I think the song is less about "people reenter your life only when you're successful" and more about "people don't see the hard work you put into your success so they call you undeserving and boastful for celebrating your success". The translation you read lead you to the former because some parts of the verse were badly translated. Basically the first verse had already established the message of the whole song, which is some people will drag you down no matter what, but you just have to keep being yourself. In Filipino language, it means "inheritance" but in english it also means "supernatural force" which connects to the MANANANGGAL: a mythical creature in the Philippines that could separate its upper body to fly and hunt at night while the lower body stays on the ground. A reference to the lines: "I bet 50" (like 50/50 or half of the body) and "I'd rather half my body go missing". So yeah: MANA - an inheritance that u may or may not yet know u posses (to help push or boost in reaching ur dreams); it's like a hidden gem-- that's why the lyrics says "u might not see my grace" (or something like that). MANANANGGAL - a reminder to enjoy all the success, fame and whatever achievements (flying/soaring high) while staying humble (keeping the feet on the ground); "heaven & earth can unite" like the upper & lower body of this creature. I love that they have these kind of reminders: stay humble, be grateful, & never give up lyrics that really gives GV in almost all of their songs.

They want to cover everything and fill in each genre opportunity. "Mana" is the shortened/cut version of "Manananggal." "Manananggal" is our folklore creature here in the Philippines. It is similar to the Malaysian "Penanggalan". Both Manananggal and Penanggalan have the same root word, "tanggal" which means "to remove." Both creatures remove or detach their upper extremities to fly, while the lower extremity remains in the ground. In my own analysis, Mana is talking about their life's peers, acquaintances, neighbors or relatives, - those persons who don't deem them highly before they became popular. Those who saw them as "nothing special" in the sense that they don't even greet or talk to them. In the lyrics, it says: "Ayy, hindi ba mahiwaga? Nah, I'd rather half my body go missing, oh, yeah"I translated it as: "Ayy, now that I am in the sky, you insist that I have changed. Don't you miss me? Nah, I'd rather half my body go missing, oh, yeah" The person/s they are addressing are not proud of them, rather, they are antagonistic with them. They scorn them, they are envious of what they had attained. They say that the boy/boys has/have changed, that they are not like the simpler version of themselves anymore. That is weird since even in the times past, they do not have anything to do with them, not even a greeting or an acknowledgment. Yet, they have the belly to say that "they have changed?" The reason why somewhere in the lyrics, SB19 said: "'Di ko maintindihan ang sinasabi mo." (I do not know what you are saying." I'll continue my analysis in another posting.

Hi Alex, your rough translation to the lyrics is actually correct dispite the song using metaphoric words that only locals can relate. So just to explain a little, there are two meanings behind MANA, base on their leader, Pablo. Mana, means inheritance, the other Mana is a shortened word for Manananggal(a mythical "monster" night creature that splits their body(waist) to half. A bat-like wings grow behind them and fly at night, to prey on sleeping people, leaving their torso on ground). Generally, in the song they're saying, they'll soar high but will keep their feet on the ground(like Manananggal). Dreams can be achieved, as long as you keep believing. Don't sleep on them five. Those who questioned them ever since, were just scared to admit that they posses the grace. The grace that their group inherited(Mana) from above. And this time, not even doubters can deny it.

Mana short Manananggal. Manananggal -> The name comes from the Tagalog word tanggal, which means "to remove" or "to separate." which literally translates as "remover" or "separator." In this case, "one who separates itself." This refers to the creature's ability to sever its upper torso. This creature can separate her upper torso (waist up) and fly away, then waist down. (Remains on the ground). Pablo (the Composer) refer this to their group, as they fly reaching their dreams, they feet are steady fixed on the ground and not forgetting to come back.

Hi Alex, your rough translation to the lyrics is actually correct dispite the song using metaphoric words that only locals can relate. So just to explain a little, there are two meanings behind MANA, base on their leader, Pablo. Mana, means inheritance, the other Mana is a shortened word for Manananggal(a mythical "monster" night creature that splits their body(waist) to half. A bat-like wings grow behind them and fly at night, to prey on sleeping people, leaving their torso on ground).
Generally, in the song they're saying, they'll soar high but will keep their feet on the ground(like Manananggal). Dreams can be achieved, as long as you keep believing. Don't sleep on them five. Those who questioned them ever since, were just scared to admit that they posses the grace. The grace that their group inherited(Mana) from above. And this time, not even doubters can deny it.
Manananggal can also means Sucker or Taker. prefixing tanggal or take haha there's so much word play on a single line.

Mana short Manananggal. Manananggal -> The name comes from the Tagalog word tanggal, which means "to remove" or "to separate." which literally translates as "remover" or "separator." In this case, "one who separates itself." This refers to the creature's ability to sever its upper torso. This creature can separate her upper torso (waist up) and fly away, then waist down. (Remains on the ground). Pablo (the Composer) refer this to their group, as they fly reaching their dreams, they feet are steady fixed on the ground and not forgetting to come back.
