    More than a Norway-thing this was mostly a "Nordic-country"-thing as we all have a very similar system. But the real reason Norway in the end tops the lists out of all of us is because of their ridiculously abundant natural resources (as well as a very safe geographical location) which, when combined with careful and well thought-out use, gives the concrete results we see here, as well as the relaxed mindset that just keeps on feeding the already well-doing system. As a fellow Nordic I must clap for you because our country will never be able to get as far as yours.

    Norway is the best country to live in, I do agree! I live ther for 16 years and no regret. Yes, Norway is just like other countries too, it has pros and cons. It is a boring country. But we earn a lot so, we can spend money abroad. I often travel to neighbouring country like UK or Sweden for a weekend. And it's not a big deal for us. While the avarage people got to save for a whole year to travel abroad, but not for norwegians. They can travel abroad 2-4 times a year. We pay tax, and we love to do so. Scandinavians mentality in paying tax is really different than other countries. They realize the country needs money to develop and and to live a decent life.

      Yeah, a lot of Western European countries (the ones that have been in the UE most years) are more or less similar. Even Spain and Italy, in spite of the crisis. But the welfare state of the Northern countries is superior to the rest. We should copy it or move there lol

      well in Croatia we have low- paid jobs so taxes are to high for majority of people. (they are to high anyway,in spite of the crisis.Even some well off countries dont have them that high).We will never have fully free health care , even our doctors are running out because they are paid poorly.The only solution is to open private clinic but than its even more expensive for people.In my country nothing is free.Government and your bosses
      steal wherever they can.You work but you dont know will you get payment next month.there are laws but if you have money you can get away.everything is corrupt.

    • @bibicoco87
      @bibicoco87 8 лет назад

      Tran Dieu Tran
      Well, it's high because the country is poor and they need to gain money from somewhere. The problem is that also most of the people are poor, so we feel like everything is expensive. But in reality, stuff in Hungary are not expensive, but our salary are low (that's why we feel like everything is expensive)! Foreigners always say that Hungary is not expensive, for them stuff are cheaper here, because their salary is higher than Hungarian salaries, they can buy anything easily. I don't know where do you want to go to university, but if it's Budapest then yes, Budapest is much more expensive than other parts of our country, food and lodging are expensive, too.

    The taxes are kind of ridiculous. if it was just your salary tax, it would be okay, but they always come up with more. if you buy a house now in Oslo with your money that you already got taxed 30-40% on, you have to pay yearly tax on your house (double tax) The Norwegian government also spends our tax money on useless things that hurts our economy. The elderly generation are happy spending a lot of money, while our young generation including me will probably not have half of that. Our oil and gas are running out fast, and we don't know what to do.

It's quite common for people from poor Eastern European countries to come to the Nordic countries during the summer to beg on the streets.

    Well, there is nothing called "the best country". Nordic countries and some other European countries may have a high quality of life in terms of basic human needs and essential human rights but they fall short of supplying with social and emotional needs such as need for belonging. Because of their over-individualistic cultures, the societal problems fall behind the issues related to lives of individuals in many European and some other Western countries. They fail to meet the social needs of individuals without social and moral values, with no attempt to understand the importance of the concepts of family and conjugal community and so on. People don't care about their parents and other relatives anymore but they almost get ill if they happen to be away from their pets for two days. Of course there can be situation-specific reasons for all these problems but these have long been very common in Northern Europe and North America. Highest rates of suicide belong to some countries with high quality of life such as Finland, Sweden, Japan, and Hong Kong. Suicide rates and high quality of life are not directly related, of course, but it is obvious that there is some kind of correlation between them. High quality of life is not necessarily enabled through things which require money.

      Spot on. Exactly what I think, especially the following bit: "Because of their over-individualistic cultures, the societal problems fall behind the issues related to lives of individuals in many European and some other Western countries."

      Nordic countries do not have some of the highest suicide rates in the world, it's a myth based off of Finlands suicide rates 20-15 years ago. Check your sources.
