I started watching your channel - 2015 I think it was. Watched for the years coming and then drifted away. Seeing these new "exploratory" missions, hidden suburban or abandoned lakes and what not, has me checking back every other day to see if you have posted something new! Keep getting er done. Much love from Queensland, Australia.
I live 5 min from the pond/river. From what I understand, the dam was malfunctioning last year, but the dam operators told the town that they had fixed it or at least it was going to be operational. Come spring, the mechanism that opens and closes the dam was not working, and they told the town they would have to try and fix it again. It became clear though that the fix was not going to be easy or at least quick, and basically the pond would be dry all summer. There are a few parks that operate on the river, and Dundee Park that runs a summer camp and beach with passes that people bought. To say the locals and town were not happy would be an understatement. That being said, once it fills back in, I think the fish and wildlife will return within a few short years. Plenty of life in the river and below and above the dam.
Jon, you could film grass growing and I would watch it. Your editing style is top of the class and is the reason most of us still watch you after all this time. You have evolved into a film maker. Keep making films, and I will keep watching them.
We were there this summer. We usually fish below the upper dam, snorkeling for crayfish to use as bait for smallies, but that was obviously impossible this year. North Gorham Pond, above Dundee, has the remains of a railway line running through it. It also is loaded with largemouths and smallies, with a small salmon population from spillover from the river above. Anyway, I've been meaning to write for a while, suggesting Upper Pug and Lower Pug Lakes, near Lakeville, Maine. Upper Pug has no public access but I have a friend who has a cabin there - maybe we could go sometime next summer. Lower Pug is accessible via a short trail through the woods that's wide enough to get in kayaks or a canoe. Both have large populations of very large smallies. It seems like the average size on both is around two pounds, and we were consistently getting fish in the 3-4 range. Anyway, loved the video. Thanks.
Man I loved this video. I'm from Illinois, but I did have this same type of experience when I was in Texas 10 years ago, with a dried lake due to drought. It was really cool to explore, and catch a few fish in the remaining water
As a younger man, much younger, I fished lots of little ponds. In NW Wis, the rivers were straightened due to logging. That created small ponds, small creeks, just incredible fishing. Add a few beavers and you have an ecosystem that hadn't existed before logging. They're still there, still full of fish. Usually only locals know where, and how to access. It's my favorite WI fishing, just south of the massive Chippewa Flowage system. Sure you've fished Hayward before, if not it's a bucketlister.
If you’re still in New England, hit up Goose Pond in Canaan, NH. Lake was slowly drained to repair the dam. Ive caught multiple 7lb largemouth there when it was full, and it also holds the state record for smallmouth. I’ve been trying to get there, but kids have put a real slow down in my fishing routine!
As a Mainer who lives a couple minutes from there, this dam break ruined my good trout and Atlantic Salmon this spring just down stream from where you were. Happy to give you some good places in that area for great content. Atlanta salmon run and sea run browns are awesome near there in the spring.
Great video, really enjoyed it. I think you’re correct about the reason for the Tide jug. I hope that place makes a full recovery and then you’re able to go back to it so we can experience it.
I would love to see more vids like this. Exploring the wilderness, spreading information about different ecosystems/habitats all while trying to catch fish.
Thankfully you escaped the snapping turtle eating up your lure, I had one hit a topwater lure too! It's such a weird fight, fights and wiggles a little but mostly feels like a 10-15 pound log
Looks like a great place to metal detect and lure hunt. The bottom cover in that pond was awesome. Looks like it would have held some monsters at one time. Hope it fills back up someday.
Do you do like tutorial-type videos? If so I think you should do a video on how to fish different artificial baits (if you already have please let me know). Essentially how to work the rod. Nice video!
Fletchers pond, Hillman Michigan. Fletchers landing has historic photos of when they were clearing all the trees from the lake. Sick spot, this video reminded me of it!
Come visit Lake Lure whenever you can! It's a beautiful lake in North Carolina, just 10 minutes from where I live. Unfortunately, it was recently impacted by a hurricane, which has set things back. I've been trying to catch a 10-pound fish here for years but haven't had any luck. I truly believe that your presence could bring some positive change to the lake after this major setback.
Love the video. I just want you to know that even though youtube is full of fishing videos, you bring more to the table then most. Your channel is definitely one of my favorites. Keep up the good work I enjoy them all!
Wow. New Englander finding out about Dundee drawdown from a dude from Texas. I've only fished there once three years ago, mostly in the southwest cove right off the dam. Bites, no catches, but below the dam in the river I caught a bunch of smallies in the fast current. Jig heads and twirl-tail grubs.
There’s a creek very similar to this in Nashville. Called hurricane creek. The nation guard built a dam to make it a lake back in the 70s but it failed. Now when it’s not rained awhile the water is down and I do some great bass fishing.
I'd like to see you guys do more on the west coast. Maybe do some salmon or sturgeon fishing too. Yet to see any of the googan guys do a video in CA, OR, or WA.
You’re doing great man, I’m loving the content. Especially the one off random gems. I do have to say I like the dam less area more than a damned pond. But I don’t live there nor grew up to see what it could have been. So, if it was my environment I would like the change of scenery. Thanks for the vid
You basically fished a unicorn body of water for Maine.. thanks for sharing. Seeing a bed that dry didn’t look like Maines ecosystem haha very desert like
Dang… it’s wild to see how barren that is now. Crazy to see how much stuff was on the bottom. Crazy that’s a pond to you haha. It’s a little lake to me 😂
Thank you for bringing us along on this very cool adventure. Please do some more like maybe return as it is filling up make ot like a three part something.
Since I was a kid, I've been fascinated with drained lakes and ponds. Thanks for taking me along. If you ever want to take a split bamboo rodmaker up to your place in Maine...
Yoooo Jon, been watching the channel for quite a long time and I am a Mainer. You should definitely try to fish sturtevant stream or the anderscoggin river. They are both chalked full of monster smallmouth and pike, we have a campsite right on sturtevant and it’s the best place I’ve ever fished.
Probably a good thing the place has gone back to how it was before humans touched it. The fish got used to it but they'll also get used to not having all the stumps etc there.
Jon B please take your rod and reel from Peric and go catch a bluefin! That would be an awesome video. Then please surf fish in Gulf Shores Alabama and then do some inshore fishing right there. Come to Alaska and float the upper kenai and down some rainbow and lake trout fishing.
I’d love for you to come down to Sanford Maine and try mousam lake a try I’ve got tons of spots at lakes in the area and a spot where we caught a 7 pound beast
Still hoping the day comes when Jon and Googan make a 5pc micro jerkbait kit for small steams and rivers. Smallmouth, walleye, trout, crappie and pickerel. Be so sick.
Go back there next spring after snow melt... show the difference as it refills... then next fall, then the spring after... document it coming back to life
John love your content been watching it for years. You should come down to south Texas and fish the bay with me. I just became a guide and I would love to put you on some trophy speckled trout down south.

I like this grown-up jon a lot. Thanks for all the work over the years.
More videos like this. This is the kind of fun stuff I like to see. Everyone in the world is filming bass fishing on bass boat vids, this is fun.
The videopgraphy from jon is unmatched.
All your videos are top tier. Best fishing channel on RUclips by far!
Cool video Jon! I hope this pond can make a quick recovery but it is nice to see that the fish and wildlife are still thriving!

Hopefully when they rebuild that old dam they add in a good fish ladder for the salmon.
That's my point the river would be healthier if they removed the dam!!! Dams always do more harm than good!!!

Dat outtro music.... Caleb is jammin'.... I'd love to see more kayak videos in Maine.
Great video, really enjoyed it. I think you’re correct about the reason for the Tide jug. I hope that place makes a full recovery and then you’re able to go back to it so we can experience it.
Windham, Maine gang stand-up
Can confirm Maine snapping turtles do love top water poppers
Testament to the quality of Googan lures .. a snapping turtle couldn't break it!! Cheers
I would love to see more vids like this. Exploring the wilderness, spreading information about different ecosystems/habitats all while trying to catch fish.
No more vids with AP bassin? The dog shock collar video was hella funny!👍
Loved the vid man. Love these adventures! Just got off shift. A bit bummed you didn’t throw the fly rod around!
Very interesting, One thing I like is your variety and the information you impart.
Thankfully you escaped the snapping turtle eating up your lure, I had one hit a topwater lure too! It's such a weird fight, fights and wiggles a little but mostly feels like a 10-15 pound log
Jon I pulled out a 6.2 out of there a month ago it was a crazy spot mid summer. So sweet to see you fish where I pulled my pb from!
Crazy times brother fr
As a Mainer myself. I loved this video but then again. I love all your Maine stuff. Any more China content coming?
😂 china 🇨🇳 you mean Japan 🇯🇵
@@Daiwa_Is_King nope! China lake in Maine. It’s about 4 miles from my house and an awesome fishery. I’m guessing camp claw is about 2 hours away.
Looks like a great place to metal detect and lure hunt. The bottom cover in that pond was awesome. Looks like it would have held some monsters at one time. Hope it fills back up someday.
70s P stache.... lmfao 😂.

Be great to see you doing more salt water species

You should do meeting tell them to fix the dam and stuff
Ever near Sebago again! lets go fishing!!!
I agree Jon, about the float laundry bottle with the metal rod.
I hope you do a follow up on this pond!

Always good content! Keep up the good work!
One mans dried up pond is one mother natures intention 🎉😂😅
Check out Medina lake over in Bandera Texas. It’s so low right now and seeing all the areas that were underwater are crazy.
Definitely a marker for shallow water or a stump in this case see a lot of em up here in northern Ontario to mark shoals and rocks
good vid jon b

Fish the stumps 😂 👀
Still hoping the day comes when Jon and Googan make a 5pc micro jerkbait kit for small steams and rivers. Smallmouth, walleye, trout, crappie and pickerel. Be so sick.
Duo realis and Megabass make the best little jerkbaits and bfs cranks
Go back there next spring after snow melt... show the difference as it refills... then next fall, then the spring after... document it coming back to life
“ little pond “😂
John love your content been watching it for years. You should come down to south Texas and fish the bay with me. I just became a guide and I would love to put you on some trophy speckled trout down south.
It turned back into a river, of course there’s fish in it lmao
How good of a spot would that spring be once it’s full again
