Also, nice video. There are training HEMA sabres that tend to sometimes mix and match grip forms with guard forms (which is partially due to catering to the sportier side of HEMA and partially due to allowing bigger gloves) so it's useful to have the different grips summarised in one quick video.
For the Italian sabre grip, the false edge cuts work well in two situations 1) cuts against the advanced target (particularly bottom of the arm) and 2) against the opponent's weapon (simple or grazing beat).
I'm more or less ran out but I still have a couple left for sale. The red bubble store may have them as well for sale. I have to check. Or you can check it out. The link is in the banner.
I am an aikijujutsu artist, and I am digging your channel. So many shared ideas between the arts. My nephew is in your hood, and a sword guy. I am trying to send him your way.
Arlow is a turn of the century fencing master who blended Italian and Hungarian methods. I have a translation offered, see the video description for a link.
"I can ticky tap with this almost as fast as a sport fencer can with a modern Olympic sabre." This is in no way meant to be a "gotcha," but I would definitely like to see it.

Excellent video! Best description of the strengths and weaknesses of different grips.
Musashi on grip. Tight pinkie and ring, medium middle and light floaty feeling index and thumb.
That grip makes a lot of sense for the Japanese saber, yes.
Very interesting. The Hussar grip is essentially how I was taught in koryu kenjutsu.
Nice I'll try this 'Hungarian' grip

Would love to have him!
Interesting
How much area on the grip do you need beyond your hand size? Is an inch on both sides of your closed grip too much for instance?
I hate to hit you with this, but "it depends." Consult your source for how they describe the grip.
Namaste🙏
You talked about Arlo(?) Who is that? Pardon my ignorance

Time allowing I'll throw you up a short. It's just leverage; anybody who can use fingers 3 and 4 as a fulcrum can do it
@@russmitchellmovement I'm excited! I'll try and compare it to my Oly sabre cut
@@PoorMansHEMA Short UL'ing now. Obviously it's not an S2000, but you can see the taptap.
