    Good morning . Another beautiful day here. We were walking around the rubicon marina yesterday and discovered that the public toilets near the Italian restaurant is now closed. There’s a notice on the doors that it is only for people with boats moored in the marina. It used to be a very busy and convenient facility especially on market days. This will put people off visiting this gorgeous area.
    Another informative video this morning. Really enjoying them even when we’re back in the uk.

    Many thanks! Always interesting and useful but particularly for those flying out to Lanzarote next Wednesday! We are staying in Puerto Calero so, as well as watching the Superleague Grand Final at McSorley's early on the Saturday evening, it seems that, with the marlin festival, there will be plenty of other things going on as well. Again, thanks for the update!

    Another great video Mike, very informative as always. Many thanks. We spent a lovely ‘quiet’ evening in Arrecife yesterday (Friday 4th) listening to a thrash metal? band at the pools behind the Grand Hotel followed by a female band by the bandstand. I tried to eat the 12 grapes when we were here one New Year’s Eve but they had pips in them and I nearly choked trying but it was good fun.

    Question for you, Are the ‘70 ‘ Bluey road signs near arrieta, advisory? Am puzzled as the other signs are red and white for speed limits across the island , I haven’t seen any other blue and white speed signs anywhere else, it seems a bit random.

    • @LanzaroteInformation

      A rectangular sign in blue, which is what the ones in Arrieta are, indicates a recommended maximum speed for a section of road. In that case, they are through the double bend.

    The simple answer to over tourism is to ban all inclusive hotels! This will send lots of people elsewhere . We love playa blanca and will spend our annual holiday there next year self catering so we can experience the wonderful restaurants Playa Blanca has to offer.

      The massive growth in tourism hasn’t come from hotels. We actually have fewer hotel beds here than we had in 2015. The growth has come from the massive increase in apartments and villas for rental.

    If there are too many tourists, why does lanzarote continue to allow huge hotels to be built like the recent one in Playa Blanca ?

    • @LanzaroteInformation
      @LanzaroteInformation  2 дня назад +3

      The planning for that hotel was given ten years ago, but we actually have fewer hotel beds now than we had in 2015. The massive growth has come from privately let villas and apartments.

      @sarahmoncrieffmacmillan2682 2 дня назад +1

      Thanks Mike, interesting to see lower hotel beds now

    •  2 дня назад +1

      I don’t think hotels are the problem, it’s properties that used to be available for long term lets to locals are now being used as short term holiday lets, therefore, they can charge much more for short lets as opposed to what income they can get for long term lets. The Lanzarote authorities have created the problem by issuing too many short term licences, I understand the locals anger.

    • @sarahmoncrieffmacmillan2682
      @sarahmoncrieffmacmillan2682 2 дня назад +1

      I totally agree. The locals must have accommodation at the correct level. Maybe hotels should provide low-cost apartments for staff to live.

    Hi ,What's your view on the desensitized plant that's not fit for purpose anymore and the canal are turning the water off 2 times a week in PDC.

    • @LanzaroteInformation
      @LanzaroteInformation  День назад

      The desalination plant? The issue is that one part of it, called Lanzarote iV, broke down some time ago, and it not repairable, so it needs to be completely replaced. That was the catalyst for the current shortages. But there have been years and years of underinvestment in the entire water system, which means much of it leaks like a sieve. There isn’t a quick fix, but we need to spend a lot of money, fast.

  • @allisonbriggs1861

    If there is too much tourism maybe they shouldn't allow massive hotels like the Barcelo in Playa blanca to be built. Personally We have been coming over for 25 years and much preferred it when it wasn't so difficult to get in to restaurants. Last year we had to try and book every night. The buses were full and it wasn't very easy to get a taxi.

    • @LanzaroteInformation
      @LanzaroteInformation  День назад +1

      It isn’t the hotels that are causing the massive increase in people on the island. We have fewer hotel beds here than we had in 2015. The increase has come from the huge increase in the number of apartments and villas being let.

    Hi Mike, i saw on uk TV this morning that a lot of Spanish resorts are opting to limit their AI hotels to 6 drinks per day and wondered if that applies to Lanzarote etc. I am not a user of AI hotels myself as usually go to PDC old town area and stay self catering as love to eat and drink in the local bars and restaurants, but have used them a couple of times when the kids were younger especially when the exchange rate was not very good lol.
    I think this could have a positive effect on local businesses as folks may venture further out than their hotel, but could also deter them from booking Spanish resorts and going else where idk?

    When tourists stop coming, and locals lose their jobs, then having to claim state benefits, or starve, lets hope people then learn the consequences of the decisions of their elected officials. If you have too much tourism, putting the prices up self limits that without financially hurting the Spanish people. But no, lets throw common sense out with the baby and the bathwater. If your government wanted affordable housing for the people, that is a no brainer. They have options, they could do that, but are choosing not to….
