I just started watching this group today. Shabani does seem bored but always thinking, interacting, affectionate. I've been watching Momotaro for a couple months. He seems to want to be more affectionate but is stern. The Kyoto enclosure is very diverse, they must climb to get the fresh grass, must forage to find the vegetables on the ground, and there is always something new but there is no grass. Wouldn't it be cool if the best of both could be combined! 😊
the difference between shabani troop and the Momotaro troop is night and day. fascinating for sure. Momotaro is very vigilant and shabani is a big kid.
I think if momo had more females he would feel complete....but I was wondering are Shabani and Momotaro related? Do you know? I think they look so much alike in their facial expression...I was just wondering
I love the idea of a mischievous silver back! He has to protect his family and has a little fun doing it. And the others learn to play too. Lol. Never noticed before that both kids do quite a bit of bipedal walking. I love this family!
Shabani could do damage but he plays and teases the females, esp Nene. Nene then gets angry, and the kids follow. Shabani runs away, another sign that he's teasing and doesn't really want to do damage. But when Shabani comes back at them, the kids are no longer brave, they run off. It's hilarious and so much fun to watch. I LOVE SHABANI so much. He's an entertainer. I can tell when he smiles. I can tell when he wants to entertain. He does it with his troop but also w/the humans watching. He's such a JOY! I saw him once hurt one unintentionally and he was so sorry. He kept trying to hold her hand. I think it was Nene, and Nene was ignoring him, and he would put his head down in sorrow. He's a doll! I would go to this zoo and visit Japan JUST to see Shabani!
I agree with you.. He defiantly is a calm giant. He could most likely kill with one swing 4 sure. The power behind his punch is unlike any other in the animal kingdom . He is almost always playing and I don't think I've ever seen him seriously go after any of them because if he was serious who ever it was against I'm sure would be gone today because when a gorilla is serious they do fatal damage the only match woulda be another silver back his age and size otherwise the woman and children stand no chance frankly. But it's always cute to see them get all hot and bothered with his antics. He's one special gorilla and as much as I dislike zoos is love to see this but guy. He's truly special.. This happens in the wild all the time, it's not boredom. The dominant Male will make sure everyone knows that he will whoop their ass if they decide to get stupid, even if he runs from them at first.
I hadn't seen Shabani initiate a chase game in a very long time (remember how in the old enclosure they played chase all the time?), so I was happy to see him try here. Unfortunately, the ladies weren't particularly into it.
When he runs up and taps someone and immediately runs away, that's "Tag! You're it!", an invitation to play chase. Ai, especially seems to like it, and screams like a banshee. It would be easy to think she's angry. It's easy to tell when he is angry. He'll grab the offender, roll them into a ball, and mop the floor with them, then back off and glare at them to made sure his message was received.
I know gorillas aren’t that exciting but they look so bored and I hate that for them. They simply belong in their place. But that will never happen in my lifetime.

What an incredibly boring and inappropriate enclosure for these gorillas. There seems to be nothing there that resembles a natural habitat. Shame on this zoo.
@straight jacket This is not a sanctuary for Gorillas that have been saved. These Gorillas were all born in captivity and the company purchased them intentionally for display and breeding. The facilities should have been made to simulate a natural habitat before they decided to take on the gorillas. What is it that I should be doing besides calling attention to it?

I noticed the same thing. That moment right before he jumped on Ai. He started posturing. I would not want to be in the vicinity of a silverback when they start looking like that.
BEAUTIFUL silver back who ever filmed this deserve a 🌟 well done, I wished they planted more trees and foliages since in Congo they are so secluded into the deep forest, I am not saying they are miserable there, or contrary they did a good job providing their habitat..the silver back looks very well fed, very nice, also they seem to be a bit thirsty a nice little pond or more water provided since they enjoyed the rain, like I said I'm not complaining 😀🦍
I agree .If they could survive in the wild they would be much happier idk if they could though . But they are still wild animals so I don't see why they couldn't .

Man Shabani sure was in a pesty mood today. Everyone was having to keep their distance until they couldn't anymore and went on the chase to the pure delight of the chimps across the street. There are electrical poles sticking around both in the foliage and walkway. I also notice a border type of wiring along the walkway. I liked the old enclosure more. This one seems dangerous. 😯🦍❤

I dont know much about this zoo, or wherever these gorilla are. But this enclosure doesn't look very nice. For one it seems small for gorilla. And lastly, the ropes and swings (exercise area) is metal, steel. Why would they choose steel over using wooden structures?

I dont know much about this zoo, or wherever these gorilla are. But this enclosure doesn't look very nice. For one it seems small for gorilla. And lastly, the ropes and swings (exercise area) is metal, steel. Why would they choose steel over using wooden structures?
