Definitely not; i really loved it. Some of the shots are amazing, and i thought the transitions from CG backgrounds in the wide landscape shots transitioned really well with the closer sets. I love the art direction too. Colors are eerie, yet vibrant.
@@thegoldencross2004 Because you know when you watch these movies (the godzilla universe) that there is going to be just mindless fun and monsters fighting each other. That’s why i am looking forward on Godzilla vs Kong.
"... another property trying to be Marvel." Oh, Chris... Godzilla and his kaiju friends had a shared universe before shared universes were even a thing. Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, Varan, etc. all had solo outings and then everyone got together in 1968's "Destroy All Monsters" to trash several world cities before teaming up to kick King Ghidorah's golden ass. This was eons before Marvel.
ajarrigo3 you're absolutely right including the Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolf Man, Invisible Man universe that was around in the 30's or 40's. I was born in the early 80's but I was raised on both of these cinematic universes
Good point on the shared universe. I'm still looking forward to this movie and others within that universe. I happened to love the last Godzilla movie. These movies are about the monsters and the action. I could really care less about the human characters. In fact, I wouldn't mind seeing a movie without human interaction.
"Another studio trying to be Marvel." Sorry, have to disagree. The Toho monsterverse was 20-odd movies in whilst the Avengers were still in plastic sleeves on comic store shelves. They are re-booting the Toho monsterverse.
Dude I was going to say the same exact thing. Idk why he said they are trying to be like the MCU when Kong VS Godzilla happened many years ago in many different movies.
@Ethan Hammons Probably the same people expecting realism in a movie about a giant ape... Also...it is quite possible to walk through Jungle for days without a scratch. You do know people live in jungles, right?
@Ethan Hammons Could you possibly be more ridiculous at making negative comments about the film that are the same? It’s obvious that this movie isn’t a cash grab, and they tried to make this movie great. And it was. You need to knock this shit off, and stop being a dick.
Guys just see it for yourself, don't be a sheep and just "accept" that it's a dissapointment, if you had an interest to see it, then do and see if you agree with Chris. That's what makes opinions important, they belong exclusively to YOU.
I agree with Chris about the awful characters - you won't care about any of them...but KONG himself is freaking awesome and the action is great. My review on my channel is much more positive but Chris isn't wrong on a lot of his points...but I was able to forgive them because of GIANT APE FIGHTING MONSTERS.
actually, thats what makes opinions worthless and absolutely ignorable and delightfully crushable, because they belong to YOU, anyonE... ANYONE can have an opinion on anything, opinions are jsut a response, and are to be ignored
The cinematography, action and sound design are amazing. If they just focused on Jackson and OReilly as the main character, it could be a legitimate classic
@@MarValProductions Also I think the old tribe as its self was a good character. And I think he missed some point on brie's character as she didnt just take photos. It was shown she was anti war and pro environment and this shows in her character after jackson tried attacking kong. So 4 good character and tons of kong in battle. Also another thing I'll add I think they done well bringing live to skull island from all the random creatures to the tribe. I think this was at least a B and I think chris overjudged this one a bit to much.
Did Chris grow up with everything? "Guys I grew up with King Kong" "I grew up with Spider-Man" "I wanted to be Kevin when I was a kid" EDIT: Jesus all you hoes takin this so seriously. I was just giving some examples. I'm not "hating on Chris". I'm making a joke. Stop getting your panties in a bundle and lighten up. EDIT #2: Just wanted to make sure all you people know that I love Chris and he's definitely one of my favorite RUclipsrs. Anyway, carry on.
There was a movie called ants in the 40s with giant ants, and it was pretty good and awesome for the time, it's pretty good and I watched it all the time on vhs at my grandma's house.
I went in expecting a Pacific Rim Monster movie, and thats what I feel like I got. I didn't expect good characters or script just a ton of action, and it definitely delivered.
I mean, you would be right, if only the movie wasn't telling us that we should care for these characters. They obviously spent a lot of time trying to make us feel connected to them, but like Chris says, the characters were very shallow. At least in Pacific Rim we see why the characters do the things that they do and we believe it. I still liked Kong btw.
@Cancer Itself185 not gonna lie, this movie had more interesting character than the godzilla movie, which is why after rewatching godzilla, kong skull island, and Godzilla king of the monsters I came to the conclusion kong skull island was the better of all three.
The action is fantastic yes but Hiddleston and Sam Jackson are really not charismatic at all. They once again wasted great actors with no fun dialogue.
@@bastianpalma5609 I agree! Peter Jackson's King Kong is an underrated masterpiece! Yes, it isn't perfect. A lot of the action scenes are far too long and the potrait of the natives as zombies was entertaining but a little bit tone deaf. A more sympathetic rendition would've been more adequate - especially since the natives are only important because they decide to abduct Ann in order to sacrifice her. And one cannot really blame them for trying to save their own girl! Their life is hard enough as it is. And Peter Jackson decided to spare them Kong's rampage and destruction of their village when he goes after Ann and Jack! But everything else about Peter Jackson's Kong is just fantastic. The visuals and CGI have aged really well! Andy Serkis' motion captured Kong is the gold Standard now and way better than Skull Island's 100% GGI incarnation. That newest big ape is actually far too big, which hinders the communication between ape and men/women: Brie Larson looks like a tiny dwarf hamster in Kong's hand. It's astonishing that this Kong even bothers to care for this tiny insignificant species. Peter Jackson tells a wonderful oldfashioned story and it has many characters to root for. As far as "Kong: Skull Island" ist concerned: Chris is right when he says that there aren't many characters we can care about. But I liked the movie much more than Chris! It looks good, has a great if underused cast and a great soundtrack! I would've liked a better script, more character development, more involvement of the natives and their history - and better creatures as antagonists! Except for the cool name I really disliked the Design of the skull crawlers. Somehow they didn't make any sense to me, and they weren't very intelligent, either. But despite these flaws the movie was very entertaining. It would've probably been better if it had been a bit longer in order to develop the characters and the narrative a bit better. We have three movies now in the Legendary Universe - and personally I like "Kong: Skull Island" best while the first "Godzilla" movie comes in a close second. I really disliked the second "Godzilla" movie, though. The kaijus looked good but the story was absolutely forgettable. It may be just me - but I do care about a good storyline and well developed characters. Even if it's just a pop-corn-summertime-flick 😉 I don't have high hopes for the upcoming sequel "Godzilla vs. Kong". Legendary's Kong was already too big for my taste in his first outing. But it has been implied that he was still a juvenile in the 1970s and his growth wasn't finished! In order to be able to fight other kaijus he needs to become even bigger - and that will make him even less relatable. Oh well - who knows when we will actually see this movie! Corona has had a big impact on the movie industry, too - and the world has far more pressing problems right now than the size of an imaginary ape!
@@sabineb.5616 I'm glad you enjoyed that movie but it's not even close to being called a masterpiece, a term that needs to be used WAY less often. If you think it's underrated that's fine, but calling it a masterpiece is a stretch.
Saw this at a prescreening yesterday and please, please do not listen to Chris if you were interested in this movie. The movie is very entertaining and my whole theater laughed at all the scenes that were supposed to be funny and were generally scared when stuff happened. Not a perfect film, but a hell of a fun time!
The main stream audience will definitely love this movie. Chris was at an early screening probably filled with cynical critics. Also, I love how Chris complains about shallow characters, and yet most of the characters in Godzilla 2014 were extremely shallow and you barely saw Godzilla himself. Yet he gave that movie an A-.
Well personally I love that Godzilla movie, but that's another story haha. Anyway, your probably right about the screening being filled with cynical critics. My theater was full of people that came for a good time, which is what they got.
Man, I could not disagree with you any more on this film lol It's soooo good. I'd like to see you revisit these movies another time and see if your opinions on them have changed at all. Some of the shots in this movie are absolutely breathtaking, the creature/world design is incredible, the humor got a few good laughs out of me, and I felt more for these characters than the ones in Godzilla. They weren't as deep, but they were more likeable in my opinion. And I like that most of them were expendable, made it so that any of them could die at any time, and so they're able to kill off anyone when your guard is down. I'm so excited for Godzilla vs Kong now!
@Ethan Hammons No it didn’t. It’s obvious they tried to make Kong Skull Island good. And it is great. Despite what Chris said, Kong Skull Island was one of the best movies of that year.
@Ethan Hammons How many times are you going to copy and paste this comment under literally every comment saying something even remotely positive about this film my guy.
@Ethan Hammons Right now, you’re being absolutely ridiculous, because you are literally saying the same comment to a lot of comments saying positive things about the movie. And you have really annoyed like several people you replied to. Go see for yourself. And if you actually think they didn’t care to make the movie good, go ask the people who made it and ask them. A lot of people enjoyed the film. If they didn’t care, then nobody would have liked it.
Weird its a WB movie and every actor in this movie is in/Part of the MCU.. Sam Jackson/Nick Fury Tom Hiddelston/Loki Brie Larson/Captain Marvel That one funny guy/Nova corps from GOTG Tobey Kibble/Dr.Doom.
Not trying to spoil anything, but I honestly don't how Chris could scoff at the after credit scene. If you're a Godzilla fan at all it's nothing but awesome.
That the movie is essentially split into two parts, forcing you to sit through a roll of credits you don't give a fuck about, also probably while fighting very hard for your bladder not to explode.
I don't think he understood the whole point of this movie. It is supposed to be something that can fit within the same world as Godzilla, a world about giant monsters beating each other up. If he was going in comparing this to other King Kong movies, then he totally missed the point. These are going to be movies about giant monsters fighting each other. In the best of these types of movies, the human characters are just there to advance the plot, and ideally be brisk and entertaining. This was a movie more meant to appeal to Kaiju fans. A Kaiju fan he clearly is not!
Dude, you have missed the point of the movie, when you were a kid and watched the early Kong movie over and over again was it because of the human characters? .... No, it was because you wanted to see Kong tear sh*t up. This is a Monster movie.
DTN8 well said!! I'm sure everyone going to see KONG skull island are expecting a deep character building movie, fuck off give me a break. Monsters and Kong tearing shit up is what most of the people are here for.
Expect films aren't geared towards one specific audience. The greatest films tend to attract a wide diverse audience who are interested in completely different things.
another studio trying to be like marvel? Godzilla 1954, godzilla raids again 1955 rodan 1956 mothra 1961 king kong vs godzilla 1962 godzilla vs mothra 1964 ghidorah the three headed monster 1964 (featuring godzill, mothra and rodan) so tell me again how a universe set up with loads of different giant monsters from different movies coming together into one movie is copying marvel? marvel copied ToHo. toho gave legendary the rights to make these godzilla movies. universal gave WB the rights to kong. because thye were inspired by the previous work ToHo did. not marvel. So shut up with coping marvel bollocks.
Guys, this is just a review - watch the movie for yourselves and decide whether you like it or not. Chris disliked The Amazing Spiderman strongly but I personally liked it, and I am sure there are those who did - we do not always have to agree. Good work as usual, Chris. I am still excited to see this film though.
Timliu92 Agreed. This was the only review I watched before seeing the films 80% on RT. A bit sad that Chris didn't really like it, but I'm still going to see it, opening day to make up my own mind... Wish some other people would do the same.
DeAth GaMing Wanting a movie to fail, critically, even if it's good? Are you suggesting that we force all critics to hate the movie? That's how we get shills and corrupt critics.
Chris is my favorite movie critic of all time and it’s OK to disagree with him that doesn’t mean we dislike him but I agree. I don’t think it’s fair to hold this movie is the human characters to the standards of the Godfather where we need everyone flushed out. It’s a giant monster movie. Chris himself admitted at the beginning how much he loved King Kong versus Godzilla so he knows as a fan of these movies no one really gives a shit about the humans. If you’re going into these movies expecting 14 characters to have been flushed out fully, I’m sorry that’s just not a good monster movie. What was all of our problem with the first Godzilla movie? They spent way too much damn time on the humans and their problems. Yes I like my characters flushed out and I want to hear about their problems.... in every other movie but the monster movies! But I was actually shocked that Chris didn’t like the way this movie looked I thought this movie looked great as far as how the island looked I didn’t get any shitty CGI feeling at all. I think this came out too soon after rogue One and whatever rogue One did to Chris completely took the fun out of the big block Buster movies for him.
I think Chris got too harsh on this movie. I thought this movie was actaully good......lol Oh shit I'm a dumbass i actually rewatched it and now I think it's "ok" I've learned alot about film now that Ive watched lots of films this year.......
I don't agree with Chris on this one. I really enjoy this movie, I bought in on Blu--ray and its looks amazing on TV. Its not a academy award movie but its a good watch.
Twrite609 I just watched it and I agree with Chris. This movie was bad man, the tone was all over the place. The soundtrack didn't fit. The characters didn't look like they had any idea what they were actually reacting to. The green screen was terribly obvious. The script was stunted and uninspired. I laughed at maybe 2 jokes of the probably 150 there were.... this is one mega botched film. The only way you could call it "good" is in the most shallow way ever, the 3D modellers and animators did a good job, that's it.
Popcorn. That's what it is. A popcorn movie. If you go in expecting Jane Ayre, you'll be disappointed. Eat your sugar, because this movie is just that, some sugar... enjoy.
I enjoyed the movie I thought it was decent, I’m noticing a trend with reviewers that grew up with Godzilla and Kong are overly harsh on these new movies.
If there's one thing I've learned about this movie it's that reviewers on RUclips consistently hated it, but I thought it was really awesome and badass. It's not a masterpiece by any means, but as a big dumb entertaining popcorn movie, it hits the spot. The great cast was probably underused, but they do get some nice moments to shine.
You see, I like comments like yours. Like you listen to people's opinions, but stand by your own. That's me with the Mortal Kombat movie, people hate the movie and I get the hate but at the same time though I enjoyed it. I personally didn't like Skull Island for pacing issues but hey just because I didn't like doesn't mean you shouldn't. You're not like thouse uptight butholes that say shit like "Oh I'm gonna unsubscribe to this guy because he didn't like the Movie".
Toho was the pioneers of cinematic universe fyi. First crossover movie ever was released 1964 godzilla vs. ghidorah. It was with mothra and rodan. Its marvel that copied toho not the other way around.
@@kristoferramirez1966 It doesn't matter who copied who. What matters is the MCU created a successful franchise that dominated the movie industry in its time, and it's completely undeniable that many films tried to branch off of their success by creating franchises themselves.
@@ragingshibe i dont care about that. Im just answering this guy's comment about the monsterverse copying marvel, when clearly its mcu who copied the monsterverse. Toho's monsterverse has been around since the 60's.
Your reviews are being a little bitcontradicting. Godzilla 2014: Less Godzilla, More character focused that was a negative for you Kong:Skull island : More kong, Less character focus is also a negative? The fuck?
I agree. I don't know about you, but I thought all of the characters in Mad Max Fury Road were bland since it focused on action and yet Chris gave that an A+.
Brian Boardwell In Mad Max the plot is centered around the apocaliptic world and its villains or people that got corrupted by it instead of the characters... but I get what you are saying.
He gave Godzilla an A- and this a C-. It's pretty clear which he thinks is better. His point in the Godzilla review was just that the overabundance of time devoted to the human characters was wasted in service of a cliche story about a young military guy trying to get back to his wife in the chaos like we've seen a million times before, and the writing and the acting in that though not terrible were very bland. I'm sure he would've praised that aspect a lot more if the story would have focused on Bryan Cranston's character the majority of the time instead because that would have been much more interesting. Either way you have to have good characters.
Saw it at a prescreening yesterday and it's a very entertaining movie. You can't really expect much from a film about a giant ape, but the movie takes this premise and plays it up with such flare. The action sequences will take your breath away, but the movie disappoints in that it wastes its spectacular cast. It's fun, but forgettable fare. Also STAY UNTIL AFTER THE CREDITS!!
DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU WANT THE END CREDITS REVEALED . . . . . The end credits scene involves the main characters in a MONARCH facility. They're told Kong is not the only monster out there and are then shown a slideshow of photos alluding to Godzilla, Mothra, and other creatures. The scene ends and the iconic roar of Godzilla is heard.
Chris... Chris... Chris... this is a KING KONG movie! As you said it's a movie about a giant ape fighting other giant monsters. This is not a movie meant to build characters and find the motivation behind each character and build a backstory on each character...Who Cares??? It's King Kong movie good old popcorn flick! You are getting way too serious on these movies including rogue one
well you have selective memory because back then people were saying that that movie was boring and had bland characters.....give it time im sure the same thing will happen
I don't understand the hate on this movie it was fun to watch. Its not Oscar worthy but what blockbuster monster movie is?? People should enjoy it for what it is, and I see it's mostly the big reviewers and critcs that have a gripe with it not the actual majority of people
Ofer Mizrahi kong has a 76% on rotten tomatoes its certified fresh also it has a 62 on imdb it's green so idc what chris says because no matter what he says it's certified and also the audiences liked it so it's considered good
Who the fuck goes into a giant monster fighting movie expecting a lot of depth? The movie isn't bad, you were just dumb and went into it with a wrong mind set.
Watch the original Godzilla 1954. Not a Blockbuster whatsoever. It is a dark and harrowing tale about the consequences of using Nuclear weapons. A monster film does not have to be hollow.
Yeah I really love this movie too. Since I sought in the theaters I bought the Blu-ray and have watched it about five times since the blu Ray Came out. I respect that Chris Holds movies to a high standard but when it comes to King Kong and Godzilla he has said it himself that he is a big fan of the old King Kong versus Godzilla movie but he doesn’t look at these new monster movies the same way that he looked at those. When it comes to Godzilla and King Kong no one buying A ticket to see this movie really gives two shits about the humans in the movie. I can still watch the old King Kong and Godzilla movies today and still have fun watching them because I don’t hold them to the same standard that I do movies like Star Wars, the dark Knight, tombstone, The Godfather , etc. these movies aren’t really supposed to be about the humans other than how do they deal with monsters in their world. I don’t care about the humans pastor if they have kids or not, the only thing we need to see is military personnel trying to figure out how to deal with the problem. Chris is one of my favorite movie critics and I love the guy and respect him so much but I don’t really think it’s fair to say they are trying to rip Marvel off. You just can’t compare the two universes . One is a connected universe filled with people and characters that we care about, the other is really just connected by the monsters that they all happen to be monsters on earth. No one goes to these movies thinking “remember that one military guy I can’t wait to see how he’s going to do in the next Godzilla movie!” No we don’t care. The people that are fans of King Kong and Godzilla are people very much like Chris that like all the old movies I think the only difference is we are not movie critics and once you become a movie critic you kind of end up holding every movie to the same standard whether it’s just a blockbuster Monster movie were all you want to do is watch them destroy shit or a serious drama with compelling characters. Some movies I really do want compelling characters and a deep storyline, But then there’s times I just want to go watch King Kong fight dinosaurs and eat popcorn and look at the big monster destroying things.
That makes no sense Just because people have different opinions then you doesn’t mean that you need to get upset because if you like the movie that’s fine but just because someone else doesn’t like it it doesn’t mean you gotta get something back on them Does that make sense?
@@BzFlix like how he loves star wars the last jedi so much he gave it an A, that movie was so boring, really ironic how he didnt hate anything about the movie lol
dws6x2 I think Rogue One is amazing! The Force Awakens wasnt a disappointment for me because I didnt have good expectations of it... And It ended up exceeding my expectations by a long shot! It think both are awesome but Rogue One takes the Cake without putting that much of a fight.
didn't people say godzilla sucked bc they focused on characters and not godzilla. so now that they listen and say fuck making the characters a major part of the story and just focus on the monster it still sucks. yep.....still gonna see it and this dude is to knit pickey anyway. take my 2 cents how u wanna.
STURGOD BLADES & SMITHING Inc. Godzilla focused on the characters instead of Godzilla, which is a problem because the characters were all boring as fuck.
The amount of hate is ridiculous. Chris is a great reviewer because he wants every movie to be great and objectively holds them to the same standard. Chris has made it clear he wants a focused movie and fleshed characters in every movie. Accusing him of being critical of a movie that failed the main criteria is absurd. This is a fair review whether or not you agree. It's okay to have a different opinion.
if u think its hate u dont know youtube comment section. we r kaiju fans and chris said himself that he watched those stupid monster movies so many times these movies r fun experience for kaiju fans and how many times u think u can watch moonlight. I also like good movies but u cant judge every movie under same lens which shows when he puts out his top 10 list even when some has low grades they still tops the list just because of entertainment factor....all n all its hypocritical of him
lelabotoxique I really dig that you phrased it as a disagreement, as opposed to saying he's flat-out wrong. No sarcasm, it's a nice deviation from the moderate amount of comments stating he's incorrect as indisputable fact. Kudos to you, good sir or madam
Some movies I'll watch when I want a good story, then others I watch when I just want spectacle. The CGI of the monsterverse movies is exactly the spectacle I've craved for a long time. I'm starting to wonder if I should watch the Planet of the Apes movies, see how those ones fair.
I liked Rogue One's characters. They are not supposed to be super developed. They are meant to be expendable. What made the movie great was the goal, setting, tension...
that's no excuse to make your characters boring and bland though, there are movies that characters died you gave a dam, you never felt that in rogue one.
Shadowraptor0092 -I also liked Rogue One, but I felt that the characters were garbage. And I do disagree with you; the characters are what drive the movie, not action set pieces and special effects. And yeah, you can enjoy the movie for being a dumb action movie (but also because Star Wars is FRICKING AWESOME), but if there are cardboard cutout characters, there's no depth and no maturity. Unlike the Empire Strikes Back, there is little substance in Rogue One, and that does impede many peoples' viewing experiences.
Collider, Beyond the Trailer, Jo Blo etc all gave it a positive review and it's at 81% on RTomatoes. I'm hyped. Chris is in the minority, and quite frankly, I know exactly what to expect with this film
+Shoaib Naqvi yeah, so far Kong has been far less divisive than Godzilla was. There are detractors, like Chris, but the overall consensus seem to lean more positive. I have not seen the movie yet, but will go as soon as I can. My priority is Logan, which opens in my country this weekend. I liked Godzilla though, and while I do have my share of problems with the movie (especially about the main lead), I strongly disagree with the opinions that they should show more of Godzilla and that there was too many focus on other creatures. I get why some people without much familiarity to the franchise would say that, but it was what I expected and hoped to get. And frankly from the previous American attempt at Godzilla I didn't have any confidence. So hearing less divisive stuff about Kong makes me even more confident that both franchises are in good hands, especially after knowing about the post credit scenes. But I do expect it to sufffer a lot in home box office. These kinds of movies just are not popular anymore in America, and with the exception of kaiju fans most people don't have the taste for this kind of feature (especially if we do get into more over the top stuff later on. I can't begin to imagine what the average moviegoer reaction will be if they decide to bring in MechaGodzilla or King Ghidorah at some point).
I'm super disappointed. Peter Jackson's King Kong is one of my favorite films... I was hoping for something similar, at least good and in the same universe. Oh well.
Tristan Films Did you like the '76 one? I thought it was good. But yeah, the '05 one was epic. The ending is one of the most emotional ones I've ever seen.
If you grew up with King Kong, where's the King Kong figures? You have Goku, because you grew up with Dragon Ball Z. GUYS I'M GETTING REALLY TRIGGERED RIGHT NOW. WHERE'S THE KING KONG TOYS??!
Gotta disagree completely. Love the movie, I've watched it 3 times. You are way to harsh with the review in this one. There were a good amount of entertaining people scenes and more great monster scenes than I can count on two hands. Every time a new creature popped up I was astounded. Characters were a lot better than the ones in the 2005 film and absolutely better than Godzilla 2014. I got emotionally invested in more than one character and I usually root for the monsters in films like this. Maybe not A+ material but in my opinion at least a B+
KrAff You gotta be fucking kidding me. better characters than the 2005 version??? I have no words. In King Kong there's the stereotypical photographer, the stereotypical rogue badass, the loose cannon and everyone else just dies. like seriously. i don't get it. i am baffled
Okay here's my gripe with every reviewer on YT. They complained about Godzilla not being around for much in his 2014 movie and the characters were pretty bland except for Bryan Cranston, but when this movie comes along and at least fucking attempts tries to do the opposite, people still complain. Like wtf? Kong was very prominent in the movie, like a shit ton more screen time than Godzilla. And at least when he wasn't there, there were the monsters of skull island, and they still had the indigenous people too. Look the characters were by no means perfect or mega interesting, but what if, crazy thought here wow, that was the fucking point. Probably in those 2 movies the humans are not exactly engaging is to give the engagement to the fucking monsters. Which Kong did well imo, better than godzilla at least. Like I said they at least tried to make the characters interesting in Kong. Bri Larson's character not so much, but Samuel L, John Goodman, John C Riley, and Tom Hiddleston were a lot of fun for me. And yes I get it its their opinion, but man dude, movies are at least trying to be fun instead of being dumb by taking themselves way too seriously, and people just complain. No one takes it for what it is, no one can have fucking fun anymore. The world just bitches now. Sorry Chris. Love ya tho. Now everyone can crucify me. Rant over.
big goofy action scenes are fine but if the characters are obvious placeholders for action to happen and they only have personality through their famous actors rather than writing, it becomes hard to really appreciate the movie as a whole. Kong works as a big picture movie but it's value dramatically decrease once people rewatch it at home. Giant monster movies for the most part are supposed to be camp and goofy to be honest so your point is very much true. I mean how many film essays are out there about Godzilla films being some masterpiece commentary on nuclear war? In the age of well done tv series and hit indie films, I think a portion of audiences want Hollywood (or the major film industry in general) to put more work into narrative and characters, rather than making visual showcases of how awesome their CGI studios are at big screen movie magic. I will go into Kong just to watch a him destory stuff but is it really complaining to not at least have good characters even if they have to be goofy. Is it too much to ask for memorable characters like in Jaws or Alien? Moments of actual levity instead of forced joking quips like marvel has done in their latest movies? Even if the characters are bland, they shouldn't be so obviously placeholders to the point of annoyance. It's not the serious tone that people complain about but rather how mainstream movies can't keep a consistent tone or have a basic story that actually engages the audience rather than acts as filler time.
Yeah you have a good point I getcha. But at least for me, kong still had memorable characters fresh in my mind, Samuel Jackson, John Goodman, and Tom Hiddleston in particular, even if I can't remember the names exactly. Just like the old kong and godzilla movies, I dont remember the human names cause all I care about are the monsters.
Dartist Softbrush they are quite good character actors which is way they're so memorable. It's just these actors get their big break in hollywood because they played characters that people remember and differentiate from the actors themselves so it's a bit dishearting to see the occasional movie where they're playing themselves because of bad scripts or doing a carbon copy of their past work.
People need to remember that despite being a critic, he's still an ordinary guy with his own opinion. He may have found the movie disappointing but that doesn't necessarily mean you will.
The male and female leads were dull and pointless but the rest of the human cast were pretty interesting, unlike the cast of Godzilla. This movie was far more fun and enjoyable.
That's why it's good to have character development though, so you actually feel something when they do go down and adds investment to what you're watching. Which I didn't feel at all watching this movie lol
Normally, I'll go to the movies and see it a second time at a later point. This one wasn't really the type of movie that needed a second viewing. It was honestly pretty bland outside of the action sequences, which I didn't even find to be very memorable. The only part of it that sticks out to me is the way the final fight ended, which is a bit of a blurry memory. I'm honestly not even going to bother getting the blu-ray. I thought it was good when I walked out of the theater, but the more I thought about it, the worse it got.
Shadow Broker Very fun flick, didn't fuck around, got right to the point. These people that were bored probably have the attention span of a fucking goldfish.
This is an older review and you can absolutely tell Chris has changed a bit since making it. I don't think Chris nowadays would have criticized Kong Skull Island as much as he did here. The characters were never the focus, we all knew that, nobody was expecting that. This was a popcorn action movie, and the characters were just some extra glue to give it some coherence.
Nobody going to watch this movie for the characters we just want to see kong fighting monsters . Don't listen to this guy go watch the movie for yourselves because it's one hell of a ride.
Brandon Roberts A movie with good characters will always be better. Even if you go for the action. It's the difference between mindless action and action with stakes.
You know, this is Chris's opinion and I always gonna respect his opinion that's the reason I watch him, I'm going to see Skull Island and make my own opinion and that's it. Love you Chris greetings from Mexico. P.D. You look like a young AJ Styles, but skiny.
I actually thought that the movie was complete shit too. I mean when you go watch it, concentrate on the 'character scenes' compared to the 'action scenes' you kinda start to realise that the actions scenes are really the only good part of the movie and the character scenes (which is most of the movie) sucks asssss
yeah man I kinda understand you, and I even felt more shit things in the movie, oh well i wasn't expecting Kong being better than Godzilla and I was right. Sorry bad english
Dude holy shit, this isn't Lord of the Rings or Star Wars where every single character is given a rich back story and loads of screen time. This is supposed to be a mindless monster movie, with the focus on Kong, not Hiddleston or Larson. I know this is just your honest opinion, but seriously man, lighten up.
And also, we get it, Hollywood is bringing back a lot of stuff that was around when you were growing up. Please stop saying, "Look guys, I grew up with [insert property/franchise here]." It's getting old and annoying man.
Marco Poblano, i agree with everything you just said, in both of your comments.I dont know why movies cant be mindless and a fun time, with some funny moments.I am also getting sick of Stuckmanns i grew up with this crap, he does this with Marvel and Dc and i think its really pretentious.I think the more of this pretentious look at me i love movie shit is going to lose him alot of subs, personally it is really disconnecting me from his channel.
i mean predators characters had no development, alien and aliens had very little, with monster movies are you really there to see character back stories or are you there for the monster, look at godzilla way too much time was spent developing the characters
I always found the appeal in Monster movies in the Monsters themselfs, but I also wanted good characters to go up against them. Unless the Monster is sympathetic.
Jonathan Walton I like Jeremy jahns because he is like your average audience member who doesn't get too critical and walks in the theater to have a good time and not examine the movie under a microscope
theres something called a "middle point" ever heard of that shit? Would you rather have a guy telling honestly how he feels about a film or lie to you?
What you think the characters ACTUALLY have depth to them??? You telling me you can actually remember who they were? What makes them "interesting"? Is that what you are saying? King Kong had a couple of good scenes, but honestly THAT was probably the only good thing about this movie. And maybe Samuel L Jack and John C Reily characters. Other than that, the other characters were just blank slates and not memerable. This movie could not be taken seriously
@@jobbe7545 I gotcha, it was entertaining for sure and good for you for sticking to your own opinion (no sarcasm). My issue is that the movie was too light hearted compared to the Peter Jackson film or the one from the 70s. Like those movies Actually provide some form of thriller and have characters with actual personality to where you actually care about these characters. This movie was just too goofy to where I couldn't take it seriously and the characters were so bland that even Belle from Twilight has more personality than they do. The only thing that was good that I liked was the monster fight. That's the only thing that was good. Other than that, the rating this guy gave the movie was actually fair. Or least in my opinion.
Keep in mind this is the same guy that gave Sleepless a B, Iron Man 3 a B+, Thor Dark World a B+, Age of Ultron a B+, and Mechanic Resurrection a B. This isn't the first time he's been off on a review. And it wont be the last.
The Mother Flickers I didn't realize having a different opinion was equivalent to being incorrect, seeing as how that's the point of having opinions...
I don't subscribe to him and watch his reviews because I hope he'll agree with me. This idea that every critic needs to be in alignment with the general consensus is driving me mad. (I really liked Iron Man 3 BTW, because opinions are like booty holes.)
So, you grew up with King Kong movies, and when it comes to shared movie universe all you can think of is Marvel? I know what you are trying to say but can you say it without sounding like a Marvel fanboy or can you Google Toho Showa Universe which predates Marvel by 54 years?
A- Day I went into this movie thinking the characters were going to be boring because of Stuckmann and Jahn's reviews but I didn't really mind them. John C Reilly's character was definitely my favorite. I think the humor worked for the most part. The people in my theater were laughing anyways. The dialogue did kind of suck at times though. Other than that all the scenes with Kong were badass and fun to watch
Have to agree with most of the comments I’m seeing here. One of if not THE best of this new series. Character motivations hit, even the secondary characters with a bit of a Moby Dick influence. A decent modern spectacle worth anyone’s while.
JeehoonOh Cause all they care about is the characters, not the actions/drama. If the characters *only* the characters are bad, then RUclips reviewers could say the whole movie is bad.
I usually agree with Chris on most things, but Rogue One was fucking amazing and you need to re-watch it, man. Maybe after multiple viewings, it'll shift your your perspective.
i thought he liked rogue one.... hell, i thought that characters were fine for the ones that actually mattered. and i'm not even a star wars superfan or any shit like that.
Sean Seaphan remember also, this is the guy who talked about originality in his cure for wellness review, but was ranting about not enough vader in his rogue one review XD
Sean Seaphan Rouge one character were hollowed as hell. Most people could agree that nobody give a shit about Jin or whatever the other rebel name is. The movie only got good rating because it Star Wars.
Saw an early screening and I agree with everything Chris said. The 30% of the time Kong is on screen, it's decent. The other 70% is a jumbled mess. Also, in parts of the movie I felt like the director thought he was Shane Black. He is not Shane Black.
It's Black's unexpected comedy in conventional dramatic moments (think "Prodigal Son Returns" moment from Iron Man 3). This movie tries to do that and it totally screws with the tone.
7/10 for me. Definitely had flaws; there were too many characters in the beginning, it can be a bit slow and boring and it’s a generic story but I love the visuals, the action with the monsters was really exciting, I liked how Kong was an actual character (unlike Godzilla in 2014), Samuel L Jackson and John C Reilly were entertaining and were decent characters and it’s nice how the movie doesn’t treat the deaths like it’s nothing even if we don’t care too much about the characters
Let me guess, Chris grew up with Kong
Cat Kubick Haha, Chris grew up with everything
Cat Kubick - Yeah he was born in 1933 didn't you know that lol...

that said i still love this channel
I loved how Kong shows up in the very beginning smashing helicopters. Instead of making us wait forever. Caught me off guard in a good way.
Something Clever exactly
I liked the waiting
Wow dude apparently nobody can have their own opinions. I mean I don’t like this movie but cmon
la pelicula es muy mala. the movie is BAD
I wanted to at least be okay with it. I wasn’t.
am i the only one how really liked some of cinematography in this movie???
Definitely not; i really loved it. Some of the shots are amazing, and i thought the transitions from CG backgrounds in the wide landscape shots transitioned really well with the closer sets. I love the art direction too. Colors are eerie, yet vibrant.
+Fred26 You did not look at the comments section, did you...
Yeah - but the style was ripped out of Apocalypse Now
Fred I loved this and all of the monsterverse including the new one
I thought the movie was amazing, hell even the rotten tomatoes score isn't bad at all. I waited so long to watch it and I was not disappointed.
Don’t ask me why but I really enjoyed this film
... Why?
@@thegoldencross2004 Because you know when you watch these movies (the godzilla universe) that there is going to be just mindless fun and monsters fighting each other. That’s why i am looking forward on Godzilla vs Kong.
@@yuampi5707 no I enjoyed the movie too, I actually enjoy everything Kong related. You just said "Don't ask me why" so i then asked "...why"
Same here I liked this movie it was pretty good
I really liked it as well, the action scenes were good and the lizard creatures had a good design
"... another property trying to be Marvel."
Oh, Chris...
In fact, I wouldn't mind seeing a movie without human interaction.
ajarrigo3 Godzilla is the real OG
He's a marvel dick fan
yeah, but this time it's more corporate and more structured and tighly knit.
"Another studio trying to be Marvel."
Sorry, have to disagree. The Toho monsterverse was 20-odd movies in whilst the Avengers were still in plastic sleeves on comic store shelves.
They are re-booting the Toho monsterverse.
Bothered me that he said that too. He also includes a clip from the 1962 Kong vs. Godzilla
Dude I was going to say the same exact thing. Idk why he said they are trying to be like the MCU when Kong VS Godzilla happened many years ago in many different movies.
You fail to understand
@Ethan Hammons Probably the same people expecting realism in a movie about a giant ape...
Also...it is quite possible to walk through Jungle for days without a scratch. You do know people live in jungles, right?
Tom hiddleston killed 3 men in a bar with a pool stick.....a fucking pool stick

I'm not gonna lie i gave both "Godzilla" & "Kong: skull island" 5 out of 5 stars. They are both EPIC!!!
TRUEEEEEEEEEE
@Ethan Hammons Could you possibly be more ridiculous at making negative comments about the film that are the same? It’s obvious that this movie isn’t a cash grab, and they tried to make this movie great. And it was. You need to knock this shit off, and stop being a dick.
I honestly hate godzilla 2014 but I see where your coming from! And i respect it
Same, i give kong skull island a 5..... Out of 10. But godzilla is good tho, a solid 7
Guys just see it for yourself, don't be a sheep and just "accept" that it's a dissapointment, if you had an interest to see it, then do and see if you agree with Chris. That's what makes opinions important, they belong exclusively to YOU.
It's just a money saver
I agree with Chris about the awful characters - you won't care about any of them...but KONG himself is freaking awesome and the action is great. My review on my channel is much more positive but Chris isn't wrong on a lot of his points...but I was able to forgive them because of GIANT APE FIGHTING MONSTERS.
actually, thats what makes opinions worthless and absolutely ignorable and delightfully crushable, because they belong to YOU, anyonE... ANYONE can have an opinion on anything, opinions are jsut a response, and are to be ignored
Damn Dormammu... I came to bargain, not to hear you preach...
Dormammu For me, I don't have much money, so I tend to go for multiple reviews before I see a movie.
As each day passes Chris Stuckmann hates Rogue One more and more.
someone already has that username because there's so much to hate
someone already has that username I don't think he hates it but i mean c'mon, the characters were extremely bland in Rogue One
Samuel Pierce Oh please. The movie was great. Chris is just pissy that everyone liked it more than TFA
agree with you bro.
Chris just wanted more of the same from a movie that was a standalone star wars film.
I loved the way the film looked.
The color schemes were a breath of fresh air from the grayscaled action movies we mostly see today
Ummmmmm I love this movie
Me too, didn’t watch it for the characters. I just came for the action scenes and it was beautiful.
And ?
@@themadclown4077 Brie's character was okay. But yes. Skull island was well realized. The fact that they shot a lot on location was pretty great!

I mean, you would be right, if only the movie wasn't telling us that we should care for these characters. At least in Pacific Rim we see why the characters do the things that they do and we believe it.

@Cancer Itself185 not gonna lie, this movie had more interesting character than the godzilla movie, which is why after rewatching godzilla, kong skull island, and Godzilla king of the monsters I came to the conclusion kong skull island was the better of all three.
I do
The action is fantastic yes but Hiddleston and Sam Jackson are really not charismatic at all. They once again wasted great actors with no fun dialogue.
I'm just glad that he said he enjoyed Peter Jackson's King Kong :)
My absolute favorite Kong movie
Even if it's just a pop-corn-summertime-flick 😉
I don't have high hopes for the upcoming sequel "Godzilla vs.
I mean who doesn't enjoy that movie?
Saw this at a prescreening yesterday and please, please do not listen to Chris if you were interested in this movie. The movie is very entertaining and my whole theater laughed at all the scenes that were supposed to be funny and were generally scared when stuff happened. Not a perfect film, but a hell of a fun time!
MOVIE MANIACS I kinda figured, I don't expect a award winning piece of film dealing with King Kong, just some badass action scenes..
And trust me, it delivers big time. Hope you enjoy it once it gets released next week.
My theater was full of people that came for a good time, which is what they got.
yep, i'm looking forward the fun even though the characters.... i hope i find them at least good enough
Man, I could not disagree with you any more on this film lol
It's soooo good.
You gotta decide if you felt for them or if you think they are expendable. And having expendable characters is never good.
I have yet to see Godzilla vs Kong. But man, Kong Skull Island is sooo good. It did have good characters.

That the movie is essentially split into two parts, forcing you to sit through a roll of credits you don't give a fuck about, also probably while fighting very hard for your bladder not to explode.
yarpen26 ????
I don't think he understood the whole point of this movie. It is supposed to be something that can fit within the same world as Godzilla, a world about giant monsters beating each other up. If he was going in comparing this to other King Kong movies, then he totally missed the point. These are going to be movies about giant monsters fighting each other. In the best of these types of movies, the human characters are just there to advance the plot, and ideally be brisk and entertaining. This was a movie more meant to appeal to Kaiju fans. A Kaiju fan he clearly is not!
For once I disagree completely ! This movie was exactly what it was intended to be a big FUN popcorn movie nothing more and nothing less, I loved it !
Dude, you have missed the point of the movie, when you were a kid and watched the early Kong movie over and over again was it because of the human characters? .... No, it was because you wanted to see Kong tear sh*t up. This is a Monster movie.
Which is fine, except it seems like a waste of that cast.
Which is fine when the focus is on the monsters, mayhem, and fights, ala Pacific Rim.

Good work as usual, Chris. I am still excited to see this film though.
This guy gets it! But i disagree what Chris is saying here.
Timliu92 Agreed. This was the only review I watched before seeing the films 80% on RT. A bit sad that Chris didn't really like it, but I'm still going to see it, opening day to make up my own mind... Wish some other people would do the same.
SimonBRUH8217... again i wish all other people hate this movie as Chris do.
DeAth GaMing Wanting a movie to fail, critically, even if it's good? Are you suggesting that we force all critics to hate the movie? That's how we get shills and corrupt critics.
Timliu92 Same goes for me. I mean the Rogue One characters are forgettable? Yeah if you weren't paying attention.
For me this movie was amazing. Really entertaining! Will watch it again. Chris i think you watched the wrong movie xD

I just watched it and I agree with Chris.
Yeah. Too Much Harsh!!!
One sentence: I Love this movie!!!
It has cool actions, lot actions, monster scenes, fights. Tones and characters were cool.

Kong destroys everything...it was exactly what I wanted. So I’ve gotta disagree with you Chris...sorry.

Studio: Tries to set up a Cinematic Universe
People: OMG THEY ARE JUST COPYING MARVEL AHHHHHH

Godzilla 2014: Less Godzilla, More character focused that was a negative for you
Kong:Skull island : More kong, Less character focus is also a negative?
The fuck?
I agree. I don't know about you, but I thought all of the characters in Mad Max Fury Road were bland since it focused on action and yet Chris gave that an A+.
Brian Boardwell In Mad Max the plot is centered around the apocaliptic world and its villains or people that got corrupted by it instead of the characters... but I get what you are saying.
i agree. I honestly hated Fury road because i didnt give a shit about any of the characters.
makyou man The thing with this movies is that what they have lots of are Fucked over by stupid mistakes and bad writing
Last time I was this early I was on time
The Bookofbaba I'm not the biggest fan of your book, 6/10
Ha
Saw it at a prescreening yesterday and it's a very entertaining movie. You can't really expect much from a film about a giant ape, but the movie takes this premise and plays it up with such flare. The action sequences will take your breath away, but the movie disappoints in that it wastes its spectacular cast. It's fun, but forgettable fare. Also STAY UNTIL AFTER THE CREDITS!!
it looks like a fun movie and thats abot it
I agree with Chris, the directing and editing are lacking. There were some weird janky editing choices made in the film.
What happened after the credits?

The end credits scene involves the main characters in a MONARCH facility. They're told Kong is not the only monster out there and are then shown a slideshow of photos alluding to Godzilla, Mothra, and other creatures. The scene ends and the iconic roar of Godzilla is heard.
Technically Godzilla had a universe before marvel did and a couple moives started a universe before marvel
Marvel came first but yes the monsterverse was made before the mcu.

Chris... Chris... Chris... this is a KING KONG movie! As you said it's a movie about a giant ape fighting other giant monsters. This is not a movie meant to build characters and find the motivation behind each character and build a backstory on each character...Who Cares??? It's King Kong movie good old popcorn flick! You are getting way too serious on these movies including rogue one
Angelo Pilato i totally agree with this
Angelo Pilato say that to King King 2005
I agree with you on Kong, but Rogue One's lack of well-rounded characters is an issue. An important factor to Star Wars are characters.
He ignored Shin Godzilla, but not this. For some reason.
well you have selective memory because back then people were saying that that movie was boring and had bland characters.....give it time im sure the same thing will happen
I don't understand the hate on this movie it was fun to watch. Its not Oscar worthy but what blockbuster monster movie is?? People should enjoy it for what it is, and I see it's mostly the big reviewers and critcs that have a gripe with it not the actual majority of people
It was not just fun, it was great. And there are very positive reviews for the film. Search them on Rotten Tomatoes.
BUt what if you can’t even have fun with it?
this is one of the rare few times that I disagree with Chris on a review
Brian Rose holy shit why did you write that much

Why is this such a big deal?
The amount of hate is ridiculous. Chris is a great reviewer because he wants every movie to be great and objectively holds them to the same standard. Chris has made it clear he wants a focused movie and fleshed characters in every movie. Accusing him of being critical of a movie that failed the main criteria is absurd. This is a fair review whether or not you agree. It's okay to have a different opinion.

Some movies I'll watch when I want a good story, then others I watch when I just want spectacle. The CGI of the monsterverse movies is exactly the spectacle I've craved for a long time. I'm starting to wonder if I should watch the Planet of the Apes movies, see how those ones fair.
The recent Planet of the Apes movies are great and not just because of the spectacle, the storytelling is legit
I hope i disagree with you
Albatraze We all do...
It's far less divisive than Godzilla, at the very least. I think things will be alright.
I liked Rogue One's characters. They are not supposed to be super developed. They are meant to be expendable. What made the movie great was the goal, setting, tension...
Shadowraptor0092 same, I cried when they all died honestly
Great characters, I liked Jin.
Shadowraptor0092 Lmao ever heard of saving Private Ryan? good characters make a film interesting especially when they get killed off
that's no excuse to make your characters boring and bland though, there are movies that characters died you gave a dam, you never felt that in rogue one.
Lets hope the cross over with Godzilla is better!
be your own judge when you see kong
The Poke'Saurus I said that with BvS
The Poke'Saurus I'd rather see a Godzilla/Cloverfield crossover.
One of the few reviews where Chris is way off from the majority of the audience.
I'm super disappointed. Peter Jackson's King Kong is one of my favorite films... I was hoping for something similar, at least good and in the same universe. Oh well.

KrAff The leads in 2005 had like an hour of development before they even got to the island
KrAff Same, I was actually upset when Chapman died
KrAff You gotta be fucking kidding me. better characters than the 2005 version??? I have no words. In King Kong there's the stereotypical photographer, the stereotypical rogue badass, the loose cannon and everyone else just dies. like seriously. i don't get it. i am baffled
"I grew up with this" - Every Chris Stuckmann review
It's not the serious tone that people complain about but rather how mainstream movies can't keep a consistent tone or have a basic story that actually engages the audience rather than acts as filler time.
hollywood movie feel more like big production commercials and showcases rather than art or genuine dumb spectacle.
It's just these actors get their big break in hollywood because they played characters that people remember and differentiate from the actors themselves so it's a bit dishearting to see the occasional movie where they're playing themselves because of bad scripts or doing a carbon copy of their past work.
ah very true. I definitely understand that point.
Dude, do you want the actors competing for the Oscars? This is about Kong.
-*Kind of oxymoron, you want character development but if you care too much you will hate they die.*
It's not lol
That's why it's good to have character development though, so you actually feel something when they do go down and adds investment to what you're watching. Which I didn't feel at all watching this movie lol
@@nelsdanburg5407 that's cuz you're pathetic
It's not a Stuckmann review without him having grown up with the film
Normally, I'll go to the movies and see it a second time at a later point. This one wasn't really the type of movie that needed a second viewing. It was honestly pretty bland outside of the action sequences, which I didn't even find to be very memorable. The only part of it that sticks out to me is the way the final fight ended, which is a bit of a blurry memory. I'm honestly not even going to bother getting the blu-ray. I thought it was good when I walked out of the theater, but the more I thought about it, the worse it got.

Sometimes Chris seems like the kind of person who sets his expectations on what HE wants to see, and not what the film is promising.

Blah Blah Marvel is the only one to do it successfully so far.
@Jack Jansen & Hal Jordan making more money from the idea doesn't make it your idea...
Blah Blah but wasn't it literally their idea?
Universal monsters and this Kong/Godzilla universe have just begun while the DCEU has been a failure so far so Chris isnt wrong.
Brandon Roberts then why have human characters at all?
+Riley Jones
To be expendable obviously. They need something puny and weak for Kong to crush.
Brandon Roberts A movie with good characters will always be better. Even if you go for the action. It's the difference between mindless action and action with stakes.

Chris Stuckmann is in the minority who disliked this movie. The majority seems to like the movie. It's Cerified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.

Rotten tomatoes isn't everything, I find myself getting troubles with the movie as well.

Probably the same with this movie tbh.

I don't even think Rogue one is dissed/nitpicked enough, it's a bad movie.

Chris, rewatch this movie. It's fantastic. Sooo many things I missed during the first showing.
Marco Poblano hey it's a Stuckmann meme, he's got to keep doing it
Lol wtf? Godzilla 2014 was boring af and they killed the only good character (Bryan Craston) before half the movie.
Marco Poblano, i agree with everything you just said, in both of your comments.I dont know why movies cant be mindless and a fun time, with some funny moments.I am also getting sick of Stuckmanns i grew up with this crap, he does this with Marvel and Dc and i think its really pretentious.I think the more of this pretentious look at me i love movie shit is going to lose him alot of subs, personally it is really disconnecting me from his channel.
right mate I also enjoyed Pacific rim these type of movie have more re-watch able factor than those Oscar movies
i mean predators characters had no development, alien and aliens had very little, with monster movies are you really there to see character back stories or are you there for the monster, look at godzilla way too much time was spent developing the characters
ya I liked Godzilla but they spent to much time on the people then Godzilla . This same issues applies to transformers aswell.
Alien and aliens both had great character development, the fuck out of here.
Come on Ripley was the only full fledged character in either of those movies
Yeh alien and the predator look way cooler
I always found the appeal in Monster movies in the Monsters themselfs, but I also wanted good characters to go up against them. Unless the Monster is sympathetic.
Chris stuckmann on godzilla 2014 - too much character development
Kong skull island 2017- too less character development
make up your mind man
Really? This is hard ass? Hell I watch Stuckmann to see a critic who loves movies and tends to take it kinda easy on them.
Jonathan Walton I like Jeremy jahns because he is like your average audience member who doesn't get too critical and walks in the theater to have a good time and not examine the movie under a microscope
Random Videos Inc there's nuance. It's not binary. You can strike the right balance
theres something called a "middle point" ever heard of that shit? Would you rather have a guy telling honestly how he feels about a film or lie to you?
he did make up his mind. Godzilla had tooo much and this didnt have enough
glad i could clear that up for you :)
This is one of the only reviews of Chris’s that I don’t agree with
What you think the characters ACTUALLY have depth to them??? You telling me you can actually remember who they were? What makes them "interesting"? Is that what you are saying?
King Kong had a couple of good scenes, but honestly THAT was probably the only good thing about this movie. And maybe Samuel L Jack and John C Reily characters. Other than that, the other characters were just blank slates and not memerable. This movie could not be taken seriously
I’m not saying it doesn’t have its problems but I still really liked it that’s all I’m saying

I'm a Marvel fanboy and I even know that movie sucked.
(I really liked Iron Man 3 BTW, because opinions are like booty holes.)
what did he give ghostbusters 2016 I've not seen it and I know it is a pile of nostalgia shit
Age of Ultron was garbage.
So, you grew up with King Kong movies, and when it comes to shared movie universe all you can think of is Marvel? I know what you are trying to say but can you say it without sounding like a Marvel fanboy or can you Google Toho Showa Universe which predates Marvel by 54 years?
C- seriously? can't believe this. you gave B- to Shin Godzilla before.
Shin Godzilla is amazing, one of the best Godzilla movies
tf are u talking about
this movies trailer looked bad
10Exahertz shin Godzilla is total trash
aka nvee
He fuckin' praised Mechanic Resurrection even though it was complete shit. Hiw does that a B and not this movie
10Exahertz shin godzilla has a great story but it was boring
aka nvee He didn't have any balls. If you're gonna keep bitching at least have the guts just to admit it and say he hated the movie.
Damn he roasted the shit outta this movie lmao
A- Day Ikr IM SCARED NOW lol
still gonna watch it though. lol
I still enjoyed it, didn't watch the review before watching it. I never take critics opinions seriously, only watch for fun.
Other than that all the scenes with Kong were badass and fun to watch
there was a lot of gore stuff to.
Rogue One was a good movie
Yes it was, no it was not, yes it was
It had character developement just not the kind of Star Wars characters we were used to.
lebliu fuck off bitch
Rogue One was an... Okay movie. Maybe a bit above average, but part of me wonders if that's just because I was a Star Wars fan in the first place.
Rick Berman McCallum Well duh lol. They are making it for Star Wars fans. Not people who don't give a shit about the saga
Did this guy think he was going to watch Gone with the wind?
Have to agree with most of the comments I’m seeing here. One of if not THE best of this new series. Character motivations hit, even the secondary characters with a bit of a Moby Dick influence. A decent modern spectacle worth anyone’s while.
Why are all my favorite youtube reviewers hating on this movie :( I thought it was one of the better monster movies.
Agree. Best monters movie since the first two Jurassic Park. There are good reviews for it. Look for them.
JeehoonOh Cause all they care about is the characters, not the actions/drama. If the characters *only* the characters are bad, then RUclips reviewers could say the whole movie is bad.
The characters make the movie. Without them and the plot is no movie left.
"If you just want to see Kong punch some things"
I'm in.
I literally did not have any issues with the green screen. It seemed absolutely fine to me.
I usually agree with Chris on most things, but Rogue One was fucking amazing and you need to re-watch it, man. Maybe after multiple viewings, it'll shift your your perspective.
Yes!!!! Rogue one was simply badass and everyone I know loved it too.
i thought he liked rogue one.... hell, i thought that characters were fine for the ones that actually mattered. and i'm not even a star wars superfan or any shit like that.
Sean Seaphan agree
Sean Seaphan he did like it. he gave Rogue One a B-
Sean Seaphan remember also, this is the guy who talked about originality in his cure for wellness review, but was ranting about not enough vader in his rogue one review XD
I assume you mean he tries to be Shane Black in terms of comedy, so is it just like Black's dialogue or action comedy? Genuinely interested.
It's Black's unexpected comedy in conventional dramatic moments (think "Prodigal Son Returns" moment from Iron Man 3). This movie tries to do that and it totally screws with the tone.
Lots of people who watch the movie like it much more than this dude
You grew up watching with the 1933, 1979 and 2005 movies, right!
1976 not 1979👍🏼
7/10 for me.
