'A Bit Of A Bore On The Ribble - 11th March 2024'

  • The tide floods up the River Ribble twice every day pushing against the river current. Unless the tide is high and powerful it goes unnoticed.
    March 11th was a very high tide for Preston and also came just after a new moon so it was worth a visit to see if a tidal bore wave would arrive.
    And here it is!
    Although there is still a lot of water flowing down the Ribble this wave was strong and noisy. In the right conditions the wave can also be much taller.
    The wave lost its power and quietened as it left the shallows and met the deeper channel at the Buill Nose.
