Vistied the lounge while waiting for our train for San diego. The station is beautiful and the lounge was comfortable andstaff was gracious. Redcap met us at the back door to take us to the train to board. As my 90 year old dad has trouble walking.(he does not want a wheel chair he can walk short distances.) Love amtrak and all they offer.

Actually it's welcome. I will be riding out of Union Station soon -- have visited there -- and while the architecture is great to look at, if you're waiting there for 2-3 hours you just want to hole up without worrying about people begging from you or otherwise molesting your tranquility. The lounge is a welcome respite while waiting for the train.

Union Station in LA is a glorious work of art deco work. Even if you're not taking the train go see this place. It's so beautiful! Very nice video, Mike.

Wow, this Amtrak lounge has all the charm of a Motel 6 lobby! It troubles me how anyone would want to hang out in there. LA's magnificent Union Station is one of the city's architectural marvels, and one of America's best examples of Deco Moderne style. I would advise travelers to take in the splendor of the main Union Station Lobby, rather than waste time in Amtrak's drywall and vinyl homogenized Metro lounge. It floors me. What were those Amtrak geniuses thinking when they designed it?

+shelgphillips I agree with you that sitting in the magnificent 1939 lobby is a far better experience than sitting in the club lounge. The one thing I have found the club lounge useful for is that it is a quiet place where you can recharge your stuff and get some work done if you arrive at the station early. Other than that, sitting in the main lobby is the way to go.

the metropolitan lounge is actually pretty nice to relax in. It's great to have the free drinks and snacks, that way you won't have to buy snacks and drinks. I've been there myself. The union station lobby is pretty cool too. The issue with the union station lobby is the number of homeless people occupying the seats. But ever since LA Metro acquired the ownership of union station, they've done a fairly nice job handling the issue. You now must have a ticket for amtrak or metrolink in order to sit inside union station. In addition, they've modernized union station a little bit while keeping the old architectural design.
Yes I would recommend the lounge, but give yourself plenty of time to walk around inside union station as well.

Thanks for the video to let me see the Business Class. The lounge might be useful if someone travelled a lot and just wanted to get some work done. Getting refundable ticket is probably biggest factor.

I never knew that lounge existed (I live in the L.A. area). It looks like nobody else does either.

Despite the peace and seclusion it offers, I am greatly disappointed. It does indeed look like a motel 6 at best.

Well it isn't up to the level of an airport lounge, but you can plug in, get some work done, and have a snack. No full buffet though LOL.

The non-alcoholic drinks are free but I think the alcohol might not be (sorry I can't remember).
