi ☺️😋
To get a good taste of the 2nd item, have you thought about cleaning your palate with water first? I would think that tasting them back-to-back wouldn't give you a true taste of the 2nd product. I love your taste tests, great to know cheaper is better sometimes!
I pronounce it the way you do. Don't tell me how to say words! Lol
In Europe, we pronounce 'Aldi' in the same way she did.
Haha so funny. I bet you know Europe better than me... Doesn't matter, if you still have doubts, Uk press asked the correct way of pronounce "aldi" to the company. Check it out: www.thesun.co.uk/fabulous/food/6252189/youve-been-pronouncing-aldi-all-wrong-and-heres-the-final-word-from-the-store-itself/
I’m an avid Aldi shopper. My daughter loves the taco seasoning and the steak sauce more than the name brand ones. You have to try the fresh pizzas there. They are amazing.
You're saying Aldi right don't listen to them it's All-dee
Put it in Google translate to German. Then you know how to pronounce it. Aldi is short for Albrecht-Discount a German chain.
its pronouns aud eee
For products you enjoy spend twice as much and have them half as often. For stuff you just consume and don’t savor get the generic. Surprised about the Aldi cookies. Nice vid.
I'm in RI and I definitely pronounce ALL-di like you. I love shopping at aldi. I save so much money. Great video.
They used to have these chili-lime cheese curls that I really enjoyed. The regular ones are better than some off brands, but normally pass them by.
I pronounce it the way you do....
Great video! Loved it, you're fun to watch and very informational! I've been watching the British show Eat Well for Less, and they did brand vs. non-brand comparisons too but fun to see direct comparisons.
Love these videos! Very informative.
Yes, since "Aldi" is a german word (derives from Albrecht Discount), the A is a "normal" A. (According to the IPA, International Phonetic Alphabet.) 😊
Sounds most similar to the A in "Pizza" or the 2nd A in "Anna". 😁
Kellogg’s Raisin Bran always taste stale 😭
Daniella Hernandez I thought it was just me
Wow you actually say my name right. Most people say Ben-ton. You say it right
German here, putting in my 1 cent (only one because Aldi is so cheap) re the pronunciation: We use a different type of A when saying it. It's more like the A in art, not like the one in all. But no matter how you pronounce them, their stuff is great quality for a low price.
You're pronouncing it right - from someone who lived in Germany for a year where it was our only grocery store in town!!
I live in St. Louis and we pronounce it "ALL-dee" also. Love your videos ❤️
Anne Rohrbacker Imo's, Ted Drewes, gooey cake and toasted ravioli!😍
I stumbled across this video because it popped up on my suggested videos and now I'm a subscriber! Lol. I dont even drink beer but I'm curious as to how to aldi beer held up to theCorona? I started following on insta but I'm guessing it was on a story because I didnt see the post. I need to know😂😂
millville raisin bran is where its at
Yo Yo I like aldis oatmeal it's so good.
And the Lucky Charms copycat is good too.
And their Golden Grahams
Two sips of beer will not harm your unborn child.
Aldi foods (Clancy's) is the same as Trader Joe's products. Same owner, same products, different packages.
Aldi and Trader Joe's are basically own same people. How do you start it in Germany there was two brothers but when they decide to come to America one brother took the East coast which is mostly all these and the other brother took the west coast is mostly trader Joe's
Fun video!! FYI...the links in your description aren’t clickable. Thought you’d like to know. ☺️
The pronunciation of Aldi is right. By the way a lot of brand producers also produce for Aldi. That's the reason why often packages as well as incridients are similar or identical.
I know for a fact,in Austria it is pronounced All Dee.
Mama Cossi cheese breadsticks are amazing! It has a container of marinara and one of garlic butter.they also reheat nicely in the oven. I always have them on hand
Aldi's brand taste just as good for half the price. Doesn't makes sense to pay more for a slight difference on junk food
Love this idea and thanks so much for sharing!
Love this video idea! Would love to see a dollar general version of this! The brand is clover valley I believe.
I wish we had an aldi here in Louisiana 😒 we’re stuck with Walmart and smaller chain grocery stores. No Kroger’s or anything else
april sproles Well I sometimes get walmart brand snack goodies and they taste the same as the name brand..
"You know they have a pull tab, right?" 😂😂😂
I think you are saying it correctly. That’s how I’ve always said it too. I love Aldi. I really haven’t found anything there that I don’t like vs. name brand. Also the Aldi products are non gmo. Preservative and pesticide free. So it’s a winner in my book.
Thank you. I've discovered cheaper is not always better. Sometimes you get a winner!
The associates at the ALLDEE I go to call it ALLDEE. And thanks for the comparisons.
Everybody I know (including me) pronounces “Aldi” the same way you do. 😂
Who cares how you pronounced it..we all know what you were talking about..my goodness..enjoyed the video.new subbie
The lemon Fiber Now bars are SOOOOOO GOOD.
I think you are pronouncing it right, everyone I met pronounces it your way
I really got a kick out of this tasting video! Thanks!
I've never heard Aldi pronounced any other way.. you're saying it right!
I just discovered Aldi and am in love. The German-Roasted coffee is great. Their prices on produce beat even the super discount store I've shopped for years. No carts all over the parking lot because everyone wants their quarter back! I'm a convert.
Pronunciations vary by region. I say alldee too.
I've never heard anyone pronounce it differently than you. You're saying it correctly.
Everybody knows Cheetos’ taste and texture.
A lot of aldi stuff are made in the same factory as the name brand. They just slap a private label on them & maybe tweak the ingredients a tad on some items, for better or worse, depending on ur palate.
Naaaww you said it correctly the first time. Don't listen to the trolls.
The other people must have been lying! ;-)
Just found your channel I’m from Australia
I love ALL-DEE😊. Great taste testing video:) 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. Now it’s time for lunch🤙🏼
