I take it --- this was the Russian anthem shortly after the breakup of the USSR, but before Putin "remastered" the old Soviet anthem that the Russian Federation currently uses today.
Yeltsin tried to be a good president. But the economy for a decade was a big problem. This anthem to me, represents a fresh start, but also an endurance test for russians.
Michał Glinka - a composer of Polish origin. The song is based strictly on the medieval Polish religious hymn "Kryste, our day of light"/ "Chryste, dniu naszej światłości" :) So, Russians are playing a pure Polish anthem. :)
