the writing is top notch. I watched a stage performance once on Halloween. The jokes. every line had me cracking up. It was actually too much and too good.

Their timing was spot-on, in relation to the cartridge's stylus making contact with the vinyl. Why not just let the record play? Because timing is everything, and they could not rely on Wednesday hitting the record's groove in exactly the right place, and that the record's "spin" position would be exactly where it needed to be for the music to start, at the beginning of the song, and start immediately. The only way to have the first note in the song start, the instant the stylus hit the record, was for someone to press "start" on a taped copy of the song. And their timing was perfect. The above is one of countless, professional, unseen details, prepared in advance, and performed by the staff, that contributed to the success of the show.
