I love how positive you are. I just started a job in a cafe and finding it so hard learning all the drinks, but your positivity and love for your job give me motivation!
Haha I’d sure hope so! Coffee shop I work at we make sure everything is super clean and sanitized. That’s how any coffee shop is. Cause I know they do have rules to follow.
Your videos make me missing working at a local coffee shop so much!! I used to work at one in Vancouver, WA but had to transfer to a Starbucks when I moved to DC with my husband 🙄 SO DIFFERENT and such a different experience, customer relationships, coworker relationships....everything. Even with what you’re talking about with the flow and efficiency. Can’t wait to be back in WA and work local!!
Yeah I agree with just establishing a point of contact, even if their drink will still be a while. I work in a stand sort of thing but it's in a shopping centre, it's not drivethru, but even just saying "i'll be with you in a minute Sir/Maam" or "just give me a minute to finish this order," lets the customer relax and know you've noticed them, and 99.99% of the time their response is "of course, no rush, all good, etc. etc." I totally understand where their coming from too though, they just need to know that you've seen them and know they're waiting to order. It is frustrating when customers get annoyed at their drink taking too long though. You can't expect quality, quantity, and speed all at the same time 😂
I use to work at a 2 drive thru window coffee hut and we always had a business and it was stressful but also relaxing because you can just do your own jam and work at your own pace. People left my line all the time too, but it is what it is.
Thank you for touching on the window question I asked about! Since I’ve asked I’ve worked a big event so I kinda figured out what worked for me and a lot of it you said you do too so that makes me feel better knowing I can handle it now and you and I do that same things! 😅
This is actually super helpful. I've been working at a Starbucks cafe for around a year, but tomorrow I'm starting at a drive thru and I'm super nervous. These tips actually really helped me.
OH WOW! I was about to move on to another video but then a saw Frederick! I'm not a so called "friend" (irl) of his or anything but I met him in Salem(a congregational church in Sandefjord/Norway) when I was a teen. That was just surprising that you have contact with him! The world is truly a small place sometimes! I'm friends with him on Facebook so I see his updates from time to time- but I haven't talked to him in years and he probably does not recognize or remember me, but I always thought him as an inspirational person, and its really cool to see him and his wife traveling around and living their life to the fullest! I just had to say it. Haha :D I'm Norwegian so I have to apologize for my English grammar. ( i'm to lazy to check if its correct) I just found your channel today and I love your spirit and what you do, Taylor. Keep up the great work :)
What?! That is so ironic! Haha small world! Yeah I did YWAM (a volunteer program with them) when I was 18. I met them in Belize. They are two of the coolest people I know!
I used to work the drive thru at Taco Bell and it was obviously a lot different, but also similar in the way that it's kind of like doing a dance haha and just getting into a rhythm. Happy you got your laptop fixed :)
I just found your channel! And you are adorable!! I'm also a fellow ex sbux barista! I now manage two coffee shops on a military base in Japan and it's the best! We don't have a drive thru but I also do and train others in what you explained on how to make more than one drink at a time! You explained it perfectly!! Now I'm gonna go watch a ton more of your vids! Keep it up girly!
Multitasking and time pressure is for sure a big part of being a barista. Doing this for over twenty years. Once in a while there is still a day when it can get to much. Long lineups for hours. Wonder is it just me, but I need my own espresso intake before opening and during rush hour just to keep up.
Thanks for answering questions and explaining how you handle the double drive thru window. I know I had asked a question about it a little while back, but don't know if you were referring to me? lol. It sounds really stressful but I'm sure just comes with practice and a rhythm
Thank you for the shoutout for annabelles!! I’m so glad you love them they really are so soft people don’t believe it till they actually feel them! Same with our blankets! Hope to see people come check them out and get some and get more! You rock those gray camo! And you are the sweetest thank you and thank you for being you!
Do you have advice for keeping your hands healthy as a barista? My hands keep cracking and I'm trying to be careful and moisturize them after my shift but nothing is seeming to work. Where I work now, I can't have my nails done, but whenever I leave I'd like to be able to go to a nail salon without having messed up horror movie looking hands :I
KatShad quality rubber gloves. Takes a while to get used to them but a nice black pair makes you look even more professional. Had the same problems, got very painful but that did the trick to me
Aquaphor healing ointment. It will look like Vaseline but im telling you this SAVED my hands. I worked in a tortilla factory/restaurants and my hands were in gloves for hours at least 8 every day max 13 hours a day and they would sweat inside the gloves so I had to wash them every time I put a new pair on. My hands got so dry and messes up that the tops on my hands were itchy, red and even peeling my knuckles were all red too and they hurt so bad I almost quit my job because it was terrible and my coworker brought a big tub of aquaphor for both of us to use during work and girl!!! Instantly my hands felt and looked better a week passes by and my hands looked lime I'd never worked a day in my life! Before it looked like I had eczema on my hands
Jenny, I'm already using Aquaphor LOL but I'm glad it worked so well for you! It really helps alleviate the pain from my existing dryness and splits of the skin but my hands will still get new cracks. I already have very dry and sensitive skin so I'm wondering if that is part of why it is so bad. (Found out a few days ago our cleaning gloves have small holes in them so I'm actually still getting chemicals from that on my hands on top of constantly washing them..)
When I am not diligent about moisturizing my hands, my hands get dry to the point of peeling, cracking & bleeding. The lotion I use to fix it is Gold Bond Ultimate Skin Therapy Lotion - Healing With Aloe. 10/10 recommend!!
yes we do! some people do vanilla lavender lattes, or honey and lavender. Also an iced tea with lavender is good too! I've even had people order lavender Italian sodas!
Do you work at Starbucks? Like a smaller one? Or is it just a local small coffee shop? The building doesn't seem big lol And thanks for making this video, you showed that you can do things if it's not busy. It also shows us that everything IS in fact clean! Also this made me respect baristas so much more! Another question, what's the point of having two windows? Do you run back and forth? And do you always work alone, or is their other people sometimes? Is there a place to eat inside where you work? 😂😂I work at McDonalds & this video even helped me! And sry for all the questions 😂😂
hahaha thats ok! No its not Starbucks, its a small local business. We just have two windows for efficiency, to help two customers at a time. It can get kind of busy!
I always do about 3 drinks at a time too! Sometimes when it’s super busy and I’m the only certified barista on the floor, I have two milks steaming and all my three shots pulling while making a blended drink smh lol! I need to stop before I get in trouble 😂
Did you say YWAM? (Youth With A Mission) Right? I've heard of them and a lot of my friends did them too, How long along was yours? My friends did that same one two years ago or so.
Garrett and Tay wow.. update, you work at the one I thought you did ✌🏼 I am now so much more interested haha I am gonna have to come get a drink from you
This makes me want to quit Starbucks and work at a local stand lol love the no uniform
I love how positive you are. I just started a job in a cafe and finding it so hard learning all the drinks, but your positivity and love for your job give me motivation!
You make being a barista look so easy! Everytime I try to make any coffee, it tastes horrible. 😂
haha comes with practice!
i hope every drive thru coffee place cleans as thoroughly as you do
From my experience, they really don't. Haha most of them aren't that clean
Haha I’d sure hope so! Coffee shop I work at we make sure everything is super clean and sanitized. That’s how any coffee shop is. Cause I know they do have rules to follow.

yes!! most people are ok with being patient if you talk to them first!
I use to work at a 2 drive thru window coffee hut and we always had a business and it was stressful but also relaxing because you can just do your own jam and work at your own pace. People left my line all the time too, but it is what it is.
It's great to see you retain training you have already received in your young life, and taken it with you to create your dream.
Thank you for touching on the window question I asked about! Since I’ve asked I’ve worked a big event so I kinda figured out what worked for me and a lot of it you said you do too so that makes me feel better knowing I can handle it now and you and I do that same things! 😅

Isn't it unsanitary to use the same cloth to wipe the table and the tap of the milk which touches directly to all of the milk that's given?
I always do about 3 drinks at a time too! Sometimes when it’s super busy and I’m the only certified barista on the floor, I have two milks steaming and all my three shots pulling while making a blended drink smh lol! I need to stop before I get in trouble 😂
