2:24 "The head controls the shoulder, so if u level the head too quickly then the shoulders are going to level". Only now I understand the importance of this lesson... you analyze perfectly my issues during the serve.. I'll practice soon your suggestions.. Great Master Tomaz!
As always, the best tennis coaching/teaching available online. There ARE other good channels/sites that cover technical, but Coach Tomaz's approach to his choice of topics is unique and HIGHLY effective. This video and his How to Effortlessly Generate Powerful Tennis Serves should be required viewing for all players learning how to serve. Thank you, Tomaz, for all your efforts.
Best explanation of the shoulder over shoulder rotation I've ever heard. My coach has been trying to get me into this axis but I didn't understand...now I do.
I have read and watched videos about tennis serves but my serves were very inconsistent esp. my 2nd serve. I was tempted to purchase an online serve instruction by another you tuber coach but after watching this video my serves were much better and consistent, and all this for FREE! Thank you coach Tomaz! Much respect and gratitude from the Philippines.
Wow! This is one of the best serve videos that I've watched in awhile - and I've watched a lot! Thanks Feel Tennis, very good and just what I needed to see!
Simple as that... Wow.. thank you again.. I just started to play tennis for a month.. but my coach was surprised on the knowledge and technique I am trying to do and use during practice... He said developing the proper form is not easy and will take time. But he added that its the key to be a better player and better way to enjoy the sports more and in return less injuries and more progress
Great Tom, as always. I think: 1) this will help you avoid injuries, because you´re not stressing your shoulder joint. 2) many people (like me) struggle with topspin and kick serves, and this shoulder over shoulder is essential for those.
Cleaner hit, super important. This will help my son reduce some miss-hit on his serve. I've been trying to tell him to keep his eyes on the ball, but your shoulder trick is a good one. Thank you very much, Tomaz!
Great video. Simple explanation of something so many miss. Key is to 'keep your head up'...which you mentioned a few times. If you drop your head, you'll open your shoulders too soon and lose the kinetic chain.
I actually tried this technique and wow, massive difference. like angela said, the hit was cleaner and the ball has a nice dive into the box. thanks for the video
Thanks for this one, Tomaz. I tried this out for the first time today and felt immediate benefit. I'm going to keep working with it. I've been working on "staying up" through contact but hadn't quite thought of it this way before. The concept has clicked well on my initial attempts.
This was very helpful and not often discussed in service instruction. If you look at slow motion video of Pancho Gonzales and Pete Sampras you see this hitting shoulder up while tossing arm shoulder is down during the contact and initial follow through. This action allows the elbow up to stay up while the racquet head drops down before contact, and then the pronation of the racquet to take place during the hit in what is a bit of a unintuitive sideways swing, which is different than just describing the serve as a throwing motion. Thanks Btw- I think your demonstration of the serve would be more dynamic if you changed your service grip from what looks like a modified eastern forehand grip to at least a strong continental or even more of a backhand grip. Thanks Steve
Hello Tomaz Thanks to your video I gain 10 km instantanely in my serve and I break the wall of the 150 km/h. I also appreciate your video about the connecting body. My problem is the fact than my serve is less efficient with the legs than without. Do you have a video of you about this problem please. Thanks for all jeff from France
Interesting how in the good examples the trailing leg comes up so the shin is parallel with the ground. My teacher was trying to get me to do this, but I thought it was a bit forced. Watching this it looks like a good way to get the racket side of the body up to be higher than the other side.
Great tip Tomaz! I've been struggling to create pace with my serve, some days I get it some I don't. Today I spent 1 hour practicing my serve with the shoulder over shoulder and it went great. I also realized that I had done it before, but without knowledge, so I was not consistent. Hopefully it won't be a honeymoon training session and I can start to develop my serve as a weapon and not a handicap.
Unfortunate I can't find a way to watch the video. I read the article on the website though. Will practice it ASAP. Thanks again for I'm sure this will help the slight shoulder pains
I like these lessons. Often it is necessary to exaggerate techniques when teaching. Many instructors are great players but it's sometimes hard to notice what they are getting at because they do everything so naturally.
A good serving motion seems to me to "see saw" or teeter-totter" the shoulders. For a right-handed serve, then, the left shoulder is lifted with the toss and then the right shoulder "see saws" up to the ball while the left shoulder just naturally drops.
I know this is an old video but i hope you can answer my question! I know you are not a doctor, but I am having a lot of shoulder pain with my serve lately, do you think my serve being like hers (before correction) could be a cause for pain? I've noticed lately as my serve has increased a lot in pace that i have felt like i am going to injure it if i play a match longer than an hour and i am only 27 with no previous injuries. Just curious before i spend so much time adjusting my serve
I usually like this coach a lot, but this time I must criticise him. A lot of the old-teach was telling you how to work on positions/moves/finishes that are actually the EFFECT of another, correct technical aspect of a stroke. In this case, coach is falling into that trap. He's telling you that it's "desirable" to finish with the slanted shoulder, but he's not telling you that all pro players finish like that because of something else they are doing. Which is the opposite of what the student in the video is doing. Her arm is so stiff at the end... the pros launch a perfectly relaxed arm up like a sling, and the "X" our shoulders paint in the air is the same that pitchers in baseball use... Actually the baseball analogy is perfect to understand how the shoulder joint actually propels the arm up, but if the arm is not completely loose like spaghetti nothing will happen right, including the "desirable" slanted shoulder. If you hit the ball up, as you're hopping up, with the correct amount of pronation, you WILL end up doing an "X" shoulder over shoulder movement.
R_Panda thank you for your comment. I appreciate it. I was just trying to help like many of these online coaches have helped me... over the last 15 years I perfected my understanding of the serving technique and now I have a 120 mph serve, at 60 years old!;-)

Amazing video. This is the only video on the entire internet that talks about shoulder over shoulder. Very important. Thanks Tomaz

Hand down the best video on RUclips about serving. I have been looking for this for a long time !!

I was amazed how much this tip helped my serve. Thank you!
This felt worlds better on my shoulder and gave me more pace on my serve as well. Thanks
I think this is the best instructional videos on tennis. Well explained mechanics of strokes.
You are correct again....this is obvious with Sampras and Federer's service motion.
Hat's off to you again.
Wow! This is one of the best serve videos that I've watched in awhile - and I've watched a lot! Thanks Feel Tennis, very good and just what I needed to see!

Many thanks for you, Tomaz. It is a great lesson for the most difficult part in tennis.
Cleaner hit, super important. This will help my son reduce some miss-hit on his serve. I've been trying to tell him to keep his eyes on the ball, but your shoulder trick is a good one. Thank you very much, Tomaz!
Love your instruction. Sometimes tennis is very counter intuitive and you have clarified a lot with your serve videos. Thank you Tennis Feel.
Great video. Simple explanation of something so many miss. Key is to 'keep your head up'...which you mentioned a few times. If you drop your head, you'll open your shoulders too soon and lose the kinetic chain.

I will practice tommorow this technique.
Good.
I like the shoulder over shoulder move because it creates a longer lever which goes from the COP to the left deltoid.

Very good. It also comes with the CLear shot concept--body into the ball.

You gave me another good skill for the better serve.
You are an amazing coach!!!
Great video! What is the role of the tossing shoulder?
He has been awesome and made serve really easy👍👍
I had to stop after 2 minutes of this video just to say you're a genius
thanks, this is great advice, have to try it next time on the court.
Tomaz thank you so much. This must be one of the things that is making my serves to hit the net
Tomaz, once again a great video. On any topic I end up with one of your video as the best on that subject. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
As always, you made it simple again :). Thank you
Thank you very much ❤️ You know your trade 😉 Very, Very important lesson !!! I am very grateful for your channel👍🏻

Hello, So we have to maintain the hips sideway longer no ?
您的视频非常好, 看了又看!
+zhixiong lin Translation: Your video is terrific, I have watched it over and over!
Useful drill.
Unfortunate I can't find a way to watch the video. I read the article on the website though. Will practice it ASAP. Thanks again for I'm sure this will help the slight shoulder pains
Not sure why the video won't play for some, it must be some youtube thing that I cannot control. Hope it gets resolved soon.
another excellent tipthank you
Great tips I love it.
video working ok for me. good tips

Very good, actually this tip allows the arm pronation which is essential to generate power.

Thanks for good tips. Is this applicable to both flat serve and kick serve or kick serve only? Btw, will you come back to SGP for coaching?
Applicable to all serves. No plans for SG at the moment...
another great vid
This happens automatically when powering the serve more with the left (front) side, especially the left hip.
excellent
I always find myself coming back here to Tomaz to get shit really broken down for me.
Tomaz @ Singapore Kallang Tennis Center.
I love this channel, but I'm so jealous of the people who get personal instruction from Tomaz
5:09 left: murray, right: federer
Wait the first few mins is not shoulder over shoulder why ???
Marin Cilic crooked neck technique
Simplemente St Thomas
Video not playing server error
We cant watch the video
Doesn't work the video
I can't see it connection to server lost !!!!!!
Is she leylah fernandez?

Sorry, but it seems you didn't understand the intention of the video.
I hope you read what I said. You might find it interesting.
@@RomanoAmericano Your OP was a great response to the video and explanation of what the coach is trying to get across here.
R_Panda thank you for your comment. I appreciate it. I was just trying to help like many of these online coaches have helped me... over the last 15 years I perfected my understanding of the serving technique and now I have a 120 mph serve, at 60 years old!;-)
angela looks like a winner
Hmmmmmmmmm if your properly naturally pronating, your elbow will be naturally higher than your wrist on the follow through hmmmmmmm
Be careful foot fault pls
I am not playing points, I am demonstrating serve technique. There is no foot fault in training.
she actually has a better serve than the instructor
As always, you made it simple again :). Thank you
Doesn't work the video
try not to play in HD, maybe 480p
As always, you made it simple again :). Thank you
