Happy Monday everyone! For those of you interested in the Sport or Limited trim of the Crosstrek, we’ll be driving it in early May, stay tuned for a video on the 2.5L engine in a few months! Hope you all have a great week! 😊
Thank you. One quick question. Who supplies Subarus CVTs for the cross trek and legacy? Is it JASCO for all their models? I own a 2018 limited legacy and the shifting has been very smooth though I was surprised the trans fluid had turned dark at 60k miles and had to replace it considering it's a closed system and lifetime fluid.
I'm impressed with the updates for the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek but I'm disappointed with the horsepower and acceleration. Only 152 hp for a 3300 pound crossover? Seriously Subaru? A 2023 base Corolla LE sedan has 169 hp and only weighs 3000 pounds! Corolla may have the punier horn but I'll choose the faster Corolla any day!
My husband and I just bought one this week in the offshore metallic color...we love it! After being Jeep people for years we were ready for Subaru...love how it drives and looks!
I have seen 3 residential properties in my neighborhood block that have both a Jeep and a Subaru or Jeeps and Subarus together parked in their driveway. Being an owner of both is cool.
It's refreshing and reassuring to see a review that is not overly critical of the 2.0L engine. I just purchased a 2024 Crosstrek Premium and have yet to drive it on any highway to assess its engine power, but I knew going in it wasn't a beast in the performance department. For the vast majority of my driving I'm confident the 2.0L will do just fine. Thanks for a great, comprehensive review!
The Crosstrek is just perfect in every aspect an average or even more adventurous buyers would want or need. And given the more affordable pricing it's just a formula for the win. 👍👍👍👍

I wish the whole lineup was made in Japan, or at least I wish the higher trims were made in Japan. For such a large vehicle, the 2.5L really should be the standard engine and we really need a turbo option and a strong hybrid option. With the Crosstrek being Subaru's best selling car, I don't think these things are too much to ask for. Oh and for the love of God bring back physical climate controls Subaru.

It's hard seeing ppl complain about mediocre cars being mediocre, while others scream we have an affordability and availability crisis.
This is a nice looking little SUV. Subaru has had no problem selling the 2.0 so it makes sense for them to keep it. Yes it is a dog from 0-60 but in most real-world driving it feels adequate.
Subaru has no problem selling it because Americans are obsessed with crossovers. Subaru could make a crossover out of human feces and Americans will be lining up to buy one lol! It's not because the Crosstrek is special though the standard symmetrical AWD is definitely attracts them.
I bought a 2022 WRX limited 7 months ago, and the dash layout looks identical other than a few things. The center console has so much wasted space! the armrest storage could've been bigger if the parking brake was moved closer to the dash or they couldve used a nicer plastic than what they chose... I also dont care for the thick C cladding on the front bumper. If that C shape was thinner like the way it looks on the outback, i'd be ok with that. I too am surprised and disappointed they didnt put the FA24 in the crosstrek yet.. and the turbo, people have been asking for for YEARS. Other than those nitpicks, a solid refresh.

We just recently purchased a 2023 Limited Crosstrek for a family road trip/camping car and I’m very impressed with it! I agree that I wish it came in a turbo but for what we bought it for it’s a great car for the price.
I just leased a ‘23 Crosstrek Sport last October to replace my beloved CX30 which was totaled😢. My 1st ever Subaru. And I have to say that it really impressed me during the test drive and continues to do so the longer I own it. I do have some small niggles with it (halogen headlamps, manual seats) but overall it’s just a really poised and capable vehicle. It’s just so easy to drive and get around in. Attractive all around and peppier than you think with the 2.5L. Good car and it looks like the ‘24 just builds on that.
@@JG90984 I kinda do. Yeah. Which is surprising to me because I’ve owned 3 Mazdas over a decade and never even considered a Subaru. Shame that Subaru & most other automakers still aren't going with a combo port & direct injection engine design, which offer preventative & operating/performance advantages over pure direct injection alone. Dealing with all the carbon buildup & professional sludge removal services at regular intervals will be a headache, since an engine requires at least some port injection for the fuel cleaning additives in the top tier gasoline brands to hit everything it needs to in order keep an engine fully free of carbon sludge accumulation.
Just drove limited, highest outfittied model, no HUD, no camera on turns to see cyclists, no heated steering, no parking assist, lots and lots of steering wheel buttons. No vents in back (under seat sort of), does have voice commands at least for a/c. If you put in sport mode it has less lag. You can just start using the manual shifters without moving into that mode.
I wish the outback would adopt the same center gearshift cupholder storage area that this has. That was my one dislike about my 2020 outback was the way the gearshift monopolized all the space there was hardly any storage space compared to my partners 2018 outback and the cupholders just got in the way. At 6 foot 7some of those tall folk need a little extra legroom or need room. It’s obviously much better in the ascent that I now own but if we ever got an outback again, that would be a major change that we would like to see is improvement in the center stack. Great review! Love the color!
Rob is so graceful in this video. J/k. 😅 I don't think many Subaru owners are going to tackle this type of off-road conditions. Maybe a forest service road or a beach. Thinking that the new generation Impreza RS might actually be a better choice for some buyers
I have driven both the Crosstrek and the Impreza, and aside from similar looks they are nothing alike. I would never buy the Impreza but I am enjoying my second Crosstrek.
@@economiccrisis9267 They look alike and that's where it ends, I did a test drive of an Impreza and I didn't like it at all, I had a 2016 Crsstrek and now a 2021, and both were comfortable and enjoyable to drive They need more power and finally they offer a bigger engine, I wanted to like the Impreza but I couldn't.
Unfortunately Startex isn’t going to be available on the Crosstrek sport anymore. The only trim that will be offered with leather is the limited. I believe subaru may be working on a wilderness trim. Which they will be reserving the Startex for.
@Rodney Decormier I have a 21 xt Touring, but it gets beat up on my local dirt township roads. Still can't get the OEM skid plates last I looked. The aftermarket stuff it too heavy. But i have been looking at replacing my 14 OB for local stuff.
My pet peeve is the mix of halogen and led lighting in the headlights / turn signals / brakes. It looks so cheesy and incoherent. Would it really cost that much to do full led? I have a 2023 Outdoor (Canadian market) with the 2.5. To get a similarly equipped 2024 model with the same engine now costs nearly $4,000 more than I paid. Not worth it for the marginal improvements and silly iPad screen imo.
I would be interested in this vehicle with the 2.5L. For the price, it is very good.....considering the HRV, much slower and worse MPG, isn't far off on the price [for the Sport].
Truth is, both the 2023 Honda HRV and the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek 2.0 are underpowered and overpriced. When a base 2023 Corolla LE sedan can easily defeat you in a race, you know you're slow lol. I would much rather buy the 2023 Corolla LE sedan over either the HRV or Crosstrek. I don't need AWD or ground clearance.
@@giovanninegron4992 The issue isn't racing, the issue is having sufficient acceleration to get on the highway and pass other drivers. 2023 Crosstrek has a 0-60 of over 10 seconds when there's just a thin driver and thin front passenger. Can you imagine how slow it will be with an entire family and all their cargo? 13-14 seconds would be my guess.
@@DRayL_ You realize the 2023 Crosstrek with the 2.5 liter engine is only on the highest 2 trims that cost over 30k right? Why spend over 30k on a Crosstrek when you can buy a RAV4 AWD, Rogue AWD, Mazda CX-5 AWD etc.?
I think this version of the Subaru Crosstrek is absolutely amazing I mean it's definitely recognized as a Subaru Crosstrek but you can see that there's something different it looks more masculine it looks a little bit more aerodynamic you can see the front part of the vehicle pushing forward like it wants to cut through the air I think they have done a brilliant job
This proves you do not need heavy noisy truck tires on a sub-compact hatchback car to go offroaden For the capability of what it is A 152 hp with a CVT lifted sub-compact hatchback car For the price of a Wilderness, you can get a Jeep Wrangler Sport with a V6 manual with a full size spare, if you want to go offroaden
I am not liking the climate controls on the touch screen, seems like a step down in safety, with actual knobs you don't have to look away from the road, just feel for them, with this setup you are trying to touch a spot on a very busy screen full of controls. I have a hard enough time on my 2018 premium just trying to push the pause control on the entertainment system consistantly.
Barely anyone buys the 2.0L its downright anemic engine.....even the 2.5L these days is barely making enough power, its why everyone switched to turbos. Even on the outback that i see on the streets, everyone has the XT turbo 2.4L barely anyone buys the 2.5L outback.
@@441meatloaf They haven't removed that engine. This test car has it. Premium makes up 50% of sales of CrossTreks in USA. That turbo engine in the Outback would be more peppy for sure. It just seems rather a large jump price wise. Should be standard or say a $1,000 option on the Premium and Limited -- not the huge jump in price.
2021 Crosstrek Limited owner for about 15 months now...there's plenty of reasons why this model is so popular. Rugged, durable, capable, and comfy. I live in an area that sees a decent amount of winter weather and had absolutely zero issues navigating through ice and snow this past winter. Limited trim is very comfortable inside and it really feels like a quality interior. Zero mechanical issues so far. My only gripe is that I wish the engine was a bit punchier. I can pass people on the highway just fine, but it would be nice to have a little more power behind it all. The 2024 model looks like it'll be another solid vehicle from Subaru...if they'd bump up the horsepower and torque at or above 200 for each, I'd upgrade to a 2024 in a heartbeat! Can't say I'm a fan of that massive infotainment screen though...my Limited has plenty of screen space with nice physical knobs and buttons for things that don't need to be digitally controlled.
Lack of power.....try driving the 2.5L up mountain hills then you realize how horrendous the engine is without turbo....it groans and moans very loud including the cvt.....In the summer the engine gets heat soak with the CVT and loses more pwoer.
One aspect I never hear in any review from anyone is the quality of the sound system. You mentioned it but I'd like to know more about the quaility. I know that the Harmon Kardon system will be an improvement, but by how much? Love the channel btw.
Great review. I’ve been sifting through reviews on so many other vehicles trying to narrow my choice down. I’ve also considered the Ford Bronco Sport, Hyundai Santa Fe and Santa Cruz, and the Ford Maverick. I want something compact but off-road capable with AWD. I really like the overall package of the Subaru Crosstrek, but really wish you could get it with a traditional torque converter. I’m not a big fan of CVT’s. Also wish there was a trim level that offered the turbo flat 4 from the WRX.
Mate, stop complaining haha...CVT mimics gears when you floor it, so it has nothing to do the "CVT" here. If it's loud, is because is an entry level car. Could have a DCT transmission and you will get same noises.
I wish. The 2023 Crosstrek XV is £35,290 plus paint in the U.K. I wish the 2024 Crosstrek were to be affordable here in the U.K. (or I’ll have to stay with my faster, more powerful and 50mpg Camry).
Where did they hide the hill holder? and is it on by default? I hate my sister's new 2023 Outback, where she has to turn hill holder on every time she starts the car.
[low roof cause ppl seem to use the roof rack a lot]... how much faffing around the margins are car makers going to do before they end up bringing back wagons... I found the imprezza a lil small for my tastes, but evidently a boat load of other ppl love these things. in spirit, its basically a stubby budget A4 allroad/V60 Cross country. just commit to the bit, lengthen it a little, and bam, we have a mainstream wagon on the market once again. Subaru foreshadowed the death of the wagon, when they biggified the outback into a crossover back in 08. it'd be interesting if they were the company to revive it...
Since Subaru dropped the manual, I can't help but think a Corolla Fielder with AWD would be a better option for many people. If only Toyota could be bothered to build it. 😁
"many". Statement really depends on your definition of "many". If more people wanted the manual they would have never dropped it. This is also coming from someone that would love to be able to get the new one in a manual but its just the unfortunate truth.
You mentioned a 2.4 Turbo, I think that would be overkill for this smaller chassis so why not a 1.8 litre Turbo. It would not need lots of hp but torque just over 210 lb ft would work perfectly I’d think!
A coworker of mine has a 2018 Crosstrek Premiun. I drove it a while back and was surprised with its driving around town. On the highway it's far from quick but for the average driver it's not bad at all. Obviously the 2.5 would be way better, but the 2.0 is not near as bad as I was anticipating.
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH Not in the base model Crosstrek, no doubt. But 6.5 is a respectable number and I got that easily with my old 2016 Fozzie XT. Of course, even the Prius can manage 7 seconds these days LOL
@@lucasokeefe7935 Most Subaru Crosstrek trims come with the 2 liter engine. Only the top 2 trims come with the 2.5 liter engine and those top 2 trims will cost you over 30k. If you're spending over 30k, you can buy a better car than a Crosstrek.
If they put the 2.4 Turbo in it...I will look at it. But I don't know that I could ever go back to the 2.5l. Oh, and yea, Subaru, people didn't buy the MT with their models as...last time I looked, the MT was only offered with base trims. Best Subie I ever had was my 2011 Impreza Outback Sport. 2.5i, 5spd manual, sunroof, Nav, Seat Heaters. It was the best!!!
Really like the car. I was going to flat tow behind an Rv. For 2024, Subaru doesn't have a standard transmission, so you have to tow it on a trailer. Will try looking for a used crosstrek with Manual shift.
Molto bella❤ io possiedo la xv con il 2.0 turbo diesel che ha 147 hp e 350 nm torque ma per le strade strette della Sardinia la panda 4x4 1.3 multijet diesel va molto meglio
Safety issues. In the shop for working under the hood or the FD if you ever have a car fire. Plus you don't have to replace parts. I have a 2014 OB had to replace them they stopped holding the hood up. Beats using a 2x4 like in see a lot of people do.
@@Moistnmeaty90 I live in Arkansas and travel to Texas very frequently and see plenty of Subarus everyday, all the time lol. Mostly crosstreks and Outback’s, foresters are a close third.
I got a 2019 premium and we buy these cars for everything besides speed. Lol. It's slower than molllases but it works. Everything else though, we take it offroad, camping, fishing, family trips. It's perfect for a family of 3 or 4.
This is a tired old argument. Car manufacturers are in the business of building what makes them a profit. If people were buying manuals manufacturers would build them. The take rate is usually less than 5% across the board these days. I get it. The comments sections are flooded with save the manuals! You’d think the take rate is much higher. But unfortunately for the save the manual trolls, they aren’t buying manuals. They are trolling the comment sections from their 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis while waiting to get those senior early bird specials at the local buffets.
KIA Seltos SX AWD has Torque Vectoring/Center Lock, 1.6T with 175hp/195torque, 0-60mph under 7 seconds with the 7DCT. Has every feature on this Crosstrek minus the ground clearance and swiveling headlights. Instead it offers 63 cubic feet of cargo space, way better engine/performance, and rear air vents. Costs 30,865 fully loaded. Not sure what makes the Crosstrek similarly equipped worth 3K more.
You're spot on Ayush! This Crosstrek is dreadfully slow with a 0-60 time of over 10 seconds! Even a 2023 base Corolla LE sedan has a 0-60 time of 8 seconds! Subaru's slacking!
The CrossTrek has that same horribly designed large pad in the center of the dash as the WRX I drove two days ago - hated it so much I passed on the car on that alone.
If same Infotainment as the Outback 2023 Touring w/2,5L then it sucks. A Kia Rio as a better sound system than my 6 speaker Outback, infotainment is SLOOOOOW like molasses, procurement must have purchased the slowest processor on the market, it has been flashed twice already as it went dark for hours, when that happens you can’t control anything at all and safety features go dead. If you have a long favourite contact list then you will never see the full list on screen, CarPlay/Spotify you will never see the entire playlist, ask Siri to search for a song while driving… there’s a good chance that it will tell you that it can’t do that because you’re driving, duh! This is my 2nd Subie (1st one was a 2019 Crosstrek Sport) but the infotainment on this one is a dud and a real turn-off, otherwise they have been solid and provide an amazing driving experience in Canadian winters. I have to record the screen to prove them that the UI freezes when paired with phone either wired or wireless. If you configure a 2nd phone and both phones are in the car then it’s a fight as one step of the function of the other even if you tag one as the preferred one. Subaru should have kept physical knobs for heating and other functions. Eyesight and safety features beep for everything and nothing except for blind spot monitoring, every other car that I have rented for business or family, the car beeps when there is a car in your blind spot but not this one. If driving in daylight and go by an underpass or tunnel then the Slooooow infotainment flips to night mode but then it takes 30-60 seconds or more to flip back to daylight mode after doing under. On other cars like Kia/Hyundai/BMW/Dodge/Ford that I have rented the flip is almost instantaneous but not on this sloooooow Subie.

The Canadian Sport called Onyx is available early in Canada already. Mine is on the way, can’t wait. Great Review.

Finally! Been waiting all week for this!
I have driven both the Crosstrek and the Impreza, and aside from similar looks they are nothing alike. I would never buy the Impreza but I am enjoying my second Crosstrek.
The Crosstrek is a lifted Impreza 😃
@@economiccrisis9267 They look alike and that's where it ends, I did a test drive of an Impreza and I didn't like it at all, I had a 2016 Crsstrek and now a 2021, and both were comfortable and enjoyable to drive They need more power and finally they offer a bigger engine, I wanted to like the Impreza but I couldn't.
Unfortunately Startex isn’t going to be available on the Crosstrek sport anymore. The only trim that will be offered with leather is the limited. I believe subaru may be working on a wilderness trim. Which they will be reserving the Startex for.
Good catch. I concur.
Cool drove a 23 sport could not stand the Startex.. hope they add a power lift gate to the limited. If not it's going to be another OB.
@@Wrang15 just bout the OB touring. Need it for the dogs.

Still waiting for the Ascent Wilderness!
Hats off to the cameraman. Well done. 👍👌
Great review.
@@braetonwilson4296 Who cares about racing in the compact market?
@@giovanninegron4992 The issue isn't racing, the issue is having sufficient acceleration to get on the highway and pass other drivers. 2023 Crosstrek has a 0-60 of over 10 seconds when there's just a thin driver and thin front passenger. Can you imagine how slow it will be with an entire family and all their cargo? 13-14 seconds would be my guess.
@@braetonwilson4296 I do. That is why I'd at least go with the 2.5L in the Crosstrek.
This proves you do not need heavy noisy truck tires on a sub-compact hatchback car to go offroaden
For the capability of what it is
A 152 hp with a CVT lifted sub-compact hatchback car
For the price of a Wilderness, you can get a Jeep Wrangler Sport with a V6 manual with a full size spare, if you want to go offroaden
Subaru needs to put the 2.5 in every trim level. It doesn't cost them any more over the 2.0. They just do it to entice people to spend more.
I’m sure they have a contractual amount of 2.0’s they must build. They have to put those engines in something.
Barely anyone buys the 2.0L its downright anemic engine.....even the 2.5L these days is barely making enough power, its why everyone switched to turbos. Even on the outback that i see on the streets, everyone has the XT turbo 2.4L barely anyone buys the 2.5L outback.
@@441meatloaf That is simply not the case.
@@lorenschwiderski That is simply the case, there is a reason why subaru has removed all the 2L engines.....its anemic.
The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek looks unique and upscale to the design of this vehicle 🚗!
If you’re playing a RUclips video with CarPlay will it play on the screen?
I’m so glad I got the 2023!
Same!
Is it possible to get Wireless Apple Carplay on the 2024 Crosstrek?;
Also wish there was a trim level that offered the turbo flat 4 from the WRX.
dang those rear reflectors are huge
Just bought mine last night 🎉
They better have a good engine insulation for that CVT, but I think it worst since they remove hood blanket.
Mate, stop complaining haha...CVT mimics gears when you floor it, so it has nothing to do the "CVT" here. If it's loud, is because is an entry level car. Could have a DCT transmission and you will get same noises.
@@subazealand9158 it should not entry level when you go Limited, beside European medal has nicer quality and parts but not in US.
I love that blue!
When will the sports or limited be available? Same production as early spring?
Like the new one alot more. Looks more grown up.
I wish. The 2023 Crosstrek XV is £35,290 plus paint in the U.K. I wish the 2024 Crosstrek were to be affordable here in the U.K. (or I’ll have to stay with my faster, more powerful and 50mpg Camry).
This in the base model or the HRV in the base model with AWD?
Beautiful but where is the rear air vents? Even in 21st century!
After the cladding fades in a few years , what’s the best way to re blacken them?
Buy the new model, these cars are disposable
Am I the only one that really likes that blue? Anyone know what it is called?
I like it. He says in the beginning. Not recalling the full name but it's "Sapphire"; the offshore blue is pretty sweet too.
is a cd player available for the 2024 crosstrek ?
wish they removed the electronic parking brake and have a lever instead 😑
Great video and a great car! Imagine if it had the 2.4L turbo!!
Subaru has done a lot better with their CVTs than people give them credit for
This thing is an absolute dog.
0-60 in over 10 seconds is nothing to brag about.
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH Not in the base model Crosstrek, no doubt. But 6.5 is a respectable number and I got that easily with my old 2016 Fozzie XT. Of course, even the Prius can manage 7 seconds these days LOL

If they put the 2.4 Turbo in it...I will look at it. But I don't know that I could ever go back to the 2.5l. 10 sec. to hit 60mph is a death trap. You better plan those highway mergers very carefully
Same as a base RAV4.

Nice to point out that prop rod. I’m not sure why they are regressing with use of those again.
Safety issues. In the shop for working under the hood or the FD if you ever have a car fire. Plus you don't have to replace parts. I have a 2014 OB had to replace them they stopped holding the hood up. Beats using a 2x4 like in see a lot of people do.

Haha yeah not in the South. You can probably drive from Texas to Florida and count the Subaru’s on one hand.
@@Moistnmeaty90 I live in Arkansas and travel to Texas very frequently and see plenty of Subarus everyday, all the time lol. Mostly crosstreks and Outback’s, foresters are a close third.

That screen and lack of knobs is a horror show and an absolute dealbreaker.
The new redesign looks very solid overall. Unfortunately, not having the manual transmission option available is a dealbreaker for me.
You and a total of 30 other people in the US. Now you know why.
They are trolling the comment sections from their 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis while waiting to get those senior early bird specials at the local buffets.
they dont have blue sapphire on a brz but its on the wrx bro..

Why don't they offer the turbo version in this model. To scared it would eat sales from their other models.
Subarus infotainment system is what kills it for me. Aside from having a bad audio system on the lower trims
