It's so refreshing to hear your views. We are in the minority but I have yet to see a dvd with bad quality. Don't get me wrong I have a whopping 3 blu rays ha and the quality is much better but dvd has always been good enough for me. I came from the VHS data so dvd blew my mind at the time. I also buy the movie for the movie. I've bought 80 percent of my discs from charity shops. I say discs as I bin the covers and keep them in sleeves
I wish they made the dvd cases slimmer and smaller similar to blu-rays so that storing them is easier, but putting them in sleeves is a good idea! I have never watched anything on blu-ray or 4k and I am sure I’m missing out but I feel like if something isn’t broke I don’t need to fix it just yet 😌
DVD's are still outselling BLU RAY'S for some reason I do pick up the odd DVD second hand and if i enjoy the movie and can see myself watching it again I'll hunt around for a cheap second hand Blu Ray to replace it and donate the DVD to a Op shop
I will eventually move to Blu-ray - the great thing about the players is that they also play dvds so there will be no need to convert all of my collection to another format unless as you said they are a favourite and I want a better copy 😊
Good on you for being cost conscious. I have personally over collected over the last 15 to 20 years but I have paid off my mortgage 16 Years ago regards Trevor
There's absolutely nothing wrong with dvd its a great cheap format that looks good. I have blu Ray's and 4ks but I still buy lots of dvds as well because its cheap and looks perfectly fine to me. Heck I even still buy vhs on occasion I don't need the best of the best to be able to enjoy something. Awesome vid 👍
I have been so tempted to collect vhs just for nostalgia sake! I think as long as your collection works for you then that’s the absolute best outcome! ☺️
Great subject I am a physical media collector and have a reasonable size collection. I also have a channel. I love to discuss these kinds of subjects and cover this in videos on my channel. Good video 👍
@@almostacinephile Thanks. Yep I didn't mind the film wasn't as bad as people were making out. It's all subjective at the end of day. Thanks for watching 👍
Again you made some good points about streaming and DVDs. I like having the best of both worlds, I like finding hidden gems on Netflix and sometimes films come straight to Netflix instead of being released in the cinema, then again some of these are rubbish so sometimes I prefer to turn to my physical media collection which is mostly DVDs and a few blu rays. I also want to keep adding to it, because there's some recent films that I really like, want to keep and that I don't want to hunt on streaming to get. I also sometimes like exploring the special features that DVDs offer and I think if I still lived on my own I might have started collecting posters but this seems too expensive when I'm currently living with my girlfriend and our 2 year old. I think I might also like to keep adding to it by getting some 2nd hand kids film in charity shops in CEX when my 2 year old is a bit older and can actually sit still during a film
I bought a curated collection with mostly horror (and some anime) all blu-ray's. 410 movies for 340 pounds the other day. It arrived yesterday. 95 percent new movies in my collection and some upgrades. Also got myself a 4k player. The Sony 800 x2? Something like that. Payed a 110 pounds for that or something like that. It came without the box but was my first 4k player and work great. Not used. Everything was sealed up so i have no idea why the box was not there. Anyway. Have not really spent anything on myself since October 2019 before this year so it felt so ... good. I enjoy picking up one to a half and sometimes up to to pounds blu's and dvd's mostly and have been splurging a bit in boutique labels now and then during the last 12 months. I think its coming back. I pay like 50-60 a month for streaming now and watch between 5-15 movies a month now so its cheaper buying it physical now or for me. Its really a buyers market these days. I only collect movies i love though. I try to get boutique releases second hand too when possible but they are really often holding their value very well most of the times. Arrows new Chucky set is horrible. The physical presentation. So im guessing that will become cheaper anyway Christmas came early yesterday with movies and a upgrade to 4k but it will pay for itself over time. Enjoyed your video! I have subscribed. Thanks for the insight.
Even as a collector of BR and 4K discs there comes a time where even I won't buy a disc. £30+ for a 4K disc is way too much for me. I also don't keep anything that isn't good or that I will never watch again, regardless of what boutique label it's on (mind you it helps that I've run out of room). Good luck with the collecting.
I'm a 4K fan (UK) physical media can def get expensive. I'm after Ghostbusters 2 on 4K and on eBay I've seen a copy for about £60ish and a copy for £84, its crazy and it's not even as if Ghostbusters 2 is considered a classic unlike the original. I understand it's probably due to 4K being a recent format but I refuse to pay that much. I will just be patient for a while.
Yeh definitely wait it out and see what you can get 🤞 4ks are crazy prices here too - I would love to check them out and see what the fuss is about but for now dvds are good for me ☺️
I found a copy of Ghostbusters 2 on 4K from Amazon here in Australia during their sale in July this year for $22.51 Australian which is 11.66 pounds You just need to keep an eye out
If I can't wait a couple of months to see a movie, perhaps the movie isn't worth seeing.... My point is, I've been buying blurays mostly from charity shops and CEX, and if you're patient, you can really get some great titles. Steel books - quite a bit overpriced for what they are, thery are nice, though. Great content, thank you!
Here in Australia prime delivery is included in the annual subscription I paid the yearly subscription as it works out cheaper per month it''s $79.00 Australian a year for me so it only costs me $6.59 a month
Everything is getting too expensive lol but imo physical media will never go out of style. I must say though, these days I only buy movies that i truly absolutely love and will rewatch multiple times so that being said new additions to my collection are few and far between. Yes, that’s also me saying that movies suck now lol. Could probably count on one hand the movies I’ve really liked the past 2 or 3 years.
amazon prime video does include next day delivery. i wish new release 4k blu rays was 15 quid lol tbh as as i watched a blu ray and a 4k dvd was dead to me only kept the films that haven't had a HD transfer as yet
All you need is a Panasonic ub420 this will upscale your dvd collection to 4k resolution! You don't have to buy 4k just dvd because your Ultra HD player can upscale dvd heck dvd is still 61% market shares outsold bluray and 4k. Today's modern Ultra HD player can upscale dvd your dvd looks amazing beautiful.

Netflix looks like good value, until you realise that their top movie count includes single episodes of series.

I agree with most of what you said.... besides from the willingness to collect dvds.
Blu rays or 4ks only for myself aha
Haha lots of people would agree with you!

We have HMV in Canada too though I think there are fewer locations now than there used to be. The one in my town closed a few years ago
That’s really interesting I think we share more things in common with Canada than America so I’m not surprised
