  • Greetings All ! In today's video I make a scrap quilt out of stitch and flip blocks. This quilt was inspired by Kris O'Neill's series "Lessons from and Old Quilt."
These are links to the two videos that inspired this quilt:
    • Lessons from an Old MO...
    • Lessons from a Vintage...
This is Kris's tutorial that I mention:
    • Stitch and Flip Quilt ...
And this is the series playlist:

I must say that many people avoid using up scraps, but I actually kind of love it. I came home with a whole tub of scraps and yardage of someone else's stash and projects. My husband dumped the entire lot into the wash, and I later saw it as a mess of tangled scraps and strings. He did come and help me untangle the mess and hang it all up on our 3 clothes lines. All dried now, Sorting and ironing and trimming to come soon. The pieces that feel to be poly blends are going to be used for the foundation pieces, but some of them are just too nice to hide away. We have lost so many people in the last few years with Covid and the resulting isolating, but I have been so lucky to rescue some of the stashes like this one and turn them into quilts. Among the scraps, were probably over 20 yards of rolled and folded yardage. Everyone should ask and look for these lots. So sad to dump all these collections into landfills.

ok so I have an idea for you!! Thrift stores are a great place to get fabric! Not only is it less expensive but the planet is happier. AND sheets and shower curtains (yes, there are gorgeous 100% cotton shower curtains with wonderful designs/colors) that are made of really good quality cotton. Over the years I have bought a lot of fabric (mostly clearance bin at joann) but most of my work is from second hand fabric. It is great! BTW, I love most the GEE's BEND quilters so I am not a fussy 'make the points match' kind of quilter...!
Really enjoy watching your process. - usa

Good to see another young man using some talent and imagination and little effort and stick to'ivness and create something so useful and perhaps recycled or used instead of filling the landfills. Love the sashing of half blue and half black,..good way to use up some stash. Enjoyed your LAID BACK ATMOSPHERE....you were having fun,....and believe me you had me at "oh no, I sewed two together".......I must say in all of my dozens of years quilting, I admit I have done that on more than one occasion, LOL....Keep up the good work...this was my FIRST VIEW of your studio. Congrats...from an ole Gramps Guy in Fl.

WOW, I also was drowning in scraps and so much material from old clothes, too! made some crazy quilt pillows and my first scrap "rail fence" quilt. STILL have piles of scraps. This one looks so fun. I always grab good quality sheets from the thrift stores to cut up for foundation pieces. AND I think I will also use them as backing for the quilt, too... SO cheap, and "eco" and all... putting things to use that otherwise will be throw away!~
