As time has gone on and we're able to look back and reflect, I have to say Aeroplane is one of the better chilli pepper songs, and one of Fleas greatest bass lines. It'd be nice if John just sucked it up abit and actually played it live with them. I feel the song deserves it.

I know its hard for many to accept, but One hot minute contains the best songwriting the band ever had, and has the most proficient guitarist the band ever had. Further, if continued on the path as the band was taking after BSSM, the band was kinda just repeating themselves, still stuck in a mostly RAP/ Rock style that honestly quickly died off. OHM allowed the band to expand beyond this sound and create something that is uniquely their own. The transitions in the music became so more in-depth and if you really study all their catalog, you'll quickly note that this point was the turning point in the band's style. A spot, they would not have been able to get to, without the outside influence of Dave Navarro. In bands, inner competition and turmoil will always push creative buttons more than harmony sadly. Egos blasting around in a room doesn't make for good friendships but artistically it performs miracles.
Shallow be thy Game, Transcending, Coffee Shop, One Hot minute, One Big Mob IMO are some of the greatest songs that a Rock band ever produced since the turn of the end of the 80's
I've been following this band since I saw them in the early 80's at the Underground railroad where less than 300 people were in attendance. I've seen them with every line up (almost) I've watched them grow. I even toured with them for a short while.
One of the biggest tragedies is the way the fans rejected them for not following up BSSM with a parody of BSSM. The band moved on and grew, while the fans stayed stuck in 1992.
NOT me! OHM F()cking rocks. Meant to be played loud with a giant sound system and not some crappy tiny speaker from your phone.
Or better yet with headphones... everything today is mixed basically mono... OHM does stuff with the stereo separation that will blow your mind.

I saw this live on TV the night they did it. I was in college in the early 1990’s & used to watch Letterman every night back then.
At that time, it was a running joke on the Letterman show that his studio was freezing because the management kept the air conditioning running too high.
Guests would complain that they were cold & Letterman himself would make jokes about it in his nightly monologue. He’d say the studio air conditioning had only 2 settings, Blizzard and Off. Jokes of that nature.
Anyway that’s why the RHCPs wore the winter coats for this appearance..

One Hot Minute is a good album which unfortunately seems to have been forgotten in the Chilli's rise to superstardom post 99. I think their most interesting phase was from about 87 up to OHM after that they became more commercial and less interesting imo. The Navarro line up worked but probably not like they hoped which was a shame, it was kind of like a dream line up thing that looked perfect on paper but didnt quite work out in reality.

Great album. On my top 3 Chili Peppers records. A shame they won't play these songs live because of John's massive ego. Is what it is.

I totally dug the DN lineup. I think if it had been a side project instead of a RHCP project it would be more appreciated.

I'd love to see you playing this song, and he plays the electric bass, there's a big difference between an electric bass and a string bass. Lastly if he is "embarrassing" bass players everywhere by being one of the few bass players in recent bands to keep playing the bass popular, then yes he is definitely embarrassing us by keeping the electric bass popular. Totally.
