90% of commenters missed the point of Josh's speech and this video. If you guys are so fond of the show (and I am too,) than please look at it this way. This man has put 9 years into creating enjoyment for us all, through depression and what I suspect to be an identity crisis. I think that earns Josh Radnor sixteen minutes of my time to listen to him as a human being, rather than the persona of Ted Mosby. It's all about individual image, and unfortunately his is not himself. I don't blame people for that, it is just how the mind works. But I ask that before leaving some cheesy reference to the show in your comment, you instead look at this as Josh Radnor, the human being, talking about image and learning from it. And leave a comment of such nature.
Mosisusasu i think thats exactly what his speech was about. The contrast between the perception everybody has of you, your own view of yourself and, when you become aware of the (little) impact you have on your Environment, what you want to exude to the world. This speech was for the 10% of the viewers that actually listen and use his message to selfreflect and learn from. He knows he is not reaching all the people that know him. As he said, he is aware of the 1 person that might be affected good or bad by his actions. I agree, that he deserves 16 minutes of our time and focus to actually listen, but most of the people just want to see the image they have of him and nothing more. I was fascinated to see that underneath the naive and lighthearted character of ted mosby is a intelligent, wise and somewhat sad person that is much much deeper than the image most of the world has of him!
Amazing comments guys. I totally agree. This speech made me think about my own steps. I didn't knew he was such an incredible person. Kudos to Josh for his well-thought out life experienced speech

@@coconutkenalmightylifexd5507 For sure. A great guy and liked by all as far as I know. His work ethic can't be beat and look at all the things he was doing while starring on a sitcom: Broadway, writing films, producing them, directing them and starring in them. He's great with a camera and when signing autographs at the stage door for his fans who also wanted selfies, he said to each one; "Let me have your camera and I'll do it". I respected him as an actor, but now I respect him as a person. I enjoy his point of view and agree. What we put out into the world is essentially our brand; our kindness, compassion, love, etc. is telling the world who we are and is why it should be done wholeheartedly. Happiness and peace aren't found by obtaining selfish desires. What we put out into the world will directly mirror who we become. Change your approach and you change not only the world, but who you are as a person. We aren't existing on this earth for ourselves. Psychologically, it's not possible. We're here for each other. And we should act as such. I like your brand, Josh 👍
One of the things I loved with HIMYM was the wisdom of it. That episode where Ted talks about all the little things that led him to be on the exact street corner at the exact right time to meet Stella, which led to him meeting Tracy, really shined in that regard. This talk feels kind of like that. Like something Future Ted will tell his children. Josh Radnor is an amazing actor, but there is clearly a lot more there.
I often wonder if people who get into the spotlight actually read comments on the internet about them. People can be really judgemental about others without really knowing them, and that is what sucks about the internet. Your share a really good experience here with us Josh, and if you happen to read these comments, there are people out here who care more about the person than the character, and you seem to be a really good person.
Josh, great speech! I totally agree with you: "Everything is contagious... every word, every action, every tweet, every Facebook post is a contribution to the collective. Every encounter affects us in subtle and not so subtle ways... and we can be contagiously good."
I love him. Ted was my favourite character, and I'm glad I've decided get to know Josh Radnor a little bit more by searching interwiews and stuff on the internet. He seems such a smart, kind and sweet person. This monologue is extremely good and deep, and I feel sorry for him, since that crowd didn't seem to appreciate his little jokes enough.. Although he seemed embarassed in some parts (11:42 or 12:40, poor guy, he was waiting people to laugh), he did great. Probably it's a cultural thing, since he got a standing ovation at the end. Totally deserved it.
Alessandra M | Well luckily, I don’t think he was. There’s a couple of instances where you can hear loud laughs but faintly so it’s most likely the microphone that isn’t picking up the crowd’s reactions. I think he was waiting for them to actually stop laughing before he resumed.
Such a moving speech but it honestly didn't feel like a speech. It felt much more than that. It felt that he was giving much more than words but a way of life we all have but use our time for only self gain. I'm only twenty one and he gave me some of his wisdom that I probably wouldn't have even found in a life time. I'm forever grateful.
The illusion of fame solving your issues is indeed a mighty powerful one in the world today. Certainly here in America. It has profoundly influenced me, as it seems to have served as an unconscious solution to unresolved trauma regarding self image. I always appreciate celebrities sharing their personal experience, as it helps bring more of the nuanced reality to fame. May we all be free of the illusions which ensnare our true selves, and live as we truly are.
I started watching this because it's Josh Radnor...but I kept watching because of how awesome what's being said is. It really hit home as someone who's been bullied. I've always focused on what was being said to or about me instead of my response to those bullying. Maybe the bullying is an opportunity to be the better person instead of just being beat down. This is a great perspective shift and there's so much truth and humility wrapped up here.
I have laughed, cried, learned and rethinked my life thanks to Josh, and I don't even know him in person, but I wish with all my heart to have the opportunity one day, to say a shy hello, to take a picture and share some coffee, to act together! I feel in love with HIMYM because I discovered on this dark phase of my life, and I don't regret it. I love everyone in the show, but Josh? Josh won my heart. I'll download this, so can I watch it over and over again, to remember myself that, if I make it "big", I want to be just like him.
The implication of this is overestimated. You don't learn something new with every obstacle, each encounter changes your perspective, even to the point where you may make a 360-degree turn and end where you started.
+Matt Bob I think there is an audio problem in the video. You can hear that the crowd's sound is off and not well picked up. Plus, the problem is often that there is just one myc to pick up the whole audience which makes it sound a lot less than it actually is

Josh, yes, I have spent a lot of time with you... as Ted Mosby. I'm an architectural designer, and you played an architect so convincingly well that the thought of 'seeing' you out of character risked being a disappointmnt. You see, when the economy was very bad and architects were losing jobs left and right, Ted Mosby was right there with us suffering as a stiffled creative. We felt validated; which pen will be the official pen.... They say you should never meet your heroes, but in this instance the old expression is completely wrong. Your personal story has enriched the character you portrayed in addition to opening portals to deeper insights that challenges a fresh perspective. Thank you Ink Talks and Josh Radnor.
Ive always ignored josh because he seemed boring when compared to neil patrick harris. And after this i realized he is such a humble, cool, great person. Really got me thinking about a life. He deserves a ,happy, peaceful and fullfilling life.

He is an amazing actor for he embodied the role into his persona n that is why everyone still see as Josh as Ted cuz their personality are soooo similarly to each other’s: a imperfect human trying their best to make it in the world, compassionate, charming, funny, very intelligent,

Recommendation: Do NOT read the comments until you have already watched the whole video.
Josh's message is quite impressive and strong, and if you scroll down the comments while watching you're gonna miss it and spend all 16 minutes thinking of Ted Mosby-related jokes.
(trust me, had to watch the video twice)
Aldo LM no duh... that’s like any video.
Thank you!
One of the most sensible, down-to-earth celebrities that I've come across!
Thank you for how I met your mother and most importantly, thank you for inspiring people who look up to you :)
I started the talk seeing Ted Mosby.
I finished it seeing Josh Radnor.
Great talk 🧡
Josh, I've been a fan of HIMYM since 2009 and I love both of your movies with the same level or adoration as the show.
Josh Radnor, I wish you all the best.
Look at the like-dislike ratio. Never seen something like that with 500K views. Just WOW!! Josh with his life lesson on-screen and off-screen is just so enlightening! LOved it!!
I liked Ted Mosby but now i like Josh Radnor. his words left me breathless
I kinda feel bad for him cuz i have heard so many people hate him and the character, hes such a genuine guy it seems idk why so much hate but i love this little thing he did. plus his character is truly a great icon for the show ! Great work TED
He is an amazing actor for he embodied the role into his persona n that is why everyone still see as Josh as Ted cuz their personality are soooo similarly to each other’s: a imperfect human trying their best to make it in the world, compassionate, charming, funny, very intelligent,
basically THE perspective that I have. But I was not able to put everything in my mind in words. His talk is hundred percent correct that all humanity should follow. Do no harm each other. Just learn things to do in a better way and in kindness. Thank you Josh. Seriously, in my perfect utopic world, everybody has the thought and mindset that you have. Thank you for being in this way.
This was surprisingly heartwarming and educational!
He is so intelligent, it is such a joy to listen to his speech. I have been a huge fan of HIMYM for many years and to watch some interviews of the actors from this show especially with such a great positive wise message fullfils my heart.
he's so eloquent

Teddy boy, moved me to tears once again.
A TEDx talk by an exTED. also, i now get why his kids just sat there listening to him for 9 years. NOBODY can't help but listen to this amazingness.
5 years later and this advice is more relevant than it's ever been.
This guy is great. He should be the star in a show in which he gives a very detailed story to his kids about all the women that he got together with.
Josh , you are awesome , and im proud to be your fan ❤
I absolutely loved his speech.
Wow, I really love his personality and morals! He is so well spoken and intelligent, I'm glad I found him through HIMYM
