I just filled my hot tub with fresh water. I have well water with high iron & manganese and forgot to turn the water softener on. When I added the chlorine the water turned black. I had to drain it and clean the entire hot tub then refill with the water softener on. All is well. A lesson learned. Thanks for the video.
I've never winterized my hot tub either, but I've only had it since February of this year. I got it used (it was inside before) but there was some water trapped inside of some pipes even though it was drained and it froze and cracked them. It took me a lot of work to get those fixed with no experience. I would recommend that if you are going to drain it and if the temperature gets to below freezing for extended times (say 6-8 hours which is how long pipes in your house can freeze). I would just not winterize personally, but if you're somewhere cold like I am, or moving it, keep it in mind. Should use chapters in your videos if it's not too much work. This is a great spot for them to breakup each question (give or take on the length of them).
Welcome back !! Have been waiting for my on order hot tub for almost 20 months and should finally be getting it in the coming weeks. Your videos have been welcoming for the information you provide and your viewpoints. I look forward to your content being back and the information and experience you provide to us.
Congrats on the soon to be tub. A word of advice from a 2 year owner. Don’t put all kinds of crazy stuff in it. There are so many products like enzyme eaters, clarifiers, scale removers etc…I used to use it ALL thinking i was being perfect but actually I was ruining the water adding in too much crap. Just worry about sanitizer, shock, oh levels and hardness. Have fun!
Hi Jeff, from East Yorkshire, England. Thanks for your very informative vids. We bought a £5000, 300 gallon tub in July which is hard wired and was installed by the company. Where we live, we are surrounded by older retired people, I'm 64 and retired but don't regard myself as old. So when the tub was up and running, within a week I was getting moans from my neighbours about noise. To be neighbourly, I foolishly turned my tub daily filtration program right down. Result, poor water quality, from which, I got a skin reaction, the wife is fine. So following your vids, going way back, last friday I drained, cleaned out, refilled with new filter. Our water is very hard, so I got a 14" cassette filter to run my filling water through, so the tub reading is between 250 to 500 dH, and TA, pH and CHl are spot on. Only downside to the refill, I reckon it's cost me about £40 in electric. Thanks again, Steve.
I was watching your video about 6 things that shocked you with your first spa and you said theres no products for the alkalinity, you can actually use sodium bicarbonate to raise the total alkalinity, in Australia the leading chemical brand Hy-Clor sells it as alkalinity increaser
