Youre right doesn't take much... I go out on a little 16 foot aluminum console on the open ocean West Coast. It doesn't take much to catch a salmon. Guys go out on their kayaks and even little trout style pontoon inflatable boats on the salt as well. Nice fish.
Thanks so much for all the detail on your set up and where you purchase the equipment. This is so helpful because I am just now starting to get my fishing set up for the Great Lakes! Keep up the great work and love the videos!
I know I live in Canada in Ontario across the pond when I was a kid they used to be kings coho steelhead like crazy in this lake and Erie now it’s hard to find salmon in this lake. They’re here and you got a fish for them like you guys do in Michigan, there’s not a whole lot anymore. Remember the rivers I remember fishing out my dad‘s boat off the bow to Cleos in the river mouth call every cast. I remember trolling with my dad, King Sam and Cole lake trout all that stuff is almost extinct. It’s gotten bad. We had one great yearlast year the steelhead were phenomenal here again. Your boat looked like a battlefield by the time you got in the scales no more.
Your video reminds of the record sturgeon that was caught in the Detroit River in the spring of 21....240 pounds, almost 7 ft. long and estimated to be 100 years old .looks like the lakes are in good shape
Cody, how do you play a king on a board? Lost a good one who ripped my board under, it felt impossible to get the board back on top with so much drag? It eventually ran into my rigger FF and popped off.
So what I don’t get is everybody complains that the numbers are depleting in Lake Erie Lake Huron Lake Ontario lake superior and lake Michigan, but yet everybody goes right to the limit and keeps everything I think if you get a couple fish eats for the day, especially salmon because they’re big fish that’s more than enough or if you know, get 45 walleye You don’t need to keep everybody’s limit just so everybody can have a little bit. I’m saying that no disrespect to your friends or anybody else and just that’s my opinion. That’s the way we brought up that way brought my kids up you know you wanna go out and get a walleye dinner go get a walleye in it but that’s all you need. You want more go back and get more, it’s crazy. The amount of fish were putting in and then there’s nothing left, but finally starting to see some of the wild that are breeding on their own, which is good to see. I think everybody that gets king salmon or steelhead or lake trout that are all wild their fins aren’t clipped put them back. That’s what we want to see. We want him to flourish on their own. We don’t want to have to raise them. We want them to do their own thing eat what they naturally eat as muchas possible let the wild go back. It’s all about Fish for tomorrow too right they said no disrespect. It’s just another fisherman just opinion.p
Kings only live for 4 years, so does it matter? We have regulations set by the dnr to preserve the fish. If people follow the rules, ya really can't complain.
Like I said that size of fish there you just got that four year-old that’s even just one of those is more than enough. That’s about four meals for somebody if not more I understand your business bro and I get it. I got friends that do it but they all put back because if we don’t look after they’ll be nothing left and the sport that we love to do as part of the outdoors fishing and hunting if we don’t start respecting it, we’re not gonna have it.

Releasing those big 4 year old salmon will likely result in fatality of the fish. Also, a salmons life is only 4 years. This fish, if returned will head to the tributaries in Fall to spawn and die. Also, Lake Michigan is a put and take fishery. Because of water temperatures throughout the lake, very little natural reproduction takes place. So what the DNR does is stock the lake with different species, (coho, chinook, trout, etc). But I understand your concern, and I will tell you we enjoy lots of Great Lakes salmon on the smoker, grill, and canned. :)

Great video!! What brand of flasher do you like running? Looked like your fish were "naturals" as they had their adipose fins.
Pro-king and salmon candy have been great for me!
Cody, how do you play a king on a board? Lost a good one who ripped my board under, it felt impossible to get the board back on top with so much drag? It eventually ran into my rigger FF and popped off.
Best thing to do is get some board releases so you don’t have to fight the board! Sam’s Pro is a good one!
God damn you are a beast!
Cody are you using livescope for salmon trolling?
😏😏 yes
Can catch them in a walleye boat but the livewell might not be big enough! Good video
Right!
We don't use the live well. We got a big cooler with ice in the front of the boat.
Awesome video Cody! Great to see your riggers producing! How long of a lead behind the ball are you running? Assuming no SWR, correct?
I run around 50 ft out behind the ball.
@@CodyS Makes sense. Thanks!
A great day of fishing....do you ever use deep diver plugs or broken back rapalas on you down riggers?
Sometimes JPlugs
I heard the line guides on the salis 5000 are too small for copper setups. How are you making it work?
Just pulled it out.
What braid diver rods do you run and dispys do you run
30lb braid
@@CodyS what about the rod

Nice
How tight do you set the drags before a bite?
Just tight enough that the drag won’t pull out while trolling.

Do you have better luck at night or early? We tried night one and we only got one
