Wow, two months have already passed. Just wanted to update y'all and say that I bought three more pitcher plants (two sarracenia rosea and one sarracenia flava), and all of my previous carnivorous plants are alive 😀😁
@@matstan3515 congratulations!! I have bought my first 2 carnivorous plants last week (Venus flytrap and Pinguicula agnata) and today a serracenia. I'm afraid that I might not succeed and rot or dry them out. According to your experience, what would you advise me about watering?
Brilliant video my friend. This covered all the main subjects a beginner needs to know and was very clear. I will keep it well lit and moist.. also looking forward to a solution this year, bluebottle hell is coming mwahaha. Peace
You can buy mix for carnivorous plants online (idk if they sell it in shops), or you can make a mix of about 3 parts peat moss to 1 part sand. If there aren't showing roots in the bottom of the pot you shouldn't put it in a bigger one.

You must put it outside. The changes in the weather will trigger it to go dormant. If you live in the tropicals you can put it in the fridge. If you want to find more information surf to the internet.
Hi everyone. My plant is dying it looks like it’s sizzled but I don’t feel like I have done anything to provoke that. I don’t know how to save it can someone help me out ?
@Johno As long as you’re not in a super arid/desert climate, I wouldn’t worry about humidity. That’s more important for tropical carnivorous plants like Nepenthes. As long as Sarracenia are well watered it’s not very important.
They do not need very much humidity at all. Most Sarracenia pitcher plants are native to full-sun environments where the temperature can be in the 90°s F or higher in the Summer with low humidity.
I think they need sun. My drosera died because i didn't give it sun, i thought they were the same as utricularias. I tried another with full sun and it's healthy.
distilled is good enough, even filtered tap water (tried with normal tap water as well - NON-CHLORINATED, works just fine, doesn't work for Venus fly traps though)
Sarracenia purpurea is the round and short speices of sarracenia. So you have sarracenia purpurea. S.purpurea has subspeices like S.purpurea purpurea and S.purpurea venosa. S.purpurea purpurea has a little more thiner pitchers and with smaller hoods than S.purpurea venosa. S.purpurea venosa has more round pitchers with bigger and more wavy hoods. It also has a lot of small hairs on the outer surface of the pitchers. S.purpurea purpurea is the hardiest speices of sarracenia. S.purpurea venosa is like the other speices. In my videos I have a S.purpurea venosa. If you want you can watch my videos to how S.purpurea venosa is like. I hope I helped you to identify your sarracenia. :)
I live in Finland and i get My first sarracenia to morrow but dose IT need rain water or Lake water and we Have good waters in here? But i Will try My best
They go dormant in the Winter. They look dead, but they’re still alive and will come back in the Spring. Some of the Sarracenia species begin to die back as early as the Fall, as the temps get cooler, but they will begin growing new leaves when Spring comes around again.
I literally just bought a venus flytrap, sundew plant and a trumpet pitcher plant, so I'm binge watching these care-guide videos 😭😭😭

what's up with the powder you put on at the minute 3:00 ?
It is a fungicide solition. It is like a treatment for the plant. For more information search on Google.
Very interesting this thank you, I learned loads watching this!
What type of soil do we keep it in and about what size pot? My guess is there is a ratio between the size of the plant to the pot. Thanks in advance!

What about adding water to the pitchers themselves?
great video! very helpful
The tips of mine are turning brown. I wonder if I give them too much light
Are all the leaves turning brown or only few of them? Maybe something with root system?

can i fill them holes with water?
Your gonna break the first rule of growing pitcher plants 😂
They need about 6 hours of direct sunlight, but you contradicted that by also saying: "Turning towards light source has a negative effect"
I believe he’s referring to the use of LED lights.
Yeah, that didn’t make much sense.

How can I fertilize my sarracenia in a flat where there are no insects?
My planet is kept indoors do I need to chop it down in the winter like in the video?
Same question

If it's a purperea venosa or courtii you can keep it indoors year round as long as it has shorter days and slightly cooler temperatures

Should I add some vinegar to my water for Sarracenia every now and then?
I’ve heard that using fish food (I’m trying dried bloodworms) is ideal for easy feeding.
I’m also using an african violet pot. Those pots have two pieces, where the bottom is filled with water.
What are the exact rest conditions for this plant apart from cutting, the powder and the temperature u mentioned please?
A least a month of cold storage around 40+ F, and lowered light.
You can bare root them in a fridge for example.
Can I water them with self-watering plant Globes
I have stones around mine 3/4 way up pot. It creates humidity for which they need. Is that correct?!
@Johno As long as you’re not in a super arid/desert climate, I wouldn’t worry about humidity. That’s more important for tropical carnivorous plants like Nepenthes. As long as Sarracenia are well watered it’s not very important.
Matt Hampel ok. I ask because majority are going brown (some not that old). I googled and lack of humidity seemed to be the main answer. Any ideas?!

Hello. I just bought my first Sarracenia from the shop.
Do you thunk I should fill the pitchers with the rain water?
late comment but yes, carnivorous plant only like rain or distilled water.
I'm using artificial light is that ok?
I dont have juices inside my plant at the leaf
Fill it with very low tds water
If it's a purpera then fill it up
Thanks for a great video. Does anyone know if distilled water is naturally acidic enough, or do I need to add something to lower the ph?
distilled is good enough, even filtered tap water (tried with normal tap water as well - NON-CHLORINATED, works just fine, doesn't work for Venus fly traps though)
@@funnyvideos-funnyoutloud2618 thanks!
Water doesn’t have to be acidic. The soil is acidic. Distilled; rain water and RO water will do fine.
Distilled or rain water works great
I’ve had mine for like two years now n sumhow I’ve kept it alive outside in sand and lava rock bowl. I think I might have to repot it.
