I know that no one cares but I think it’s relevant…? The last school I worked at was the high school that Catherine Hardwicke graduated from and so when Twilight came out and blew up all the students on campus went crazy for it. Apparently students were actually biting each other and dressing up like characters from the movie. Anyways the teachers that were working there during that time hated Twilight because of that. When I heard about this I thought it was the funniest thing because I was a fan as well although not to that extreme 😂

i dont know if what im about to mention is a tie-in novel/show combo but theres this show on Netflix called YOU thats based on the book YOU, and the writer usually releases each book a few months before the correlating season comes out. Oh my god I had completely forgotten about this movie. My mom and I had rented it and we both hated the whole thing. My mom only wanted to see it because it was basically twilight and she likes those books
Just to show how the writer from Once Upon a time ,did a better job reimaging red riding hood , it was great --…… spoiler it was her and murders her own lover 💯
And then they compltetely mistreated her for a bunch of season and gave her a one episode love story with dorothy when they should've dedicated a lot nore screentime to it because they really were cute together :(
I just realized it also somewhat has a Werewolf game (aka Mafia) element to the story, the whole mystery on who is the wolf that keeps killing people at night.
Tbh…. I kinda like the idea of having a book’s chapter being only accessible through a countdown online. It kinda feels like waiting for google’s Santa tracker to open up; you get to play the games & have fun (read the book), and then at the end you get to watch Santa go around the world (end the chapter). I don’t think a final chapter being withheld is…. A good idea lol, but maybe like a bonus chapter could be cool? Like you know how certain books have exclusive chapters if you buy them from specific retailers? But it would be more accessible if it were free online, ya know? Maybe an epilogue or an additional chapter would be cool to have to wait for. But I’d make it more fun to wait, too; like the cipher hunt, how that built up and a bunch of cryptic clues were left and stuff? Idk haha. Def could have been executed better, but I do like the idea
This actually solves a mystery in my life that I didn't know was a mystery. I read the novel close to when it came out and sort of shrugged off the ending as some artistic pretentiousness. Months later I saw the movie and got really confused by the ending, wondering if I had actually finished reading the book. Neither movie nor book were great, so i never bothered to go back and see the book's ending. But now i know! I did read book to completion. It was just a dumb set up
I've never heard of this book or movie which is weird because there was a shit ton of twilight fangirls at my school who loved the books, movies, and everything like it, so I'm surprised I've never heard anyone talk about it.
This could've easily been solved by having the book ending in a different way from the movie, or on a way that makes you think it's one character and then on the movie it's revealed to be another. It's tricky but a competent writer could have been capable of it and other media franchises like NGE have different endings too
I actually loved this book. But I read it after the bonus chapter was already available so I wasn’t upset, just kinda confused why the ending wasn’t in the book.
Story time! Last year when this was on Netflix, I threw this on for background noise, never having seen it before. I was completely transfixed by the astonishing shape and scale of the wasted potential on display. I decided I would rewatch it every day and while it was on I would work on my own, better adaptation of the Red Riding Hood fairy tale. I did not keep that promise... but I AM almost 6000 words into a version of the story set in rural Renaissance France. If I ever finish it, I will update this comment.
I haven’t seen the movie, but actually quite enjoyed the book and the second/hidden epilogue format was a unique and fun way to get the ending. Granted, I read it a few years after it came out, so I didn’t have to wait for the bonus chapter, but it was a cool feature to me and I liked the twist.
Wow, this answers a question I didn’t even know I had! I read this as a teenager and always wondered at the choice to end the book without an answer. I figured they were just making a bold choice and trying to say it was about the journey and not the answer 😂 I was so confused when I watched the movie later and saw they gave it an actual endings
They really sat there and thought "no way people would watch this if they already know what's going to happen," as if that's not already how book to movie adaptations work- Sounds like they had no faith in the film, really
I like this movie and I own the director's two behind the scenes books! The twilight one was great with lots of details but the red riding hood one is pretty much just the script with scraps on the side. I imagine that's why it didn't do so well. There was very little behind the scenes and was basically just a script. Hope that helps!
Admittedly a nitpicky pet peeve of mine, but holy hell, the original cover is SO MUCH more interesting than that bland-ass movie poster they slapped on the book after the movie debut
Ive never seen the movie (Didnt know there was one) but I do have the book. I was honestly shocked since I stopped reading at chapter 7 and never reached the end. Now I have to inform my mother about the non-existent end as she is currently reading it.
I hate that this didn't work out and until the very end of the video, I didn't remember this being a thing, but I now have a slightly more-than-vague memory of it, and I actually wanted to see it. Unfortunately, I feel two months was too long for people to sit on that, and had the book been released a week to a month before the movie, I think it would've turned out WAY better; it's just not smart to leave people in suspense for an epilogue for long, as it leaves them a chance to drum up many possibilities and hold it to such a high standard that it then becomes nearly impossible to vault over.
“Other teen novel disaster” yeah if I made an indie romance vampire movie and then made millions of dollars and started a film franchise only shadowed by Harry Potter and launched the careers of the two leads, I would definitely call that a disaster.
Hi, it’s supposed to be read as “Other Teen Novel, Disaster”, as in it’s her other teen novel movie, that was a disaster. I enjoyed the Twilight films and would never call them a disaster lol, sorry for any confusion
@Beatriz da Costa “despite making millions and having tons of fans and launching careers, it’s still hated by many” yeah, your point is? Anything that is mainstream and hugely popular is going to have criticism. It doesn’t mean it’s not successful. Harry Potter is banned and hated in many religious areas of America, does that mean Harry Potter is a hated and disastrous franchise? Also Hardwicke only directed the first film, and it was from her imagery and filmmaking, that a whole ass genre of copycats followed as well as parodies and skits. It still has memes and references made it for it to this day, more than 10 years after it’s release. A pretty big impact to be made on culture for an indie director. I think you could call that an accomplishment.
@@cass465 I think that she meant that despite the financial success and the impact in pop culture (it's was the Harry Potter fenomenon but for teenagers) the novels and characters are bad I mean even Robert Pattinson knew it and had several problems with the production and directors some aspects about the world are interesting but the author choose to focus on Bella and Edward relationship that is not as interesting.
I seriously doubt Joe would be calling the actual existence of the franchise a disaster if they were actually referring to Twilight being one. Obviously it was successful financially and popularity wise. That doesn't mean the writing is good. Something itself can be garbage and still be successful. Think of it like the banana duct taped to a wall. Tons of people hate that it was referred to as art and would say its a disaster in terms of a well made art piece. That doesn't mean it wasn't crazy popular and crazy expensive. Successfulness happens to often be the result of a fundamental disaster.
Honestly I feel like the lack of an ending made sense. And how it was handled worked?: Open ended mystery that keeps people guessing and hyped for many months. (its a love hate relationship having to make theories) Whilst also EVENTUALLY giving people who were upset by a lack of conclusion, the closure they need. It also makes sense that they'd eventually release the book again with the final chapter, if not for the folks who want that chapter, but for the sake of preservation.
it should've been about the dead sister, could've made a very interesting story, she could fear slowly turning into a werewolf due to the bite, some mystery as to who bit her, and this whole secret affair child subplot could've led to some major NOO moments, certainly more interesting than the "oohhh who do I pick out of this love triangle where the ending is a foregone conclusion" bs.
I was like 8 when twilight came out and as much as I keep this info to myself, I officially became a twi-hard sometime shortly before the new moon movie was released and I read all the books (including the midnight sun leak) within a week lmao. I definitely read all the books multiple times, and though I used to be so ashamed of my obsession, but now I look back on the saga, esp the first movie with fondness and nostalgia. Despite only seeing two of her films, I had also always chose to think of Catherine hardwicke as a very talented director, SOLELY basing my opinion on the movie Thirteen starring Nikki reed and Evan Rachel wood and writing twilight off as a pass because though it’s not a masterpiece direction-wise.. everything in that first movie is EXACTLY how I imagined it while reading, to a T, even the weird green tint lmao 💀. I’m rethinking my opinion tho bc while thirteen is still one of my favs, I honestly don’t think it was that special in terms of how it was directed.. it just feels like it because of the early 2000s vibe. I think the reason the movie is so special is honestly only because of how amazing the acting is, as well as the script and the heavy subject matter. I say all this as context for my possible theory that maybe hardwicke relies less on amazing directing skills and more on gimmicky tactics and talented actors to get people to overlook her mediocrity as a director 🤔🤔 I could be wrong tho maybe her movies I haven’t seen are amazing and she’s simply a directorial genius
It had so much potential and i still really like the movie for what it is and i’m sad to see so many people hate it but i understand the story is actually really convoluted
i watched the red riding hood movie today and i didn't even search for this movie or anything like it so kinda weird that i got this in my recomended and i clicked on it not thinking much xD
You will not believe how mad I was at 13 years old to flip the page and see they cut out the final chapter of this fucking book. Good thing I only got it from the library lol.
I can't remember whether I read the book the before or after movie came out (I think it was after though.) My mother read it too, and so I had a heads-up about the ending or lack thereof. But I remember finding the book later on (I think I borrowed it from the library the first time and then bought it later) and the final chapter was definitely there. So it was definitely included in some physical books. I was always confused about the ending, and had no idea that this was how it all happened. But it explains a lot.
I seen the movie I didn't even know it had a book version until I found out about it. I haven't read the book but I only seen the movie and I like the movie version. Open Endings always suck since you're stuck with it without a conclusion.

Yeah, don't blame the teachers for feeling that way if students are literally BITING each other....
This seems like a mixed media ARG before the craze caught on.
They shouldn't break up books like that, but I really hope tie-in novel/movie combos become mainstream again.
i dont know if what im about to mention is a tie-in novel/show combo but theres this show on Netflix called YOU thats based on the book YOU, and the writer usually releases each book a few months before the correlating season comes out. Only thing is the show doesnt really follow the book that much anymore, i think only the first season was actually book accurate, but the show is amazing and I’ve heard that the books are really good too, so you should definitely try those out
what does mixed media ARG mean?? I Googled it but I can't find anything
@@magicath4968 mixed media alternate reality game: where all the different pieces of the puzzles are laid across different forms of media, ie: books, movies, videos etc.
Oh my god I had completely forgotten about this movie.
My mom and I had rented it and we both hated the whole thing.
My mom only wanted to see it because it was basically twilight and she likes those books
Ooof...that is an 'interesting' tactic: blue balling your target demo 🤔
Just to show how the writer from Once Upon a time ,did a better job reimaging red riding hood , it was great --…… spoiler it was her and murders her own lover 💯
That's exactly what I thought Amanda Seyfried's Red Riding Hood was going to do when he explained that she stabs her lover!
I really liked the Once Upon A Time RRH.
Side note:
Her and Dorthy were cute together
@@Macaroonsonaplate yes I screamed ! Hahaha when I saw them kiss 🧡💜♥️
And then they compltetely mistreated her for a bunch of season and gave her a one episode love story with dorothy when they should've dedicated a lot nore screentime to it because they really were cute together :(
Once upon a time was so good! Then Elsa and Anna came along
So basically they teased the story with the book, hide the ending, because they dont want spoil the movie, and later release the last chapter. What?
I just realized it also somewhat has a Werewolf game (aka Mafia) element to the story, the whole mystery on who is the wolf that keeps killing people at night.
I genuinely thought it was based off the game when I saw it
Idk haha. Def could have been executed better, but I do like the idea
dang all this time I thought a second book was coming. Didn't know it was intended to be unfinished lmao
I WATCH THIS MOVIE EVERY SINGLE YEAR FOR HALLOWEEN THIS IS LITERALLY ONE OF MY FAVORITE HATE WATCH MOVIES EVERRRRR I LOVE IT SO MUCH
This is one of my favourite movies it’s sad there was going to be more but they weren’t made :(
This actually solves a mystery in my life that I didn't know was a mystery.
It was just a dumb set up
Unpopular opinion but I love the Red Riding Hood movie and I was a Twihard 😩! Never knew about the Red Riding book.
I would be surprised if I discovered the werewolf identity... If they didnt cast the most famous actor of that movie in that role.
But I read it after the bonus chapter was already available so I wasn’t upset, just kinda confused why the ending wasn’t in the book.
random weird fact:
on 0:50 the video at the bottom right is the same video used on the fiftyfifty "cupid" lyric video
I borrowed the book from my school library today and I wanted to do some research on the book and this is what I found-
Update I ordered the "Script to Screen" book. It's actually worse in script form. I am powered by spite and disgust
All that aside, the cover for the book was GORGEOUS. Really nice illustration.
You are literally my new fave RUclipsr, the tea you bring is immaculate. Most underrated RUclipsr EVER 😤😩
I am HOOKED with your channel!!!!
moral of the story: communicate with your audience 😭😭😭
That's absolutely bonkers that you could buy a book (an otherwise acclaimed book) with the last chapter missing
This story sounds so good it's so sad it turned out bad 😭
Ive never seen the movie (Didnt know there was one) but I do have the book. I was honestly shocked since I stopped reading at chapter 7 and never reached the end. Now I have to inform my mother about the non-existent end as she is currently reading it.
I've read that book 6 years ago, hated it, read it again 3 years ago to give it another shot, hated it and now I know WHY
This deserves so much more views
I need a video on warm bodies and why a sequel was never made 😭
This video is put together so well I can't believe u only have 12k subs!! Your future is bright with content to this level already!
just came across your channel and i absolutely love how you narrate and structrure this video
@@JoeRegrets i had no problem understanding exactly that!
And how it was handled worked?:
Open ended mystery that keeps people guessing and hyped for many months. (its a love hate relationship having to make theories)
Whilst also EVENTUALLY giving people who were upset by a lack of conclusion, the closure they need.
It also makes sense that they'd eventually release the book again with the final chapter, if not for the folks who want that chapter, but for the sake of preservation.
Gotta say I didn't relate RRH with Tw, but know I see it haha, I liked bc of how it ended though, really wasn't expecting that
RUclips algorithm sent me this video, I literally watched this movie at the time and never knew it was a book 😂 definitely should have just waited
Percy Jackson movie? We didn't have one yet
it should've been about the dead sister, could've made a very interesting story, she could fear slowly turning into a werewolf due to the bite, some mystery as to who bit her, and this whole secret affair child subplot could've led to some major NOO moments, certainly more interesting than the "oohhh who do I pick out of this love triangle where the ending is a foregone conclusion" bs.
I dont understand the hate for the movie. I liked it. Never read the book, tho
Oh… I actually like a couple of things from the movie. 1) a scenery shot. It’s so pretty 2) the music 3) Amanda Seyfried
I remember this! It was actually really funny because I read the book AFTER I saw the movie and was thoroughly confused.
honestly, that book ending without the last chapter sounds better than the original xd
Well all I can say is I liked the movie👍🏻. Fractured fairy tales are my jam in all their forms🍿
I'm very happy to have stumbled upon your channel! Excellent storytelling; I have a feeling you'll be blowing up soon.
I never read the book and this shit is getting on my nerves😂
Your channel is so underrated! I'm binge watching all your videos and I hope you get to 100k in no time
i've never even heard of this movie or novel. And I was deep into twilight back in the day
It had so much potential and i still really like the movie for what it is and i’m sad to see so many people hate it but i understand the story is actually really convoluted
i watched the red riding hood movie today and i didn't even search for this movie or anything like it so kinda weird that i got this in my recomended and i clicked on it not thinking much xD

I actually really liked this movie, except all the romance so I guess i only liked the idea of the movie
You will not believe how mad I was at 13 years old to flip the page and see they cut out the final chapter of this fucking book. Good thing I only got it from the library lol.
"However, I'm unsure if this is the case with recent printings of the book, if there are any"
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I watched this when I was like 12 and LOVED it 😂

I remember seeing a movie poster for this film at the mall when I was a boy
omg!! thank u for sharing!!

I watched (and own) this movie and didn't know any of this. Wow.
I was a huge twilight fan when i was a kid and i remember really liking this movie too🤪
thats bullshit that they replaced the cover. in what way is a boring photo/movie screenshot better than that lovely drawing?
I had always hoped there would be a secound movie of the red ridning hood.
I actually loved this movie when it came out lol I was 20 and a huge Twilight fan.. it was fun, dumb and a little bit spooky
