Haven’t seen anyone mention it, but the fallen Marine in a Blue Suit in Char is named M. Koiter, in honor of Michel Koiter, a beloved blizzard artist that passed away in 2004 at 19yo of heart failure. He worked on early WoW.

Just now understood the significance of Jim using his pistol to kill Tychus. We see when he's docking dominion ships the pistol only has one bullet, meant to take revenge on Arcturus. And after rescuing Kerrigan, he's using his bullet to kill his friend but more importantly to save her. He has been obsessed on taking revenge on Arcturus for leaving her behind on Tarsonis, but now that she's safe he's willing to let go of his revenge because protecting her is his top priority.
I find this simple thing to really emphasize how Jimmy is a man driven by love (and grief) instead of revenge like we are led to believe at first, and the parallel with the purely revenge driven Kerrigan (not saying she's not right, I'd be pretty pissed too) we can see afterwards makes it all the more meaningful
The attention to details in Blizzard cinematics, I just love it

The thing about Tychus is that he really, really didn't want to betray Jimmy. But that suit he was trapped in? It would have killed him if he disobeyed. That's what the little red light was about. Until Kerrigan was dead he was stuck in the suit and effectively had a gun to his head every second of every day and it was Mengst who had his finger on that trigger.

Zeratul also returns to Aiur to commune with the Overmind tendrils during the Wings of Liberty Prophecy missions, which presumably happen shortly before the main events of WoL, or possibly at the beginning of that campaign.
Of course, the takeaway is that Zeratul has always wished to protect Aiur, and his actions in the Brood War campaigns leave him with incredible guilt. His intention was always to give his life for Aiur, and he perhaps means it more than any other Protoss has before due to these burdens. I agree, it's a fantastic line and is probably the best possible sendoff for Zeratul.

Tychus is a odd one, yes he's got a personality that leaves much to be desired but Arcturus can literally shut his organs down with a button because of his suit. At the same time he really does care for Jim. Not many people seem to catch it, but my interpretation is the entire Bar brawl with Jim starts because Tychus hears the men complaining about Jim, he looks at his reflection and he realises the men need to be unified, so he makes himself the 'bad guy'. He acts drunk, when he clearly wasn't beforehand and is negative about Jim so the others on the crew reactively side with Jim because they don't like Tychus and don't want to agree with him. He takes his shot at kerrigan after Arcturus orders it because he's not a good guy, he's just Jim's friend, he has two options, refuse a let Mensk shut his organs down, or take one shot from a guy he KNOWS will make it quick. His "damn shame" to me was never about killing Kerrigan although of course that kind of comment is expected of him, to me it was always a "shame my friend has to kill me but if thats the way its gotta be."
Tychus is an interesting take on a criminal who knows exactly who he is and how people see him and he uses that throughout the story in actually quite cunning ways, he's not good but he wants Jim to succeed, but he'd also prefer if he was free and alive as well. He takes that final shot as a kind of let the cards fall how they may, either he kills Kerrigan, Jim misses and he's free or he dies quick rather than slow.
Also an edit for Heart of the Swarm: Kerrigan was gonna kill all those people until she killed the General and kinda realised she was acting in anger, its a huge part of the expansion the cutscenes don't show you of Kerrigan fighting with her anger because its consuming millions of innocent lives in the process, most of the Starcraft 2 character stuff comes from in game cutscenes in the 'Hub zones' that this compilation doesn't show but some other videos do. Kerrigan is a cool character and we empathise because she's the main one of the expansion but Heart of the Swarm is about her consitantly choosing revenge over the lives of millions and acting in honestly horrific and cruel ways (she turns a protoss woman she's spoken to a number of times into a parasite bomb without really blinking). She gets her 'save the universe' moment but for the Heart of the Swarm stuff she was just killing for revenge for a loooong portion of it. The ingame stuff stresses the damage she's doing a bit more whereas apart from wakefield and breaking jim out of prison the other cutscenes are just Hero Moments
Also without the ingame interactions in the hub areas you miss out on a lot of cool characters for the zerg and protoss especially

Some additional context (obviously spoilers for all three campaings):
There is a lot of stuff missing from this because a lot of info is learned before, during and after missions, you can talk to people on your ship to trigger conversations that are not shown here but have a lot of info sometimes. In one Tychus tells you (or rather Matt learns it from running a scan on his suit) that he's trapped in that armor and there is basically a killswitch in it, if it receives a correct signal it will kill Tychus. That's why he still works for Arcturus.
Basically over the first campaing you're getting alien artefacts that Tychus mentions at the start, eventually you learn that they are all pieces of one artifact that merge together, and the contact that Tychus was doing this for is Mengsk's son Valerian through that Moebius corporation. That's the pillar at 42:30, and Valerian wanted it assembled because he thought it could cure Kerrigan. The final mission of that campaing is defending it until it's charged enough to cure her.
The cinematics show two scenes with Tosh in the first campaing, they are exlusive with one another depending on if you side with him or not. You get contacted by Nova (the ghost in the second one) and she tells you that Tosh and his Spectres (Ghosts 2.0 basically) are all psychopaths and killers, and he wants the prison open to free his spectre buddies. He does tell you this before that even, so it's not like he lied, Nova kinda just exaggerates or maybe even lies about how uncontrollable and insane they are. Apparently some people did not respond to the Spectre program, but others like Tosh are completely normal (or about as normal as you could expect). If you side with Tosh you break open the New Folsom prison, so that's the first option. Or you can tell Tosh to f off and you instead stop him, and then she kills him in the second cinematic.
The crystal that Zeratul gives Raynor is a memory recording crystal and it gives you like 4 missions where you play either as Zeratul or Protoss, and it shows how he learns of the Kerrigan prophecy, he ecounters Zerg/Protoss hybrid and also a vision of the future if Kerrigan dies, where everything gets consumed by the rogue Xel'naga Amon and his hybrid.
The second campaing doesn't skip as much important information, but still, after Kerrigan learns that Jim is "dead", she goes to Zerg space to dominate as many Zerg as possible so she could attack Korhal to kill Mengsk. She goes to Char (Warfield cinematic) and another planet to build her brood, and then to the planet Zerus after Zeratul sends her there to evolve. There she learns both of the primordial power that transforms her again and she also learns of Amon from the oldest Zerg on the planet, who lived before Amon changed the Zerg. While on that planet Mengsk also contacts her after her transformation and tells her to stay away from him because Jim still lives and he has him. Afterwards she meets Stukov who tells him of Narud/Duran from SC1 and his laboratory where he makes the hybrids for Amon, he was in the first campaing involved with the Moebius corporation posing as a scientist Dr Narud. He helped cure Kerrigan because the artifact trapped all the power from Kerrigan and he used it to resurrect Amon. Then she rescues Jim and goes pretty much straight for Korhal.
The third one is pretty straightforward, most of it is understandable from the cinematics, Amon returns and controls all the Protoss that are connected to the Khala while they are trying to retake Aiur from the Zerg, who are also being controlled by Amon. Artanis takes the survivors, removes their nerve cords and goes planet to planet to get more people while also fighting Amon's forces. They use the same Xel'naga artifact to pull Amon from the Khala, and while he's trapped they all remove their cords, and he gets expelled back into the Void. After the third campaing there is like a 3 mission epilogue which is fighting Amon in the Void, and Kerrigan ascending as Xel'naga.

@@Alientcp That's a difficult proposition. With Kerrigan basically being a deity now, and a satisfying epilogue, where can the story go if forward? Kerrigan has been established to not be absent in the Koprulu Sector, so why would she be absent if there were a Starcraft 3? You would need to create a new big baddie that's worse than a trans-dimensional eternal threat. That's a little tough to top.
The alternative is making some sort of prologue story, or an alternate reality. I don't think those are nearly as exciting outside of the domain of custom campaigns that people already make pretty well.

She is far from a diety, she only ascended as a Xel'Naga, though the Xel'Naga are largely unknown, and most of the lore are legends, from their actions, we can only deduce that they were a highly intelligent race, though not necessarily strong, as they were mostly wiped out by the zerg.
Kerrigan was not a Xel'Naga, she was human, and then hybrid with the zerg, She ascended as a Xel'Naga to beat Amon, though we do not know if that was permanent, as she returns in fully human form at the end of legacy of the void to take Raynor.
In any case, im not the writer and im not making any game any time soon. I only stated that the game is potentially getting a sequel. I cannot make a claim of whether storywise a sequel is possible or not. I cant tell, as the story is unfinished and some key details as mentioned, were omitted. Also to note: the scene where Tosh was killed is not canon. In the first SC2 game, there are two missions where you can choose to help between two different characters, which leads to a different outcome. In that mission, you have to choose between helping Tosh or Nova, and Tosh is the canon choice, therefore he's still alive!

Its SO good, we are so spoiled because we are probably never getting an RTS story campaign as good as this again 🥲

Even the Warcraft movie...how hard can it be to just give us a story piece of Arthas' way to becoming a Death Lord. Simple starts like this, give it a 90-120 minute time frame and people would storm the cinemas for all coming movies. Turning the SC 1 + 2 stories into a well done series or movies (not like the Halo series) is like printing money. I really don't get it.

But, instead, she pushed her relationship and the bigger threat aside to get what she really wanted, revenge. And if billions upon trillions of innocent lives have to be spent to get what she wants, then so be it. She said it herself, there's "something dark" in her.

The final Amon death one is a bit quick... but it does come right after a massive section of you playing as all 3 races together along with super Kerrigan against him. They probably figured that was climactic enough and made the cut scene short and sweet. Obviously a lot of context gets missed because it happens in-mission, but the last sequence (the epilogue going into the Void to kill Amon) really misses out the most. A lot of the most emotionally impactful moments happen across those three missions as the three races come together in support of Kerrigan. If you were looking for a more satisfying leadup to the finish there, I recommend checking out some gameplay of the epilogue missions. Shoot, playing the whole campaign is worth it, but watching is probably more time-convenient.
It's amazing how much this story works for people who only remember the game from their youth. I was grateful to see how much of the nuance was picked up on in this reaction, and I have to say I felt pretty much the same way about these characters. Blizzard used to do this right, and I miss those days dearly.

Stukov’s “reunion” with Narud is particularly poignant.

Becca, even though you really emphasize the sentiment " let the girlie do whatever she wants you jerk " vibe, it was so sweet that you genuinely shed tears and hoped for raynor and sarah to end together. Says alot about your character, and you being emotional about it was awesome to watch. Thanks!

"My life... for Aiur!!"... That scene always gets me! The same when Raynor helped Sarah and they finally achieved their mutual goal but acknowledging that they both love each other despite all that happened, the handshake scene ("it is your custom... to shake the hand of a friend. Is it not? -hands together- Give them Hell, Artanis! -hands shake-") is beautiful, but my favorite part is probably the ending. That always brings a smile to my face that Raynor finally got that peace and quiet he fought for all those years :) Great reaction!

damn, here i am crying again. Zeratu's death always hit me hard. I grew up on this game. Zeratul was always the coolest character to me in the Starcraft 1 and Star Craft: Brood War.
Also super loved the ending that Jim and Kerrigan deserved.

I played StarCraft religiously as a kid, and Jim was one of my big go-to heroes. I remember HATING Sarah Kerrigan at the end of Brood War (she's the absolute fucking worst - someone you love to hate, basically). I was basically going around hoping to see Jim finally kill her for like eight years or something. Then StarCraft 2 dropped and... well, I still think StarCraft 1 has a grittier, more brutal story, but goddammit, how they handle the love story between Jim and Sarah is such a tearjerker. I teared up like you. At the end of Heart of the Swarm, when Jim just resigns to the fact that he can never be with Sarah, and sees her fly away and still smiles, because you know... it was a pleasure. That made me choke up. And then, even though I think the whole cosmic superhero chosen one thing with Kerrigan in Legacy of the Void is pretty hoakey, I have to admit that I LOVE that Blizzard finally gave Jim and Sarah their own little happy ending. They fucking deserved it. And please, let no one ever touch them again, let them be in peace, lol.

There's a lot of context being missed because there's so much dialogue during missions and conversations between cutscenes, but this video has the gist of it. Otherwise we'll be here for hours pouring over every piece of the story. Also, the game started with "Hell, it's about time" and ended with it.

In defense of Jim, revenge is always self-destruction and thats why hes so headstrong in "saving" Sarah (more so getting away from it all, he himself too, with Sarah) but in this particular case he has a point cause Mengsk would have still fallen with Valerian and Matt still after him. Jim just wanted both of them to let go for truly a better future and the cinematics dont really show how much growth Jim also went through in the gameplay, he truly saw how bad and pointless the path of revenge really is and how much innocent blood is shed on its way. Sarah was brainwashed by the hivemind after all and that, combined with her lust for revenge, are the two walls topping her from remembering "oh, Ive killed T r i l l i o n s of innocent people all across the galaxy." (including a good chunk of Jim's friends and he was dealing with the inner battle of actually wanting to still believe that the Sarah he fell in love with still existed despite the atrocities commited) but ofc Jim shares all of these thoughts too cause he was a marine under the dominion after all. To me they truly care for each other on a very deep and absolutely unconditional level, but they are also a tad selfish in their own ways, after all you (Jim) cannot force someone down a path they dont want to even if you think its the best for them and also (Sarah) all of our choices carry consequences that affect those we love.
Dont get me wrong, the Queen of Blades is one of the coolest characters in the history of gaming ever, her power, her motivations, her design, everything is peak well written powerful female lead, period.
Buuuuuuut the Shakespearean tragedy aspect of this story is also delicious haha and truly places the saga above and beyond, transforming it into one of the most iconic in the history of gaming.
Anyhow, amazing reaction! Instantly became a fan! Check out Warhammer 40k next if you wanna deep dive into more insane sci fi shennanigans!

Loved watching this. I'm to know someone else got weepy when Zeratul died and at the end when you weren't sure if there would be a happy ending. I got pretty emotional at the end when Sarah appeared at the tavern to greet Jim one last time. I remember when the game came out and there was a little bit of critical reception on the end, but it was pretty much unanimous that Jim and Sarah needed a happy ending after what they went through.

Enjoyed seeing your emotional attachments in this story despite you being a filthy zerg lover:P I teared up too at the same scenes. 20 years ago I didn't play for 2 weeks after they left Kerrigan behind, I was so mad.

man, so many of the Legacy of the Void cinematics put tears in my eyes. I was 10 when starcraft 1 came out. I played the game for thousands and thousands of hours. The death of Zeratual was tough. Six games. 18 years in the making. A story I started as a child, finished in my 20s. StarCraft will always be my favorite game. People had almost given up on SC2 coming out, then they dropped the trailer, with tychus saying "Hell, its about time.". I forgot that Jim says it at the end. So good.

"They say a man never really knows himself, until his freedom's been taken away." "Hell it's about time." That intro always gives me chills. All the games were great, but Wings of Liberty got me so personally invested, perhaps because you were rolling with other humans and a heroic badass like Raynor.

Did I plan on sitting with someone that popped into my feed for two hours? Nope, but I'm glad I did. I liked how you'd just let it played -- honestly made it feel like I was sittin there watching/crying with you. I am now officially subscribed! I miss the days of Blizzard having coherent storylines.
