This looks like a terrific tool, and I love the fact that it's cross-platform and open source. It also seems to have some very convenient nodes that are missing from other tools and are nontrivial to implement as sub-graphs, such as the curve node. Material Maker looks as if it would be very easy for new artists to learn, too. Thanks for the info!
AFAIK ArmorPaint (an open source alternative to Substance Painter) also has procedural materials editor, so you can create your own cool library and use it for texturing :)
I appreciate you bringing attention to this because its a really great foundation to an open source project. It's useable now but does crash from time to time . The open source nature of it makes me excited for its future.
this tool looks really good! I was a little lost, even used to blender nodes, but it's a video just showing the tool, and it showed its potential! I am going to try!
I use Substance Designer in the past on Windows. But since I switched to Linux, I use Material maker. I'm very glad I don't have to use Substance Designer anymore.
@@cekuhnen To export PNG texture files, yes. To export something like sbs file, no. I think sbs file can be directly use in Unreal and change parameters to get texture variations. MM can't do that. But PNG and EXR texture files are enough for me. MM can do complex textures such as Florals design on the woman's clothing. Just like in Substance Designer.
Substance designer still works on Linux if you buy the perpetual license (best value license) This doesn't look anywhere near as powerfull yet but maybe one day...
Blender people have nodes but this does look interesting... Never really understood the whole substance painter thing. What's the advantages of this extra program workflow?
Have smart masks, best baking abilities, smart materials, layers, decals with normals, asset library, many material export presets, ton of materials made to work with the software that u can create in designer, download from web or buy subscribtion (😒) to whole library of different materials, it nicely supports drawing tablets, have drawing in symmetry, have particle brushes (simulations of some kind for weather effects, burn effects etc) and in general tool optimized strictly for texturing

Dude this is perfect! iv'e been looking for a standalone tool for editing and updating existing textures non-destructively and this has it all.
Do you any tool for creating custom human model?
