Just replaying this and file #1. Warner Wolf was incredibly memorable. His authenticity is what I recall on that very day. I was listening to IITM at that time.
Warner Wolf is still one of the best in the business. And the fact that he doesn't have a job is a testament to how bad the media business is now. He may be 70 but he shouldn't have been basically forced to retire. He has so much to offer and he's ten times better than most of the sports anchors on air.
I agree. On that incredulous day, I was at work and listening into "Imus in the morning" via radio when the events occurred and Warner Wolf's personal viewing plus comments on those events stand out a lot in my mind whenever I think back on that day.
This was the worst 9/11 broadcast in the entire world! The fact he doesn't have a job doesn't surprise me. The fact this Imus moron kept his job is strange to me. The whole station should have closed after this disgrace.
I'm surprised to hear that they didn't suspend commercial breaks. I worked at an NPR station and was the local anchor on 9/11. At least NOR stations didn't have to worry about commercials.

3:28 Imus is speechless (maybe trying to ad-lib while watching the TV monitor?) for maybe the first time in his career? Overall, these guys did a good job filling air time during the hours the 9-11 tragedies unfolded...
Imus should have kept Warner on the line. Huge mistake , Warner is a veteran reporter that was only seven blocks from the towers with a birds eye view as it was happening. He didn’t like Warner very much.
I remember watching footage from a helo circling the buildings that clearly showed the tower leaning prior to the collapse. This is bringing back all the horrible memories.

Looking back, America was not on the balls of her feet. And should have been. Rather than concern for our people, our morals, and our institutions, criminal minds were concerned with their financial take. That weakened America and made her vulnerable. America today is more deeply vulnerable.
They went to commercial? You have to be kidding me! Paying the bills was more important than what was going on? Thousands died, and they have to sell stuff?
Well, we can look back now and see how things were but at the time, they were probably caught off guard. I'm sure they had very few listeners by doing that with so much happening fast and chaotic. It was a bad decision for sure.
Imus as his usual underwhelming self. He barely sounds awake. You would never know from listening to him and the lack of emotion in his voice that our country was experiencing a national emergency.
It's you. Imus created Howard, he wouldn't have existed without his mentor, and they are both on the Mount Rushmore of the greatest in radio history. Imus just did it without spanking strippers.
@@marcmcdonough8074 usually I don’t like either one but on 9/11 Howard and his callers were FAR better- this is almost boring. Imus isn’t understanding the implications of what happened Warner is trying to point out how serious it is “it’s gone!” But I - man is just…there
Anybody who appreciates this coverage of that morning should listen to Howard Stern's show at that time. Far more emotional and descriptive. Warner Wolf, to me, doesn't sound all that phased.
it was not up to him doing commercials the decision to do commercials was a upper management decision, imus was affected emotionally by what was happening just listen to the deep breath he takes at the 41 minute mark.
Wolf's anguish at 9:30 is heartbreaking, and brings back horrific memories.

Running commercials during this time was in such bad taste and horrible management decision making.
That's Emmis Broadcasting for ya!
@John D I agree BAD taste. Howard Stern show that day played 0 commercials and stayed on air way over normal schedule
Why let terror win... keep the commercials
@@LadyJay114 Wasn't Emmis then, was Infinity Broadcasting...

Imagine losing coverage of the south tower collapse because you had a commercial break.
Rest in peace Mr Don Imus, my condolences to your family! I was listening to your show when it first happened on my way to work. God bless you
Fact is that Don Imus was NOT a great human being to other human beings outside of his family.
Again, Imus clearly is overcome by what he is seeing and reporting...fumbling for words, near speechless at 40:15...

oh yeah...at that point it was clear we were at war with somebody.
Great coverage of 9.11. Thank you for posting.

56:42 listen to the story this guy tells. The pain and fear in his voice about 90 seconds in…. Absolutely heartbreaking.
The confusion was evident here, and the commercials were just routine, until someone realized this was not OK

Warner just said what we were all thinking. Shock and disbelief!
It is mind blowing how long it took them to scrap the spots that day ... wow.

The first thing I hear: "Great, you didn't get burned"
Bruh.
Following this minute by minute and hearing their reactions has given me a headache. One has to be prepared to receive the information on this level.
I can't believe those stupid commercials.
