My Vocation Story | Rev. Mr. Cole Powers

Rev. Mr. Cole Powers will be ordained to the priesthood on May 13, 2023 at St. Michael's Cathedral Basilica.
Rev. Mr. Matthew Cole Powers, 31, is a Toronto native, who was brought up in a loving family as the oldest of three boys. His parents both work in creative fields, and, while Deacon Cole was growing up, placed a strong emphasis on the importance of reason, freedom, and culture. When he went to Montreal to study philosophy and English, Cole encountered fellow students belonging to the Catholic lay movement Communion and Liberation. This encounter profoundly marked his path in life and introduced him to the beauty of Christianity. This path led to his Baptism and reception into the Catholic Church at the age of 21. Shortly thereafter, he began to perceive the exclusivity of the Lord's claim upon him, and felt the call to follow Christ in the priesthood. After two years of private discernment, he contacted Fr. Chris Lemieux, and later entered St. Augustine's Seminary. After seven years of formation at St. Augustine's, Deacon Cole is filled with gratitude for this unexpected adventure which has led him to a deeper encounter with the Lord than he ever anticipated.
