    I think if not feasible to use for whole period cycle, we can opt for it for partial time... During heavy bleeding days- disposable sanitary pads; normal or light bleeding days- reusable pads.
    At least some reduction on part of everyone of us. 😁

    I rarely comment on any videos.But i will now as i am so impressed with your way of spreading awareness . I have been using cotton pads for 6 months now though i didnot try soch pads yet i bought previous ones from different website . I am very happy. I started using them with the fact that I would like to conserve the nature and earth which is getting so much polluted by so many plastic pads used by billions of women world wide every single day..I am happy that I have changed my approach.Every women should know about better options available from plastic ones.. I loved your video. so informative and detailed. You are doing great work. i am subscribing 😊.

    Great video from your side Ishpreet to create awareness about female intimate hygiene and sustainable environment in a very elegant way..As a user of cloth pads I must say they r super comfortable unlike the disposable pads that cause rashes..Yes, I agree it gets tough to change and carry at work or during long journeys.So I suggest switch to these eco friendly pads and use the disposable ones when it’s not possible to use the cloth ones.. Last but not least there is nothing gross about washing the pad with ur own menstrual blood.. Stay free from the guilt of dumping lot of waste on this planet!!!

    Thank you for this video. have used reusable cloth menstrual pads for about 2.5 years now. In my case I made my own using a free pattern and tutorials from Amy Nix (via her Facebook group and RUclips channel). I use flannel on the top, a hidden full layer with the absorbent core sewn to it which is also made from flannel, a hidden full layer of PUL (polyeurothane) knit fabric which has a waterproof layer on 1 side to make it leak proof, and the bottom layer is made from cheap anti pill fleece. For closure I use plastic Kam snaps on the pad wings. They are very easy to use make and have used both new fabrics and upcycled fabrics from around my house. To transport I carry 2 small compact leak proof cosmetic bags, which I wash along with my pads (1 bag for clean pads, the other for soiled ones). Washing is very simple. To avoid stains I rinse right away (if at home) or as soon as I get home. I store the pads in a leak proof container filled with water with oxi clean dissolved in the water. To wash, I simply run one rinse cycle first, then fill the washer tub with water for another rinse cycle and add 2 tablespoons of bleach (specifically the kind that kills 99.9% of bacteria) and leave the washer lid up to let the pads soak for 8 hours or overnight. Then in the morning I let rinse cycle finish. Then I add detergent and run 1 regular wash cycle in hot water. After which I put more clothing and laundry in the washer for a second regular wash cycle followed by going into the dryer. It sounds very intensive but it's actually not once you get used to it and since I do this overnight and first thing in the morning as I start my day, it barely takes any time. For those who don't want such an involved routine, simply put the pads through 1 regular wash cycle with hot water and this will be sufficient. This is just my personal preference for sanitization and to prevent/ minimize stains. Even with stains, the cloth pads are still sanitary after washing! This is just my personal preference.

      When we go out,Can we use wet bags to put used cloth pads?

  • @parulbansal2637
    @parulbansal2637 6 лет назад +5

    I totally agree with the cotton fabric and environment friendly part but these don't seem to be practical for several reasons: Soaking and washing them, u need around 5 pads per day so in case you are working, u have to bring these back to wash which means carrying around 2-3 (first clean then dirty) pads in bag and after coming to home when u wash them and wait till next morning to dry them in sunlight, u would need another 5 pads for that day as well! So one needs to own atleast 10-12 such pads. Also, cleaning can be handled but drying them out in open is not easily possible. just a thought..

    • @PriyankaNJain
      @PriyankaNJain 6 лет назад

      yes, you will need around 10-12 pads, but then these pads will last you for 4-6 years.. you can also tumble dry them in washing machine in low heat setting.

      For those using the menstrual cup they act as panty liners to catch the overflow on the heaviest days. Otherwise as suggested they can be used on the last 2 days when there's only spotting and you don't feel like having a drynet pad giving you rashes.

    I have used cloth pads it very difficult to hide them in front of our family after washing secondly these pads are not good to absorb period clots and mucus . They make rashes and acne specially in summer. And let me tell u that most of our local village women are using these pads and want to get away from them. The best is menstrual cups . One cup lasts upto 15 years. New technology is for our use and we should admire it by using it not by going again backword.

As a medical student i knew the pros and cons of using disposable pads but i dint have any option since i dint know of these products... So i guess the knowledge of these products should be spread otherwise even though people wanting to stop using disposable pads would not do so since they dont know of these products available in the market as an alternative.... This video is very informative.. But I personally don't like the idea of reusable pads.. I mean who hv this extra time to wash these stained pads.. One have to sock for 20 mins before washing.. The container in which it will be saoked will get dirty.. I even can't even think of washing a pad.. But the leak proof panty is just awesome.. It will protect from unwanted stains, and one can feel free at the time of menstrual cycle with this leak proof panty..

    Machine wash will destroy the absorbent in cloth pads. Waste of money!
    How will you store the blood stained pads till the time you reach home from work.. Won't it stink?

    • @sunderkaur4358
      @sunderkaur4358 6 лет назад +12

      Apoorva Shenoy Exactly!
      Isn't one supposed to change pads after 4-5 hours? Do they not know normal working hours are 6-8 hours + commute? Should one carry the heavily blooded pads with them then? These are meant for women who just stay at home!

    • @vaishnavimiriyala2382
      @vaishnavimiriyala2382 6 лет назад +11

      Apoorva Shenoy You can store them in a dry place... That way, they won't stink. After you reach home, soak them all night and then wash them in the morning. I don't know correctly, but there are certain settings in a washing machine under which you can wash the clothpad so that it will stay intact for a long time. There are videos available on youtube to show how to wash them in a machine. And also, if you are a working woman, there is something called a dry bag which is made up of a material through which the pads won't stink. So you can just put your used pads in that bag and just store it in your handbag. And moreover, you'll mostly change 1-2 times a day, when you're at work. So it won't occupy a lot of space either.

      All have a valid point here Actually, this is equally new as a thought to consider just like menstrual cup. So the skeptical view is definite to come. Thanks Vaishnavi Miriyala for the info but I feel, soaking overnight can be a problem for many. Many resorted to pads from cloth due to efficiency and non washing or soaking. Having a shift again in mindset and actions will take a gradual time. :)

They are washable & each lasts for at least 1 year,or longer. I am in the USA & use these in the hospitals, as the plastic & rubber pads used to protect the beds were not doing a very good job, & the patients were getting skin breakdowns & rashes from them

    Very useful info...bt the only inconvenient thing is how to store d used pads for washing! especially during long working hours....

    • @PriyankaNJain
      @PriyankaNJain 6 лет назад +1

      you can fold the pad with the help of snap button (so the blood is inside) it will not leak as all the blood is absorbed very well on the inside layer. then you can keep in any plastic zip lock bag or travel leak proof bags that come for this purpose. when you reach home, soak the pad in cold soapy water for 2-8 hours, all blood will come out. then wash like you wash your underwear - machine or by hand.
