Nice track and fun to jam over, but it's G Mixolydian, not G major. Even though Mixolydian is a major mode, it's not the same as G major (ionian). It's in fact the in the key of ''C major''.

Thank you for your comment and thank you for playing along to my track! 👍😎
As for the terms "key" and "scale", this is how I understand and use them:
I think key and scale are two completely different concepts.
The key determines where the tonic is, i.e. the fundamental note. This track is in the key of G major, so the chord G major is the tonic, C major is the subdominant and D or D7 is the dominant or the dominant seventh chord.
The particular scale or scales that can be used in each case are something different. For example, with a 12-bar blues in the key of G major, you can play with the "G mixolydian" scale to the chord G major (or G7). The scale "G mixolydian" itself is created when you start on the 5th degree of the C major scale and only use notes from the (Ionian) C major scale.
On reinhold.tracks you will find many similar "Country Blues" tracks in all 12 major keys. The names of my tracks always indicate the key of the track and not the appropriate scale.
      ruclips.net/p/PLPY6Rb6f6GxSmppdYg3dSGDWMsR4XGQbW
For some other tracks I also offer suggestions for suitable scales in the video.
Or consider the track "Rock Chacha" in the key of A minor. The chords alternate between A minor and D major and you can easily improvise "Oye como va" using the A Dorian scale - which consists of the same notes as the G major scale, but starts on the 2nd degree, which is the note A.

Thank you again for your comment! I hope you continue to enjoy my tracks! Please check back from time to time! All the best!

@@reinholdtracks In fact, you are totally right, it's in the key of G Major and G is the tonic here, and you can indeed play G Mixolydian over the G chord.. my mistake here!
And don't worry, I understand music theory very well, including all modes.. I don't quite understand how I got confused with this track to be honest lol I even start to think that this comment wasn't even supposed to be posted here.. I think I had a few opened tabs with backing tracks, and actually left the comment on the wrong one!!! 🤣
Although, I think you got it confused here.
The ''key'' does not determine the tonic, it determines the ''notes'' (pitches).
It's the ''scale'' that determines the tonic.
When you start from a different note in a particular key, you do define the mode, but it also becomes a totally new scale/interval pattern.
It stays in that particular key because of the notes, but the tonic is defined by the starting pitch and the pattern of intervals that defines the mode/scale.
In the case of this track, the tonic (root note) is G (starting pitch), and the key is also G major (1st degree).. so the scale/mode is G Ionian.
      Or maybe you just mispoke?
Either way, doesn't really matter! thanks again for the track! 😊

Hi, I've just found your youtube channel & I really like your backing tracks...I'm doing a harmonica blues course online & for homework we were asked to find a backing track. I'm a beginner to all this stuff so would I have to pay to use your backing track or could I use it freely. I dont know anything about copyright etc. this would be for training purposes only. Many thanks & also for the great stuff your putting out there
