they dont eat his tail, they dont even bite it hard, if they would lion would turn and run for them to kill. They only make him turn away from the meal so other hyenas can take over and maybe lion would give up. its just to get his attention. His tail can break if they really would bite it hard, and that would make the male lion really pissed and might go for kill, male lions mostly break back of small animals in second and hyenas know that just well enough to not fuck with fire.

That’s called teamwork! The hyenas are determined and tenacious! They constantly harass the lion, then mob him, until he becomes distracted and eventually leaves the kill!

Much respect for this young male lion. He stood his ground though he was grossly outnumbered. Then he casually walked away and let the scourge have their meal.

That sub adult not fully grown yet still stood against the thugs of savannah. This is the characteristic of lions not to get subdued or exhibit fear even in dire situations like this. It was surely a dangerous situation for the lion as the hyena numbers kept increasing. But the lion would let even its kill but not its own pride , it held its head high and walked majestically away real king.

Absolutely an incredible sighting! Super rare I’ve been to Mala Mala and saw a leopard kill a warthog and chased it across the riverbed and finally killed it. So amazed I witnessed that!
That's a young male lion who was probably chased out of pride and has to establish his own. Hence why he is alone. With his pride, he would have been able to defend his catch and killed some of these Hyena.

yeah. They have very effective tactics when trying to scavenge from lions. Continously mob the lion or lions and generally cause chaos to get the lion off the kill, then rush in and take it. Very clever.
Extraordinary courage. The lion walked away slowly and deliberately even though he was surrounded by enough hyenas that could have killed him.

@@Ttcopp12rt Hyenas are formidable predators. They usually have a very high respect for big male lions. This lion was wise enough to recognize the numbers were not in his favor. There's no shame in that. Pride comes before the fall. You are obviously the ignorant one here.
He sensed the threat and coolly walked off. The hyenas were only interested in the Buffalo carcass. So the job was done.
The lion was smart to walk away. It looked like the hyenas were going to bite his genitals.

stunning encounter...great to see the male lion simply leave on his terms...he's like to hell with this and leaves with his head held high
LOLz, he didn't left on his terms. Obviously, he wanted to eat that meal. No one in animal kingdom wants to leave their hard earned buffalo kill. He was forced to leave by the sheer persistence, unity and tactics of the amazing hyena clan.
The defiance and bravery of that young male.....still trying to enjoy a meal, in the midst of danger💪🏾🦁!!! The entire carcass would've been eaten had there been just ONE more male on the scene, or a couple of lionesses.

Hyena could have bitten tail really hard. He just gave a gentle bite. Cause he knows if lion gets mad it will fight until its last breath literally. A lion who's 90% dead can still murder another hyena
That is utter rubbish, the hyenas dont care about how angry the lion is they are trying to draw it out and run away quickly because one paw swipe from the Male lion can break a hyenas neck. All this lion fighting to the last breath stuff is a myth also, lionesses will run from a threat like a hyena clan if they have enough stamina. If a lion isnt running it knows it has low stakina
@@Idri5 there's a big difference between male lion and female. The female fights for food etc. The fury of a male lion is well documented, just watch any video and you'll see the difference real fast. There are videos of male lion running practically almost into a crocodiles open jaws and the whole group of crocks flee from fright of the Male lions fury. So too u can find video of 30 hyena successfully chasing away 3 female lion. And the lionesses all flee. But when the male lion comes they flee in complete fright. There are plenty of videos of male lions fighting till their deaths. They show their fury openly.

Not true. If the lion was alone, hyenas would probably kill and eat him still alive. The hyenas get more aggressive if they are hungry, and more careful if not. There's no such thing as "king of the jungle", only in Disney movies. The hyenas keep biting in their "butt" and genital area, and if they cut it open, the lion is as good as dead.

To think that Buffalo had to feel the lion slowly devour his back until he either dies from losing some vital artery or of blood loss, even than it would take probably an hour for the lions hunting and feeding marks to end his life and with the fucking hole in his back I say that this guy suffered. Honestly this is heartbreaking. What a terrible way to die. If the lion had killed the buffalo via choking it or severing the jugular/spinal cord I wouldn't feel as bad. This is horrible. Can you imagine being eaten alive?

Note the way the lion keeps its tail tuck down as much as possible to protect its massive testicles. Hyenas are supremely skilled at tearing testicles clean off. The lion also sits in an attempt to protect its nether regions.
This was an adolescent, not yet fully grown male.Would be interesting to see whether hyenas - even 10 of them - would try to push a powerfully full grown male lion off his kill.
It may be the first time for me too see hyenas getting that close to a male lion and no one of them gets killed and eventually lion leave maybe because the lion is not that hungry or he is not fully grown
