Yes please. Review each game in the remasters! And the reason Tanimura's face look a lot different is because his original actor had retired from acting and they couldn't get him back
@@blackRXrider Japan is very weird with drugs. Even if you're innocent, just being accused of drugs can get you into a lot of trouble which is why he retired.
I’d never seen any of your videos before, but I loved this review! I’m a relatively new Yakuza fan, myself, having beaten Kiwami 1, Kiwami 2, Yakuza 0, and now Judgment. I ordered this collection off amazon the instant I saw them announced, and had been impatiently counting down the days. I’m about 5 hours into Yakuza 3 now, and while I can tell it definitely used to be a PS3 game, I still love it so far, and the small town feel of Okinawa is incredibly charming. I will absolutely take my time with this game and just soak it in, like I did the other four games I played, but I’m also still very excited to see 4 and 5 when I get there, especially 5 because the way you described it sounded incredible. I’d love to see what you have to say about each of these games in more depth!
Thank you so much! I'm really glad you're enjoying Yakuza 3, that really seems to be the most skippable entry for most fans. Hopefully you enjoy 5 when you get there, too.
God, nostalgia goggles hitting me hard. I had no recollection of how bad the PS3 versions looked in comparison to the remasters. That direct comparison was wild!
Yakuza 2 was my entry to the series sometime in 2007. I ended up getting 3 and 4 sometime in 2014. That resulted with me getting dead souls and later Yakuza 5 on psn.
I first started with 3 for the PS4 a couple months ago. I loved it so much that I got both 4 and 5 last weekend off of the strength of 3 alone. I'm very excited to continue!
i know this comment is a year old but i would highly recommend playing yakuza 0 and kiwami/kiwami 2 if u haven’t already. 0 is one of the best games in the series and playing 0 makes events that happen in later games hold much more significance than they would if u had just skipped 0 altogether
After played and got hooked on Yakuza 0, this series has won my heart. Theres no bad game in sight. Even ones with slow burns it's all worth it. One minute your beating up hooligans on road and next your in karaoke pop fantasy. Then major character in game dies and next second your grooving on dance floor. Countless mini games with fun, strange and outrageous sub stories. What's not to love? Buy all the Yakuza games now and take your time, you ain't going to regret it.
Been playing since PS2 days. I used to tell everyone how badass this game was and during the PS3 era would always recommend it to people, finally it's getting the love ot deserves.
I’m super excited for this. Just got my copy. Got into the series last March when I, for whatever reason, decided to buy Yakuza 6. I will be playing 3, 4, and 5 for the first time.
MykonosFan I got it because it was the most recent. Got Zero before I beat 6. Got Kiwani 1 and 2 while playing Zero. You’re right, though, it was an odd place to start, but it hooked me from the first minute. I also have Judgment and Fist of the North Star.
Been a yakuza fan since I borrowed the first game on ps2 and never looked back, I'm gonna buy the whole collection and start from 0 and get the platinum for all of them WATCH!!!!
Late comment but I really enjoyed Yakuza 3. While the combat was pretty frustrating (especially since I played it on hard), I still didn't fail in a fight once and overall, I had a good time playing it. Also, not gonna spoil anything for other people who may be reading this comment, but this game almost had my crying at a certain scene right before the final chapter started.
I'm literally playing the entire mainline games right now. I just finished Yakuza 0 1 2 3 and i'm currently playing 4 xD I stream it from time to time and needless to say.. It's damn worth it
I was lolin' during the whole GoldenBolt thing at the end. I'm halfway through Yakuza 3 at the moment. Can't wait to reach that point and call the baby Munancho.
Plat 3 about to plat 4 than start 5 and I absolutely love them, also like to say thank fuck you talked about the blocking in 3, it is like the sole reason I played 4 over 3 any day simply because the bosses loved to block when I try to do a no items run
only picked up the yakuza series for the first time maybe a year and a half ago (zero), and i genuinely regret missing out beforehand, granted im only half way through the first kiwami game at this time so ive got a loooong way to go but im really loving the journey so far. the amount of time i put into the cabaret minigame in zero alone is absolutely insane. no regrets.
I remember renting yakuza 1 from a video game store and I was in middle school! God the journey it’s been so far. I was so psyched when the series finally got recognized. I just knew the impact this series would make if only others knew. RGG is one of the only few companies that I know I get my moneys worth for pre orders year after year. I’m 30 now and I’m still hooked. I hope it never ends ❤
As someone who came from the newest yakuzas playing these older combat systems, I can say they are surprisingly good (besides bosses that do nothing but block your attacks lol)
I'm glad you mention the constant blocking in Yakuza 3. It really dragged out fights that didn't need to be that long but other than that one issue the game was still pretty good.
Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous. There's probably an easy way to get around it once you know (I found the Square + Triangle + Triangle combo was relatively effective), but when you're used to playing the way pretty much every other game lets you it's a hard habit to break, haha
@@MykonosFan My hard playthrough was rough but thankfully the golden gun made the legend playthrough a breeze. Thank god the enemies blocking cant stop bullets lol.

@@MykonosFan Thanks for your reply! I've been really enjoying Y3 so far. I dig the slower pace of the Orphanage storyline, it's fun and a nice easy to understand flow in contrast to the sometimes complicated story :) The game feels kinda nostalgic because I had an Xbox 360 before I bought the ps4, I missed out on many good ps3 games back then. Sure it's a bit more 'rough' but it has such a nice charm to it.. Some minigames like golf are a tad difficult at first but so rewarding when you get the jist of 'em. I'm gonna level with you, I didn't get to 3-5 in the series, I only started playing starting with 0 I think last year (the completion lists are kryptonite, but I try doing as much as possible) and the series so far, is incredible. In my case, the remaster is a no brainer. If someone's already played 3-5, that's up to them if they want to play them again, at least I'd think so. It's worth going the distance, I'll say
My first entry for yakuza was 0. A friend bought it for me on steam and wanted to watch me play it. I figured since it was free I should at least give it a chance. As soon as the story started I was interested in what was happening. In chapter 3 I got hooked, and 100 hours later I beat the game. Playing kiwami now (was given as a birthday gift) and it’s honestly my favourite game series now
I only get to Part 2 with Taiga Saejima character when my game data start to become corrupt CE-30005-8 error cannot continue application and must close at every "Now loading" screen and I have to delete game and reinstall but the problem still occur :(
Excellent review! I've played them on ps3 and have been dying to play the remastered versions but I'll try to hold out until they get released on pc. I can't just keep buying every entry twice. ^^ It'd be amazing if they release Yakuza 3, 4, 5, and 6 before 7 comes to pc later this year.
I myself was intoduced at the first Yakuza with its english dub and Mark Hamill as Majima and I still love all of the Yakuza games to this day so glad that other people can experience it all on the ps4 now
I'm grabbing this tomorrow,God's will. I've waited years for a physical release for Yakuza 5 for years now. I've cleared Yakuza 3 on PS3,wasn't really into Yakuza 4 much. However,I may give it a go,I'm ecstatic.
I was slightly in doubt about buying them, mostly just waiting for it to lower the price but this review got me too excited lol, buying them like right now.
Ive only played Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2. I enjoyed those games alot and currently playing Kiwami 2. But i find if you play them too much they do become repetitive, so not sure if i would be able to play 3, 4 and 5. Are the graphics still good in these compared to the ones i played, or are they only upgraded a little bit ?
I bought a used copy of Yakuza 1 and 2 and then collected the PS3 releases while also buying the new stuff that came out since Yakuza 0. I stopped playing them because for a while I honestly didn’t have the time. Now I‘m replaying them thanks to HyperBitHero‘s new video and I am really conflicted about playing the PS3 or PS4 versions. Preserving the original (localized) experience or playing the definitive version of each game where possible? 😅 Well, I still have time to decide.
Enemies constant blocking, mini game state (especially bowling) made me put down Yakuza 3 after beating the main story. Granted the original plan was a break after Kiwami 2, so I could be ready for Rise of the Ronin. So maybe I do 9 Hostage story before starting Yakuza 4 after Stellar Blade is done. Note: I hear the blocking issue is due to Yakuza 3 using Kezan engine, where you suppose to switch weapon to pierce enemies when block.
Playing Yakuza 5 right now, it's great. I had played 4 and 5 previously on PS3 but not Yakuza 3 and I had no idea what it was about so it was pretty new to me. I almost wish for a Dead Souls remaster, but only if it has revamped controls since it plays like ass
I liked it a lot, how they did the remastering what I did not like, is that the subtitles did not make them see them updated because they look like a copy and paste of the old versions and also the introduction videos are forced to see them rescaled.
The beginning of 3 really put me off because of the lazy send off for Kaoru. I get that they had different writers for the first 2 but I think instead of lazily writing of Kaoru at 3, the writer could've gone 2 ways: 1. Since Kaoru was willing to throw her life at the end of 2 for family and Kiryu, (because being career oriented contradicts that plot point) she and her foster mom could've moved with Kiryu and Haruka in Okinawa. She could still be a police officer roaming around downtown only to return home after work then her foster mom can watch over the orphanage. This can keep her as a background character or someone who wouldn't have interfered with the main story while making her a reoccurring character 2. They could still go with her going overseas but during the events of 5 when Kiryu was in the hospital she finally returns to Japan when she learn about it. During 6 when Kiryu is looking for Haruka, she could a) help gather info off screen or b) return to Sotenburi to check on her mom, preserving her presence in the series. 3. For the cabaret club scenes I think they could've just cut it from Kiryu since he's a family man now and instead move it to the other characters like Akiyama. I just think the events at the ending of 2 and even her overall character was wasted by lazily writing her off. At this point I would've even preferred having been killed off or a substory that confirm that she did eventually ended up with that american cop but gives one last goodbye to Kiryu like Makoto having a proper goodbye to Majima in kiwami 2.
Yakuza 4 was my first Yakuza game on the PS3. I have now tried Yakuza 0 and loved it so I decided to get Yakuza 2 and now I have to wait till I get paid to buy the remastered collection because the damn game series has hooked me. I’m also really looking forward to Yakuza 7!!!
Yeah but at the time I wasn’t planning on playing them all, and I wasn’t going to play a game I didn’t want to before I knew how much I loved the series. Also, being relatively knew to the games, I didn’t know there was a difference between yakuza 2 and yakuza kiwami 2.
I loved the story for Yakuza 3, but the chunkiness and the input lag I was getting made it a messy experience. For some reason my game had input lag and reading online people mentioned if I put the TV in game mode it should fix it. My cheap Chinese TV didn't have game mode so I was stuck playing this game with delay inputs. It was so bad I was getting 500 on the Karaoke mini game and to this day every other Yakuza game I usually get high 900s on the first try, it's only Y3 where it's really bad. :(
I've been playing the first Yakuza on the XB1X, I thought it was a run of the mill runaround beat em up, due to my friend bringing his PS4 down and all I could see is him just beat people up. That was some years ago. but I saw it in Gamepass and downloaded it just for the sake of it to see why he was so crazy about this game. And I was definitely surprised on how good this game really is. 😁 Well done for Sega moving this game to a different platform so everyone can actually get to play and love these games. Only thing that annoys me to hell are those karaoke part those damn button presses are just to damn quick 😠
6:16 Wow I completely forgot they changed Tanimura's entire model/voice. The original voice actor apparently was going through cocaine addiction sometime after the release of Yakuza 4 but before they remastered it for PS4 and apparently drug use is very taboo in Japan so the developers pretty much axed him and replaced him with someone else. This angered a lot of people (including myself) as many people thought that was a bit of an overreaction considering his addiction was involved in his personal life and didn't affect his work but the criticism fell on deaf ears. I'm going to be completely honest, I was really hyped on getting this remaster so I can relive the whole series but in HD on my new laptop but, albeit small, remembering what they did to the voice actor really left a sour taste in my mouth. I didn't support it back then and I don't know if I want to support it now. Shame since I LOVE the series, it's actually one of my favourite series of all time.
Japan really doesn't fuck around when it comes to drugs, definitely feels extreme by our standards, but they are zero tolerance. Happened again in Judgement, so it's safe to say, if you want to keep your place in the Yakuza-verse, drugs are bad, M'Kay.
@@RagnarokMic Yeah I know I get it, it's just messed up that they'll go so far as to not just fire the person but also erase their entire contribution.
Originally in the third game Kiryu runs away from a transexual woman as he finds her "weird" it's an actual mini game where you have to run away from her. I think that's the only thing that was removed from both the Japanese and english versions
They removed a few substories involving a crossdresser and added in a ton of borderlands-esque humor and old cringey memes when they retranslated it. They removed a rape joke in 4 as well despite the audio clearly saying rape haha. Not sure of anything removed or altered in 5 yet, but the out of tone borderlands humor got injected in all three sadly.
ShadowFenix217 lol the cringey new subtitles while Akiyama clearly says "REIPU??? HAHAHA" are pretty funny. And what do you mean by Borderlands humour? I haven't gotten far enough through 3 yet to notice any massive changes.
This was really helpful! I was scared they were just too old to play comfortable, or that maybe they weren't as good as the new ones... But I can see I was wrong now :D

I highly recommend the Yakuza collection!! Picked up my pre order Tuesday.
Yes please. Review each game in the remasters!
And the reason Tanimura's face look a lot different is because his original actor had retired from acting and they couldn't get him back
The actor was busted for drugs.
@@blackRXrider He was proven innocent later on, he retired anyway because of the investigation.
@@blackRXrider Japan is very weird with drugs. Even if you're innocent, just being accused of drugs can get you into a lot of trouble which is why he retired.
ZekaiYS He could have come back. He chose not to because the media and his own friend threw him under the bus.
@@JayAreAitch now that's a Yakuza plot!
The new framerate does change some things. e.g. dodges are worse, but the heat charge move goes faster.
Yakuza 2 was my entry to the series sometime in 2007. I ended up getting 3 and 4 sometime in 2014. That resulted with me getting dead souls and later Yakuza 5 on psn.
Yakuza 3 is a fucking nightmare on Hard mode.
0 is one of the best games in the series and playing 0 makes events that happen in later games hold much more significance than they would if u had just skipped 0 altogether
why tf would you start with 3? are you delusional?
After played and got hooked on Yakuza 0, this series has won my heart. Theres no bad game in sight. Even ones with slow burns it's all worth it.
One minute your beating up hooligans on road and next your in karaoke pop fantasy.
Then major character in game dies and next second your grooving on dance floor.
Countless mini games with fun, strange and outrageous sub stories.
What's not to love?
Buy all the Yakuza games now and take your time, you ain't going to regret it.
Clearly never played yakuza dead souls
@@themadhouse1133 its not cannon and I haven't played it. I'm talking about makn series
I'm playing Yakuza 0 on my XB1X currently. It's dope. Can't wait to play the other ones in the series.
Been playing since PS2 days. I used to tell everyone how badass this game was and during the PS3 era would always recommend it to people, finally it's getting the love ot deserves.
i got into the series at yakuza 4. it was amazing.
Waiting PC version, played Yakuza 0, it was amazing. Excited to play all other parts
You're in luck, Remastered comes out in January 28 2021 and 6 comes out on March 25 2021
I’m super excited for this. Just got my copy. Got into the series last March when I, for whatever reason, decided to buy Yakuza 6. I will be playing 3, 4, and 5 for the first time.
Haha, well hey, 6 is an odd place to start but what matters is getting your foot into the series somewhere right?
MykonosFan I got it because it was the most recent. Got Zero before I beat 6. Got Kiwani 1 and 2 while playing Zero.
You’re right, though, it was an odd place to start, but it hooked me from the first minute. I also have Judgment and Fist of the North Star.
Been a yakuza fan since I borrowed the first game on ps2 and never looked back, I'm gonna buy the whole collection and start from 0 and get the platinum for all of them WATCH!!!!
Am I the only one who enjoyed Yakuza 3? hahahha I mean, I liked Okinawa and I cried with some scenes in the orphanage xd
I just finished Yakuza 0 1 2 3 and i'm currently playing 4 xD
I stream it from time to time and needless to say..
It's damn worth it
Same im on 1 rn
What is your ranking for them? Forget graphics.
@@Andrew_S1 Definitely a solid 10/10 if you forget about the Graphics
I was lolin' during the whole GoldenBolt thing at the end. I'm halfway through Yakuza 3 at the moment. Can't wait to reach that point and call the baby Munancho.
I’m currently playing Kiwami 2 on my channel, truly incredible series, it’s made with much more soul than most western games.

I do enjoy the bond he build with the kids in 3 its a shame they dont expend on it
For sure, as 4 and 5 went on I was actually surprised how little the kids were a part of it.
@@MykonosFan yeah ik wish they were in the story more cuz as the story went on that was a big part of his character
Plat 3 about to plat 4 than start 5 and I absolutely love them, also like to say thank fuck you talked about the blocking in 3, it is like the sole reason I played 4 over 3 any day simply because the bosses loved to block when I try to do a no items run
I have not. I finished Y2K and was waiting for the physical releases.
You mentioning that 5 is saccharine is making me more excited to play it i love that shit!
Haha, I can totally see getting excited for it. There’s some dumb plot points but they’re dumb in a fun way.
only picked up the yakuza series for the first time maybe a year and a half ago (zero), and i genuinely regret missing out beforehand, granted im only half way through the first kiwami game at this time so ive got a loooong way to go but im really loving the journey so far.
the amount of time i put into the cabaret minigame in zero alone is absolutely insane. no regrets.
The cabaret mini game is soooooo good. It comes back in Kiwami 2 so hope you’re hungry for more!
@@MykonosFan i can totally see me sinking more time into it :D
I remember renting yakuza 1 from a video game store and I was in middle school! God the journey it’s been so far. I was so psyched when the series finally got recognized. I just knew the impact this series would make if only others knew. RGG is one of the only few companies that I know I get my moneys worth for pre orders year after year. I’m 30 now and I’m still hooked. I hope it never ends ❤
As someone who came from the newest yakuzas playing these older combat systems, I can say they are surprisingly good (besides bosses that do nothing but block your attacks lol)
The blocks get annoying
I agree. I just finished Y3 and now on the second part of Y4, I feel like Y4 isn't dated at all. It feels like Yakuza Zero.
I never played any but I just remembered the 1st Kiwanis game was ps plus free one month and I fallen in love and getting all the other games
I pre ordered this collection. And I played the game before it even came out officialy. I have to support companies like this.

Good old rubber bullets, Kiryu never kills
I agree with the 3 4 and 5 I was blessed to get three but I never had the privilege of playing five so this collection is just what true and new Yakuza fans have been looking for I can sit down and enjoy a meatball sub with my favorite drink and play this masterpiece
These game deserve way more attention than they get. I recommend everyone play at least yakuza zero, kiwami and kiwami two.
i will. I love 0 right now on game pass and kiwami 1 & 2 are coming too and im sure as hell gonna play those too. Yakuza 0 is so amazing... a masterpiece.
Would love to see reviews of each game. These three entires in the series don't get enough love.
Cheers man, looking forward to receiving the game tomorrow. Played 0, Kiwami 1 and 2 and now onto 3,4,5. You made me extra excited to start 3! Keep up the videos :)
Thanks! 3's a bit rough after 0, K1, and K2, but stick with 3, 4, and 5 and it'll all pay off.
I love exploring Okinawa and it's thanks to your video I chose to buy the remastered collection. Cheers!
I saw that this game is on sale and found your review to help me make my decision. Turns out I love how you explained each and every single game in a very concise and detailed manner without overloading me with information. Here's my sub and im looking forward to more content!

I'm just waiting for the remastered collection to hit on PC.

@Silver Shore isn't the point of the remaster, localizing the previously removed content?

Wow , I played 0 , Kiwami , and now playing kiwami 2 and I looove this series and really enjoying it and I already bought Judgment and played the first hour but decided to save after I finish Kiwami 2 , 3 , 4 ,5, 6, thinking that I have 5 games to play from this series is making me sooo fucking excited
Playing kiwami now (was given as a birthday gift) and it’s honestly my favourite game series now
Yes it’s worth buying. Stories are unbelievable and the graphics up is a awesome.
Unbelievably bad looooool

I only get to Part 2 with Taiga Saejima character when my game data start to become corrupt CE-30005-8 error cannot continue application and must close at every "Now loading" screen and I have to delete game and reinstall but the problem still occur :(
Excellent review! I've played them on ps3 and have been dying to play the remastered versions but I'll try to hold out until they get released on pc. I can't just keep buying every entry twice. ^^ It'd be amazing if they release Yakuza 3, 4, 5, and 6 before 7 comes to pc later this year.

I myself was intoduced at the first Yakuza with its english dub and Mark Hamill as Majima and I still love all of the Yakuza games to this day so glad that other people can experience it all on the ps4 now
Mark Hamill as Majima worked way better than it should’ve.
waited for the steam release and its here
I hope at one point they do yakuza kiwami 3,4 and,5
Now if we could only get Ryu ga Gotoku: Ishin! Released with english subs!!!
Throw in Kenzan while you're at it!
I'm grabbing this tomorrow,God's will. I've waited years for a physical release for Yakuza 5 for years now. I've cleared Yakuza 3 on PS3,wasn't really into Yakuza 4 much. However,I may give it a go,I'm ecstatic.
It’s worth another shot! 4 is a surprisingly quick game to breeze through if you don’t get lost in the side stuff much.
I was slightly in doubt about buying them, mostly just waiting for it to lower the price but this review got me too excited lol, buying them like right now.
Haha, sorry!
Played them on PS3 but I definitely still loved going again with the graphics cleaned up and re enjoy the story's
I'm actually pretty impressed by how big and diverse the crowds are in Yakuza 3, even if there's a lot of pop-in, lol.
In Okinawa were you able to visit Tomi village?
Enemies constant blocking, mini game state (especially bowling) made me put down Yakuza 3 after beating the main story.
Granted the original plan was a break after Kiwami 2, so I could be ready for Rise of the Ronin.
So maybe I do 9 Hostage story before starting Yakuza 4 after Stellar Blade is done.
Note: I hear the blocking issue is due to Yakuza 3 using Kezan engine, where you suppose to switch weapon to pierce enemies when block.
This is exactly what I’ve been looking for, great video.
Thank you!
At this point, we all need to petition for #DeadSoulsKiwami
Or maybe something good like finally getting those two PSP games
I'm also on yakuza 5 amazing
I liked it a lot, how they did the remastering what I did not like, is that the subtitles did not make them see them updated because they look like a copy and paste of the old versions and also the introduction videos are forced to see them rescaled.
The subtitles are redone. Of course they carry the same meaning; they're translating the same script. What's your point? What did you want?
The beginning of 3 really put me off because of the lazy send off for Kaoru. I get that they had different writers for the first 2 but I think instead of lazily writing of Kaoru at 3, the writer could've gone 2 ways:
1. This can keep her as a background character or someone who wouldn't have interfered with the main story while making her a reoccurring character
I NEEDED THIS REVIEW! I started Yakuza Kiwami 1 and buying Kiwami 2 soon. I am so exicted and loving it!

my entry point was yakuza 4 as well! and remained my favorite (5 not far behind). was this just luck or did u start on PSNow as well?

Yakuza 4 was my first Yakuza game on the PS3. I have now tried Yakuza 0 and loved it so I decided to get Yakuza 2 and now I have to wait till I get paid to buy the remastered collection because the damn game series has hooked me. I’m also really looking forward to Yakuza 7!!!
what about yakuza 1?
I was torn between that and 2 and, to be honest, I really wanted to play Majima’s Construction.
Kai Mitchell Yeah but surely you understand why you should do 1 before 2. Also don't say you played 2 when you played K2.
Well done for Sega moving this game to a different platform so everyone can actually get to play and love these games. Only thing that annoys me to hell are those karaoke part those damn button presses are just to damn quick 😠
Those were in sleeping dogs too the karaoke it’s hard as f***
I just started Kiwami 2 on PC.... Praying these get released on PC too!
Well well your wish has come true and yakuza 6 on pc
I'd like to know what was removed from the Japanese versions?
Silver Shore It's a couple substories. Sure, it's lame, but is it really that tragic for you?
This was really helpful! I was scared they were just too old to play comfortable, or that maybe they weren't as good as the new ones... But I can see I was wrong now :D
Happy to help! They’re definitely awkward by comparison, but you can see the iteration in each game and at its core; Yakuza is Yakuza.
