Slipknot's dark and disturbing image - particularly their masks - were a visual representation of what the music sounded like, but Taylor says it was "never really about being scary. "We were all just kind of these balls of psychosis that were just trying to work out this kind of frenetic energy, this hyperactive intensity, basically. The masks just helped us kind of tap into it a little more. We just wanted to go out and we just wanted it to be, you know, the wildest thing anybody's ever seen…"It was about being intimidating, obviously, but it was also much more of a creative thing. This was a way for us to kind of wear the music on us physically and create something that was striking."
Actually clown used to wear it and bring the mask everywhere they went and they didn't want to wear masks but clown kept pushing it so they went with it and never turned back.
One of my favorite Corey masks, (Also HANDS DOWN! Corey Taylor is one of, if not, the best vocalist of our generation!!) is the one with the big eye and small mouth. Like, to me? It represents observation and a slowness to talk or judge. Like, Silence is golden and duct tape is silver haha!
They started with duct tape wrapped around their faces before the masks
Well said. I had 4 lads all totally different, I loved that one was into rap, heavy, reggae and pop, yes my youngest was gay but bi. I think he's just like me and doesn't care as it's not about s*x you can get that off all genders❤
Jup, and I also love that they switch the masks with every new album. Always a spectacle to see and wait for. :)
The star thing is their symbol. It has 9 points because the band started with 9 members.
Do you want to get floored by Cory Taylor? Listen to "Corey Taylor - Snuff (Acoustic)" Your jaw will hit the floor and you will get a tear in your eyes! You've heard nothing like it before!
Absolutely! 💜
Yes❤
This!!
Absolutely !!!
Yes Please!!!!❤ That's such a deep song and a great performance
Slipknot is not evil. Dark imagery and lyrics are misunderstood a lot as evil, in heavy metal, understandably, when you don't understand that it's all a metaphor for the real "demons" everyone deals with in life. Since everyone's journey is different, this can mean SO many different things to different people. I've been a metal head since 15. This type of music saved me many times. But it's not for everyone, and that's ok! Great reaction ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Slipknot is not heavy métal is New metal
Thanks for clarifying. No one would have understood me without your correction. 😂😂😂
I’m glad you read the lyrics.
Alot of reactors say “cool rock song, like and subscribe, bye”
It’s an amazing song.
Sadly timeless for humanity.
Cory Taylor has his own band called Stone Sour. They are completely different from Slipknot. You would probably enjoy them immensely. Cory is the lead vocalist and has an incredible singing voice. You should check out his live performance of Snuff. You'll never look at Cory the same way you do now. However, in saying that, keep reacting to Slipknot. If it seems like everything Cory Taylor gets involved in is Mad Awesome, it's because It Is.
BTW- I'm a soon to be 50yr old white dude, retired USMC Combat Vet Spec Ops Scout/Sniper. I just have to say it's really refreshing to see someone from my generation who is willing to have an open mind and expand your musical horizons to music and artists whom you've never heard of. Keep up the good work Brother! Much love! SEMPER FI!! Go Recon!
Slipknot is far from evil or scary. They just are an artform and the kids dig it. They care about their fans and have always been an awesome band to follow.
You absolutely need to do Slipknots Snuff, Dead Memories, Vermillion parts 1 and 2, Duality, before i forget. Corey and the gang are legends, their live shows for a long time were unrivaled for their energy and crowd involvement. RIP Paul and Joey.
Pulse of the Maggots is a must also
Corey Taylor is a legit human rabbit hole. There's a video where he covers Purple Rain live at Prince's home town, here on YT. I saw a display of the masks in Vegas. They are actually hand crafted works of art. The newest CT mask is an actual nightmare.
its the best mask to date IMO
I saw a video of him somewhat recently singing the Spongebob theme song with Tom Kenny
@@Erftan57 He covered the Spongebob theme song on his acoustic tour a few years back
Nonagram is the 9 pointed "star" youre referring to. Theres a lot of significance behind it. But in short, each point connected to the circle represents each one of them in unity.
I made it to the end and the fact that you actually took the time to read through the lyrics was dope
The "light bulb moment" is part of why we're here too, keep up the good work dude
More, Slipknot: The Devil In I.
Guarantee you no one would complain if you listened to the song thru once then went back and listened again and did your dissection of the lyrics. 👍🏽😁
My impression was it being anti-war. This came out during the war in the middle east so maybe that influenced me. Go drill your deserts dig your graves. War for oil. And then he talk about purple hearts near the end. Im sure there are multiple interpretations
There are a lot of very deep, meaningful songs as well as impactful subject matter hidden away in the the aggressive facade of heavy metal. It is always fun seeing someone who had a misconception about the genre actually sit down and give it a listen with a critical ear... Even if they get scared by Halloween masks and drop tuning ;)
Psuedo is pronounced: Sue Dough
Check out Liberate by Disturbed
liberate.. MY MADNESSS
Corey Taylor is extremely intelligent and well spoken he uses lots of big words, he could play a show at night and the next day give a lecture at Harvard.
Oh, the first slipknow song you were talking about, the lyrics were meant to convey rubbing the eyes, pressing on them like when you have a headache... Not poking your eyes out lol
Lol I never got that when I listened to that song
@@benclements5808 Well, read the lyrics as someone exhausted, angry, head hurting from all the BS they are dealing with. That anguish gives way to anger, at the end of the song.
"I push my fingers into my eyes
It's the only thing that slowly stops the ache
But it's made of all the things I have to take
Jesus, it never ends, it works it's way inside
If the pain goes on
I have screamed until my veins collapsed
I've waited as my time's elapsed
Now, all I do is live with so much hate
I've wished for this, I've bitched at that
I've left behind this little fact
You cannot kill what you did not create
I've gotta say what I've gotta say
And then, I swear, I'll go away
But I can't promise you'll enjoy the noise
I guess I'll save the best for last
My future seems like one big past
You're left with me 'cause you left me no choice"
It's actually written about the time Corey had migraines and how he felt
SlipKnot is from Iowa, that should explain all you need to know!
Nothing there, religion, military, and conforming? 😂😂😂sounds like my childhood ❤
Vermillion Part 1 and Part 2 are about a serial killer before and after a kill. Pretty amazing to be honest. Should check them out!
You got there before I did.
What a barbarous way to sell this beautiful song.
You should do Spit It Out by Slipknot studio and live at download fest 2009 version.
As a teenager going through dark raw emotions! Slipknot was just relatable in a way of not being alone.
Now as I’m older understanding lyrics in the songs I’ve always loved have been an eye opener. Slipknot however is DEEP… kind of relates to some things happening in the world even now, this song specifically like about digging in the desert. Taking water/resources right out from under our noses. Love his lyrics bc it’s like code 🎵🌎🐇
Like your reactions dude and getting into it!
Others have mentioned where the masks originated, but one element they don’t typically touch on is the freedom wearing a mask provides. You’re not worried about how contorted your face is when you’re being expressive, you’re free to just be in the moment. They can be more true to themselves and authentic, without worrying about having to “put on a show” that might take them out of the immersion of that experience. You could even say that the unmasked face they show in public is the “mask”, the social norms and conformity we abide by. By putting the actual mask on, they free themselves from those expectations and can reveal their true nature. The masks change from album to album as each individual’s representation of themselves evolves with their personal growth.
Easiest example of this is -go try and heavy metal scream in public. Feel self conscious? Try it with a mask and see how much more free you feel
My absolute favorite Slipknot song that is never mentioned is AOV....greatly underrated....
Another one of my favorite Slipknot joints is “Dead Memories”
Yes, to more Slipknot. You should react to Spit It Out live at Download 2009. You'll gain an appreciation for Corey Taylor's stage presence, which is on another level. And there's an amazing surprise at the end. I won't say what it is. You'll know when you see it.
their masks - were a visual representation of what the music sounded like, but Taylor says it was "never really about being scary." "We were all kind of nuts," he explains.
Pseudo is often pronounced "sue-do"
Pretty sure that's just how so say it
no that's just how it's pronounced lol
Spit It Out has to be the next one! It's sooo good! ❤
Don't feel bad bro. There are many of their songs that I wind up having to sit with to get a grasp of. For me, it's part of the joy of music.
Slipknot are one of the greatest bands ever existed. They have represented so much of the rock/metal world era. Close to retiring. When these guys go and rammstein all you have left is 3 people on a stage the size of newyork state... lost... enjoy them whilst they are still around!!
Not evil, provocative, but not evil. You will know "evil" metal when you hear it
If you want more heavy music with a similar message
Parkway drive - crushed
An Australian band, they have head lined wacken (biggest metal festive) and have some killer live performances from that show with amazing crowd interaction
More Slipknot - YES!
You might not have known all the words but you're working through it and thats what it's all about brother. Your take on the song and lyrics are a great show of how you're processing it AND showing it the respect it deserves. Keep up the great work and I hope you keep growing. Both your channel and musicaly.
it's awesome to see someone starting to get what you already feel towards your favorite band
Waitttttttttttttttttting and loving. Your energy is worth it.
Don't mind the haters, let them complain. I like that you talk about the music, it's nice to see you looking up the lyrics and get into it. I even learn a few things about the band with your research lol
I can't remember the video but there's one where the band is out of focus and not in masks but the masks are hanging around on the instruments or mic stands but in focus. It was pretty awesome.
The song is "Before I Forget" and it is one of my favorites 💜
Its a 9 point star each point represents a member of the band.
Respect to you for getting to the bottom of the lyrics his poetry is amazing and deep and I hope that you spend the time and hopefully share your journey through appreciating Slipknot's music. It took a few listens to really get what the song was about and even longer for me to appreciate the musical side and how it fuels their music with this unparalleled energy
There is actually a song where they take the masks off in the whole video id like to hear your thoughts on that its nice to get a "outsiders" view on the genre and lyric meaning its refreshing from the usual "its just screaming and noise" we always get you need to check out "before i forget" by slipknot if you are curious about the maskless video its a banger (psuedo pronounced "Sue-dough" usually means fake or not real like "Pseudoscience" its a prefix)
Cory Taylor has performed with Slipknot, Stone Sour and Solo all are different styles/sounds. He has also worked with several other acts, including Junk Beer Kidnap Band, Korn, Disturbed, Apocalyptica, Code Orange, Anthrax, Steel Panther, Tonight Alive, Falling in Reverse, Soulfly, Damageplan, Tech N9ne, and the Clay People.
Avatar too
Slipknot & Limp Bizkit, due to their use of turntablists in the bands, introduced me to metal music. I had heard ish like Nirvana & other joints in the 90s but I grew up on hip hop, freestyle music (EDM dance ish), Miami bass & turntablism. DJs cutting up & battling, real spinners in that element. #RIP Roc Raida! But yeah the DJ element brought me in & then I developed the love for the aggressive attitude metal had. Reminds me of the 80s & 90s golden era of rap where everything was pretty much a middle finger to the establishment.
My man, you need to hear the bars in "Spit it Out". The official video will be easier to hear the lyrics you'll read but, the live from Download Festival 2009, the crowd will blow your mind.
Psychosocial: adj. describing the intersection and interaction of social, cultural, and environmental influences on the mind and behavior
It's a 9 POINT STAR for 9 members of the band
Unsainted by Slipknot!!❤
Especially as a Christian lol
They are not evil, they heal me time and time again. I'm sure they help many people heal
Their concerts are amazing been to two of them. Also saw just Corey Taylor performing songs that influenced him when he was young. You would be mind blown the songs he played. Not what you would expect anything from Prince to The Clash.
My favourite Slipknot song is "Wait and bleed".
Nero Forte by Slipknot! 🤘
People = 💩 should be a next reaction. Wild😭 but I’m definitely here for the slipknot journey!!
Thank you for doing this one. They're incredible. I'm probably biased though because I'm from where they're from and am a rock fan. If you enjoy Corey's voice, definitely check out Snuff live acoustic version. You might need tissues. His other band is Stone Sour and they are much more melodic. Stone Sour - Inhale is probably my favorite ❤
2nd best metal lyricist behind Randy Blythe of "Lamb of God"
Seriously brother, I appreciate your level of commitment and communication. Taking the time to understand what is being said is what this world needs more of.
The melting star is the circle of fifths of the guitar fretboard
Dude, I appreciate you taking the time to dig deeper into the songs themselves, actually trying to get an understanding. Metal is so much deeper than the breakdowns. The only complaint I would have, would be your timing on the pauses, but that's not your fault because these are first listens. I enjoy the channel and dig your perspective on some of this
Watched till the end, respect brother! Most reactors don’t take the time to digest, they just watch and move on to make more content, nice reaction!
They bring such raw and powerful energy that’s wat I love about slipknot
Black P is back never wack never slip up slipknot fire track reaction gettin traction
Thx bro for the metal reactions
Bruh they are not evil they just showing you some art😂
Their mask represents they inner self that they bring out when they perform
I like that you go the extra mile and try to analyze the details within the lyrics. Greetings from Germany!
This song gets me into Slipknot
lol same searching the band this song is the first on the line
They are a movement and always involved the audience live. Spit it out live
Corey Taylor is also the lead singer of stoned sour. The mask that tecnine has was made by the same person that does all slipknot's masks.
The way I heard it was that before they had masks, one day they all went to practice and one of the percussionists showes up wearing a clown mask.. wouldn't take it off, as a matter of fact, he starts jamming with it, and they all love it! They were cracking up at the clown smiling while jamming his ass off and they all had a great laugh about it.. next practice, clown mask again.. and again and again until they all started doing it. They even had a discussion as a band about wearing the masks on stage, wether it was gimmicky or if it was organic to them.
About the videos getting pulled, maybe try a blown up logo, like an old school dvd screensaver, bouncing Infront of the vid, that way we know were it's at and you don't get copyrighted.
You should do "Manifest" by Sepultura!!
Don't worry about the people who get mad with your sharing. You are one of the most honest reactors I've seen lately and I totally appreciate the time you take to break open the depth of this genre of music. Keep it up!
I love this for you sir. We've been here.... waiting for you come home. We are the beginning of music. Keep going sir. The hole gets deeper.
Great work with the reaction. Hope you do more. I enjoy that you think about it and do a great reaction.
love that you're diving into all music.
Corey Taylor is an amazing artist, and the musicians if Slipknot are a brotherhood. me and my buddies often used SK as our groups unoffical theme music when we were in highschool. they're brother hood spoke to us, and we wanted to emulate that with our group of misfits. Keep diving into metal, you'll find a lot of interesting poetry and lyricism
Taylor is a fan of a lot of music, rap included. Their earlier stuff had a lot of elements from that genre in it.
Transparent and honest is what I think you were going for ❤
Dead Memories is a must
My favourite song
We are here for it, go down the rabbit hole boy! :D
You should absolutely react to their very first "hit" which was Wait & Bleed. I lose my shit like a fangirl every time my old ass hears it :D
You need to hear I Prevail. Bow Down, Scars, Body Bag, Bad Things, Gasoline, Hurricane. You’d love them
definitely not biased at all, but I've been patiently waiting for this one haha
There is a point in the star for every member in the band
Bro I’ve been a metal head for 30+ years and I agree metal is not a every day thing metal is a situational thing
The band chose a 9 point star to represent each member of the band. 🤗
Slipknot whole thing is that it represents the darker side in all of us. Yes it's scary, messy, violent but we need those types of artists that confront us with some harsh realities. Loom at the state of the world right now, it ain't pretty. Slipknot gives to a lot of people a way to let their frustrations out and release their anger. I've seen them twice, and it was physically and emotionally draining to watch their show but, so damn liberating! You should also check out Corey Taylor's acoustic gigs in small venues. His singing voice is amazing and very soulful.
Based Tech9 fan! 42yo rock/metal fan, was luke-warm on rap music till I heard him a couple years back, now I'm bangin' it daily! Was going thru a rough spot, mentally, at the time, dude saved my life, he my favorite rapper!
Chris Fehn is the guy with the long nose and is responsible for most of the audio for the shouted "PSYCHOSOCIAL" bits post-chorus. Chris never gets his due for his beastly growls and it makes me sad.
Joey, their drummer has always had my favorite mask. There's just something magical about Japanese kabuki masks and their mystery.
Ironically, Slipknot is like poetry. You have to break it down to understand it.
THE CLOWN STARED THE MASK THING..
you do absolute right.. great reaction
Ive never been into the rap, pop genre. But the guitar has its voice, the drums, bass, not only the singing has lyrics but the instruments of metal or rock. what they look like is just expression of who they want people to see. if they scare you then you got some issues. people fear what they dont understand and thats the beauty of it. slipknot helped me through some dark times in my life. its a connection of what ppl has been through, you may not have gone through what we have but they know the pain and suffering like we do.
Love you discovering....wish us people who can't spend $$$$ can get you suggestions somehow other than these mainstream songs that will push your boundaries farther and realize some unknowns are as talented, if not more than the commercial successes! Keep going! Great job!
I love Slipknot 🖤🔥 I have been listening to them for yeeaarss! 🤘Corey Taylor is Lyricaly amazing and he seems so genuine. You should check out Snuff Live. Great react BP 💐✌️🖤
Man, you picked some good stuff today!
And a Slipknot fan was born. Love this band.
Humungus left an impression.
Taylor is a highly loving emotional person! One of the best!
i personally enjoy when u dive into the lyrics 🤙
Love slipknot ❤❤❤❤ that's my usual music lol
I love watching old school rap fans FINALLY understand metal. (Vice versa as well). I'm a metal fan, but nu metal got me into rap a little, and now, years later, i like rap, metal, acoustic folk music, and very rarely, even country.
For me, the appeal of horror movies and "dark" stuff is because when you live in the dark, the light (good things) seem brighter so to speak
The big heads (purgatory masks, from vermillion pt1), lit on fire are meant to represent their inflated ego's being set ablaze.
The star has nine points which represent the nine members of the band. its called a Nonogram
