As time has gone on and we're able to look back and reflect, I have to say Aeroplane is one of the better chilli pepper songs, and one of Fleas greatest bass lines. It'd be nice if John just sucked it up abit and actually played it live with them. I feel the song deserves it.
I agree with you on the John thing. Everybody kisses that dudes ass, and don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of his solo albums. But his justification for not playing any songs off that album is a bit ridiculous to me. Although, Ozzy wouldn't sing any Dio songs... so what can you do?
I know its hard for many to accept, but One hot minute contains the best songwriting the band ever had, and has the most proficient guitarist the band ever had. Further, if continued on the path as the band was taking after BSSM, the band was kinda just repeating themselves, still stuck in a mostly RAP/ Rock style that honestly quickly died off. OHM allowed the band to expand beyond this sound and create something that is uniquely their own. The transitions in the music became so more in-depth and if you really study all their catalog, you'll quickly note that this point was the turning point in the band's style. A spot, they would not have been able to get to, without the outside influence of Dave Navarro. In bands, inner competition and turmoil will always push creative buttons more than harmony sadly. Egos blasting around in a room doesn't make for good friendships but artistically it performs miracles. I've seen them with every line up (almost) I've watched them grow. I even toured with them for a short while. One Hot Minute is a good album which unfortunately seems to have been forgotten in the Chilli's rise to superstardom post 99. The Navarro line up worked but probably not like they hoped which was a shame, it was kind of like a dream line up thing that looked perfect on paper but didnt quite work out in reality.
