Thanks! The driver of the F7000 had some serious skill, he's been doing it for over 30 yrs. The UPW guy did the same thing with the other heavier dumpsters so he wouldn't have to pull/push them all the way onto the forks. He gets close to hitting it but doesn't, also pretty skilled. Lol and I was up against a wall so no he couldn't but it's cool, reminds me of the awesome grandpa on the bike in part 1.
I am from Singapore. We do not have a lot of different types of garbage trucks unlike in your country. My toddler son is a big fan of garbage truck and he has been watching your videos. Your videos have given him a chance to learn and watch different types of garbage trucks. Thanks for uploading part IV. We really appreciate your efforts :) Kudos to your hard work.
The city is really clever using those 300s, they save tons of time. The City of Miami part is only a 3 person crew, the crane operator drives it too. 1 in the dump truck, and one helper with a rake to clean the spills and rake waste into piles. This one is a bit older, the newer ones work on the same basic principle but use a conventional grapple type arm. This system was never really common anywhere but here in the Miami area with the large amounts of vegetation that need handling.
The St. Pete truck wasn't brand new, but the newest in their fleet for sure. The arm isn't all that rough, just a characteristic of the Formula 7000. It's part of the reason I love it so much, even a new arm sounds clanky and worn out.
Dang, that mini 7000 was FAST! The new LA Pete looks pretty ballin, must be dumping the Volvo's now. The UPW FL almost banged the dumpster on the windshield at 10.20! And that guy in the beginning, he couldn't have walked behind the camera, no he had to walk in front of it! Nice video!
Maybe so.. When we had it, we had automated collection and used city carts, but when we got a new company and we stopped doing RB we started using tippers and they started getting ripped off.. So maybe that's the case haha, great video though!
Sexy indeed. I think I like the MarBorg truck so much because it reminds me of this one. The best part about this one though is I didn't plan to find it at all, totally by accident.
San Jose, CA has a similar yard waste collection method as Miami, only our system is a bit more tidy. It involves a Heil or Leach RL with a hopper extension. On both sides of the hopper are tippers for dumping carts. If the rear loader is running behind, Green Waste will send out an ASL to do it, usually an Automizer, but yesterday, they sent a Rapid Rail. The hopper on the RL has another, more important purpose: CAT frontloaders with Tink claws pick up yard waste put in piles in the street (known officially as "loose-in-the-street"), which it then loads into the RL. It's been this way for as long as I've lived, and even though the RLs and frontloaders have changed (the the tippers were only introduced in 2002 and the ASL backups more recently), the method of an RL and frontloader remains the same.
The San Jose method is more popular out west where streets are much wider, although the nearby city of Hialeah uses payloaders instead of cranes or grapples with their dump trucks.
Lol I thought he actually hit it at first. He got close with a couple other bins but never hit anything. At worst the cab guard keeps any real damage from happening. Maybe a dented bin. The Beverly Hills guys pulled the carts out from behind/next to those houses and then brought them back, only on this one street though. The NASA RL was even better in person. Thanks very much. :) You totally should. I would certainly watch if you did, I'm sure plenty of others would too.
Yeah I expected to find an older LA Amrep, but it was a brand new one instead. The Miami trash collection is pretty common around here, but it's usually done with (relatively) newer trucks with grapple style arms. The RR sounded great, Condors are really growing on me. No 300s, I didn't bother just becasue the alleys weren't great for filming in. Scott has plenty of that footage though. :)
Thanks, I try ;). The hyrdocrane is one of my all time favorites, the video here really doesn't do it justice. I'm trying to get more but they now only have 3 left as spares. All the other trucks are Petersen Rear Steers, just like everywhere else in South Florida that has this type of pickup.
Everyone seems to like the NASA truck, for good reason I guess. I'll be posting that separate vid first, probably tomorrow. Was this a Local Rubbish route? All the bins said UPW, unless they were recently re-labeled. In anycase i was glad to find an older style Hardox FL. In the same neighborhood was a NASA STS, but the driver didn't want me filming.
That's because the different bin colors don't mean anything anymore. The city switched to a single stream, no sort system where everything goes into one bin and then gets sorted at a "Dirty MRF." Diversion rates are lower, but it's a good compromise if residents won't sort it themselves or do a bad job of sorting.
Definitely another million view video! Great work my friend, great work! This makes me want to film more route trucks on the streets. I really liked the claw truck, that was neat to watch, I really don't think I've seen one with a "crane" style claw before.
Lmao that's wierd. I passed by that spot a few times and kept telling myself it would make for a great shot. I also got a crap shot of that huge line of bins that someone has a vid of, I think it's yours. The Athens was pure luck. I was actually filming the Amrep when I saw it pull up and ran over to get a shot of it dumping. I was actually a bit farther away from the truck but just guessed on the amount of zoom before hitting record. It's always hit and miss lol. cont...
my great aunt lives in st petersburg in a trailer park with those 300gal cans and she sends me videos from time to time of the trucks. she usually gets the frankenstein trucks that have a durapack 7k body with a curbtender arm
Yes they have Recycle Bank. The garbage trucks (otherwise identical) had 2 Baynes instead of the 1 McNeilus, must be something to do with the RFID. The speed can be adjusted, AAA must have had them set low. And thanks!
Love the 300g's too, massive!!! The name "Commercial Waste Services Inc" - doesn't get any more obvious about who they service :P A speedy truck that Miami Springs single axle is, looking forward to more footage of that one for sure. A crew of four handling the Miami green-waste; 1 driving the grapple, 1 operating, 1 driving the dump and the guy who showed up at the end. Looks like very old trucks on that job too; a cable connected to the grapple I noticed too - not common nowadays yeh?
Phenominal video! Really like these series because of the different types/kinds of trucks, you'll never get bored lol. One of my favorite shots was at 0:24, and even the lid flip was great. looks like you found one of LA's latest HX-450 ASl's with the new Pete grille. Never seen such a collection like 6:40 so that was cool. Then the ASL's arm before it looked like it was replaced numerous times. That was one screanin RR. Did you catch the 300s too? whoa they had crews for it lol. Screamin' 310!
This was awesome!!! Been a while since your last part of this series, think I recall part 1 with all the WM equipment. Nothing beats a good-sized video containing a wide range of trucks and collections, then the tidy camera work makes it just as enjoyable. Dunno if I've ever liked, faved and featured a video at once, but this production deserved it 100% =] Pretty new truck that St Pete one at the start? Funny how rough the 7000 arm is on such a young truck haha
Excellent job. I really enjoy that grapple crane, the Waste Pro truck and the NASA truck. Regarding Waste Pro, is that Hollywood where they have set up Recycle Bank? Those McNeilus tippers were fast compared to the ones AAA had.
That 2nd container emptied by the UPW FL must've been a nanometer from touching the cab when they raised the forks to slide it on - close as, if not touched! How about the crew doing the Beverly Hills collections... two guys putting bins up on the kerb?!?! The NASA RL at the end got me, didn't think much of the engine hearing it idling, but f**k when they ran a cycle - what a screamer!!! FAST packer too! So much to say, but terriffic job on the video. Might do something like this myself one day?
On the Leach Hollywood Recycle collection, do they use Recycle Bank? Because I noticed the little black card on the front of the cans like we had here when we had RB

Thanks! I feel you, RLs tipping carts are really fun to watch. The NY stuff will be up soon, lots of commercial RL action.
