The first thing you should know about the Black Russian terrier is that this big, bold breed is actually not a terrier at all. In reality, the BRT (as the breed is commonly referred to) is classified as a working dog.

hello 🙂 How much weight do males go to?
Around 50-70 kg or up to 150 lb

a small male will go 100 lbs most are in that 130 range, my boys have been/are 30" 140 and 31.5 " 160 lbs neither fat, all muscle. It does say in the video 150 lbs
This the only one on BRTs that get almost everything right. I have 2 AKC Show Champion males, the first one passed in 2019 the one I have now is almost 4. They are low shedding dogs. The dogs you see here are all in show coat length, there is no reason to keep a dog in show coat unless they are being shown. They actually do better in a working cut which is about 1 -3 inches long all over depending on the season. BRTs don't tolerate heat well they were bred for Siberian winters. These dogs are not for first time dog owners- Goldens and poodles and hunting dogs don't count. You need to have plenty of experience with GSDs, Rotties, Malinois, Bouviers, Dobes, in other words dogs bred to work, / protect &guard.. Constant socialization is a must. My first BRT was 30" and 140 lbs my present boy is 31.5 in and 160 lbs both were solid muscle not fat they also are very fast over short distances say 50-100 yds my present boy runs down German shorthair pointers, Dobes etc like it is nothing. He keeps up with Mals just fine. They are like an NFL defensive end huge but fast and agile. But they are a lot of work, if you are willing to put in the work it is so worth it.
Absolutely worth the effort.
