Ironbridge Power Station Demolition In Slow Motion - Top Of The Wrekin

The iconic pink Ironbridge Power Station chimneys were demolished today and I took this slow-motion footage of the chimneys falling down from the top of the Wrekin. Along with many other people.

I had the local radio station playing as I was on delivery in Horsehay nearby and the number of people interviewed who thought the cooling towers were something to do with the Industrial Revolution was rather worrying.

Kind of sad to see them destroyed after all these years because they have been a such land mark. Rugeley power is really gonna upset me. I’ve known those towers since I was a toddler. I stood next to the towers when I was in my teens, I’m 34 now and they are not from from being taken down now. End of a era 😢 strange that you would feel that way about giant chimneys but when you have grown up with them it’s hard to say goodbye to them. Land Marks disappearing it’s sad. I’m sure there someone out there that’s feels the same.

superade1000 I feel the exact same way about Ironbridge cooling towers. I knew them since I was born in 97. We drove past them every day to go to school, and I could even see the smoke stack from my house. and as a kid they would fascinate me. When I found out they were being taken down, I nearly cried. And when they were taken down, I shed many tears. I recorded my own video on my channel, but it’s hard to watch because I always get a pang if sadness.
It’s strange that we get attached to such things - but like you said yourself; we grew up with them. And I will forever miss the iconic Ironbridge cooling towers.

Sahvi what a lovely read 🙂 glad you understand where I’m coming from. I’m dreading the day when Rugeleys come down 😢 but I have to be there. The rest of the site is being demolished at the mo, so we are getting closer to the day the towers meet the ground. Sad times. I think what also makes it worse is that the skyline will never be the same. You could see them from miles away and you knew you weren’t far from home, you always felt happy. Soon there shall be nothing 😢
