  • Overhanging and fallen trees being cleared from the riverbank to allow safe passage for oarspeople out training. I am splitting salvaged timber into firewood.

      Gerry, I don't know, but it's located on the north bank around the first bend, just up from the big bay-if you can remember your own time up and down the river all those years ago.

    Hi Michael. Thanks for all your videos. Have really enjoyed watching them.
    Could you tell me please where I could source one of those 6kg Müller Mauls?I’ve found two companies but one was in America and the other Australia! Surely there’s somewhere closer to me? I live in England.
    Cheers, Ben.

    hi Michael , just wondering what’s your day shift splitting blocks? How many hours can you bear on the axe, it’s tough work. Is this your main occupation? Just curious , love the vids

    • @michaelkearney5562
      @michaelkearney5562  2 года назад

      Andrew: I did a nine hour day at this work on one occasion about eight years ago. Unlikely that I could do it now, as I am not getting younger. Overall, I can do four to five hours in a day without any effects, except for being tired, and the cure for that is a good night's sleep. The secret is to work steady at a pace that can be maintained. Don't get involved in a war of attrition with a block that is particularly difficult. It can tire a person out to the extent that the entire working day is affected.

      @@michaelkearney5562 that’s a lot of time on the axe michael, you’ve been blessed with real strength. I got myself an ochsenkopf axe and maul and enjoy splitting timber here in Tipperary, though can be pretty tough at times with elm, sceach and knotty palms of some sort. I’m actually thinking of purchasing a road towable log splitter built by Carroll Engineering if uv heard of them, top of the range stuff. Have you ever had a log splitter michael?

    • @michaelkearney5562
      @michaelkearney5562  2 года назад

      @@andrewmorrissey8478 I have no intention of going down the mechanised route. A log splitter takes the fun out of the whole process.
