Oh man, I loved Laura Branigan. She came on the scene in the early 80s. The first hit song that she had was "Gloria". I used to have a cassette tape of hers and I loved every song on that tape!
Laura Branigan, the best female vocalist (in my opinion) My all time favorite. I’d read in another post of this song, that Laura put such much into singing this in the studio, that she passed out during the recording of it. I don’t know if it’s true or not, but I sure could understand how. What a fantastic voice she had! If there was ever one place I’d like to have been, is in an audience or recording studio with the beautiful vocalist! I’ve yet to ever hear one voice even come close to her unique style. Also, on top of that, I’ve never heard one negative remark to her as a person. Laura Branigan’s music, especially this song, will always hold a special place in mg heart. Suggestion: her song, “With Every Beat Of My Heart”, is a beauty too! :-)
37 years ago and at 15 yrs old I was madly in love with Laura Branigan, had her cassette tapes and played them over and over. What can I say, I was her man lol. Gone way too young but music lives on
I love love Barry, & saw him do an incredible live version of this at Radio City Hall in the 90’s... excellent! And I love Laura B, my dad was a huge fan of hers & I saw her live in England as a kid, she’s awesome. I love her version of this as much as Celine’s, excellent! 🙌🖤
I am familiar with "Power of Love" as a Celine Dion song. I had to google it cause i was curious. It was first released int 1984 by Jennifer Rush, this version is 1987, and Celine's version was 1993. Love this song and her voice sounds great.
@TheGsxstage1 Where? Jennifer Rush hit number 1 on a number of countries charts but not in the US. Celine Dion hit #1 in the US and in a number of other countries. As far as I know, Laura Branigan did better with it in the US than Jennifer Rush but it didn't reach #1.
This was my dear mother's favourite song and unfortunately passed before I had my first child, when I was in labour this song came on the radio and I new she was with me. It became her most loved song after my dad passed ❤️
Celine Dion and Air Supply did this song, but Laura, by far, has the most powerful and amazing voice. She will always be one of my favorites. Same with Barry.
I saw Manilow in concert only once, but he was awesome. Always loved his music. Laura Branigan I've always been a fan of. I remember when she was in an episode of CHIPs circa late 70s and early 80s. Awesome talent w/ plenty of good songs like Gloria, Self Control and Shattered Glass to name a few.
loved, loved Barry Manilow. i was learning to play the piano when he came out with 'Mandy"he really inspired me to try harder and of course i learned how to play his songs.
She sang this before Celine Dion. Laura's is so much better to my ears and my choice of the two. She loved her husband and stayed with him until he died of cancer.
Celine Dion is what you’re thinking of- ok..love Whitney.. however I was always so griped when she covered it and so many thought it was HER song- Also respect to Jennifer Rush- however Laura’s is the ONLY one that exist to me!! Whitney definitely belted it out well, however Laura and her beautiful raspy voice, brings the tears- ❤️✌️✨
I am a huge Barry fan, have seen him live many times, he is the consummate performer and has such a wide range of styles. You should really try Weekend in New England or Could It Be Magic, both brilliant.
Oh, my goodness, Barry Manilow was so popular when I was young. When I was in junior high, his songs were always played at the skating rink. I had a lot of his albums. One of his most famous songs waa "I Wrote the Songs," which was huge. He had a lot of hits. His voice was phenomenal and his piano playing was outstanding. This song was enormously popular. He's a great story-telling singer.
Copacabana is an iconic nightclub in NYC. In its heyday the biggest names performed, and recorded albums there. The owner was part of the mob. It just closed after 80 years due to COVID-19, and plans to reopen next year❤️
Copacabana came out in 1978; I was a high school junior. The Even Now lp has some great songs..one that never got the attention it deserved was A Linda Song. BM has a magnificent voice.
Everyone in our modern times seems to only know Celine's version (I guess the younger crowd of course would only know that one) but I think this is the best version (apart from the original). Love the way Laura's voice breaks, and the rasp and almost 'rock' edge to it that Celine's does not have. Nothing personal against Celine, she's amazing, too. But Laura tops all for me. RIP.
I was 17 when copa came out at the height of the disco era...loved the song never get tired of it. Loved most of Barry Mannilows music Can’t smile without you, Brandy, Weekend in New England, Even now.... check them out
Hello! Old lady ( not real old but sure older then most ) who just joined today with the help of my son who's in the Marines and you are too much fun. He's home on leave and couldn't figure out why I would be sitting with a big smile on my face for the last hour looking at my lap top so I had to show him and he said " mom we watch his videos over seas ". So he hooked me up so I can like your page and comment. You can see you have a big heart and a kind soul! 😁
Copacabana had it's own little TV movie. Yeah really. Barry Manilow played Tony. There was a song in it called Who Needs to Dream that me and my friend Ruth sang along with. Corny but I loved it. Laura Brannigan has one of the strongest most amazing voices of our time. Celine Dion put this out too. So did Air Supply (Cause you are my lady...). Beautiful song. Trying to remember the name of the songwriter. Right on the tip of my tongue. Dang.
I think it's inevitable and funny that you connect all this older music to games and movies. I'm a generation ahead of you. I remember them from the radio and variety shows on TV. I enjoy your channel.
Laura Branigan had the "belt it out there" type voice, sadly the "belt-y" songs weren't very popular back then. I was a fanatic about her, and had all the cassettes, then discs. She adds a raspiness to this, so it sounds like it has more feeling. The original artist/writer is Jennifer Rush, and the more popular remake from the early 90s was Celine Dion, who has the powerful voice but not with the feeling (and to me has a country twang at the end).
I’ve seen Barry in concert many times. He puts his heart and soul into performing. Wish I could see him again. 🥰❤️🥰. Please react to his song “Weekend in New England”.
Laura and Celine Dion sound a lot alike. this is a cuddling song with my husband. so romantic or date night music to go parking. i don't care how old you are. sing it to your man and watch the magic happen.lol.
Fun (kinda) song by Manilow. 1st song I remember by him that I loved as a mid teen was "Mandy" .. then a few yrs later "Looks Like We Made It" became a fav of mine. The later released ('77) not long after I married my highschool sweetheart when we were truly just kids, hence looks like we made it😉 Now as for "The Power Of Love" .. this has been covered by many "power" voices but the original artist is Jennifer Rush who wrote & sang this beautiful song. I may get some haters .. but I have to say my fav of all singing this particular song is Celine Dion. To b fair .. I just reviewed several of those power voices singing this & I still really luv Celine best .. but that's just MY opinion. The clarity of Celine's voice, her range & the personal ending is what I favor. Admittedly it is a tough choice .. they're all awesome in their own ways. If any of them were played .. I'd listen to each one of them.🥰 Ty, Barbara & Nikki .. thnx so much for requesting & playing these 2. Top notch tracks of their time. Ty I think the change up was great .. u should do that more often & keep listeners on their toes .. LOL. Seize the day & God Bless ❣️🙏🏼🙋🏼♀️
I loved this song when I was a little girl, omg. I remembered all the words. The Copacabana! (Evidently didn't recall the spelling. Maybe never saw the written word...)
In his heyday, Barry had his own show in Vegas. I saw him in concert at the Kennedy Center. It was supposed to be a 2-hour show that turned into a 3-hour show.
Not only does Laura hit this one way out of the park, I want to give a nod to the arranger, percussionists or whoever, for the beat that makes the sound of a heartbeat throughout. The other singer you were talking about is Celine Dion and she also sang this song and you probably heard it by her but this version sounds very different and in my opinion: better.
@Modern Renaissance Man I somehow forgot about Laura Branigan. Didn’t realize that she sang this. You are trying to remember Celine Dion, who covered this. I am now in love with both versions.
When a woman lifts up her man, it creates in the average male an intense desire to do all HE can for HER. It naturally flips the original lines of the song. But a man who feels beat down, constantly belittled, or ignored will become more distant and defensive. The opposite of love isn't hate, it's apathy.
Some of the greatest love songs ever, came from the pen and piano, of Barry Manilow. (You've probably heard a few) One of my favorite Manilow songs is *"Even Now"* followed closely by *"I Write The Songs"* I've never understood the hate he's garnered from some segments of the population, just because of his song styles and tendency to write popular hits(much like Nickleback haters) I have always loved Laura's voice. The power and clarity.Much like Pat Benatar, I put her up there almost with Karen Carpenter
The first time I heard Power of Love was in 1985, when it was a minor hit in the US for Air Supply (but a bigger hit outside the US). The following year, one of the co-writers of the song, Jennifer Rush, released her own version and it was a huge hit for her throughout Europe. Then in 1987, Laura (who seemed to specialize in doing covers of songs that were hits in Europe) released what I have always considered the "correct" version of the song - performed with thundering, devastating vocal power rather than the comparatively soft and delicate versions we hear from Air Supply, Jennifer Rush and Celine Dion.
I think the reason why it sounds familiar to you cause it was a cover that she did. The original was like back in 1985 I think but I prefer this version as it has more vocal range if you know what I mean, whereas the original is more of a slow but less like this one 😌 Laura branigan can literally do a 14 second long note In one of her songs such as Solitaire. What’s sad that most record labels rejected her cause she didn’t sound like any other artists at the time.
Exactly. She had this powerful voice when the radio was full of Debbie Gibson, Tiffany, Madonna and other weak voiced females. I loved them all, but Laura was so far ahead of most of them. Sheena Easton was pretty strong too, and Taylor Dayne.
I wish everyone the does video reactions did them like you! LISTEN to the song and then give your reaction. I hate when people talk through songs. BTW, Barry Manilow is an amazing songwriter and singer/pianist. Check out "I Write the Songs" and "Mandy"
Love Barry Manilow. I keep thinking about "Ready to take a chance again" and the movie Foul Play. I like Laura Branigans version better than Celine Dions version but nothing beats the original version by Jennifer Rush.
Prefer the original of Power of Love by Jennifer Rush. Her version was a #1 hit in a lot of countries but only made it to #57 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
There's only two versions of The Power Of Love worth listening to, one is by Laura & the other by the co-writer Jennifer Rush both brilliant & different in there own way
Wow LAURA Branigan!
That cry in Laura’s voice. God bless her. She was so talented.
Lost too soon.
I really Love your comment
Laura Branigan's version of this is the best. It was originally done by Jennifer Rush and also covered by Celine Dion.
The 80s wouldnt been same without Laura...RIP LAURA
Laura Branigan possibly had the greatest range of any female singer. It was a great loss when she died so young.
R.I.P. angel.
Oh man, I loved Laura Branigan. She came on the scene in the early 80s. The first hit song that she had was "Gloria". I used to have a cassette tape of hers and I loved every song on that tape!
Laura Branigan was HOT! And Gloria was a pretty good song.
I had it on record - not sure what the the flip side had on it :)
She had so many wonderful songs on every album that never got on the radio.
Laura has so much feeling when she sings
I had forgotten how good her version was thanks been years , amazing performance , I always loved her song gloria
Laura always puts lots of emotion in her singing.
I love Laura's voice. Check out her song Gloria.
Huge thank you for this reaction video. Powerful song and artist. I would like to smash the "Like" button 1M times.
Laura Branigan, the best female vocalist (in my opinion)

37 years ago and at 15 yrs old I was madly in love with Laura Branigan, had her cassette tapes and played them over and over. What can I say, I was her man lol. Gone way too young but music lives on
LOL, I was the same., had all her cassettes. Worn them out.
I love love Barry, & saw him do an incredible live version of this at Radio City Hall in the 90’s... excellent! And I love Laura B, my dad was a huge fan of hers & I saw her live in England as a kid, she’s awesome. I love her version of this as much as Celine’s, excellent! 🙌🖤
I really liked Laura's song "Self Control."
Me too
And her songs Solitaire and Gloria
I like her version of How Am I Supposed To Live Without You better than Michael Bolton
She's Popular until now here in Philippines
Absolutely loved Laura. She still gives me goosebumps. I am so glad I have 2 of her vinyl albums. Loud volume with great speakers...priceless.
I am familiar with "Power of Love" as a Celine Dion song. I had to google it cause i was curious. It was first released int 1984 by Jennifer Rush, this version is 1987, and Celine's version was 1993. Love this song and her voice sounds great.

Barry Manilow's music dominated the late 70s. He's still going strong at 80 years old. His voice is just as great today and his shows are outstanding
Celine Dion and Air Supply did this song, but Laura, by far, has the most powerful and amazing voice. She will always be one of my favorites. Same with Barry.
Jennifer Rush sung the original
Barry Manilow has a great voice.
Copacabana was not just a song. It was a force of nature....
✨Oh I’m so excited- finally... LAURA BRANIGAN doing “power of love”, as it should be- imho... love both these songs- ready, set, go! ❤️💛☮️💟✌️✨
I ❤️Barry Manilow and Laura Brannigan. I remember Celine Dion singing Laura's song.
loved, loved Barry Manilow. i was learning to play the piano when he came out with 'Mandy"he really inspired me to try harder and of course i learned how to play his songs.

She was a wonderful woman. A rare breed. I love her even more for what she did for her poor husband.
I agree I love Luara's version the best.

"...with a dress cut down 'to deah' ..another of so many great singer/song writers from Brooklyn!
Love both singer's
Awesome voices..I am actually glad that they made it to your "Play list"...mine too
There are several videos of Laura performing this song live that are far superior than the studio recording
Copacabana is an iconic nightclub in NYC. In its heyday the biggest names performed, and recorded albums there. The owner was part of the mob. It just closed after 80 years due to COVID-19, and plans to reopen next year❤️

Barry sure gave a great show back in the day.❣❣

Celion Dion sang cover this song. But I love Laura for the same reasons her raspy voice that is subtle but powerful.
One of Barry's biggest hits, a cross between Desi Arnaz style big band and 70's disco, with a happy beat to tell a sad story.
Hello! Old lady ( not real old but sure older then most ) who just joined today with the help of my son who's in the Marines and you are too much fun. I knew this song back in the day but had never seen the video. It surprised me as Barry seems to be always be behind his piano. Very fun.
Roller skated to a lot of his songs. A prolific writer for himself and others. Wrote a lot of commercials too. Multi-talented🤟
Barry has a lot of driving tunes. A lot of hits that's for sure
She has some incredible songs she was able to release before she passed. Listen to her top hits.
Celine Dion is one of the many who have released this
Copacabana had it's own little TV movie. Yeah really. Barry Manilow played Tony. There was a song in it called Who Needs to Dream that me and my friend Ruth sang along with. Corny but I loved it.

💯What you said!!❤️🤘🏻
Didn't remember Laura doing this song Only Celine . Copa Cabana makes me think of my room back in 78 /79
Power of Love by her was another song i had in my 2000 song list for you to react to. I LOVE HER VERSION!!!!
Solitaire and Meaning of the Word is great
Please give Barry's "Swing Street" a reaction. Awesome.!!
How did I not know Laura Branigan sang this?!?
Laura Branigan had the "belt it out there" type voice, sadly the "belt-y" songs weren't very popular back then. I was a fanatic about her, and had all the cassettes, then discs. In 1996 Celine Dion's version of Power Of Love was played at my wedding reception as "the first dance."
I’ve seen Barry in concert many times. He puts his heart and soul into performing. Wish I could see him again. 🥰❤️🥰. Please react to his song “Weekend in New England”.
Are you ok? You look tired and a little down sweetie! Love both songs thankyou for sharing them and your thoughts. Take care 🐨
COPACABANA É O RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL! ❤❤❤💋🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Laura and Celine Dion sound a lot alike. this is a cuddling song with my husband. so romantic or date night music to go parking. i don't care how old you are. sing it to your man and watch the magic happen.lol.
for me laura branigan's version is the best. for me it's better than celine's version it's much emotional version than celine's version.
The first time I heard this song is right now when I heard your reaction to it.
Every time I hear anything about the Copacabana I think about the big brawl the Yankees got into there in 1957.
Fun (kinda) song by Manilow. 1st song I remember by him that I loved as a mid teen was "Mandy" .. then a few yrs later "Looks Like We Made It" became a fav of mine. The later released ('77) not long after I married my highschool sweetheart when we were truly just kids, hence looks like we made it😉

Didn't see that song coming!
Not only does Laura hit this one way out of the park, I want to give a nod to the arranger, percussionists or whoever, for the beat that makes the sound of a heartbeat throughout. @Modern Renaissance Man I somehow forgot about Laura Branigan. Didn’t realize that she sang this. You are trying to remember Celine Dion, who covered this. I am now in love with both versions.
I love Celine Dion's My Prayer.
You will never ever beat Jennifer Rush singing "The Power Of Love".. Massive hit in the UK in 1985 and still the best version.
Celine Dion did it, and was fantastic, but I have to say it...she did a BETTER job of it. Dang it.
When a woman lifts up her man, it creates in the average male an intense desire to do all HE can for HER. It naturally flips the original lines of the song.
But a man who feels beat down, constantly belittled, or ignored will become more distant and defensive. The opposite of love isn't hate, it's apathy.
Celine Dion sang this song also. But Laura did it better
Laura’s version was the best hands down!
Why am I thinking of Celine Dion when I listen to this. And I'm also a big Fanilow.
My favorite version on the power of love was by Air Supply in 1985.
I’ve always said this is the most savage song I’ve ever heard. Brutal. Wrapped up in some goofy tunes. But the words and excellent.
Some of the greatest love songs ever, came from the pen and piano, of Barry Manilow. (You've probably heard a few) One of my favorite Manilow songs is *"Even Now"* followed closely by *"I Write The Songs"* I've never understood the hate he's garnered from some segments of the population, just because of his song styles and tendency to write popular hits(much like Nickleback haters)
I have always loved Laura's voice. The power and clarity.Much like Pat Benatar, I put her up there almost with Karen Carpenter
Copacabana is a great song but dark if you listen to the words.
The first time I heard Power of Love was in 1985, when it was a minor hit in the US for Air Supply (but a bigger hit outside the US). The following year, one of the co-writers of the song, Jennifer Rush, released her own version and it was a huge hit for her throughout Europe. I think Celine Dion may have covered this.
Celine Dion did a cover of it!
I wish everyone the does video reactions did them like you! LISTEN to the song and then give your reaction. I hate when people talk through songs. BTW, Barry Manilow is an amazing songwriter and singer/pianist. Check out "I Write the Songs" and "Mandy"
Fun to watch, as always. You really need to check out Epica 'Sancta-Terra' live featuring Floor Jansen. Incredible!
Thank you for that! One can never have too much Floor.
If you never saw the made for tv movie of Copacabana, Lola accidentally shoots Tony.
Can you listen to Loreena McKennitt, song The Old Ways (live) Nights of the Alhambra. She is a wonderful artist.
Copacabana great karaoke song!
For such a “upbeat” song, it’s really quite sad. Never wrong with Barry Manilow.
Celine Dion did a cover of ' Power of Love' several years ago.
You heard the Celine Deon version this Song
There's only two versions of The Power Of Love worth listening to, one is by Laura & the other by the co-writer Jennifer Rush both brilliant & different in there own way
Celine Dion does this song! The Power of Love, that is.
The other singer you are thinking of is Celene Dion.
Both Laura Branigan and Celine Dion did fine cover versions of this song, but I still prefer Jennifer Rush's original version.
Song from the Titanic My Heart Will Go On Celine Dion
Doesn't Celine Dion do Power of Love? Both voices on this are great.
