Only redeeming feature that I could think of to save this would be a transitioning loading animation upon successful login to the character selection screen. (Ex: The cracks in the wall ignite and grow, shattering the wall to reveal your character screen.)
In FF14 there's an option where you can set the login screen to be any of the expansions, and for it to play that expansion's opening cinematic if you let the screen idle for too long. WoW would benefit from simply copying this feature. It's not a big thing, not at all. But for me... I would prefer to switch it up occasionally. All that being said, nobody's going to look back at this 3 years from now and say "It was pretty good... but that login screen just ruined the expansion for me"
I don't mind it either, but one thing they could do is even with the 2.5 seconds login, maybe animate it like in Warcraft 3. It's a wall with cracks, but as you login it cracks away and you push forward right into the warband camp screen. It would feel like you're actually entering the world.
that fits Midnight way more. War Within should be somewhat Earth related even if we get more and more cosmic Void as the story progresses. Earth/Dwarven or even Sargeras' sword with moving clouds. Login screen should represent the overall expansion story, warband screen should represent the current patch (as fortnite menus with seasons)
Still remember seeing the Cata log-in during an art panel at Blizzcon one year. We were pretty impressed by Deathwing standing atop buildings in Stormwing (where he landed at the end of the cinematic). It wasn't as bombastic as Sindragosa on the Wrath screen, but it still conveyed the menace of the big bad. Sure, I don't get to see it much, but when I DC (which I still do) and have to log back in, it's nice to see something kind of interesting.
I think they were trying to roll with the "all the Worldsoul Saga logos are circles" thing they got going on, but it absolutely falls flat. Like a wall. With glowy cracks in it.
if i had to stare at this login screen for more than the average 2.5 seconds we do now, i might give an f. at this point i dont. sure its low energy, is this really an issue though?
its a sign of loss of quality. really started with Dragonflight when the community had to tell blizzard to put a dragon in their login screen for their Dragon-themed expansion smh
I only see the login screen when my login fails, I really don't care about it at all. It might as well be a white page with two boxes and grey login button lol
Loading screens aren't that big a deal but this honestly looks like a fan-made screen, and not a good one either. Loading screens in WoW have always felt expansive. There were so many ways they could've done this, including showing the vast cavern with that sun crystal thing. A static screenshot of Hallowfall with the zeppelin flying overhead would've been better than this. Thanks Blizz, now I have to cope by once again reminding myself you're just a small indie company.
I think it just feels flat. The other login screens sold you on there being a world out there to explore, whether through a portal or just something you could see stretching out behind the login stuff. This one doesn't really do any of that. Obviously there's a bit of symbolism with the shattering globe but I need a bit more than that.
Thanks guys, agree, they are doing better overall, but yeah the new login screen seems like a bunch of behind the scenes dropped balls...., great stuff you guys are putting out, thanks, :)
You just click "Enter World" and you're on your character instantaneously? I have a pretty decent computer and I have a loading screen, although short.
I like it, it creates a sense of mystery. Like we actually don’t know what going to happen and that’s almost refreshing. That being said, the log in screen doesn’t mean a damn thing to me. I just hope the loading screens are nice
Honestly love this login in screen, think it looks great and is screaming at the players face "be ready for this to explode"! Think it's much better than DF and many of the others login screens.
i have a crazy idea: what if the big implications of the expansion to the overal lore are shown in the login screen. follow me: blizzard always uses colors on purpose - you need to see it. classic: its the ork POV comeing to azeroth. remember the eye colore tbc: obviously we going to outland. eye colore... woltk: war to get icecrown and kill arthas. eye colore... Cata: deathwind. earth fire "madness" (against titans), aspekts, elemental planes. eye colore.... MOP: genius hint at the end of the expansion where garosh dunks the heart into the well. nobody saw that comes from the title screen - did you? red crystals hm. dreanor: did you notice the eye colore change now? ;) probably no hint. giant lore hint with colore schemes here imho. Legion: i have theories that will be tested in twss - maybe similar to the shadowlands one or just a hint to the tumb of sargeras. why is Nature and Fel green but Life Red? BFA: death. "the win nobody noticed". feeding the maw. sad they didnt show any blood oldgod titan stuff but thats still Lore open for debate. SL: genius. it literally show you the VEIL in your face. we live in a prison. and TWSS will finally open your eyes. this reality is flawed. yellow orange + blue (radiant song colors) DF: the lore nobody noticed in your face. the titans always use water to spread the influence. with the literal halls of (odrder) infusion - they put order magic into the water and feed it to dragons. they are brainwashed by TYR - TYRHOLD. Even back in uldum it was clear water+titans = influence. now guess what the new one tells us: ;) i have giant hints for you. red crystals? yellow light from within? kinda funny - where is the azerite blue? titan strctured "box" - like maybe a veil around azeroth? ;) reminds me of Odin, halls of valor metal work but darker - less gold more---- bronce? why would that be? or the machines we use to.... ok to much speculation for today ;)
IMHO its a huge lore hint from blizzard. but we will see if i´m correct. when you start looking for patterns like Farim you will find them - and they will lead you to crazy ideas about the cosmology
THE SWORD IN SILITHUS!!! IT WAS SO OBVIOUS BLIZZ!!!! WHY?!?! WHY!?!?! Imagine the sword and clouds wrapping and parting around it either birds n shit. Maybe have a the lesge where Thrall and Anduin talked. I'm so disappointed. The log in screen really is important to the vibe and we players care about it.
Why didnt they make the login screen about Silithus and the sword with Thrall and Anduin standing further back. This login screen is low effort and an intern probly did it
Dragonflight was bit Weak, but the they added in Alexstrasza, and for me I was like Perfect! the stagnate, landscape was just there, but as soon as you added in Alexstrasza. It give your eyes something to focus on to break up the landscape. It pulled your eyes away from the login info. For me that was all they needed to do. TWW login screen honestly looks like it was done like Garrosh final death Cinematic. By an intern over the weekend.
An incredibly boring and uninspired login screen. Vanilla/TBC/WOTLK logins were WARCRAFT..... but I'm a vanilla andy, and I'm not Blizzard's audience anymore.
Yall are still whining about a screen that doesn’t matter. We want game play we want things to do. No one cares about the damn login screen of a video game. It’s hilarious to me that yall are saying everything is sooo much better in this expansion when it’s the same thing as shadowlands with different tweaks to values on the backend or removing some status effects from M+. It doesn’t change how the game is played. You still smash the same ability over and over again. You still are getting borrowed power from gear that won’t matter next expansion. You’re still doing mundane tasks like collect treasure chest to upgrade a reputation just like pandaria, BFA, shadowlands, and dragonflight. Just because they made it look like a battle pass and the vendor crap is locked to a specific number doesn’t change the dynamic. You needed honored in a faction before you can buy this item well now that’s level 30 on the battle pass. It seems like people that exclusively play MMO’s can’t see things for what they really are. Are you 9 and need to have your Fortnite skins to unlock gradually for you to feel like you accomplished something. I don’t like either system because it’s stupid. You meet a faction and the world will end unless you work together but we are going to keep you from having the resources wanted or needed to stop the threat. I need you to open 500 more chests, dig 300 more holes, and kill 2000 more trash mobs before I can let you buy this gear that’s way better than what you’re wearing and by the time you have done it your already playing in mythic or LFR/G so the gear is useless for anything other than trying to be the prettiest princess in the contest that none cares about.
They only got first look at beta login-screen and already whining on it while comparing with some 15-years old stuff. This is literally supreme toxic. Where in the world anybody cares of how beta login-screen looks alike to record 20-minutes analysis' video for RUclips channel? That's insane man
If the worst thing about a new expansion is the Login screen, I call that a W! I mean lets be real, if someone is sitting at the login screen its one of three reasons. 1. They're afk, and not even looking at the screen 2.They're alt tabbed anyways 3.Stuck in queue. Now obviously at launch that could somewhat matter... especially if this was 15+ years ago when most people had crappy internet. But today, if your in a queue, your most likely switching through tabs, so it really isnt that big of a deal, imo. So, I'd say "yea its not great, and they could obviously done better", but I would rather have the rest of the content be good than have an epic login screen. Be cool if we could have both, for sure, but I'd call it a overall win if its the worst part of the expansion.
You guys did so great lately with the wow clips, but this one is so forced that it actually hurts, physically. I had to stop in mid because I just wanted to break my arm off and smash my phone with it. I realise that lately you did only positive videos and it's ok really, you don't have to struggle so much to come up with a negative just for the sake of the wow hater andys. 🎉🎉🎉
Also a UI/UX designer. However is this regard is matters very little, the point of the login screen is nothing but a brief through put to the game. In this regard most ppl have their information saved and actually bypass it or see it for a fraction of a second. Making abit of a bigger issue of it then it truly needs to be this time guys :(
Log in screens are seriously one of my favorite parts of getting a new expansion. It’s literally something you’ll see everytime you log in and it sets a tone, especially when the expansion has first come out. At least give us a landscape man, this is EXTREMELY boring.
Having the sword be the center with the log in boxes over the blade, but in the foreground have Thrall and Anduin standing staring up at it and fulfilling that framing that they used in the past.
"Who cares it's the login screen?" Tell that to the Wrath login screen! Something people remember fondly from the expansion. Stop settling for less from a company you pay $15 a month to play their game!
I think it looks fine. It makes me think more about World Soul Saga than anything just War Within related. It doesn’t show you anything compared to other screens and that fits the theme of the conclusion of the World Soul Saga being far away.
The anti-thesis of design? The perfect example of what not to do? It's not THAT bad. Yeah the login going right on top of the most interesting part isn't great, but damn chill...

Legion was a good expansion with a crap login screen. I don’t necessarily have a problem with login screen discourse- but everyone brings this weird reverence to the conversation that feels unnecessary. You’re typing in your wow password not performing a sacred ritual
This is now the perfect time to bring in the personal choice option of your own x-pac log-in screen like it has been implemented in SCII for a very long time now!! 9:08
Normally I agree with you guys 100%, not this time. To me it does look like you have contrast inside of the circular image of azeroth there, the circle itself is a great frame (better than some of the others which don't really provide a clear frame, but more just surround the middle area with some barriers, eg the BFA one with the weapons buried in the ground). I think the problem with the loading screen is 1 the UI bug with the text boxes being so big, but more importantly, the text boxes are transparent which is hard on the eyes. If they were completely opaque, I think they would look perfect centered inside of TWW's logo, and the loading screen to me would be really really good. not just saying to be contrarian, I agreed with you guys wholeheartedly on the other video about the maps being weird
UI and Art team are no longer doing the heavy lifting. The new UI is SO BAD I am considering an extnernal UI addon, and i've kept it quite native SINCE VANILLA. WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO THE GAME
He's saying this because the only time you see the screen for longer then 3 seconds is if your internet sucks or you get disconnected. They made it simple because you go strait to the new warband screen, ya dorks lol
I'm amazed that most of the comments are "who cares that it's bad lol" What about people who want to try the game for the first time? First impressions matter, appearances matter. Do you think that graphic design or advertising is pure whim? What's next? "meh, it's just a small thing, what matters that an AI painted it, LOL" Let's not forget that we are paying this time more for the game. more money for more mediocrity. Only redeeming feature that I could think of to save this would be a transitioning loading animation upon successful login to the character selection screen. (Ex: The cracks in the wall ignite and grow, shattering the wall to reveal your character screen.)
I’m going to have a real hearty laugh when midnight has it be the exact thing but purple
A 17 minute video about a login screen? Insane.
If one of the biggest problems is the login screen I think we're in pretty good shape
Yeah! After all, there's always ... NEXT EXPANSION. >:D *laughs maniacally*
It doesnt screem war within all it screams is world of warcraft my ball is cracked.
In FF14 there's an option where you can set the login screen to be any of the expansions, and for it to play that expansion's opening cinematic if you let the screen idle for too long. All that being said, nobody's going to look back at this 3 years from now and say "It was pretty good... but that login screen just ruined the expansion for me"
Ah random would be fun haha
I would set it to the Vanilla one (for nostalgic reasons)
I don't mind it either, but one thing they could do is even with the 2.5 seconds login, maybe animate it like in Warcraft 3. It's a wall with cracks, but as you login it cracks away and you push forward right into the warband camp screen. It would feel like you're actually entering the world.
The mogu statues were probably guarding the mogu'shan palace and the springs behind them, not the whole vale :p
It should be a void background with xal'atath floating or sitting on a throne menacingly smiling at us.
that fits Midnight way more. War Within should be somewhat Earth related even if we get more and more cosmic Void as the story progresses. Earth/Dwarven or even Sargeras' sword with moving clouds.
Login screen should represent the overall expansion story, warband screen should represent the current patch (as fortnite menus with seasons)
I’m literally here to talk about nerdy nerd shit!

This is so not an issue
I think it looks dope, perfect imo.
if i had to stare at this login screen for more than the average 2.5 seconds we do now, i might give an f. at this point i dont. sure its low energy, is this really an issue though?
its a sign of loss of quality. really started with Dragonflight when the community had to tell blizzard to put a dragon in their login screen for their Dragon-themed expansion smh
This channel loves to make mountains out of molehills. I guess they want the clicks. They have really gone downhill.
In isolation, no it's not a huge issue. Broadly speaking, it's just another loss to the soul of WoW.
Lol they cant even get the loading screen right anymore
I only see the login screen when my login fails, I really don't care about it at all. It might as well be a white page with two boxes and grey login button lol
Loading screens aren't that big a deal but this honestly looks like a fan-made screen, and not a good one either. Loading screens in WoW have always felt expansive. A static screenshot of Hallowfall with the zeppelin flying overhead would've been better than this. Thanks Blizz, now I have to cope by once again reminding myself you're just a small indie company.
It honestly reminds me a temporary texture used in a test beta for a games login screen
theme song is also MID MID MID MID MID
I think it just feels flat. The other login screens sold you on there being a world out there to explore, whether through a portal or just something you could see stretching out behind the login stuff. This one doesn't really do any of that. Obviously there's a bit of symbolism with the shattering globe but I need a bit more than that.
but i really like it
Here's an idea, do it bg3 style. It opens up with a shot of the Isle of Dorn and then it pans down to underground, showing Hallowfall or Azj-Kahet.
I get it. Something that is related to what you do. And it is genuinely phoned in comparatively
People don't have enough to do if they are worried about this. This is farming for negatively.
Thanks guys, agree, they are doing better overall, but yeah the new login screen seems like a bunch of behind the scenes dropped balls...., great stuff you guys are putting out, thanks, :)
I love it.
I actually like the log in screen. I like the simplicity and it looks clean Almost like y'all are reaching for something to complain about.
😑
Exactly! You wont be looking at the login screen..... The gameplay is the point.
Its called farming for clicks.
I'll b honest. I haven't seen a loading screen for logging in since cata?
You just click "Enter World" and you're on your character instantaneously? I have a pretty decent computer and I have a loading screen, although short.
That's nice for you. You can sit over there while we talk about the screen.
@@Voffsing1 I log in through the Blizz Downloader. I never see the login screen.
Looks better at least than one half of the other login screens.
Honestly it looks more akin to cataclysm then war within
I like it, it creates a sense of mystery. Like we actually don’t know what going to happen and that’s almost refreshing. That being said, the log in screen doesn’t mean a damn thing to me. I just hope the loading screens are nice
Honestly love this login in screen, think it looks great and is screaming at the players face "be ready for this to explode"! Think it's much better than DF and many of the others login screens.
i have a crazy idea: what if the big implications of the expansion to the overal lore are shown in the login screen. follow me:

SL: genius. it literally show you the VEIL in your face. we live in a prison. and TWSS will finally open your eyes. this reality is flawed. yellow orange + blue (radiant song colors)
DF: the lore nobody noticed in your face. the titans always use water to spread the influence. with the literal halls of (odrder) infusion - they put order magic into the water and feed it to dragons. they are brainwashed by TYR - TYRHOLD. Even back in uldum it was clear water+titans = influence.

or the machines we use to.... ok to much speculation for today ;)
Just give me an entire expansion of void mommy smugly smirking at me every day when I log in. Totally down.
Loading screen sums up how I feel about TWW so far. Meh.
Look at it with a small version of the RUclips video player and it almost resembles an eye. I'm expecting it to blink any moment... LOL
IMHO its a huge lore hint from blizzard. but we will see if i´m correct.
when you start looking for patterns like Farim you will find them - and they will lead you to crazy ideas about the cosmology

TWW login screen honestly looks like it was done like Garrosh final death Cinematic. By an intern over the weekend.
They should make it blink!
Honestly, I think they are setting it up, it think it’s gonna change, it gonna morph at some point and be awesome
i got a bad feeling about war within. i hope the trading post and (maybe legion) remixes make up for it.
An incredibly boring and uninspired login screen. Vanilla/TBC/WOTLK logins were WARCRAFT..... but I'm a vanilla andy, and I'm not Blizzard's audience anymore.
I have no idea why they decided to make the login screen THIS boring. I'm hoping that there's more to it, or that this is an elaborate placeholder...
Yall are still whining about a screen that doesn’t matter. We want game play we want things to do. No one cares about the damn login screen of a video game. careful lads, Mark Kern got a lot of criticism for saying the same thing about Starfield
what a terrible loading screen.
The login screens have gotten progressively garbage post Cata
It lacks depth. Every log in screen has been a scene. Now its a wall. Simple as that
The should have taken the crystal/star thingy cut it in half and have one half of void and light on the sides of the ring
If the worst thing about a new expansion is the Login screen, I call that a W! I mean lets be real, if someone is sitting at the login screen its one of three reasons.

Give Blizzard a break, they're newcomers to game design.
Do people not log in through their bnet..? You barely ever see the log in screen anyway
In a nutshell, the further they have moved from the "Blue Oyster Cult album cover" look, the lamer they got. Checks out.
I can't believe we are still talking about this. This is the problem with trying to upload daily content about an expansion that is still months out.
Is this really a topic worthy of discussion? If so then we’re in for the best expansion ever
"Who cares it's the login screen?"
Tell that to the Wrath login screen! Something people remember fondly from the expansion. Stop settling for less from a company you pay $15 a month to play their game!
The loading screen has 0 impact on the expansion. Get over it!
Happily, you can just move on while we briefly discuss this facet of the expansion.
I dig the screen
Why haven't they removed the login screen and replaced it with just a background scene? We login with the battle net app...
If loading screen is the biggest whine of WW I think we good
Here's an idea for a login screen: What if the orb in the middle acts like it will crumble from void tentacles stabbing at it as a way to corrupt it? Another idea would be the animation of an earthquake which causes the orb to almost crumble after cracking.
Legion was a good expansion with a crap login screen. I don’t necessarily have a problem with login screen discourse- but everyone brings this weird reverence to the conversation that feels unnecessary. You’re typing in your wow password not performing a sacred ritual
imagine caring about the loading screen
This is now the perfect time to bring in the personal choice option of your own x-pac log-in screen like it has been implemented in SCII for a very long time now!! 9:08
Such a non-issue
You wont see it much ofc, but this one at least makes you feel like youre underground.
Well it is supposed to be the core of azeroth, it makes sense since we are going deep down inside azeroth. I think it looks ok.
It looks beautiful to me, and I feel like I'm going to an attraction of a theme park.
UI and Art team are no longer doing the heavy lifting. The new UI is SO BAD I am considering an extnernal UI addon, and i've kept it quite native SINCE VANILLA. WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO THE GAME
It's hilarious watching people whine about something they'll see maybe a dozen times over the course of an expansion.
People will see it every time they log in, dorkus.
Yeah because they’ll log in 12 times, level, and dip lmaoooo
You really didn't think this one through did you? 😂😂😂
Lol, dorkus
He's saying this because the only time you see the screen for longer then 3 seconds is if your internet sucks or you get disconnected. They made it simple because you go strait to the new warband screen, ya dorks lol
At least the music is amazing!
Much adieu about nothing.
i kinda like it lol
i could not care less about a log in screen
17 minute video
I love the login screen hope Blizzard ignore this…
I'm amazed that most of the comments are "who cares that it's bad lol"
What about people who want to try the game for the first time?
First impressions matter, appearances matter. Do you think that graphic design or advertising is pure whim?
What's next? "meh, it's just a small thing, what matters that an AI painted it, LOL"
Let's not forget that we are paying this time more for the game. more money for more mediocrity.
"oops the game keeps disconnecting me, now I have to look at this ugly screen over and over
WHO CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARES!"
