Yes I was so happy that vinnie got to play a character that had a lot more depth than just thug which is what you usually see him play. The guy can act and he proved it on this show.
Geoff was a crucial character because he provided a point of stability and trust. This gave the audience an occasional break from all the 'badness' going on... just as Eddie was able to collect his thoughts, get some support and 'home' his perspective in truth, we were able to as well. It made the twists seem less arbitrary, and made them way more effective. I also don't know why people talk about how the middle part was 'boring,' or didn't contribute to the story.
I agree that Geoff being Charlys father came almost out of nowhere but to me it kind of justified his extreme unconditional loyalty to the family so I think it was a good addition
I quite liked Vinnie Jones being soft individual which mirrors his actual personality. That was one of the highlights of the show for me. I seeing him.
First time I have seen a series spin off from a great movie actually work, Guy Ritchie has shown his class in switching from Big screen to one in your living room
*As much as I enjoyed the show and as great as Giancarlo Esposito is* … bro needs to stop playing roles where he’s just Gus.. this is like the 8th stoic, cold villain role he’s played.. and he’s even a Meth kingpin in this 💀
Depends on what you feel is important I guess. Being an incredible and consistent type cast can earn you a lot of money, but it’ll stunt your artistic development as an actor, but the thing is that Giancarlo Esposito has had a very long career as an actor before he made it big with Gus. There is no artistic development to really sacrifice - he’s old now and therefore, I think he should really lean into this type cast so he can make a bunch of money and enjoy life

He killed Henry Collins. My question at the end was, now that the Russians contact is dead and the Colombian women’s dead do their factions come for revenge?
Are we certain he did? They never showed the body. They usually do scenes like that to create leverage during contract negotiations. Like how in the recent Spiderman movie, Aunt May died and Peter's friends had their memory wiped. Marisa Tomei probably already said no but the others probably still needed a deal worked out. Geoff being the real father explains why he was so committed to the family. Strangest thing to me was the lack of romantic entanglements between Geoff and the lady of the house or Eddy and Susie…that could be saved for next season…
it was highly showed there was something there with Geoff and the mother ... We knew, it was enough... No need for this type of scene in a show like this I think. For Eddy and Susie I liked them as business partner you could see he had more interest in the blond girl than susie so it would not be a good decision to mix romance with them (in my opinion)
Her husband died lol it makes sense tbh they stopped it years ago. So no reason to do it especially when her husband died and given his knowledge of the business was friends with the father

I really enjoyed it, especially after a second watch, there were a ton of foreshadowing that flew over my head the first round, like: 1. Jimmy revealing to Gabrielle that theirs is only 1 out of 12 bases of production in episode 5, which is how Stevens shared with Eddie in episode 7 that they 'believed there are 11 more' aside from his house that the Glass family has under their pocket. By that time Jimmy hadn't known yet they acquired 2 more properties, so Eddie surprised Stevens ('13, actually') These were only a few that I was able to spot idk, moments like these are interesting to pick at
Yeah that felt like it was wrapped up too quickly with no real sense of retribution, which someone like Gospel John would endlessly chase for his brother.
I saw this title and wondered if I had missed something, but nope the ended was as simple and straight forward as I thought it was, not sure why this video exists.
I wish Eddie and Susie had a chance to have at least one romantic moment. For example, when he got into her apartment, she was out of her usual sassiness, a moment of weakness should have lead them into getting closer. It would add a little bit of passion, since their chemistry the whole time was amazing.
That’s what I was hoping to see as well. It would have been so amazing and I thought for sure when she was in her apartment that something would happen. Hopefully if there is a season 2 it happens
Agree overall, deeply regarding those inner season episodes that felt kind of "pushed" to the audience. Other thing is that we do not have a clear timeline regarding when the facts occurred. Besides that, greeeat product from a TOP TIER Director. It would be just AWESOME to see some of the characters of Guy Ritchie´s world jumping on the stage. Protagonist from Revolver, the chess players, the gipsy from snatch, etc. That would be MIND blowing!!!!
I enjoyed the show but the end was a little bit of an anti-climax. I was looking forward to Mr Johtnson getting more dramatic justice like in the movie.
Great serie, great cast, great dialogues, great decor and settings, great humor, great violence. I did not know Guy Ritchie has such class! And the music....! Excellent! Loved the serie. ❤
Honestly, Geoff is the most underrated character, not to mention an amazing actor. Opening scene in episode 6, where Geoff says "let it play out." As simple of a scene this is, proved to me that this show is everything.
It is, as with all Guy Ritchies work, a master piece. Two strories running parralell to one another. The virtuous light bearer who wants to eradicate the darkness but realising you must know the darkness like you know your own face and this means having to play them at their own game in order to forfil your will. Mr Winstones character knows this all too well and Mr Glass is lining up a move with Mr Johnstone in readiness for action to prevent the light becoming so bright that his battle is no longer a fight. The second story is the cannanite evil doers with no god (soul) who control all facets of oir socierty and will stop at nothing to remain in power and control. Hacking you to pieces in a carpark is just in a days work. The light must rise and shine so bright on the dark that no corner is left where it can hide.
He’s better than that. What great actor wants to be typecast as Bond? It’s for lesser actors IMO. Theo has range and I want to see him in some excellent tv series and films, not boring Bond.
Just finished binge watching the whole series, thought it was really good, 8 out of 10 for sure, dialogue and acting, subtle comedy, clever story telling, interesting characters and arcs... best of all, no woke bs.
There was one scene with the traveller thief woman where she screamed something about "diversity" after the BLACK GUY insulted her as "gipsy". She also screamed at the black guy he is "racist", and he just told her "traveller, gipsy, there is no difference." what destroys the woke narrative Illusion that only "white men" can be racist. So, I think It was like MOCKING the woke rather than supporting it, but also in clever way since when a 'white man" would have insulted her like that there would be a Mainstream backlash.
I LOVE THIS SHOW! WE WANT SIX SEASONS AND A MOVIE! If you don't like the show, don't watch it and keep your opinions to yourself, it isn't costing you any money to look away. Again, GUY, WE NEEEEED SIX SEASONS AND A MOVIE!
It wasn't disclosed. Bobby just says to both Susie and Edward he called him up and said he'd make it worth his while and now that Edward had to make it up to Bobby, something along those lines. Cliffhanger ending on this part of the story that started it all. I also wanted to know what happened to the gypsies. Can't remember if that was already explained. Perhaps explored more in season 2...
This sho is a brilliant commedic version of Breaking Bad plot with Walt only selling drugs in the beginning to cure Cancer and care for his family but then sticking to the Drug empire when he relises that he's good at it. Even the Main bad guy Gus Fringe from Breaking Bad selling Meth plays the same character with a different name. The idea of the Prison coming from Escobar, who built his own luxury prison called La Catedral.
Really refreshing, just a great watch! I binged the whole lot in one go. Don't judge. Kaya lost her accent very quickly, but the characters were brilliant. Great seeing Vinnie being a different sort of character than he normally is. It is a Guy Ritchie series through and through. Full of little surprises! Really in my opinion very enjoyable, and watchable to the extreme. If you love lock stock and also snatch, the film "the gentlemen" included. You will love this, as long as you love long format. Actors fantastic, writing is amazing, the Netflixness is minimal, just generally a good Guy Ritchie series that needs no Madonna.
I think more than anything Eddie knows that the only real way to protect his family is to be at the top of the food chain. Doesn't have to have full control but enough to know what's going on at every point. He's good at playing the gentleman's game yes, but it's not for excitement or because he's trying to be a gangster. It's because he's seen how downhill you go if you try to say no to these gangsters. So he might as well play the game to protect his family. Which coincidentally is what his family has been doing for generations. I loved it because it shows how not so simple responsibilities are in this world. Like look at Mickey Pearson. He tried to get out and the moment others sensed weakness they came in. That's why to me Mr Glass doesn't want to really sell. He'll have no control over these assets and players. The thrill is there, yes. But they don't do it for the thrill. They do it to survive. Hence the whole jungle and zoo theme. You're either surviving in the jungle or living like waste 🗑 in the zoo. That's my take though.
Loved the series The Gentlemen, great character development. The Duke was Brilliant and the storyline was captivating! I was getting to the point of eliminating Freddy, he was just a constant obstacle.
I’m assuming the Geoff being Charlottes father storyline was put in as a nod to Joely Richardson famously played Lady Chatterley who had an affair with a groundskeeper
OK, midway, after Jack's big fight, Suzie has three people offed: the Uzbek boxer, the accountant, and the third guy (the first to get it), on his lawn fixing a BMX. Who was that? Thought it was Henty Collins, but it's not. Help.
So what's its connection to the movie? Did Susie's father buy Mickey business or something considering there is nothing really that ties this series to the movie except for the weed farm under the estates idea which was Mickey's.
As much as I enjoyed this I was still confused if this is a direct spin off to the film or just the same idea with no direct interaction with the film. I thought from the film this was Matthew's business so I assume it's Guy playing off the same plot with different characters. Am I correct in this? I still would have liked a direct spin off with Charlie's character and Coach. I know Matthew's a big time actor and can't be involved in a series but maybe a cameo of him would have been nice.
Doesn't appear so. It's just a TV spinoff. It's not impossible for them to show up. McConnaughey and Charlie have careers that have fallen off a lot. Remember, Kaya Scoladario and Theo James used to be decent movie stars too, along with some others. The industry is shifting more towards TV now. Movie theaters are dead.
@@dickriggles942 Could not be more wrong. Barbie, Oppenheimer, Dune 2, Godzilla, etc all brought in massive crowds. Cinema is alive and well, it's streaming services that are struggling
@@youraveragepasser-by7367 You were clearly born two years ago and don't remember when movie theaters were packed every weekend. You have no idea how much they are seriously hurting. They get maybe five movies that do decently now. Go and compare the box office numbers from before COVID. It's night and day. I have to go to work, but when I go home, I'll show you.
I honestly liked the side quest aspect of the middle of the season. Gave the world a more fleshed out feeling and let us into the daily goings on of the various players involved in this criminal game. Not everything needs to be building up to a huge crescendo 24/7. That kind of serialized storytelling can get tiring and potentially up its own arse sometimes, at least for me.
Somehow I think Eddie and Susie are evolving into the micky pearson and his wife characters. Maybe in the next season they'll hook up and be this kingpin duo like in the movie
Geoff had to be related due to the overt family theme. Why would anyone else be so loyal unless they were family? Along with the gangster themes was the overlaying family theme over and over again. Brother defending brother. Brother avenging brother. Daughter father and the business. I could go on and on however every episode the family theme was there.
i think its cause he was very loyal therefore trusted, but also disposable if it did get pulled over and i also think thats why it was deliberately a 1996 old transit so it would not attract attention and no one would think for a minute that it had such valuable cargo
I really liked it. The whole series felt more like an episodic show with overarching plot. I see each episode as a mini Guy Ritchie film and it was so much fun. They could release this weekly and it would work well.
A very good story. Especially the first half part. As every series it has a tendency to keep the tempo or flow going. It’s still one of the greatest series for a long time. But a little too long
honestly I felt like guy richtie was inspired heavily by Wes Anderson of all people. I know that sounds weird but there's some definite grand Budapest homages going on, and the editing and sound design. Idk maybe im wrong
I dont know but i kinda liked the Mercy subplot. Admit it wasn't absolutely necessary but the story and the action itself was good. Like any Guy Ritchie movie it was an excuse to put in sexy cars and car chases.
So how's the ownership structue in the end if dad retracted his exit? Ed & Susie's money buys in as partners to the biz now capped at 235m? Also, i don't think the Bobby issue was going to go away that easy- we're talking about his bro's life here.
I liked the series but the options seemed quite clear. The original agreement provided an annual income of five million dollors. Negotiating the terms of the income generates unnecessary risk. And asking the group for help puts you in a compromising and even more vulnerable position. It would have been good to see the soldier taking them out with his military training. That would have been intense.

Honestly, Geoff is the most underrated character, not to mention an amazing actor. Opening scene in episode 6, where Geoff says "let it play out." As simple of a scene this is, proved to me that this show is everything.
What a magnificent show! Enjoyed every minute of it 🤯😎
There better be a second season. I can't handle all that sexual tension being left unresolved.
I hope so!
Nothing of note would be lost if there weren't but it was a gorgeous, well-written show. I would arguably say this was better than his other movies.
Theo James could be bond !
Yeah I was thinking the same thing when I saw the recent announcement
Good shout 👍
He’s better than that. What great actor wants to be typecast as Bond? It’s for lesser actors IMO. Theo has range and I want to see him in some excellent tv series and films, not boring Bond.
Loved it. I think Collins is still alive and there will definitely be a season 2.
I hope there will be!
Absolutely brilliant 👏 👌
Just finished binge watching the whole series, thought it was really good, 8 out of 10 for sure, dialogue and acting, subtle comedy, clever story telling, interesting characters and arcs... best of all, no woke bs.
I just finished too! I agree with your synopsis
Eddie - Thomas Shelby (PB)
Geoff - Mike (BB) (BCS)
Susie - Ruth (Ozark)
Freddy - Fredo (Godfather)
fredo was way worse than freddy
I enjoyed it a lot looking forward to a season 2
Loved it
I LOVE THIS SHOW!
WE WANT SIX SEASONS AND A MOVIE!
If you don't like the show, don't watch it and keep your opinions to yourself, it isn't costing you any money to look away.
Again, GUY, WE NEEEEED SIX SEASONS AND A MOVIE!
Great show, fine return to form for Ritchie and the team he put together
Yeah I agree!
The chicken scene was brilliant…. BERGERK!
Yeah it was 😂
What was said to the Gospel by Bobby glass for him to leave Freddie alone. He wanted to avenge his brother
@rafh2753 the last thing we know about the gypsies is that they helped Edward gather money for the bid for Glass' Empire.
That’s the only bit I couldn’t believe, he wouldn’t just walk away for a payoff he was dead set on revenge a second ago
Guessing if there's a season 2 then he's going to sell out Freddy at a different time so that his plans could come together first.
@@rafh2753Eddie agreed with them to run shipments again
Great show! I was like No!!!! It can’t be over yet.
I was thinking of Breaking bad as well just more ironic and light despite the violence.
It is been so long that I watched a well thought and written script 👌🏼 Great show
Yeah it was a good show for sure
What do you mean Kaya lost her accent? She sounded like her normal British accent
Only thing I hated was not seeing episode 9 pop up.
Haha, yeah I wish there was more too!
The most interesting take on the ending is we got to see that eddie is actually the most ruthless of them all and he enjoys it
I think more than anything Eddie knows that the only real way to protect his family is to be at the top of the food chain.
Help.
The ref from the fight
The ref?!?! Ach! Not sure I ever would've gotten that. Thank you! @@daveyyg33
No gangster would ever bring anybody to their top secret weed, farm
It's criminal that this show only had 8 episodes. I wanted a minimum of ten
So what's its connection to the movie? Did Susie's father buy Mickey business or something considering there is nothing really that ties this series to the movie except for the weed farm under the estates idea which was Mickey's.
This was a great series I would love to see more guy ritchie series
Yeah same here!
why was the bid so low?
wasnt the business not getting 15mil per base per month so 1.2 billion per year?
Because they can just wipe the competition and pay less
I think adding that he was the father of some of the children was great bc the whole movie was him taking on a dad role.
I didn't realize at first that Stanley Johnstone was in the same prison as Mr Glass in the end
Guy Ritchie didn't direct most of the episodes. Just a heads up.
I didn’t think it was ambiguous at all that Eddie killed Collins at the end. What reason would he have to spare him?
Binged in a night! What a show!
It's a good show isn't it!
@@youraveragepasser-by7367they are *nowhere* near as packed as they were back a few years before covid
Maybe in the next season they'll hook up and be this kingpin duo like in the movie
i really hope eddy and glass kiss or date like commoooon they're chemistry is off the charts w/ their prev roles in divergent
I enjoyed this. But thought the plot hole to drive a van through was.. madass Jimmy being entrusted to drive a van of product !?!
i think its cause he was very loyal therefore trusted, but also disposable if it did get pulled over and i also think thats why it was deliberately a 1996 old transit so it would not attract attention and no one would think for a minute that it had such valuable cargo
Collins was not killed because he has skills and contacts that both Eddie and Susie know they need to run their illicit weed enterprise.
This was GREAT!
Yeah it really was!
But a little too long
Great show loved it
Yeah same here!
But why did Eddie feel compelled to kill Henry Collins. He didnt really have any blood with him?
honestly I felt like guy richtie was inspired heavily by Wes Anderson of all people. I know that sounds weird but there's some definite grand Budapest homages going on, and the editing and sound design. Idk maybe im wrong
The ending with Eddie just becoming a betraying trickster psychopath kind of ruined it for me, still great till the last 15mins
This show wad dang good. Hopefully we get a season 2.
I love this just finished watch it ..lots of fun
Eddie is an amazing actor. Hope he gets more Better movies n series like that.
Brilliant show brilliant cast and susie glase is a goddess ❤
The ending stretched disbelief a bit but was still fantastic
I would have liked some sort of tie in to the movie. Nothing major, just a mention or cameo that confirms it’s in the same canon.
Spectacular !!
Definitely!
Why was Bobby Glass being so friendly with Mr. Johnston? Hmmmm
I dont know but i kinda liked the Mercy subplot. Admit it wasn't absolutely necessary but the story and the action itself was good. Like any Guy Ritchie movie it was an excuse to put in sexy cars and car chases.
So is the show tied to the movie?
So how's the ownership structue in the end if dad retracted his exit? Ed & Susie's money buys in as partners to the biz now capped at 235m? Also, i don't think the Bobby issue was going to go away that easy- we're talking about his bro's life here.
The show was the perfect length and tempo. Gripping from start to finish.
The ending was a bit of a fizzer after such a dynamic series!
Can anybody share the name of the song played at the end of the last episode...
mattiel - count your blessings
Theo James is ❤❤❤❤
This was the best series❤❤...... But I thought that love angle between Eddie and susie glass 😊
Yeah I thought there would be one to be fair!
@@BrainPilot 💓💓
I liked the series but the options seemed quite clear.
The original agreement provided an annual income of five million dollors.
Negotiating the terms of the income generates unnecessary risk.
And asking the group for help puts you in a compromising and even more vulnerable position.
It would have been good to see the soldier taking them out with his military training.
That would have been intense.
That's fair! I was hoping for the big battle between the scouse gang and Eddie and the family in the penultimate episode!
Its funny because you can see elements of lock stock snatch the gentleman and maybe even the covenant regarding the actor and intro.
@BrainPilot I think they are keeping that for a possible season 2
Great review 👍🏻
Glad you liked it
Good show think it needed bit more action tho especially in last episode
If it's "Guy Ritchie," I know I am all in! AND, I was.
Yeah it was great wasn't it!
Theo should be the new James Bond
He would be good!
