    About the statement of "What would Stephen King know about being a teenage girl.." King had those thoughts when writing Carrie the book and had actual thrown out the idea, it wasn't until his wife literal took the story out of the trash and helped fill in some blanks about being a teenage girl that he decided to continue writing.

    actually 1 good thing the crappy 2013 remake got right is the fact that she's in control and she is vengeful and that she is taking the Glee in exacting her revenge she does in the books she is a terror but I think the scariest thing about the book is you kind of root for her to Kill Them All and that's the scariest part

    I admit, I actually prefer the prom massacre in the 2013 remake over the others. I feel a twisted satisfaction watching assholes get their comeuppance in violent, over the top fashion and it might have something to do with the fact that I was bullied in school, so seeing Carrie furiously kill the students, instead of doing it in a trance, was kind of rewarding in a weird way.
    Obviously I don't think what Carrie did is right, nor do I find her as sympathetic once the killing starts. It's still a satsifying spectacle to me, so I personally find it difficult to not like it more than the others, but I understand why the original is considered to be more effective.

    She's snapped! As someone who has experienced bullying first hand, I can understand where she's coming from. Somewhat. She's had enough and the death of the first person who was actually kind to her was probably her breaking point. I may be seen as a sadistic bitch for saying this but I was rooting for her during that prom scene.

    • @robertyeah2259
      @robertyeah2259 9 лет назад +10

      That is kind of sadistic. I mean, the whole point is to know that what Carrie is doing was wrong and awful, but you know why she's doing and understands her.
      At least, that was the point in the original, the new one seems to want you to support someone who is really no different than bullied kids who shoot up schools.

    I know this is late, but Chloe was bullied at school, and on set. She was told she was too big/too heavy by a male costar on set and it made her cry. I think it was along the lines of “I would never date you in real life because you’re too big (in size) for me.” She was 15, I think. Anyone can be bullied for any minor or petty reason.
    I am going to post this twice. Sorry to bother. But yeah, I agree that she is really pretty. I do love her horror credentials so I don’t agree that she was miscast. It’s also good to do a lot of different things as an actor. You never want to get pigeon holed into only one type of genre. Like Jim Carrey. He’s a great actor, and I really loved him in The Number 23.

      Andy, you’re amazing and a lot of fun to watch. While this movie was good, I still agree about it getting the boot. Wasted potential and I would also really want to see the complete movie with everything tossed back in. Maybe that could be “unbootable” since enough would be hopefully be different and bring more to the table.

    Does anyone act like a real person in this movie? I've been a teenage girl. I have sisters. I went to a girls' high school. That is not how teenage girls would react. Some might think she's a freak and giggle, sure, but she thought she was dying. Mostly they wouldn't know what to do. I know that's not very dramatic but you can work with it. Everyone would find out, for one. People wouldn't know how to act around her. Between that and finding out that everyone else knows things she doesn't, she'd feel isolated. The boys would be insufferable. All you need is a few kids who are particularly cruel, some of whom are going along with it. Not everyone.

    • @robertyeah2259
      @robertyeah2259 7 лет назад +2

      Stephen King is no perfect writer. I love the guy's work and he creates incredible stories but he writes a lot of silly shit. Many things that have been changed in the adaptations that people tend to love, were changed to generally benefit the story.
      The original Carrie changed a lot, but just, for example, the mother's death. In the book, Carrie stops her heart, and in the 1976 film, Carrie crucifies her with knives.
      1) The film's version adds the religious symbolism to her mother's death, fitting because of her character and Carrie's upbringing.
      2) The death also has personal symbolism to Carrie, because Carrie spent a good amount of her childhood locked in a closet with a scary ass St. Sebastien statue by her mother. The image of that statue is one Carrie knows all too well comes along with punishment, so when she murders her mother in self-defense, that image is reflected in Carrie's actions. Carrie killed her mother using the very thing her mother had been using to break her down for 17 years.
      The death wasn't changed for shits and giggles, the death was changed because it's better that way. It's better in the movie than it is in the book.
      The original also plays Carrie's prom rampage completely straight, having Carrie stare menacingly and she manipulates her surroundings. This was likely done because someone noticed that Carrie moving her arms around like she's playing an orchestra is some silly looking shit. This is only verified by the remake because they actually tried it. Even the 2002 version, which sticks incredibly close to the book in many significant ways, removed Carrie's orchestral movements because it looks better on film.
      Sticking close to the source material is always commendable, but shit has to and will change in adaptation, and things that are effective in books might not be effective in movies. Anyone who's talented and adapting a story will recognize when things have to change in order to get the best possible result. Sticking to things from the book just because it's from the book, and not because it benefits the story, is treating the book as definitive when books are just as flawed as any movie.
      Sorry for the rambling, I just love talking about storytelling.

      @@robertyeah2259 i don't know, Carrie in the book , musical and this version waving their hands , directing the object to kill someone is scarier to me. Though Sissy's eyes in the first adapation is scary

  • @KittyxGrimm
    @KittyxGrimm 9 лет назад +4

    I actually liked the fact that Carrie looked more angry than stoic in the prom scene. As much as I like Sissy in the original, her zombie-like movements in the prom scene always gave me the impression that they were trying to make Carrie out to be this sort of monster and I never liked that. Carrie isn't a monster, she's just an abused girl who was pushed too far and that, to me, is even scarier because anyone can be pushed too far. That was the message of the book and I think that's what they were trying to do with the reboot, but I'll admit that they really watered the message down with the ending.
    It's just a shame they couldn't retell the story like they intended to because with social media being what it is nowadays, they could have used that to translate the book's method of storytelling really well. Alas, life has other plans.

    • @robertyeah2259
      @robertyeah2259 9 лет назад +5

      Really, making her totally in control of her powers and seeming to enjoy her rampage seems more monstrous to me.
      I always saw the 1976 movie as a way of showing that she is not a monster, because the telekinesis completely took over her. It was a defense mechanism that went out of control.
      That's why I didn't like that the new had her practice and gain control of her powers, it makes her rampage more monstrous and Carrie more unlikable.

    • @KittyxGrimm
      @KittyxGrimm 9 лет назад +8

      I can kind of see where you're coming from, but I see it a little differently.
      On the one hand, since the story *is* about what happens when someone is pushed too far, I can see how that can *actually* turn someone into a monster.
      On the other hand, I never saw Carrie as particularly monstrous in the reboot's prom scene; I saw her as someone who was *angry.* I remember feeling angry when I was being bullied in high school and while I was never angry enough to want to kill my classmates in cold blood, there have been kids out there who have. I see Carrie as one of those kids and that, to me, is what makes the story so horrifying.
      That's just my interpretation of it, anyway.

    Carrie 2013 is like an anti-remake: It more or less hits the same beats as the original, but what it actually does with the material in terms of context is a complete 180. The original is about the loss of innocence and control, the remake is about taking control and standing up for oneself. In the original, Margaret seems to despise Carrie, whereas the remake literally opens with her seeing her child for the miracle that she is. The abuse doesn't come from negligence, but from a severe need to keep Carrie close. Hell, they're not even in the same genre. The original is a supernatural horror, while the remake is a supernatural revenge drama.

    Great review... I do love the original very much.. its interesting to watch a remake of such a classic because you want to see what new stuff they will do and what they get right... Chloe is too pretty and cool to be Carrie, it was hard for her to pull off that homeliness that I think is needed. Her character arch happened too fast before you knew it she was trying to be cool and such. not like in the original where she was painfully shy the whole movie with that slight moment at the prom where she's just starting to feel like maybe she is going to be ok then SPLOOOSH. Its just so perfect.

    I love your videos, man! In the stage musical (YES, there was a 1988 Broadway musical, that closed after one performance & a 2012 revival off-broadway musical that fared a little better!) Carrie also made things whimsically float around her bedroom that the 2013 remake borrowed!

    Great video and great review! I'm not a big fan of the 2013 remake either. I hope the extended cut can change my opinion. But still, Carrie 1976 will always be my favorite movie adaptation.

      halloweenfriday Agreed. Although I don't think movie studios really pay attention or care about fan petitions. So who knows if we'll ever see the uncut version.

    Man, I watched the 2002 version on TV when it was brand new--TWENTY YEARS AGO!!
    Just think, a remake of 'The Rage' as a sequel to this one would actually really work, especially if they copy it pretty much beat for beat but just update the setting from the late 90s to now...not that I WANT that, but it would be weird if they thought of it.

    I watched this remake last night. I thought it was pretty good. The acting is more then descent and the big prom scene is brutal, I do wish she hadnt moved her arms around and just kept still like in the original. All in all I gave it a 7/10

      dizzle1119 I spoke to Doug and Rob Walker at C2E2 in Chicago about what they look for in Channel Awesome producers and they said currently nothing because the site is a little overcrowded at the moment or something. I messaged Rob Walker a couple days later and he watched a chunk of my Fright Night review and told me to submit my series the next time they do a talent search (probably in a year or two). He said that wasn't a guarantee that I'd get in, but he thought it was one of the better shows he's seen. So who knows, maybe one day. My main goal is trying to get more fans of the show.

      StitchedTogetherPics Dude, Boots To Reboots is a given the next time they need contributors. I'm sure you'd have to implement "regular" movies and/or horror movies into the equation eventually...because you'll run out of reboots/remakes/re-imaginings at some point around 2037. :P

    • @StitchedTogetherPictures
      @StitchedTogetherPictures  9 лет назад

      dizzle1119 Thanks! There's definitely enough remakes to keep me going for a long time, but I've been thinking about reviewing more than remakes. Horror/Sci-fi being my favorite.

    • @Khenfu_Cake

      I find many people don't seem to realize butchers (well, the ones who aren't following religions which prohibit the consumption of blood like Judaism and Islam) sell blood too and I assume fiction writers are among those people. I even recall reading a story once where a character had to find "shady butchers" who sold blood. Guess most butchers are shady then 😄

      TheRat3dRGAM3R Working on the script for A Nightmare on Elm Street right now. I want to put a lot of work into it, so it may take longer, but will hopefully be uploaded later in June.
