  • The Lighthouse of Egmont Key and the Abandoned Ruins of Fort Dade the Ghost Town Island of Tampa Bay is my adventure and exploration of Egmont Key and it's historic Lighthouse, Egmont Key Light. Please check out Jackie’s video (SUPER ENTHUSED on RUclips) of Miami’s oldest lighthouse, Cape Florida Light

    • Miami's Oldest Lightho...
When Jackie and I both decided we were going to collaborate by each of us exploring Florida Lighthouse that we both capture lighthouses today and the only lighthouse I really knew of, is on Egmont Key. I had no idea of the history behind the island or the lighthouse until I started looking. I knew that it was an Island off the coast of Ft. Desoto State Park and that I needed to take a boat. Well, I ended up having one of the best adventures I have ever had. The island is a Paradise. Check out the video to see exactly what I mean. And again, please visit the Super Enthused channel. The link to Jackie's video is above and also below in the comment. You can thank her there for inspiring this awesome adventure.

Egmont Key Lighthouse was my first duty station out of USCG basic training. I was stationed there from June 74- February 75. There was so much more to see and explore back then and I took full advantage of it. Structures such as the power plant, galley and refrigerator rooms and the gun batteries on the south end of the island were all part of the island and easy to explore. I’m glad I took pictures. Since 2019 I have served as a volunteer with Egmont Key Alliance working to restore and preserve the beacon and buildings of the light station. Good times and great memories.

THIS. IS. EPIC!!!!! You did such an incredible job and Egmont key looks like such a beautiful and wonderful place!!! That ferry was so cool, and wow choppy waters! Tuuuurtle!! It’s so interesting how empty the island is, everyone looked ready and loaded up for a beach/park day. Oh wow i loved the abandoned, overgrown looking area, absolutely beautiful! And the abandoned building wow creepy and beautiful, and the ruins were sooooo cool!! I loved every second of this, TJ, the shots, the music choice, the history, all of it!!!! I am so happy we did this and am just loving what you did!!!!

Thank you so much buddy. I had such a blast making this one, the island is now one of my favorite places in the world. I can't wait to get back there. It is truly magic , like you said! ;) The next time I go, I am thinking about renting a boat, so that I have more time on the island. There is no bathrooms, or food n water on this island, So, they try to make it a very quick visit for you. I also had to sign a waiver, saying that no one was responsible for anything that could happen to me on the island. Also, I am very sad to say that the island is slowly eroding away. Those batteries I was climbing on will all be under water one day. So, come and check out sometime before it goes. lol Thanks again man. I'm so glad you joined me.

That was by far one of the best tours that you have represented so far on your channel Tampa Jay, awesome awesome video, I think you are getting better each time you do this, the music was perfect and how you documented this was amazing. Thanks again my awesome friend.

    • @TampaJay

Thank you man I appreciate you saying that. I spent more time on this video then I think any video I’ve ever made. It also was one of the best times I’ve ever had making one. I fell in love with that island I can’t wait to get back to it I forgot to mention that it is a rolling away and those batteries will one day be underwater. At one time those batteries were at the center of the island. It used to be about 6 mi.² an hour it is less than four. Also there is a lot more history that I did not have time to mention. I will be back there one day. I’m thinking about renting my own boat that way I have the whole day to myself on the island. The ferry is very strict and leaves twice a day and if the weather is bad like it was that day they cut your time short. But thank you so much man you don’t know what it means to me you’re awesome compliments and you watching. I hope you have a most excellent day you definitely deserve it brother :-)

Long Long ago I used to go here each and almost every weekend in the early 70’s . It was not popular to go here then. Egmont key was about twice the size it is now. I fished along the shores caught grouper , sheep head and much more. Lots of turtles, lots of other stuff, even paths that you can no longer travel there.

Good video Jay!! Your videos keep getting better and better. I guess you bet me to the punch on this one😂. If you are wondering what I was referring to look at something I posted two days ago of a lighthouse off my canon and read the comment under it. Even the intro into your video of running around a palm tree was going to be the way I started mine. I guess great minds think alike. Guess I will have to change up the video idea. I still can’t wait to go out there on Friday cause I know I will get some awesome photos with how untouched and secluded it is out there.

hahahaha loved the intro man, very cool. Great B roll. Ive never been to this light house and I really love St. Pete. I wish I lived over there. I'm def checking this out next time. any good places to eat around there? Also where can I find true royalty free music for my videos? i keep getting song on I tunes that say they are royalty free but whenI upload my video I get a copyright claim. Help me Tamp J, you're my only hope!

Hey brother thank you so much for watching . I’m glad you enjoyed this place there’s a couple good spots to eat off of Fort De Soto but it is so close to Saint Petersburg Beach witch Has many spots to Dine. If it were me I’d probably go over to BIF Burger. So for my music I primarily use the iTunes library or how use copyrighted it depends on how copyrighted it is though some of my music is not royalty free LOL. Obviously I’m not monetize so it doesn’t really make a difference. But there are some songs that will get your video taken down immediately. depending on How copyrighted it is. I’ve been kind of a rebel with music. But if I really like a song I won’t let anything stop me from putting in the video. The place is absolutely beautiful man I had the best time making this one I’m really glad you enjoyed it

I went into the powerhouse when it stood. There was a concrete pool to house freshwater to cool the engines that made the power. Was there in 72 when a storm of hurricane force did much damage. Soon there will be storms much worse. Ponder tomorrow.

Fort Dade’s buildings were burned down in the 40’s because people from other countries lived in them. The police of St Pete or Tampa went there and burned them down to keep the people from coming back. Just gave you a little extra history. Got a lot more if you want

Paul Mayer Hey brother. The first song is called dirty balls by monsters of men. The second song at the end is The wolves and the ravens in the Grove by Rogue Valley. I was inspired by a movie called the secret life of Walter Mitty one of my faves :)

Wally World is a fictional theme park in the 1983 movie/ comedy. National Lampoon's; Vacation. Its a very funny movie. You should check it out sometime. Also, you will here American's make references to Walmart and calling it 'Wally World" lol ITs just something we do. I hope that makes sense. Thank you for watching Mary ;) I hope you had a wonderful weekend my friend.
